[Bug 2064077] Re: Overridding Left and Right do not work

2024-07-24 Thread Jaroslav Kubos
Workaround that works for me: Via Extensions app disable extension
called "Ubuntu tiling assistant"

Also, I use Down for moving windows among workspaces so I
disabled new bindings:

gsettings set org.gnome.shell.keybindings shift-overview-up '[]'
gsettings set org.gnome.shell.keybindings shift-overview-down '[]'

Further, I have experienced not showing Overlay. It can be fixed
by:

gsettings set org.gnome.mutter overlay-key "['']"

Rest of shortcuts I described in
https://www.kubos.cz/2018/07/19/ubuntu-18-workspaces-grid.html still
works, I will update article soon.

And this is a result of grub-customizer see enclosure.
So what could be bad?

The grub package in question is absolutely not used on your system. It
can't be, you have no menu.lst, which is the config file grub uses to know
what to boot.

I don't know why you have the 'grub' package installed. It is never
installed by default on an Ubuntu 16.04 system. The package name for grub
in 16.04 is 'grub-pc'.

was always updated till this update.
I do have menu.lst see the enclosure.

[Bug 1780628] Re: linux-4.15.0-23-generic RAID 5 kernel BUG

2018-12-14 Thread Jaroslav Dytrych
I have a same problem with the current version of Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS
(Bionic Beaver) with kernel 4.15.0-42-generic.

I have a new RAID 5 array with 4 12TB drives. As the array is being
initialized, it takes 3 to 10 minutes to reach a kernel bug (under the
additional system load less than 1 minute).

[Bug 1672297] Re: gnome-shell uses lots of memory, and grows over time

2018-02-10 Thread Jaroslav Svoboda
Just noticed it in updated Bionic. After boot uses around 450MB of VRAM
and then suddenly jumps to 1200MB and more when only Chrome is running.
When Chrome is closed it does not change. Using Geforce 960 GTX with 390
drivers. Freezes and also black streak flashes on one of monitors
sometimes. When the process is killed it restarts and drops back to less
then 500MB.

I still think that this is a bug, as 14.04 had no problem installing
without the EFI partition in manual mode.

I've probably created duplicate #1573722 unaware of this bug inside the
installation process. I've also found workaround (in the comments).

[Bug 1573722] Re: Ubuntu 16.04 grub2 installation problem

2016-04-22 Thread Jaroslav Pekar
I've found workaround: create EFI System partition at the beginning of
the disk. Then the installer manages to do the job. This is mentioned in
the manual:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UEFI#Creating_an_EFI_System_Partition
,but as /boot FAT32 partition which is not longer relevant in installer
as it does not allow to create /boot at FAT32.

However I still think this is workaround as 14.04 installer had no
problems with my UEFI and didn't need extra /boot partition (at least I
need not to create it)

[Bug 1573722] Re: Ubuntu 16.04 grub2 installation problem

2016-04-22 Thread Jaroslav Pekar
The UEFI warning: This machine's firmware has started the installer in
UEFI mode but it looks like there may be existing operating systems
already installed using "BIOS compatibility mode". If you continue to
install Debian in UEFI mode, it might be difficult to reboot the machine
into any BIOS-mode operating systems later.

If you wish to install in UEFI mode and don't care about keeping the
ability to boot one of the existing systems, you have the option to
force that here. If you wish to keep the option to boot an existing
operating system, you should choose NOT to force UEFI installation here.

This still holds with ecryptfs-utils 103-5 rendering eCryptFS completely

I don't use the touchpad, this happens to me when using the trackpoint.

even through Settings. Please either unbind mod4+p or give a proper
workaround.

[Bug 1064834] Re: Compiz spends 94% of its CPU time in glTexImage2D() from nux::IOpenGLSurface::InitializeLevel() from ... nux::GraphicsEngine::CreateTextureFromBackBuffer when the dash is open

2012-10-23 Thread Jaroslav
Few minutes after boot my system becomes quite unresponsive and I
narrowed it to compiz.

When I toggle the launcher on autohide compiz gets to 40% cpu usage,
when Expo(super + s) is triggered over 90%.

Here is my compizcpu.txt

Please reopen this bug.

