[Bug 1752850] [NEW] bash-completion script prevent direxpand to be effective

2018-03-02 Thread jean paul
Public bug reported:

I am submitting after verifying it is really a bug by asking a question
in askubuntu: https://askubuntu.com/questions/1010931/direxpand-
unexpected-behavior

With the default bash, bash option `direxpand` is unset by default:

shopt direxpand
direxpand off

So normally when I type:

proc=/proc
ls $proc/

I should see no expansion, but I see

ls /proc/

After investigation it is the bash-completion script which overide
direxpand. I do not know if this could be avoided...

[Bug 1311316] Re: After locking screen there is no input field to type password for unlock

2014-12-01 Thread Jean-Paul Calderone
It doesn't appear as though 7.2.3+14.04.20140826-0ubuntu1 is likely to
actually include the fix for this issue. The fix wasn't even committed
until several weeks after that package was created (as far as I can
tell). The changelog entry for that page doesn't refer this bug number
either. I'm not sure why Marco Trevisan (Treviño) (3v1n0) linked to
that package's changelog. Perhaps the fix was initially planned to be
included in that package but was then removed? Or perhaps some other
misunderstanding has occurred.

What are the changes that this fix will make it into 14.04?

[Bug 900792] Re: Python 2.7 SocketServer socket shutdown is incompatible with pyOpenSSL

2014-11-19 Thread Jean-Paul Calderone
Note that issues are tracked on github now. All Launchpad issues were
transferred there... Or I thought they were. I can't find this one on
github, though. :(

pyOpenSSL code is also now on github. You can find branches and pull
requests there (and presumably perusing them will answer your question
about whether anyone is working on this issue).

[Bug 1378768] [NEW] windows appear on wrong display after unsuspend

2014-10-08 Thread Jean-Paul Calderone
Public bug reported:

Configuration:

x230 laptop with an external monitor attached via hdmi (using minidisplay ->
hdmi adapter).
Tbe builtin display resolution is 1366x768.
The external display resolution is 1920x1080.
Both displays are on.
Displays are not mirrored.
The external monitor is configured as positioned above the internal display,
aligned along their left edges.

Action:

Run gnome-terminal maximized and positioned on the external display.
Run chrome maximized and positioned on the internal display.
Close the laptop lid to cause the system to suspend.
Wait for the system to suspend and for the external display to go to sleep.
Open the laptop lid.

Observed outcome:

Both gnome-terminal and chrome are now positioned on the external
display and maximized.

Expected outcome:

Both windows are positioned in the same place they were positioned
before the suspend/resume cycle.

[Bug 1359474] [NEW] sdl video output plugin only uses opengl, cannot use x11

2014-08-20 Thread Jean-Paul Calderone
Public bug reported:

SDL supports a few different strategies for getting video onto a
display. One of these is to use OpenGL. This performs very poorly if
there is no actual hardware OpenGL support. Another is to use the X11
protocol. This typically works better when there is no hardware
acceleration available.

Using `mpv --vo sdl` there is no way to ask SDL to use X11 instead of
OpenGL (which is selected by default).

It would be great if there were a way. This is a reason it might be
difficult to switch from mplayer to mpv - in the case where, mplayer's
SDL usage results in X11 being used and video playback operating
reasonably and mpv's SDL usage results in OpenGL being used and video
playback performing too poorly to tolerate.

[Bug 542268] Re: Mplayer & dvdnav - No stream found to handle url

2014-08-08 Thread Jean-Paul Calderone
Sorry, my previous comment was in error. It has been *seven* years
since Debian declined to enable dvdnav because the feature was
considered unstable by upstream. *Five* years ago they decided it was
reasonable to enable the feature and did so. It's interesting that this
bug was only opened (and rejected) *four* years - after Debian had
already decided to enable the feature. I think someone probably misread
the Debian bug thread. It seems like the was never a reason to reject
this bug report and there certainly is no such reason now.

