[Bug 1575053] Re: Please move the "$HOME/snap" directory to a less obtrusive location
I came to the same conclusion as aeronutt. Snaps - as is - are at best pre-production. When I saw what it does on a 18.04 LTS (like having a plethora of loopback devices, having serious performance issues), I decided to get rid of it. Not only that but having default applications (gnome-system-monitor, gnome-calculator) to be installed as snaps is just... insane. That's the kind of stable software you want in normal packages (.deb). The only thing I see that snaps are good for is third party commercial software. For that it's a relatively decent solution, because they are system independent and statically link. Still, look at Steam or Skype... Two very successful third party applications: they provided debs just fine. If Ubuntu goes snap-for-everything, I'll need to go back to something more sane. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1575053 Title: Please move the "$HOME/snap" directory to a less obtrusive location To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/snapd/+bug/1575053/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1768448] [NEW] Don't use snaps for default system packages
Public bug reported: In a fresh install, standard applications like gnome-calculator and gnome-system-monitor are installed as snaps. This results in a plethora of mounted loopback devices for basically nothing. Never mind the slow application startup times (seconds for gnome-system-monitor on a Ryzen 1700 with 32GB RAM and a Samsung EVO 960 on an M.2 interface). Removing the snaps and going back to deb packages, the performance issues go away. I can understand using snaps for third-party commercial software, but for the base system, the default debian package manager has served us well. I consider pushing snaps for default gnome applications a bug, and mismanagement of the system. This does not happen on an upgraded Ubuntu (from 16.04LTS). Snap is there, with no applications installed. That's how the default should be. $ lsb_release -a No LSB modules are available. [Bug 1762726] [NEW] Context menu does not form on passwords fields
Public bug reported: As many people I use a password manager in order to manage my logins. For that I simply copy/paste the username and password in the respective fields from another application. Given some webpages block this by JavaScript, I have the following about:config preference: dom.event.clipboardevents.enabled=false This mostly as an information, because it doesn't seem to affect the problem. Take a login page (I tried AliExpress - https://login.aliexpress.com/), and right click in the username field. A context menu is shown, containing -amongst others- "Paste". Click right in the password field, and the context menu is not shown. I would expect it to be shown. Using Ctrl-V does work. I tried a recreated profile in order to exclude profile-based issues. The same happens. This does not happen on Ubuntu 16.04LTS (59.0.2+build1-0ubuntu0.16.04.3) with equivalent version Firefox (59.0.2) I am not 100% sure this is a firefox issue. Perhaps this is Gnome related, because I use the default interface on each installation: Unity on 16.04LTS and Gnome3 on 18.04LTS. $ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu Bionic Beaver (development branch) Release:18.04 $ apt-cache policy firefox firefox: Installed: 59.0.2+build1-0ubuntu1 Candidate: 59.0.2+build1-0ubuntu1 Version table: *** 59.0.2+build1-0ubuntu1 500 500 http://it.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status ** Affects: firefox (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1762726 Title: Context menu does not form on passwords fields To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/1762726/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1755130] [NEW] After the lock screen, the graphs are empty
Public bug reported: I installed this extension on Ubuntu 18.04 (bionic beaver) upgraded from 16.04 using "do-release-update -d" in order to replace the "indicator- multiload" I used on 16.04. For that purpose it works ok, and might even be a bit more polished. However, one thing I noticed is that "indicator-multiload" keeps on "graphing" even when the session is locked (after inactivity, or Super-L). This shell extension does not: when you "log in" again from the lock screen, all graphing is reset. Expected behaviour: continued graphing. [Bug 1754703] [NEW] Reconnect fails to work
Public bug reported: I'm not entirely sure if this is the place to report this. I installed the gnome-shell-extension-disconnect-wifi from package for Ubuntu 18.04 bionic beaver, developer branch. (Using do-release-update -d). "apt show gnome-shell-extension-disconnect-wifi" reports "Version 17-2" The extension generally works, but after disconnecting from a Wireless network, the option "Reconnect $SSID" doesn't work. In syslog, I found that on line 154 of the extension there seems to be a problem. After investigating, I found that the latest version of the package (on github) has a patch for this: https://github.com/kgshank/gse-disconnect- wifi/commit/2f7fcf6a3846fc90eb1d0597415a090d3c3af1ae#diff- 1383874f3f337b537d20e50aa9f07d8d Applying this manually makes the "Reconnect $SSID" work correctly. The commit seems to indicate that this is version "18" of the extension, and it also seems to be the only commit. It may be that to fix this problem, it is sufficient to get the latest release from github and package it. ** Affects: gnome-shell-extension-disconnect-wifi (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1754703 Title: Reconnect fails to work To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell-extension-disconnect-wifi/+bug/1754703/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 441835] Re: Clicking on floppy gives no device media found
