Re: [Bug 902570] Re: Meta key shows menu even when screen is locked
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 741869 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/741869 The bug is partially fixed. I was not able to reproduce the menu being shown by pressing meta at the lock screen. However, there are now the following 2 related issues: 1. When I press meta at the unlock screen, and then enter my password, when the screen unlocks, the Unity menu is already open, so there is still some interaction that there shouldn't be from the lock screen. 2. Occasionally after the computer screen has turned off, the Unity sidebar is visible at the lock screen. Neither are catastrophic, but still undesirable behaviours... [Bug 976595] [NEW] Machines that run 24x7 eventually lose their Unity 3d launcher bar
Public bug reported: Hello, Machines that are never turned off eventually hit an issue where the launcher bar condenses itself to the top few pixels of the launcher bar. The only way to get it back is a reboot. I have observed this to happen on several different machines, all running Unity 3d. I don't know if this affects Unity 2d or not. It is still possible to launch apps with the Meta-key, and to switch between them with Alt+Tab when this issue is happening, but the bar itself is rendered useless, it won't respond to any combination of keystrokes or mouse-clicks that I've tried. You can see the problem in the attached screenshot. I also still have the machine running with the bug, so it can be used for diagnostics or to test any workarounds. [Bug 881465] Re: ubuntu 11.10 crash at the end of installation with mdadm raid setup
I had experienced something similar in 11.04 when attempting to install grub on a RAID 1 /boot partition. My resolution was to partition like this: sda 1GB sda1 - '/boot' ext2 | 100GB sda2(md0 - ext4) '/' | max sda3(md1 - ext4) '/array1' sdb 1GB sdb1 - not mounted, ext2 | 100GB sdb2(md0 - ext4) '/' | max sdb3(md1 - ext4) '/array1' To the best of my knowledge, this is a problem with GRUB2(I'm pretty sure there are existing bugs filed for this). The unfortunate side effect of this is that /boot is not redundant, but it only takes a few minutes to reinstall grub on another free partition, like sdb1 if sda fails. I wound up leaving a spare 1GB partition at the beginning of every disk in that machine for that reason. I'll be trying something similar on a new box with Ubuntu 11.10 in the next few days, I'll post back my results. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/881465 Title: ubuntu 11.10 crash at the end of installation with mdadm raid setup To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub-installer/+bug/881465/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 825777] Re: Display will not turn on in Oneiric alpha builds
Hi Joseph, I tried the latest 3.1.0-RC10 kernel from the link you sent on an Oneiric live USB with persistence. The kernel image gave an error with no specific message of what went wrong on installing it, but otherwise seemed to install OK. Upon rebooting, not only do I not have a working laptop display, but now HDMI doesn't work either. The laptop continues to run, and there are occasional blips of hard-drive activity that indicates it's doing something. I'm not sure if it's a byproduct of the kernel install error, the existing Radeon driver problem, or if it's some kind of new ACPI/BIOS/boot regression. I can run it again, and provide logs if you tell me which logs you want. Or I can just leave it as is, and go ahead and unmark the bug as "needs upstream testing". Re: [Bug 825777] Re: Display will not turn on in Oneiric alpha builds
I assume that Llano could easily be blacklisted from the FOSS driver, and forced to use VESA like in 11.04. This bug is going to ruin the out-of-the-box experience for many people if it makes it into the final Ubuntu 11.10 CD, clearly the FOSS driver + Llano is still not ready. [Bug 825777] Re: Display will not turn on in Oneiric alpha builds
I thought this may have been fixed by some of the Radeon patches in linux 3.0.3, but it's not fixed in the latest daily builds that were re- based on 3.0.3.. There is the workaround of booting using the laptop's HDMI cable and then installing the Catalyst drivers, which does work. Unfortunately, it appears that the latest kernel has broken the wireless(and possibly other things), which works in Natty, and worked in previous daily builds of Oneiric/linux-3.0. I'm going to do more testing some time this weekend and file separate bug reports for everything else that broke. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/825777 Title: Display will not turn on in Oneiric alpha builds To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/825777/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 825777] [NEW] Display will not turn on in Oneiric alpha builds
Public bug reported: Hello, I have an ASUS K53TA laptop, it works fine with Natty except that the Catalyst driver is required for 3d capability. However, every Oneiric build I've tried, the display won't turn on. I can hear the login music playing, so I'm sure that it has booted successfully, but the display won't turn on, not even the backlight. I've tried various key and touchpad combinations to wake the display up, and I've also tried CTRL+ALT+SYSRQ+k, but nothing worked. I've heard the same from others owning different hardware with AMD Llano CPU/GPU as well, I don't believe this is specific to this particular laptop. [Bug 818928] [NEW] keystrokes not received correctly when sending to Virtualbox
Public bug reported: Certain keys are not received correctly when attempting to send to a VM window on the remote desktop. I've tested this with Ubuntu's built-in Remote Desktop VNC viewer, and with Android VNC. The one that consistently misses is '.', but there are others, and some miss occasionally but not always. Examples in a Windows XP VM: Ubuntu's remote desktop: The '.' key will cannot be typed into a URL bar, making it impossible to browse the web Android VNC: Text must be typed on the mobile device, and sent all at once. Sending "http://192.168.1.1"; may come over as Htp://19216811, or another similarly jumbled mess. This is an absolute show stopper for machines intended to be a VM host that are to be administered remotely via VNC. My reasoning that vino is causing the problem was based on the bug consistently happening regardless of the VNC client. [Bug 815259] [NEW] The entire screen freezes when the Unity menu is active
Public bug reported: This is a fairly recent issue with the latest Oneiric daily builds. Steps to reproduce: 1. I activate the Unity menu by either pressing [meta] or clicking the button in the upper left corner 2. Start typing the name of an application I'd like to launch While searching for the application, the screen will freeze for a few seconds, the mouse and keyboard are both unresponsive until it finishes the search. It's exceedingly rare now, though, probably less than 1% of the time in Firefox now. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/778578 Title: Problem with window focus when switching virtual desktops To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/778578/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 778578] Re: Problem with window focus when switching virtual desktops
Hi Harry, Clicking or ALT+TAB both work to focus the window. Also, I haven't seen the bug in Firefox in atleast a couple weeks, I think one of the updates in the past month may have partially fixed the problem. The issue still happens just as often Virtualbox.