I'm even more confused now that I notice that Reinhard Tartler seems to
have changed the Debian package to support dvdnav and then a year later
declined to do the same for the Ubuntu package?

This is still unfixed in Ubuntu 14.04. It would be really nice if the
Ubuntu mplayer package were re-built with dvdnav support. Since it has
been four years since the comment about libdvdnav being "highly
experimental" and because Debian stable now apparently considers it
stable enough to enable, it seems like it would make sense to revision
the "won't fix" decision here.

[Bug 998918] Re: openvpn openssl.cnf file missing

2013-06-19 Thread Jean Paul Galea
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 992012 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/992012

Hi,

I am running into this problem too. The issue, as eas mentioned, is in
the pattern matching.

On Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS (Precise):

> ~# dpkg -l | grep -i openssl
> ii openssl 1.0.1-4ubuntu5.9Secure
> Socket Layer (SSL) binary and related cryptographic tools
> ~# openssl version
> OpenSSL 1.0.1 14 Mar 2012

On Debian 7 (Wheezy):

> ~# dpkg -l | grep -i openssl
> ii openssl 1.0.1e-2 amd64
> Secure Socket Layer (SSL) binary and related cryptographic tools
> ~# openssl version
> OpenSSL 1.0.1e 11 Feb 2013

In ./easy-rsa/whichopensslcnf, this line tries to match [[:alnum:]] after
[[:digit:]], which is non existent for the Ubuntu package.

> elif $OPENSSL version | grep -E "1\.0\.([[:digit:]][[:alnum:]])" >
/dev/null; then

Running this pattern match manually reproduces this;

On Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS (Precise):

> ~# openssl version | grep -E "1\.0\.([[:digit:]][[:alnum:]])"
> ~# echo $?
> 1

On Debian 7 (Wheezy):

> ~ # openssl version | grep -E "1\.0\.([[:digit:]][[:alnum:]])"
> OpenSSL 1.0.1e 11 Feb 2013
> ~# echo $?
> 0

The easy fix is to remove [[:alnum:]] from the regex, but I am not sure if that
would introduce regressions.

More foolproof solution would be for the script to check if it's running
on Debian or Ubuntu and take that into consideration when doing the
pattern match.

It will also be interesting to know why the Debian package has "e" in
its version number and the Ubuntu package doesn't.

[Bug 1152405] [NEW] The BIO_should_retry manual page misdocuments the behavior of the BIO_should_read

2013-03-07 Thread Jean-Paul Calderone
Public bug reported:

The BIO_should_retry manual page contains this text:

BIO_should_write() is true if the cause of the condition is that a
BIO needs to read data.

Many of the OpenSSL APIs are confusing enough that I could believe this
is really true, but the manual page also says:

BIO_should_read() is true if the cause of the condition is that a
BIO needs to read data.

I doubt that both BIO_should_read and BIO_should_write mean the BIO
needs to read data. Probably BIO_should_write means the BIO needs to
write data.

[Bug 1147526] [NEW] man page for SSL_CTX_set_info_callback gives incorrect signature

[Bug 1145305] [NEW] SSL_CTX_set_session_cache_mode man page gives incorrect signature

2013-03-04 Thread Jean-Paul Calderone
Public bug reported:

The man page for SSL_CTX_set_session_cache_mode gives its signature as:

long SSL_CTX_set_session_cache_mode(SSL_CTX ctx, long mode);

The correct signature is:

long SSL_CTX_set_session_cache_mode(SSL_CTX *ctx, long mode);

The same goes for SSL_CTX_get_session_cache_mode, documented in the same

2013-02-13 Thread Jean-Paul Argudo
Hi there,

I think I talked too fast here... I have this morning another crash,
like before: X frozen, the mouse can hardly survive in one of the 3

Had to ssh to the box and kill -9 the X process to recover my station.

