[Bug 572772] Re: cannot save images on kubuntu 10.04 firefox

2010-11-03 Thread Jason Straight (LeeJunFan)
This happens to me all the time, the fix for me is to kill firefox and
restart it. It doesn't seem to be anything to do with the site or page.
I can fail on a pic, kill firefox, start it and let it use crash
recovery to open all the pages it had open before, then save the same
picture it failed on before (every time).

I'm running 2.6.35-22.33 and still have the problem. I wonder what BIOS
versions the working/non working lab machines have. Mine is A05 at the
moment.

[Bug 371066] Re: xorg key events not registering causing missed keypresses and sticking key repeats

2010-05-10 Thread Jason Straight (LeeJunFan)
RE: Jason, I'm sure you've read about
http://ajaxxx.livejournal.com/62378.html in bug 124406. This makes it
all the more likely to be an Xorg bug. Have you reported it to the Xorg
devs?

I missed this originally, just went and read about it. If my
understanding is right this one only happens when there's mouse input. I
disabled my touchpad and unplugged my mouse and tested and still have
the symptoms.

[Bug 480855] [NEW] useradd says a group that exists does not

2009-11-11 Thread Jason Straight (LeeJunFan)
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: passwd

Karmic i386
ii passwd 1:4.1.4.1-1ubuntu2

When adding a new user to the library system which has MANY users/groups
useradd fails and says that various groups do not exist

r...@libuntu:/etc# useradd -m -s /bin/bash -G cdrom,floppy,audio,video,plugdev
testing123
useradd: group 'cdrom' does not exist
useradd: group 'floppy' does not exist
useradd: group 'audio' does not exist
useradd: group 'video' does not exist
useradd: group 'plugdev' does not exist

However they do exist in /etc/group (I currently have shadowing off to
verify)

r...@libuntu:/etc# groupadd cdrom
groupadd: group 'cdrom' already exists

I can do this:

r...@libuntu:/etc# gpasswd -a testing123 cdrom
Adding user testing123 to group cdrom

This doesn't work either though:

r...@libuntu:/etc# usermod -G cdrom,floppy,audio,video,plugdev testing123
usermod: group 'cdrom' does not exist
usermod: group 'floppy' does not exist
usermod: group 'audio' does not exist
usermod: group 'video' does not exist
usermod: group 'plugdev' does not exist

I've included the group file, there are a lot of users as this is from a public
library where each user gets a $HOME :)

[Bug 461133] Re: karmic: nfs shares are not mounted at boot

2009-11-01 Thread Jason Straight (LeeJunFan)
I think what's going on here is that the first mountall isn't omitting
network filesystems like it should be. I could be wrong - I don't know
how to monitor upstart in a way to debug which of the various mountalls
are being run when it hangs.

However if the network and portmap aren't up then this is usually what
happens.

[Bug 371066] Re: xorg key events not registering causing missed keypresses and sticking key repeats

2009-10-26 Thread Jason Straight (LeeJunFan)
Standard SCIM. Assuming I did everything right it still does it with
ibus.

I installed ibus, chewing, and the gtk/qt parts, started the daemon and
ran:

QT_IM_MODULE=ibus konsole

I assume it worked right because I didn't get the error about the daemon
not running that I did the first time I tried.

ibus documentation seems a little lacking.

[Bug 456954] [NEW] KDE notifications in karmic do not play completely

2009-10-20 Thread Jason Straight (LeeJunFan)
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdebase-runtime

The KDE notifications (knotify?) do not play the complete sounds, only
the first 1-2 seconds of a sound. If you choose to use an external
player such as mplayer it works fine, but still unable to hit the play
button on the configuration page for the event.

for example, if I set powerdevil event for AC unplugged to play
/usr/share/sounds/k3b_error.wav and hit the play button to the left of
the file name it will play about a second of the sound.

Setting the system to use mplayer will allow the actual event to play
completely, but the preview still only plays 1 second. Kalarm seems to
use phonon directly for it's sound events and therefore will not play
the complete sound on an alarm event.

I've tried rm'ing the config files for phonon and knotifyrc from the
.kde/share/config dirs to start with defaults, still does it.

I'm using the xine backend, xine itself (via gui) plays the same file
completely, all other sound works.

[Bug 303595] Re: Gsynaptics loses settings on resume

2009-10-02 Thread Jason Straight (LeeJunFan)
Pedro Ângelo,

I added the script I wrote to

formatting system kicked out the #!/bin/bash for some reason.

Did you get it to run okay after adding the magic line? I've been

[Bug 303595] Re: Gsynaptics loses settings on resume

2009-09-16 Thread Jason Straight (LeeJunFan)
I just wrote a script for /etc/pm/sleep.d that will run gsynaptics-init
for all users with an X session running, so it won't matter if you're
running multiple X sessions :), everyone can have their own settings,
and won't cause a delay with the sleep command while waiting for X to
resume.