[Bug 778595] Re: WINE windows do not display their title bar consistently when maximized
Here was my experience with dragging it to the top: If the application started up maximized, it seems to work, but after enough times (maybe 20 or so), it would eventually stop maximizing correctly. If the application wasn't maximized at startup, if would stop maximizing correctly after only 5 or 10 times. It also seemed to work a better percentage of the time if I maximized/un-maximized by repeatedly dragging the title bar to/from the top without letting go of the left mouse button. It would stop maximizing correctly sooner if you minimized the window OR if you un-maximized the window by double-clicking the title bar or clicking the un-maximize button. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/778595 Title: WINE windows do not display their title bar consistently when maximized -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 248598]
(In reply to comment #420) > Won't patch to source for Wine 1.3.21 Please see http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine- patches/2011-April/100557.html . An engine written by Huw Davies has been under development in the main WINE tree since April. I don't know if Max's engine is still necessary; you may want to test with the latest WINE and roll back to the last known good version of this patch, since I don't know if the conflicting engines would cause problems or not. I was quite surprised to see so little information divulged about such a major step for WINE. As we know from this bug, a DIB engine has been one of the most requested and longest-standing bugs in WINE, so for it to be merged essentially without commentary is a bit funny. I'd like to get perspectives from Max and others on the subject and on the engine that's being merged now if they have a minute. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/248598 Title: Slow/erratic 2d paint/redraw events on some games -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 778578] Re: Problem with window focus when switching virtual desktops when using VirtualBox-OSE
I've confirmed that this is NOT just a problem with VirtualBox, per this comment: "I suspect this is also part of a few other less prevalent glitches that occasionally happen when switching virtual desktops." There is another common glitch with Unity, this probably applies to all programs, but I most typically see it in Firefox. Occasionally, when right-clicking on a link, the context menu disappears as soon as I try to mouse-over onto it(it seems to happen sporadically after switching virtual desktops, more infrequently than VirtualBox). Also, whenever the context-menu problem is present, if I type into the URL text box, it does not suggest URLs that I've visited before as normal. I've determined that this is part of the same problem as VirtualBox. Whenever the bug is present, if I re-focus the Firefox window by pressing ALT+TAB, the bug goes away. This indicates to me that the problem is related to the Window not properly receiving focus after switching virtual desktops. Can somebody please edit "VirtualBox" out of the title of the bug? I think we can confirm this is a more general and widespread bug now. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/778578 Title: Problem with window focus when switching virtual desktops when using VirtualBox-OSE -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 778595] [NEW] WINE windows do not display their title bar consistently when maximized
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: unity The normal behavior for Windows is to merge their title bar with Unity's title bar when maximized. Here is a reproducible test case, but this bug seems to apply to all WINE apps, not just this one: Download the Windows version of Filezilla from here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/filezilla/files/FileZilla_Client/3.4.0/FileZilla_3.4.0_win32.zip/download , and run it in WINE. Maximize the window, notice it does not merge it's title bar with Unity's, there are 2 title bars when maximized Close the application Open it again, now it will start up maximized, and properly merge it's title bar with Unity's. Un-maximize and maximize the window repeatedly. Occasionally, it will maximize correctly, but most of the time, it won't. [Bug 778578] [NEW] Problem with window focus when switching virtual desktops when using VirtualBox-OSE
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: unity When switching virtual desktops by using CTRL+ALT+[up,down, left, right], or when using the desktop switcher in the Unity dock, window focus is not being correctly assigned in certain instances. Here is one way to reproduce the problem: Open a Virtualbox VM (it doesn't matter which guest OS, and it doesn't matter if guest additions are installed) Maximize the VM window, then use the Unity dock desktop switcher to switch to a different desktop Switch back to the desktop containing the VM using either the hotkeys or the dock switcher Now, try to type on the keyboard into the VM Repeat this as many times as needed to reproduce the bug. About 50% of the time, the VM won't accept any keyboard input, because the VM window doesn't have focus, even though it appears to have focus, and may be the only window on that virtual desktop. The reason I say it's window focus is because if the VM window won't accept keyboard input, you can press ALT+TAB to focus it in Ubuntu, and then it will accept keyboard input. Normally, when a VM window has focus, the VM will capture the ALT+TAB, not Ubuntu. Once the VM window has been focused with ALT+TAB, pressing ALT+TAB will be intercepted by the VM window as normal, not by Ubuntu. I suspect this is also part of a few other less prevalent glitches that occasionally happen when switching virtual desktops.