I attach the Xorg.0.20130213.log here

[Bug 1077616] Re: 10de:0ca3 (EE) [mi] EQ overflowing. Additional events will be discarded until existing events are processed

2013-02-11 Thread Jean-Paul Argudo
Hi there,

Suffered this bug too for MONTHS now.

I found something that allowed to me to avoid a DAILY crash + hard
reboot as described before here.

First, I upgraded my X.org to:

$ X -version

X.Org X Server 1.13.1.901 (1.13.2 RC 1)
Release Date: 2013-01-03
X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0
Build Operating System: Linux 2.6.24-32-xen x86_64 Ubuntu
Current Operating System: Linux deiphobe 3.7.0-7-generic #15-Ubuntu SMP Sat Dec
15 16:34:25 UTC 2012 x86_64
Kernel command line: BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz-3.7.0-7-generic
root=/dev/mapper/deiphobe-root ro quiet splash
Build Date: 04 January 2013 11:17:34AM
xorg-server
2:1.13.1.901+git20130104+server-1.13-branch.3a8c618a-0ubuntu0ricotz~quantal
(For technical support please see http://www.ubuntu.com/support)
Current version of pixman: 0.28.2
Before reporting problems, check http://wiki.x.org
to make sure that you have the latest version.

TO have this I subscribed to the "xorg-edgers-ppa-quantal" ppa:

$ cat /etc/apt/sources.list.d/xorg-edgers-ppa-quantal.list
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/xorg-edgers/ppa/ubuntu quantal main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/xorg-edgers/ppa/ubuntu quantal main

I also installed FROM this repository version 313 :
$ dpkg -l | grep nvidia
ii libkwinnvidiahack4 4:4.9.4-0ubuntu0.2
   amd64library used by
nvidia cards for the KDE window manager
ii nvidia-313
313.18-0ubuntu1~xedgers~quantal2
amd64NVIDIA binary Xorg driver, kernel module and VDPAU library
ii nvidia-settings-313
313.18-0ubuntu1~xedgers~quantal1
amd64Tool for configuring the NVIDIA graphics driver

(I was using the .sh stuff downloaded directly from nvidia.com,
including betas and such.).

I also had updates of the flash stuf in my firefox and.

TADAAA just ONE crash in 2 weeks now... Pfe

I read somewhere our bug could be related to VDPAU in older X.org :-/
(unsure...)

But now, no more blue man problem in youtube videos thanks to this, and
without any mms.cfg hack:

$ cat /etc/adobe/mms.cfg
#EnableLinuxHWVideoDecode=1
#OverrideGPUValidation=true

(all commented)

I suggest people with this same problem do the same thing as me and test...

AND the one crash I had "just" killed my X and then restarted it... Like
I did to have my problem solved before (ssh to the crashed 100% cpu
X.org on my station, kill -9 X, etc)

hope this helps! !

PS: I have GTX 560 Ti x 2 in SLI mode / Xinerama on 3 24" screens / kubuntu
12.10

Any idea on what is this?

I saw previous weeks that this EQ size goes from 512 then 1024 then..

yesterday.. So I'm completely lost. Is my problem related to this
thread's bug? Another one I couldn't find? Did nvidia solve this
thread's bug or not? What about mine???

Lost!! :)

[Bug 973096] Re: Nvidia driver causes xorg crash

2012-10-10 Thread Jean-Paul Argudo
Hi there,

Still having freezes with 304.51 on a Linux-x86_64 Ubuntu 12.04, X.Org X
Server 1.11.3

2x560 Ti in SLI with 3 monitors in Xinerama

Xorgs shows 100% cpu in top:

PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEMTIME+ COMMAND

   1949 root 20 0 295m 189m 48m R 100 3.2 17:13.36 /usr/bin/X :0
vt7 -br -nolisten tcp -auth /var/run/xauth/A:0-BChVza

See attached Xorg log for details.

I can provide files, or trace activity or whatever you need to find and
correct the bug; just ask me !