Here it is if anyone wants to work/tweak or include it with the
gsynaptics package:

#!/bin/bash

# Only run on resume/thaw
if [[ ${1} =~ (thaw|resume) ]] ; then

  synaptics() {

# sleep to give time for X
sleep 4s

who | while read line ; do
  a=(${line})
  regex="^:[[:digit:]]"
  if [[ ${a[1]} =~ $regex ]] ; then
init="sudo -H -u ${a[0]} DISPLAY=${a[1]} gsynaptics-init"
  fi
done
  }

  # run in background so sleep doesn't hold up resume
  synaptics &
  # disown the job so exiting shell doesn't kill function
  disown %1

[Bug 423916] [NEW] Network Manager shouldn't run if booting via NFS

2009-09-03 Thread Jason Straight (LeeJunFan)
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

/etc/init.d/Networkmanager should check to see if the machine is booting
via NFS before running and killing the existing network connection,
which causes the machine running via NFS to freeze.

I'd suggest checking for root=/dev/nfs in /proc/cmdline, or better yet
would be to check /proc/mounts for a line showing / to be mounted via
nfs. I would not trust /etc/mtab, that may show something different if
the NFS share is read only.

[Bug 371066] Re: xorg key events not registering causing missed keypresses and sticking key repeats

2009-08-26 Thread Jason Straight (LeeJunFan)
Tried with linux-image-2.6.31-020631rc7-generic_2.6.31-020631rc7_amd64
on my Karmic/64 partition which also has the problem as well as Jaunty.

Same problems as before, back on Jaunty now.

* Load doesn't matter
* Vanilla kernel doesn't help
* VESA driver still does it
* All keys
* External keyboard doesn't have problem connected via USB
* Newer Xorg in karmic/64 bit and Xorg in Jaunty/32 bit both tested - problem
exists in both

As stated in the original post it's also curious is that it does not do
it in console, only using X. Even if X is running and I'm logged in, and
I switch to VT it will not do it in the VT.

Forcing a high load with dd if=/dev/urandom of=/dev/null twice for both
cores makes no difference in X or console.

I don't know how you have a printer config applet at all with jaunty and

When I check the contents of package system-config-printer-kde, it's

I don't suppose there's any chance of getting this patched and

Unfortunately I updated a friend's computer [from hardy] who was quite
reliant on kalarm for e-mailing notifications to SMS to remind him of

I tried installing build-deps for kalarm to do it myself but they

[Bug 124406] Re: Keyboard keys get stuck and repeat (Feisty, Gutsy)

2009-06-02 Thread Jason Straight (LeeJunFan)
I added a bug report of my own a while ago, I didn't think with some of
the explanations here that my issue was the exact same bug, but its hard
to tell with so many people reporting.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-
evdev/+bug/371066

Anyway if it is related, concerning USB this is what I found.

My laptop keyboard is on the USB bus, and has the problem. However if I
plug in an external USB keyboard it works fine.

I've found that depressing 2 keys at the same time doesn't report both
most of the time, and will often result in a runaway 'stuck' key. Also
if I run xev and do the same xev reports a continuous keypress event
with no release when the 'stuck' keys happen.

[Bug 299590] Re: X doesn't work on "ATI Radeon HD 2400 PRO" in 8.10

2009-01-01 Thread Jason Straight (LeeJunFan)
I'm having the same problem with jaunty with a HD 3200, X starts black.
I've made sure all possible traces of fglrx are removed, and also purged
and re-installed xserver core, any ati/radeon drivers, and libgl1 mesa
and dri.

radeonhd driver works, but is god-awful slow.

[Bug 272765] Re: [kde4] Can't configure advanced printer options

2008-10-20 Thread Jason Straight (LeeJunFan)
For instance - if you setup a multifunction printer such as the toshiba
e-studio 3511 there are optional components that can be installed, there
are a lot of options that can't be set, department codes, and private
password, as well as those listed in the bug report.

If you view the attached screenshot - most of the features listed in
advanced can't be set with the current printer config too.

[Bug 282490] Re: [intrepid] dolphin crashes when exiting from archives viewed as folders

2008-10-13 Thread Jason Straight (LeeJunFan)
Tips for reproducing:

click a zip file to browse it's contents, hit the back button, or click
in the address bar to go back to the directory containing the archive
file.

Apparently if you leave the zip going directly to another directory [not
containing the zip file] it won't crash, it also doesn't crash if you
manually enter the path to the zip:/home/junfan/file.zip, then go
directly to $home. Why typing the zip:/ url directly would make a diff
is beyond me.

