[Bug 463168] Re: gnome-panel crashes with a BadPixmap X error
I just got it with VLC. I have insufficient disk space to load gnome debugging symbols. I recommend compiling with the -ggdb1 compiler flag. That puts in enough symbol information for a backtrace. [Bug 494639] Re: panel icon has visibility and poor contrast against some backgrounds
I think it is clear that adding a border is a solution to the usability problem i describe. It sounds like you find it an undesirable one due to the impact on icon style. I certainly appreciate(d) the advantages of the 'glyph icon' solution. According to your description of the intents of humanity-dark, by using a grey taskbar, i guess i was using the icons 'out of spec'. In that context, the problem with humanity-Dark is not so grave. Even with the task bar black, contrast is sufficiently low in some viewing conditions, that i suggest brightening. Whether it would be part of Humanity or not, i think there is a need for a solution for the general problem of a varying background colour, because i don't think there will ever be sufficient coordination among icons provided by independent applications. That general problem can be addressed with borders. With Humanity, 2 use cases are covered. That is a choice with reason behind it and is better than some other icons. As a side note, if a reader should ever consider making a version with borders, you can have the borders have a transparency gradient — if it suits your sense of style. Review/Summary according to self: Use case in bug was invalid. nonetheless the problem of insufficient contrast is present, even under valid viewing conditions. Want of a general solution is 'wish list' and not necessarily part of this bug report, because Humanity is not intended to provide that general solution. -- panel icon has visibility and poor contrast against some backgrounds https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/494639 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 461709] [NEW] Mouse clicks on menus do not function or are displaced
Public bug reported: I am unsure whether this is the proper package. I have tested 2 dependent packages. In Poe (package poe.app), i am unable to clicking on menu entries has no effect. In addressmanager.app , when i first ran it, a click on the menu activated the entry about 4 entries below where i clicked instead of the entry i clicked. This was also true for clicking on the title bar. After much clicking, the clicks became correctly located on the menu, even after closing and restarting the app. I speculate that these bugs have a common cause, although i am especially uncertain now that AddressManager is correctly handling the clicks on the menu and Poe still does not. For both apps, I can summon the menu by double clicking on the icon. The keyboard functions for entries Hide Quit. [Bug 454941] Re: thinks that package information is 8 days old even after updating an hour ago (aptitude does not write update-stamp)
So, if there were any error produced in updating one of the repositories, the results would be as described: update-manager would correctly find and install updates, but not update the time stamp and so continuously report that updating is needed? I no longer recall, but it could be that I had a repository at that time which produced a non-fatal error. Around that time I had a local repository which I think produced the error that signatures or checksums could not be verified. I would expect myself to disable that repo try the update again, but perhaps I did not. It would perfectly explain the symptoms and seems the most likely explanation to me. -- thinks that package information is 8 days old even after updating an hour ago (aptitude does not write update-stamp) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/454941 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 461723] Re: Connection failed, reconnecting repeatedly
Yes, it reproduces consistently, whether the X Server is started by GDM or xinit. The following 1 line .xinitrc reproduces it: exec /usr/bin/gnome-session --sync The exec and --sync are surely superfluous. netstat -anp after booting shows no port being occupied by a settings daemon; yet tail -f .xsession-errors shows new attempts about 1/(5s) . running $ gnome-settings-daemon --no-daemon ** (gnome-settings-daemon:12817): WARNING **: Failed to acquire org.gnome.SettingsDaemon ** (gnome-settings-daemon:12817): WARNING **: Could not acquire name Exits immediately with status 0. I think those warnings are an important clue. wireshark shows repeated attempts on addresses 127.0.0.1 ::1 to connect to TCP port 4713, which is unoccupied response is RST. These problems happen even if the iptables firewall is deactivated as shown by iptables -L -- Connection failed, reconnecting repeatedly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/461723 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 461723] Re: Connection failed, reconnecting repeatedly
Since it seems to me usually desirable that the .xsession-errors recieve endless Warning entries about something that is not an error, I will convert this entry to 'Wish List'. Endless noise obscures true problems. Are other errors and messages related or separate? such as: - gnome-settings-daemon not running. - profuse Usage:program_name [address][:port] messages. [Bug 454941] Re: thinks that package information is 8 days old even after updating an hour ago
Previously, when closing the main window and re opening it, it would still show outdated information. It may be that it was running in the 'background' and shown in the panel and not shut down. I no longer recall. Right now, i do not have it start upon login. Starting it manually, it shows 'updated 3 days ago' which is probably the last time i used update-manager. The last update via aptitude was an hour or few ago, so i guess tracking updates by other programs is unimplemented. Here is a conjecture: i had aptitude running and then update-manager attempted update but could not due to resources being locked. After closing Aptitude, update-manager had some invalid state information which prevented it from operating properly. -- thinks that package information is 8 days old even after updating an hour ago https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/454941 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 451600] [NEW] keyboard layout variant chosen in install is not applied for the X server