Strange thing, the driver just before seemed to work well, about "[mi]
EQ overflow continuing. " it was somehow adaptive or something like
that, then, it was freezing for a second, and then, continue.

With the 304.51 I don't see this behaviour anymore, and then X goes 100%
and freezes.

(its all about X freezing, not crashing or such).

Cheers,

[Bug 973096] Re: Nvidia driver causes xorg crash

2012-09-11 Thread Jean-Paul Argudo
@Rocko:

Per today's crash; traces in syslog:

Sep 11 10:58:19 deiphobe kernel: [11930.240664] NVRM: GPU at :02:00:

GPU-ef2ebeda-9d25-7476-8c7a-e3217ca45e79

And the ones from the time of crash related in previous Xlog posted:

Sep 7 17:29:50 deiphobe kernel: [31730.941866] NVRM: GPU at :02:00:

Im not that much into kernel, but I guess this is useless, looks like
the kernel found GPUs on the motherboard, right?

Anything more? Add some trace mode?

I have one crash per day, it's easy for me :)

[Bug 973096] Re: Nvidia driver causes xorg crash

2012-09-07 Thread Jean-Paul Argudo
Ubuntu Precise 64, (Kubuntu to be precise)

nvidia driver version 304.43-0ubuntu1~precise~xup1

Two 560 ti in SLI (3 displays)

It happens quite randomly, but at least once a day.

I attach today's xlog error.

I may add I have severe issues with flashplayer too for some time, quite
the same has those X crashes (lets say 2 months now)

1/Videos "tainted in blue"

Corrected thanks to this special config:

$ cat /etc/adobe/mms.cfg
EnableLinuxHWVideoDecode=1
OverrideGPUValidation=true

2/ Overlays : I could see a youtube video playing like in the xroot, on
any one of the virtual desktop, or even some text above the video, for
example libreoffice's one...

Corrected thanks to this:

 $ grep VDPAU /usr/bin/firefox
VDPAU_NVIDIA_NO_OVERLAY=1
export VDPAU_NVIDIA_NO_OVERLAY

(put that in the file at the beggining for example, or make this config
system-wide (useless in my case, one user, one browser ... ))

I can provide lot more information if asked. PLease ring my bell.

Cheers,

[Bug 969235] Re: Keyboard shortcuts - Update some window management shortcuts to use "Ctrl + Super" instead of just "Super"

2012-04-06 Thread Jean-Paul
Apologies, I see I've made a mistake (pity the last post in a thread
here isn't editable by its author). Vertical half-maximalisation is of
course bound to + + and + +
, not + + and + + .

[Bug 969235] Re: Keyboard shortcuts - Update some window management shortcuts to use "Ctrl + Super" instead of just "Super"

2012-04-06 Thread Jean-Paul
Though I can't speak for others, personally I don't mind the change
itself. However, the vertical "half-maximalisation" keybindings (which
I'll define as maximalisation such that you can put 2 windows next to
each other), as you guys call it should be consistent with both the
horizontal (one window op top of another) and the quadrant (making a
window occupy a quarter of the screen) half-maximalisation keys, in
keeping with basic convenience rules and the rule of least surprise.

I'm writing this using the AMD daily Live CD of April 6, and I can tell you
guys that currently, they're not consistent, which is counter-intuitive, and
that in turn seems to clash with what I perceive to be a core value of Unity:
user-friendliness.
Horizontal half-maximalisation right now is bound to + +
and + + , but because of this change, vertical
half-maximalisation is bound to + + and + +
 instead of + + and + + .

As a very frequent user of this feature, I'd like to see this to be made
consistent, ideally (though of course not necessarily) in such a way my
fingers never need to leave the home row of my keyboard.

