[Bug 1728012] Re: Many 3rd party scanner drivers are broken by a sane change
@luca.mg Your suggestion in comment #157 worked! I had to install libsane-extras (and libsane-common) using Synaptic Package Manager. Not sure why those weren't already part of the install. I also added the line "brother4" to the file /etc/sane.d/dll.d/libsane-extras. Now my home wifi networked Brother MFC-J470DW scanner (brscan4) shows up and works with XSANE and Simple Scan! [Bug 1204530] Re: yppasswd results in a segmentation fault when run on clients or server
As I looked back at everything I did before I see that I had tested the updates in Virtualbox using the 32 bit Xubuntu releases. For the 32 bit releases the segmentation violation began when I updated the client from 12.10 to 13.04. I reran the same experiment in virtualbox last night and still got the same behavior with the 32 bit releases: current release of 12.04 LTS on the server works, 12.10 works, 13.04 fails. I have an older CD burned that I labeled Xubuntu 64 bit 12.04.1 LTS available. I'll try the same experiment starting with that one when I get some time to get a 64 bit virtualbox running on my current platform. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1204530 Title: yppasswd results in a segmentation fault when run on clients or server To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nis/+bug/1204530/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

It was whatever was available in July. I installed two XUbuntu 12.04.? LTS systems under VirtualBbx and confirmed then that it worked before making the bug report. [Bug 248376] [NEW] VMWare server causes keyboard problems in ubuntu host
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: vmware-server Running VMWare-server, current Ubuntu Hardy with all patches up to this date, with a pre-made WinXP guest operating system VM, causes all sorts of keyboard-related problems when I swap between the guest operating system and the host. I.e. I use the host operating system and suddenly can't type capital letters, other keys accidentally shut windows, minimize windows, etc. while attempting to use any other applications. Selecting a different keyboard layout (say US Keyboard variant) , and then reverting (back to UK keyboard layout) makes the problem go away until the guest operating system is accessed again. During this all keys work as expected when the guest operating system has focus. I post it in case it is indicative of some problem in Gnome's keyboard handling or the vmware-server package, or in case someone is looking for a workaround. [Bug 248372] [NEW] Nautilus crash makes desktop icons and right-click vanish until restart
Public bug reported: Nautilus crashed on me recently and later I noticed all icons disappeared from the gnome desktop, (current ubuntu hardy with all updates to this date). In addition right-clicking on the desktop wouldn't work (and similar things like rubber-band selecting icons (which weren't displayed in any case)). After a reboot, removing any tmp files, full shutdown and reboot, and restarting and trying everything else I could think of, if I started nautilus from a gnome- terminal, and shut it down again properly and my icons, right-click abilities, etc. returned. I'm unable to duplicate this (how do I force nautilus to crash poorly to begin with? I don't remember what I was doing!) I post this bug in case it is useful to pass upstream and as a record in case anyone else encounters the same problem. The clue to restart nautilus was given by this old fedora post: http://linux.derkeiler.com/Mailing-Lists/Fedora/2004-07/5596.html and I thought it worth trying. Bug exists but is non-critical, but impacts ability for inexperienced user to use the gnome UI. I'm not entirely sure the nautilus is the source of the bug, but restarting it cured the symptoms. [Bug 178715] Re: [Sync request] Please sync gallery2 2.2.4-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)
Could I add another voice in support of this? This shouldn't just be wishlist ... 2.2.4 adds significant security fixes after a complete professional security audit including: * Added protection from brute force attacks on setup and account passwords. * Added protection from "Cross Site Request Forgery" attacks. * Added protection from "Cross Site Scripting" through item titles, summaries and description (only applies to the non-default HTML markup). * Added protection from "HTTP Response Splitting" attacks. * Fixed information disclosure through application errors. * Hardened Session Handling in upgrade, install and support area. -- [Sync request] Please sync gallery2 2.2.4-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/178715 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 75286] Re: Crash on startup -- possible cause / workaround
Ok, reading through other bugs (64614) I noticed that some people have problems with assistive technologies and thunderbird. I went to System -> Preferences -> Accessibility -> Assistive Technology Preferences and unchecked 'enable assistive technologies'. As soon as I did that (no restart of gdm or anything) thunderbird worked again fine without me needing to run it as root. To test I shut thunderbird, and went back to the same menu and re- enabled it, trying thunderbird again and it wouldn't start again. Going back and disabling assistive technologies and instantly it is able to start up without problems. Hurrah! Ok, a problem for those who need the assistive technologies, but I don't even remember when I turned them on. [Bug 75286] Re: Crash on startup
I'm having this problem as well. I've not installed any new extensions, and not upgraded anything that should affect mozilla. I'm still running Feisty (and not able to upgrade this machine for awhile). The error is: GTK Accessibility Module initialized DOUBLE-CLICK: 400 --> -1 THRESHOLD: 8 --> -1 (Gecko:9062): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: gsignal.c:1019: unable to lookup signal "activate" of unloaded type `MaiAtkObject' (Gecko:9062): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_signal_emit_valist: assertion `signal_id > 0' failed /usr/lib/mozilla-thunderbird/run-mozilla.sh: line 131: 9062 Segmentation fault (core dumped) "$prog" ${1+"$@"} All files in the profile are owned by me, using -safe-mode has no effect. Starting thunderbird as root (sudo mozilla-thunderbird) does seem to work around the problem, but I've not tested what other side effects this might have. An strace was 15 meg so I didn't upload it... do you only need the last X number of lines or the whole thing? -- Crash on startup https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/75286 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 116161] upload_max_filesize should be larger in default php.ini
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: php5 The variable "upload_max_filesize" should be set to a larger default value in /etc/php5/apache2/php.ini because this causes numerous problems in php5 application software such as the gallery2 package. The current default is 2M and most photographs these days are larger than 2 meg... thus any time a system upgrade overwrites php.ini this value is reverted and leads to a flurry of support requests with such programs. While users can avoid this by choosing not to have php.ini overwritten during an upgrade, most wouldn't bother to pay attention. To solve the problem, I'd suggest upping the default value to something just slightly larger which would encompass a larger number of modern photo sizes and thus not cause so many problems. Perhaps something like: upload_max_filesize = 10M (or perhaps 5 if you really are worried about the minor difference in security) I realize this might be an upstream default, so please pass upstream if necessary. -James ** Affects: php5 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- upload_max_filesize should be larger in default php.ini https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/116161 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Is there any chance of a later version being backported into dapper? If you can tell me that it won't be in the next 6 months or so, then I'll go compile it from source for my own use, but I'd really rather prefer there to be an official package. -James -- Backport MediaWiki https://launchpad.net/bugs/49056 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
