Sorry but I have emigrated to Spain and left that particular machine in
the UK.

I doubt that I will return this year.

 Hi JayBee66,

If you could also please test the latest upstream kernel available that would
be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue.
  Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested
the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This
can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at
the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing'
text. Please let us know your results.

 Thanks in advance.

[Bug 485311] [NEW] No sound

2009-11-19 Thread JayBee66
Public bug reported:

Recently upgraded to 9.10 on my HP 2133 netbook.

Looking at Sound Preferences there are no devices listed in Input tab.
The only output device is Dummy Output Stereo.

When booting up I hear only the short drum riff but no login tune.

There is no sound from any application.

[Bug 485311] Re: No sound

2009-11-19 Thread JayBee66
Neither sl-modem-daemon and timidity were installed.

I installed linux-backports-modules-alsa-karmic-generic.

On first reboot I got the login tune but still no sound.

Tried a second reboot, the driver was found and I managed to play some
music.

However, after about 5 minutes the driver was lost and I am back to
Dummy Output. No sound again.

[Bug 485311] Re: No sound

2009-11-19 Thread JayBee66
I rebooted again and let the machine be. No problems.

I then clicked on Sound Preferences and the mere act of clicking the
Hardware tab caused the driver to fail.