I wasn't intending to discuss this here, but as that is already sort-of done,
I'll also give you guys my opinion of the "keybinding help overview" that's
bound to "hold ":
First off, it's really great it's there as it's quick, contains useful
information and doesn't get in the way of the user's workflow, but it has some
layouting issues (not being able to see a keybinding in full makes such an
entry effectively useless, requiring a google search), which can be corrected
by utilising the available space better. A lot of it is currently wasted.
Secondly, the overview needs to become more discoverable. I stumbled on it
entirely by accident when I was, for the first time ever, playing around with
the dash and HUD to get an impression of Unity.

[Bug 950078] Re: Segfault when using SSLv2

2012-03-09 Thread Jean-Paul Calderone
Maybe there are two bugs here. Thanks for pointing out the missing
return value checking on the `SSL_CTX_new` call.

pyOpenSSL prevents calls with SSLv2_METHOD if OPENSSL_NO_SSL2 is
defined, though. Since the Ubuntu OpenSSL package does not support
SSLv2, shouldn't it define OPENSSL_NO_SSL2?

Thanks again.

[Bug 941269] Re: package software-center 5.1.9 failed to install/upgrade: ErrorMessage: dependency problems - leaving unconfigured

2012-02-27 Thread Jean-Paul Calderone
This doesn't appear to be a problem with "twisted (Ubuntu)". More
likely it is a hardware failure - either hard drive, memory, or network
card. Some part of the installation tool chain should probably be
checking a checksum of some sort (although if you have bad memory, your
data might pass a checksum check and *then* be corrupted causing a
problem like this).

** Package changed: twisted (Ubuntu) => software-center (Ubuntu)

[Bug 390764] Re: [Jaunty Amd64] Gparted fails to format hard discs to either Ext3 or Ext4

2012-01-04 Thread Jean-Paul
I have no way of reproducing the bug atm, so I'd just mark the bug as
invalid. If I ever encounter this problem again I'll re-report it.
Besides, HAL is pretty much purged from upstream (not sure about Ubuntu)
so if hal-lock was indeed the problem, it won't be anymore.

invalid, but the resolution status which would be more appropriate is
something like "user got bored, moved on to other things, no longer

[Bug 778322] Re: python-twisted-10.2.0-1 breakes pyicq-t

2011-05-06 Thread Jean-Paul Calderone
Looking at twisted/words/topfiles/NEWS, I see that #4771 is the fix for
the jstrports bug. Looking at
http://twistedmatrix.com/trac/ticket/4771#comment:17, I see that the bug
was fixed in r30430. Looking at
http://twistedmatrix.com/trac/changeset/30430 shows the patch to be
pretty simple and probably trivial to apply to 10.2, if that would be a
preferable solution to upgrading to Twisted 11.0 in Ubuntu 11.04.

[Bug 723518] [NEW] inotify DELETE_SELF notification disappears on ecryptfs mount

2011-02-22 Thread Jean-Paul Calderone
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ecryptfs-utils

The IN_DELETE_SELF mask for inotify_add_watch indicates that an event
should be emitted when the watched path is deleted. The attached
program uses this feature successfully on a "normal" filesystem (eg
ext3). When run in an ecryptfs mount however, the notification never
appears and the program hangs indefinitely.

Tested using a brand new ecryptfs mount, created using:

  $ mkdir ecryptfs-source
  $ mkdir ecryptfs-dest
  $ sudo mount -t ecryptfs ecrypt-source/ ecrypt-dest/
  [ select defaults ]

Then run the program with ecrypt-dest as the working directory.

[Bug 708847] [NEW] Unreasonable CPU usage after receiving signal

2011-01-27 Thread Jean-Paul Calderone
Public bug reported:

run this program:

import signal
import gtk

signal.signal(signal.SIGCHLD, lambda *args: None)
gtk.main()

Send it SIGCHLD. CPU usage will go to 100% as it goes into an infinite
loop failing to read from a pipe.

Upstream bug report is https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=640738
with a patch to fix the issue.

This shows up on Maverick, at least.

The correct resolution status is "Won't Fix" not "Invalid". The bug

resolution applied is that you waited until after the version of the

problem. That's "Won't Fix" not "Invalid".