I guess this is the same problem I have, but I'm not 100% sure. I'm on 10.10/amd64 and I (still) use my floppy drive semi-regularly because I dumpster dive and thus prepare BIOS updates for older machines. Anyway, I noticed that under my current installation, being 10.10/amd64 my floppy does not work. I booted the machine under Windows XP Home and the floppy is readable there. The most surprising, though, is that I booted the 10.10/i386 LiveCD on the same machine and the floppy then works! All on the same machine. I can rule out hardware problems fairly certainly. [Bug 469781] [NEW] Ricoh Aficio CL2000 (Network + Duplex) doesn't print at all in Ubuntu 9.04 or 9.10
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: system-config-printer Hello, I have a Ricoh Aficio CL2000. That model doesn't come by default with a network interface or a duplex unit, but I have both options installed. It is a PostScript 3 enabled printer and I purchased that one because I wanted Operating System independence. In both Ubuntu 9.04 and Ubuntu 9.10 the printer will not print. When a job is sent, the printer warms up... waits a while and then shuts down itself again. It did work on previous iterations of Ubuntu, but I do not remember if it was 8.04 or 8.10 last. I can reinstall those if needed for testing purposes. However, what I know for certain is: - it works in Windows XP SP2 and SP3 with the Ricoh provided Postscript drivers - it works with Debian Lenny (up to date) without a problem. (No GNome desktop, but direct installation by http://localhost:631) - it worked on OS X 1.3 when I still had an Apple computer (long time ago) What this tells to me that it is definitely not a hardware problem. What I both did on 9.04 and 9.10 was the following: - Used the GNome Printer Configuration - localhost, and configure the already found printer on 192.168.0.203 (which is the DHCP fixed IP address provided by my OpenBSD server) and followed the instructions. Didn'r work. - Next I tried JetDirect manually... At a point it asked me to provide the PPD file. - Tried all three PPD options. Provided by Ubuntu, provided by the included Download wizard and provided my own by using those at openprinting.org and extracting the PPD from the windows drivers. - I did the above with both IPP and LPD/LPR (queue is lp according to the service manual) Didn't work either. - All of the above again *without* specifying the Duplex unit (Thought it could perhaps have an influence, it didn't) - I also tried all of the above by using the web interface of cups (http://localhost:631)... It makes no difference. Since I am a Linux System Administrator at my day job, I did the following: cat /usr/share/system-config-printer/testpage-a4.ps | nc wobbegong.sharks 9100 (wobbegong.sharks resolves to 192.168.0.203, using my own DNS on the OpenBSD server mentioned above) This prints the test page just fine. I'm at loss... I have no idea how to fix this. I have the same problem both on 9.10 (my personal desktop) and 9.04 (my work laptop). My work laptop prints just fine on a PostScript enabled Xerox 8560MFP at work. As said, I'm a sysadmin... I can run hard tests I just want to be able to print again Greetings Jorg ProblemType: Bug Architecture: i386 CupsErrorLog: Date: Mon Nov 2 00:51:50 2009 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.10 Lpstat: device for Ricoh-Aficio-CL2000: socket://wobbegong.sharks:9100 MachineType: Point of View Point of View NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia Package: system-config-printer-gnome 1.1.12+git20090826-0ubuntu8 PackageArchitecture: all Papersize: a4 PpdFiles: Ricoh-Aficio-CL2000: Ricoh Aficio CL2000 , Postscript-Ricoh 20090617 (OpenPrinting LSB 3.2) ProcCmdLine: root=/dev/mapper/lvg0-ubuntu--i386 ro single ProcEnviron: LANG=en_LU.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.31-14.48-generic SourcePackage: system-config-printer Uname: Linux 2.6.31-14-generic i686 dmi.bios.date: 06/18/2009 dmi.bios.vendor: American Megatrends Inc. dmi.bios.version: 0104 dmi.board.asset.tag: To Be Filled By O.E.M. dmi.board.name: Point of View dmi.board.vendor: Point of View dmi.board.version: 1.00 dmi.chassis.asset.tag: To Be Filled By O.E.M. dmi.chassis.type: 3 dmi.chassis.vendor: To Be Filled By O.E.M. dmi.chassis.version: To Be Filled By O.E.M. dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnAmericanMegatrendsInc.:bvr0104:bd06/18/2009:svnPointofView:pnPointofView:pvrToBeFilledByO.E.M.:rvnPointofView:rnPointofView:rvr1.00:cvnToBeFilledByO.E.M.:ct3:cvrToBeFilledByO.E.M.: dmi.product.name: Point of View dmi.product.version: To Be Filled By O.E.M. dmi.sys.vendor: Point of View ** Affects: system-config-printer (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug i386 -- Ricoh Aficio CL2000 (Network + Duplex) doesn't print at all in Ubuntu 9.04 or 9.10 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/469781 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
