Re: [Bug 289946] Re: Using the Live CD - ALL VERSIONS- Defaults to getting on the internet.

2010-08-26 Thread Jammit
Oh there a person breaths...

Actually the plain grey plug to plug logo is FINE - except I dunno.

I'd like to see a more relevant symbol that represents an active internet
connection.

Much like the ahem - microsoft foreground computer screen and the
background computer screen.

That is a symbol type that everyone knows what it is and it's dynamically
relevant.

With - not so much flashing because that can be distracting - but glowing
slowly on and off - when data is coming down of going up the connection.

And I'd like to ELECT to establish an internet connection, rather than it be
on *silently and inconspiciously* by default.

I think not only for me, I'd feel better if that was an obvious choice,
rather than an automated feature.

 Bug description:
Yeah been using Ubi for a long time and occasionally - I need to use a
LIVE CD on a Windows system

 That's fine.

BUT when I run Ubi, I usually run it firewalled and the same with
 Windoze...

But what horrifies me a little bit, is that the Ubi live CD's upon booting,
the OS has the internet connections ON and running - by default.

Why? because I am usually backing up my carefully debugged and nasty free
systems at the same time - and the last thing I want to happen is to be
hacked - when the original data sets and backup drives are on the system at
 the same time.

But this DEFAULT internet on setting ought to be switched off - because
it's so damned passive and it's easy to overlook, even for me, and it's
potentially a real trap for the novice.

I feel that the internet connection must be turned off by default and a
firewall with reasonably good and secure settings, ought to be enabled by
default on start up as well.

I also feel that a notice to enable the internet connection ought to be
 flashed on screen..

 AND

I also want to see a FLASHING internet logo - as in your internet
connection is ACTIVE and sending and receiving traffic.

This passive dead screen logo has to go and make it flash in
interesting colors... like bright orange and green or something.

 Regards

 Shane

ALSO - rather than just ask people to WINGE about important things and NOT
so important things,

Give them a manual and software and teach them or teach themselves with
online classes (downloadable) on HOW to program and fix problems themselves.

The reasons why I hate forums is that they tend to be populated by silly
people and there is not much in the way of establishing a connection between
LEARNING HOW and forum participation.

The I don't know how it's broken please fix it for me that's fine much of
the time but I'd rather be given a crash course in HOW to program, and how
to fix, rather than just stuck.

[Bug 619177] [NEW] Recent Documents List = It's a Dud.

2010-08-17 Thread Jammit
Public bug reported:

The recent documents list has FOUR bad faults.

1. It's too small

2. It's not user configurable as far as size or anything else goes I
prefer to have a recently used list of 50 to 200 documents.

3. It also in not a first in first out listing; meaning

a) It fills up with the first 8 (or so) documents opened and neglects
the next 50 documents opened after that; and

b) It should be rolling, showing documents from 42 to 50, and then 43 to
51, then 44 to 52 etc... instead of only showing the first 8.

4. And it should show ALL filed opened - not the retards version of
Windows 95, that only showed Microsoft product files in the file finder.

[Bug 521510] [NEW] Firefox doing the usual Firefox is shit 250meg memory hog doing nothing bullshit.

The usual crap i.e. Do Google: Firefox is shit for a search, and
it's 3 web pages open, 280Meg of ram, and bogging my entire system to an
almost halt while it thrashes the disk memory, doing fucking
nothing. for like an hour or so.

I now think I only tend to use it out of habit - where as chrome - just
does not give me grievance like this.

But my computer is working for me., not the other way around., and
Firefox fucks up so badly and so consistently that I tend to usually
have a kill function at the ready to wipe it and it's bullshit out,
when it starts up it's typical system hogging antics...

By the way it runs you'd think that Microsoft has employed people to
deliberately fuck the program up with regular crashes etc

 2. If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug? Be as
 detailed as possible.
This will help us to find and resolve the problem.

Yeah OK you can get your rocks off with your smarmy pedantic shit head
attitude - that is untill one day you get into face to face customer
service and one day - someone will drag you across the counter and smash
your face it.

Personally I have better things to do than be a stupid fuck who has
nothing better to do with his otherwise worthless life, other than to
run around waggling his finger at people.

So like I said,

Fuck off idiot.

[Bug 348881] Re: The Synaptic Package Manager only shows Open Office V 1.2 - Open Office is now up to version 3.1

2009-03-26 Thread Jammit

Perhaps I was not clear enough - well reading it now, it's obvious I was not
very clear at all.

I have UBU Version 8.04.

It came with Open Office V 1.2.3

While I have done some updates and additions, the opportunity to update
OO (nor Ubuntu) via the Symantic Package manager has not been presented.

And I am thinking... this is not good - OO is up to version 3+ and I am
stuck with the very old version with less useful features.

Then I read your reply and thought about what you had said and figured
that I had written up the issue all wrong.

I have found and issue that may solve it.

I have found though some alterations to System, Administration,
Software Sources - I am not sure if these are connected, but I have
just found a package in the Synaptic Package Manager called Ubuntu
Desktop that apparently has a lot to do with all the upgrades.

I will give this a try and then see how it goes.