[Bug 650539] Re: Launching QT apps such as SpeedCrunch, keepassX, Lucky Backup, Pencil, Stellarium, skype, VLC crashes Xserver

2010-10-12 Thread Jean-Paul Argudo
Same problem here, experienced today

DISPLAY=:0.1 xterm ... was working, but I tried with firefox (instead
of xterm), since its my usage for 2nd screen (FF visible in all
desktops): crashed X

I then decided to not use screen1 anymore. Then in the morning, while I
was scrolling in FF helding the vertical bar, the mouse pointer got
stuck between the two screens (exactly as MikeB), X was 100% CPU. Had to
kill it remotely.

At lunch break, I "xlock"-ed my screen as allways, when back, the load
was 40+, with tons of "kscreenlock" spawned, one each minute since lock
screens mode are just changing each minute. Had to kill everything again
remotely.

Finaly, I ripped of any Screen1 or Device1 or Monitor1 in my xorg.conf,
then the 2nd monitor is completely inactive and unconsidered.

Since then, everything works fine, except my second monitor is off :/

Hope this helps.

I have some log files of everything here, I can send it,if it is of any
use.

Thanks,

2010-08-31 Thread Jean-Paul Calderone
I wonder what you have in /usr/lib/python2.6/dist-
packages/twisted/protocols/telnet.py on line 128. From the exception:

IndentationError: ('unexpected indent', ('/usr/lib/python2.6/dist-
packages/twisted/protocols/telnet.py', 128, 17, ' \xa0! # Sent only as a
reply to ECHO or NO ECHO,\n'))

It seems as though there is an extra "\xa0!" present which is not
present upstream:

http://twistedmatrix.com/trac/browser/tags/releases/twisted-10.0.0/twisted/protocols/telnet.py#L128

If those extra bytes really are there, I wonder how you got them.

[Bug 284085] Re: Ubuntu Live USB creator creates persistent install that is limited in storage size

2010-06-06 Thread Jean-Paul
Well I put Fat32 on it because my ultimate idea is having a usb key that I can
use to boot Ubuntu, but also for storing random data. Fat32 allows me to do
that, and anything other than Fat/NTFS wouldn't because random windows pc's
wouldn't recognize the partition.
Furthermore, I believe that the LBA flag is indeed set (should be visible on
the fdisk output).

2010-06-06 Thread Jean-Paul
I tried with both usb-creator-kde and usb-creator-gtk;
neither of them produced a bootable image on my usb disk, as expected.
Haven't tested it yet on a live disk yet, but attached is the fdisk -l output.
The usb disk is /dev/sdf, my root drive is /dev/sde.

As you can see, the disk is set to bootable, but it still won't boot.
If you need any other info (like the lshw output for example) please let me

[Bug 284085] Re: [Intepid] Ubuntu Live USB creator creates liveUSB's that are limited in size

2010-06-05 Thread Jean-Paul
Right now I'm trying something to copy the same image I tried before
(the desktop AMD64 version of Ubuntu Lucid, not Kubuntu), also using the
same version of usb-creator-kde (the Kubuntu Lucid version on AMD64), to
the very same usb disk as before.

What's different this time is that I'm using the dosfstools on John S.
Gruber's PPA (https://launchpad.net/~jsjgruber/+archive/ppa) to see if
my pc will recognize the disk as bootable this time.

But it's a slow process - my pc has been busy creating this image for at
least an hour. To be specific, it's the "Creating a persistence
file"-stage that's so slow.

[Bug 363245] Re: gtk_main leaks a file descriptor every time the main loop is run if threads have been initialized

2010-06-02 Thread Jean-Paul Calderone
Two things seem to be getting confused here.

1) The Lucid version performs better than any of the previously packaged
versions. So, I'd like the fixes which are present in the Lucid package
to be backported to Karmic and Hardy.

2) Separately, the Lucid version still leaks file descriptors, probably
because of some reference cycle which gobject can't deal with.