[Bug 902557] Re: Wireless not working in 12.04 for rtl8192ce (RTL8188CE)

2012-06-23 Thread Jaroslav
For all Thinkpad users, precisely L420 series, I had this problem for
about half-year now, no suggestion works, neither the driver from
realtek nor changing kernel versions.

The general problem appears to be if the signal is weak around 50% it
starts to go nuts.

Best suggestion? If you can replace the laptop, if you don't have a
warranty and maybe want a faster option just buy a Intel® Centrino®
Advanced-N 6205 costs about 20$ works nicely with Lenovo laptops takes
5min to install.

Good luck to everybody ;)

[Bug 962615] Re: Unable to list volumes after building from snapshot

2012-06-06 Thread Jaroslav Pulchart
No you don't miss anything. The big problem of OpenStack is this - when
some bug/issue happen the DB stuff (not only) is in inconsistent state,
unfortunately OpenStack don't try to fix the inconsistent state.

So you created the volume, but in process of creating task you reach the
bug. So volume was not created and the database include record about
creating :(. Now you have to know the procedure which openstack does
and "revert it manually" (update DB records, handle iSCSI tasks,)

Ok, I give up. This should've been fixed before 10.10 was released as
this is bug, that can mess up whole system. Ubuntu is bigger shit with

[Bug 664533] [NEW] Installer stuck on keyboard layout selection

2010-10-21 Thread Jaroslav Šmíd
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubiquity

On keyboard layout selection dialog when first treeview was focused I
pressed letters "cz" in order to select "Czechia". In the right treeview
"Cambodia" has shown up. This is totaly wrong, should be something like
Czechia QWERTZ, QWERTY... Selecting another language from left treeview
(both using keyboard and mouse) does nothing, "Cambodia" remains there
as only option. I pressed "Back" button then to get back to time zone
selection and try it again, but this only disabled "Back" button and
changed cursor to busy state. I then waited until installation has
finished hoping for it to show then, but nothing happens. "Ready when
you are..." is shown as installation progress state, buttons are still
disabled, cannot go back, cannot advance further. Happened to me twice -
on laptop and in virtual machine running on desktop PC.

something about it. Even waiting for application that created the lock
to exit would be better than just print "database locked" with no other
information like "you need to run manually blahblah to fix your

[Bug 632410] Re: Synaptic locks when sorting packages by "supported by canonical" column

2010-09-11 Thread Jaroslav Šmíd
I found out that when I wait like 1 minute it starts responding again.
It seems that the sorting function is very very very slow. Sorting _all_
packages by name takes like 1 second, but sorting by "Supported by
Canonical" takes 1 minute ... one would say that sorting by name must be
much slower than sorting by some kind of boolean value. Something really
wrong with that sort function.

[Bug 632413] [NEW] Package instalation fails due to update manager interference

2010-09-07 Thread Jaroslav Šmíd
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: synaptic

When updating or installing software using synaptic package manager, it
sometimes fails because packages database gets locked in the middle of
installation, possibly by update manager. Synaptic should lock the
database when starting the installation and unlock when it is complete,
not lock before each separate package is being installed and unlock when
it is installed and than lock-unlock again a again.

[Bug 632410] [NEW] Synaptic locks when sorting packages by "supported by canonical" column

2010-09-07 Thread Jaroslav Šmíd

Binary package hint: synaptic

How to reproduce:
Launch synaptic package manager
Click "Supported by Canonical" column as you would want to sort packages by it.

What happens:
Synaptic stops responding, possibly locked in infinite loop somewhere (sort
function?)

[Bug 586402] [NEW] Scrolling with touchpad sometimes doesn't work

2010-05-27 Thread Jaroslav Šmíd
Public bug reported:

I have Dell Studio 1535 laptop with Alps touchpad. Scrolling in right
part of the touchpad usually works, but sometimes it just does not. When
it is not working, touchpad tab is not shown in mouse configuration tool
in gnome and there is no way to enable the scrolling again. I have to
reboot (sometimes several times) so that the scrolling works again.