[Bug 282948] [NEW] [intrepid] unable to login to kde with new user (dbus possibly)

2008-10-13 Thread Jason Straight (LeeJunFan)
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdebase-workspace-bin

I'm unable to log into kde4 session with a newly created user, however
my years old user account works fine.(?) I've use Xephyr and launched
startkde with the new user. In the nested X I get an xmessage about dbus
not running.

So I tried starting dbus manually before startkde the same way it's
initialized in startkde "eval `dbus-launch --sh-syntax --exit-with-
session`", and ran startkde. KDE then starts fine for the new user.

That's kind of unfair, I don't think anyone can call any operating system, or

I do find some bugs like this annoying because they tend to be brushed aside
because kubuntu has a vision of making their own way of doing things and if
it breaks the way kde works so be it.

[Bug 199802] Re: [madwifi] NetworkManager 0.6.6-0ubuntu1 fails to connect to wireless network

2008-03-13 Thread Jason Straight (LeeJunFan)
I'm not sure if it's network-manager or wpa_supplicant's fault, but it
seems that it IS telling ath0 to associate with the network but no
network key is ever set. if you iwconfig while it's trying to associate
you'll see it set to the correct ssid, but enc remains empty.

My guess is that since calling wpa_supplicant from the command line
works it's how network-manager is calling wpa_supplicant that's the
problem.

[Bug 201330] Re: Need to whitelist multiple ATI cards, or remove blacklisting

2008-03-13 Thread Jason Straight (LeeJunFan)
I got hit by this with updates today, suddenly compiz which had been
working fine refused to start because I was using the same driver I had
been using all along. What was even more annoying was that after
locating the blacklist mention in the changelog, there was no mention
anywhere of how to override this behavior, so at the very least I think
mention of ATI and use of SKIP_CHECKS needs to be made in the manpage
for compiz.real, and in the output of compiz when it refuses to start
due to the ati driver being detected.

BTW - my working card is the same as Miguel Martinez card above.

[Bug 198489] Re: wireless loses signal when closing the lid

2008-03-06 Thread Jason Straight (LeeJunFan)
This could be related to signal quality, most laptops have their
wireless antenna's built into the lid. When you close the lid you are
changing your signal from vertical polarity to horizontal, when you have
mismatched polarity the 2 units (laptop and AP) won't be able to talk to
each other.

Try tipping your notebook on it's back with the screen open and see if
you still have signal, or open the lid all the way so the screen is
oriented horizontal.

NetworkManager: Activation (ath0) Stage 2 of 5 (Device Configure)
complete.
Trying to associate with 00:14:bf:06:ff:bd (SSID='jrs' freq=2442 MHz)
NetworkManager: Old device 'ath0' activating, won't change.
Authentication with 00:00:00:00:00:00 timed out.

Authentication with 00:00:00:00:00:00 should match the AP BSSID it's
associating with - right?

[Bug 199140] Re: Network manager shows and connects to virtual interfaces

2008-03-06 Thread Jason Straight (LeeJunFan)
I have a feeling this problem is what was causing my vmnet interfaces to
not initialize correctly as well. I ended up having to add definitions
in interfaces for my vmnet1 and vmnet8 or they came up w/o IP
configured, as well in kdenetworkmanager they showed up in the list of
configurable devices which they never did before.

Now that I have static assignments for them they don't show up in
kdenetworkmanager any longer.

[Bug 194474] Re: [hardy] kded in loop (100%CPU) when using 'mount automatically'

2008-02-27 Thread Jason Straight (LeeJunFan)
yes, I've found that it works on first run, ie when kded first starts.
Or if you killall -9 kded and restart kded it will mount them correctly,
but after kded is already running and you plug in a device with 'mount
automatically' selected it goes into 100% cpu condition.

strace shows that it tries to write apparently to dcopserver right
before this happens, then nothing else is reported.

[Bug 196224] [NEW] kded locks with 100% cpu when using 'mount automatically' in kde mounting preferences

2008-02-27 Thread Jason Straight (LeeJunFan)
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdelibs4c2a

I finally found the feature I've been looking for but it doesn't work.
:)

When in media:/ or system:/media you can right click a device, go to
properties->mounting. There you will find 'Mount automatically'. If you
check it then next time you plug that device in kded goes ape with the
CPU, and stops responding.

Of course this is still far better than just automounting everything, so
please don't for a minute think I want that 'feature' back.

[ Hardy - kdelibs4c2a 3.5.9-0ubuntu1 ]

[Bug 186350] Re: debmirror/Simple.pm Use of uninitialized value

My drive is far from empty, and I've also tried it via sudo so it
shouldn't be a perms issue.

That drive has 17G free.

[Bug 47793] Re: DRI module load fails (undefined symbol: _glapi_Dispatch)

2008-02-12 Thread Jason Straight (LeeJunFan)
The error described in this bug happens now with hardy, if you have the
ati and fglrx drivers both installed. But it's invalid anyway due to it
being an ATI issue.