Sorry for not being more clear earlier.

Can the fixes which are in the Lucid package be backported to Karmic and
Hardy?

[Bug 363245] Re: gtk_main leaks a file descriptor every time the main loop is run if threads have been initialized

2010-05-26 Thread Jean-Paul Calderone
Yes, but not a minimal one. So far I've been unable to reproduce the
problem with a smaller test than this:

trial -u
twisted.internet.test.test_tcp.TCPClientTestsBuilder_Glib2Reactor.test_addresses

The expected behavior is for this to execute 1021 runs of the specified
unit test (from Twisted, so this requires python-twisted to be
installed, but it may be by default in Lucid). On the 1021st run, it
will hang for 30 seconds and then exit with an error.

I'm aware that a more self-contained test case would be more desirable,
but this at least demonstrates that a problem exists.

The behavior is better on Lucid than in previous releases, where the
leaks is about twice as fast and the run fails after only 507
iterations. I'd love to see enough of the related fixes backported to
karmic to fix this issue as well.

perhaps you don't realize is that the changed behavior isn't Gnome-specific -
it propagates through to other DE's, like KDE. There it suddenly becomes the
only tray icon behaving that disruptive, since in KDE the normal behavior is:
left-click brings up the "main window" and right click gives you a context menu
of options (if I remember correctly this is also the old behavior on Gnome).
So like I said in my original (duplicate) report: it's fine with me if they
want to fix all of it for Gnome, but they should keep it gnome-specific then to
avoid this kind of disruptiveness on other DE's which they don't experiment on.

[Bug 584281] [NEW] [Lucid AMD64] The transmission tray icon does not play nice with the tray in KDE

2010-05-22 Thread Jean-Paul
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: transmission

Up to Kubuntu Karmic whenever I'd click the Transmission (GTK+ GUI) icon
in the tray plasmoid, it would simply open transmission's main window.
This is not the case in Lucid, and I suspect it has to do with the
Ayatana systray project going on in Ubuntu. If this is the case I think
it shouldn't interfere with how the program works on other DEs than
Gnome, and therefore the old behavior (left click to open the program)
should be brought back for KDE.

Right now I have to right-click, and only then can I choose to open the
transmission window. And even then, there is some clash between (I think) KDE
and transmission because while the window is opened, it *isn't* focused or
brought to the front.
What follows is that I have to do 2 actions just to view transmission's main
window: right mouse click, select "show Transmission", and then I have to
select it in the task manager plasmoid to bring it to the front.

It would be nice if this wouldn't just be fixed for Maverick, but could
be backported for Lucid as well.

[Bug 569855] [NEW] [Kubuntu Lucid AMD64] Huge memleak in nepomukservices

2010-04-25 Thread Jean-Paul
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdebase-runtime

I've got the RC of the AMD64 version of Lucid installed with all the latest
updates installed. Here's the output of uptime:
j...@brutus:~/$ uptime
 19:45:11 up 3:57, 1 user, load average: 0.40, 0.57, 0.55

I think it's ridiculous that nepomuk uses about 1.1 GB of main memory (and
counting) after only a couple of hours!
I know it's growing (as opposed to being a heavy memory user and freeing the
allocated memory afterwards, which would have been less of a problem for me)
because yesterday it took about 2GB before I rebooted my pc.
See attached screenshot.

As an aside, ubuntu-bug seemingly filled in kdebase-runtime but I don't
know if nepomuk is a part of that.

[Bug 565153] [NEW] The glyph for code point 9731 is wrong

2010-04-16 Thread Jean-Paul Calderone
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ttf-freefont

The well-known unicode code point 9731 (hex 2603),
, is
rendered by the FreeMono font using what appears to be the glyph for
9732 (hex 2604) instead. This results in a comet appearing where a
snowman is expected.

This is easily reproduced. For example, a screenshot is attached which
uses Python to display this code point. The incorrect comet is clearly
visible.