Relevant part from Xorg.log.0:

(II) config/udev: Adding input device PS/2 ALPS GlidePoint (/dev/input/event14)
(**) PS/2 ALPS GlidePoint: Applying InputClass "evdev pointer catchall"

[Bug 583007] Re: Everything is too big

2010-05-20 Thread Jaroslav Šmíd
>From left to right, top to bottom:
1) this is just about running the search every time letter changes. nothing to
do with this bug
2) What about enlarging the padding about 50px, the text is not readable
because of small padding (irony)
3) mnemonics - why are they visible if it is turned off in default theme?
comboboxes - doesn't need comment, it is clearly visible that this is not
rendered correctly. The same apply for the rest
4) Plenty of wasted space, everything big, too much padding. Comparison is
given with MS calc.
5) Plenty of wasted space - just look at the toolbar. Unusable application - it
can't even create new folder on the disc. It doesn't correctly create ISO Level
3 discs. Comparison is given with InfraRecorder which uses the same tools as
brasero for burning.
6) "Steps" in gradients, again. I already reported this for previous versions.
This is just ugly. If you can't create gradients without these steps, or you
just need the space on the disc, why don't you use background without them?
E.g. use a photo of some nature - there are not so visible JPEG artefacts.
Combobox is not correctly rendered according to theme.
7) Why USC says flash is not available for amd64? It is! I know it is beta or
maybe alpha version, but it works, is stable (it never crashed my browser and
I'm using it over a year every day). Not being in official reposity doesn't
mean it doesn't exist! Moreover you say canonical doesn't provide updates for
flash. Well, if it "doesn't exist", how could you.
8) The most usable application in Ubuntu

[Bug 555896] [NEW] Username starting with upper letter marked as OK during install and the refused

2010-04-05 Thread Jaroslav Šmíd
Public bug reported:

When you type username starting with upper letter during Ubuntu 10.04
installation, it is marked as it is correct with green tick. Then if you
click "Forward" button, such username is refused with message that it
should not start with upper letter. Well, you should either allow it (as
OpenSUSE does) or not mark it as OK when it is typed.

[Bug 531654] Re: Make shutdown and user menu separate applets

2010-04-04 Thread Jaroslav Šmíd
Well, this is good solution for me. But what if there were 2 (or more) users of
one computer and first one would like to have it hidden but second one would
like to have it shown.
C'mon, would it really be that hard to make it configurable? To program one
submenu with one or two checkboxes is question of at most 5 minutes and it
would really help. Or would you like users to yell "Hey, ubuntu is piece of *
as you can't remove IM status indicator without removing shoutdown menu", "you
can't remove envelope stuff without removing volume control". Not all ubuntu's
users know this cannot be hidden as they just watch the screenshot someone
makes. That could be why they don't report this as well, but when the final
version is released, I believe this will be number one people will hate about
Ubuntu. Not everyone want to be "part" of social networks.
But gess what, Sebastian, they won't fix it. They do not want to. As they
didn't want to fix that wallperer included in Ubuntu 8.10 with visible steps in
gradients as I reported half year ago, because it would add 1MB to ISO image
(which could be saved by not including mono and by including better
alternatives not dependent on mono). New wallpaper contains them again and
wallpaper is among first things users notice and it's part of "first
impression". And when you see the wallpaper, you just say - hey, they don't
care what people think. And they removed gimp (a lot of saved space), but not
because of wallpaper, but to include social piece of *. Why don't they just
make better wallpaper. What is problem with some kind of "nature" in the
wallpaper. There are not that visible jpeg artefacts. On "one color" wallpaper,
there are.
They just release it, because they get money from sponsors, not from most of
their users. They are not releasing Ubuntu for people, they are releasing it
for themselves. That is why they won't fix this bug as well.

I'm impulsive. I know it. I have personality disorder, but I had to say what I
thought.

Is this in lucid yet? I can see no difference, it is still one applet
and there is no schema for /system/indicator/me/anonymous, setting it
with gconftool-2 has no effect ...

2010-03-05 Thread Jaroslav Šmíd
Unfortunately, the shutdown applet doesn't have an option to log out -
that would require to add logout applet. I woudn't mind, but their icons
don't quite fit the ubuntu style icons, moreover the icons are quite
bigger then other.
