[Bug 2063456] Re: package cephadm: dependency "cephadmlib" missing
I don't understand this being fixed. I installed a new 24.04 installation two days ago. installed cephadm today. Installed version is "19.2.0~git20240301.4c76c50-0ubuntu6" (not 6.1). Notes indicate that this should have been moved to proposed to updates by now. But it hasn't. What is the status of this fix or is there something I need to do to get this to update properly? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2063456 Title: package cephadm: dependency "cephadmlib" missing To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ceph/+bug/2063456/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 2062951] Re: Random flickering with Intel i915 (Gen9 GPUs) on Linux 6.8 (Ubuntu 24.04)
> Thank you for doing your research into the issue but I am confused by > your results. > > Are you claiming that removing mentioned Ubuntu specific commit resolves > the issue? Specifically it's the first commit where I experience the bug, so I would assume that reverting it will resolve the issue. The commit enables the following compile time kernel config options: CONFIG_INTEL_IOMMU_DEFAULT_ON=y CONFIG_INTEL_IOMMU_SCALABLE_MODE_DEFAULT_ON=y These enable the Intel IOMMU by default (although it can still be disabled by the linux command line at runtime via Grub). For completeness here is the corresponding commit in the noble kernel: https://git.launchpad.net/~ubuntu- kernel/ubuntu/+source/linux/+git/noble/commit/?id=77e530c1a864c601b96622db03bc1f38e51155f1 > What about the fact that the issue also affect upstream/mainline > kernels? I don't know how the kernel config values for the mainline builds that I linked to were derived, but in the build that I tried (built July 25 2024) the above config options were also enabled. I don't know if this is because the upstream kernel has now enabled these config options by default or if the builds that I linked to still use custom Ubuntu config options. > Are you trying to say that the issue is just related to the conditions > described in the commit and intel_iommu=igfx_off? Specifying intel_iommu= on the linux command line is a way of overriding at runtime whatever is specified by the CONFIG_INTEL_IOMMU_DEFAULT_ON config option when the kernel is compiled. Specifying intel_iommu=off would be the way to completely undo the config changed by the problematic commit, but since the bug that we are experiencing only (to my knowledge) affects graphics, I figured that intel_iommu=igfx_off would be more conservative workaround, as it only disables Intel's integrated graphics from going through the IOMMU but otherwise keeps the IOMMU enabled. It's not exactly clear to me what the benefits of having graphics going through the Intel IOMMU are, but if Intel's IOMMU was only enabled recently in Ubuntu kernels then I just assume that I won't miss whatever those benefits are. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2062951 Title: Random flickering with Intel i915 (Gen9 GPUs) on Linux 6.8 (Ubuntu 24.04) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/2062951/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 2062951] Re: Random flickering with Intel i915 (Gen9 GPUs) on Linux 6.8 (Ubuntu 24.04)
Despite some of the nondeterminism behind this bug, I believe I have bisected this bug to the following commit in the Ubuntu kernel tree: 14ebfcacaeb07b02235f2ea881fd6e34e3de0d6f . More info is available on this commit here: https://git.launchpad.net/~ubuntu- kernel/ubuntu/+source/linux/+git/unstable/commit/?id=14ebfcacaeb07b02235f2ea881fd6e34e3de0d6f The commit text reads: > UBUNTU: [Config] enable Intel DMA remapping by default > BugLink: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1951440 > > We have tried in the past to enable CONFIG_INTEL_IOMMU_DEFAULT_ON and > CONFIG_INTEL_IOMMU_SCALABLE_MODE_DEFAULT_ON (starting with Jammy), but > there were multiple issues (especially with old hardware), so we ended > up disabling these options afterwards, see LP: #1971699. > > Considering that IOMMU is enabled by default in upstream kernels, > probably most of these issues are solved now (or old hardware has been > decommissioned). > > Moreover, having this enabled by default can prevent potential issues > with modern hardware and drivers (see for example LP #1958004). > > Acked-by: Philip Cox > Acked-by: Andrei Gherzan > Signed-off-by: Andrea Righi The commit text even predicts that the commit may introduce problems with older hardware. Its predictions appear unfortunately accurate. Operating under the assumption that this commit introduced the bug, as a workaround, I have found that adding: intel_iommu=igfx_off to the GRUB_CMDLINE appears to resolve the issue for me. Unfortunately, there appears to be no relief in the newest kernels. I tried the latest daily build available here: https://kernel.ubuntu.com/mainline/daily/ ...and found that the issue still persists there with the default GRUB_CMDLINE.

[Bug 1975549] Re: NetworkManager uses tethered Android phone as ethernet connection instead of wired ethernet connection
Sebastien, do you know how I can mark my ethernet connection as the default one? The ethernet connection I want to set as default is the wired ethernet, which is enp4s0 in the dumps shown above. I cannot find a setting in the Settings program to set a default connection. I also cannot find a discussion of it in the docs.[1,2] The docs only say the program usually picks the right one:[1] In most cases the wired network connection will simply work without any changes to the default Kubuntu configuration. Wired network connections are selected as default when they are available. (And it is not picking a wired connection as stated in the docs. It is picking a Wifi connection via the Android phone). [Bug 1975549] Re: NetworkManager uses tethered Android phone as ethernet connection instead of wired ethernet connection
apport information ** Description changed: I'm running Kubuntu 22.04 LTS, x86_64, fully patched. I've been having trouble the last week or two ssh'sing into the machine, and printing from the machine when I am sitting at the keyboard. I also could not connect to my external firewall when sitting at the keyboard. I keep a Google Pixel 4a tethered to the USB hub for charging. The Android phone is running Android 12, and the phone is set to "USB Tethering". The phone is fully patched, too. I found if I reboot the machine with the phone tethered, then the machine uses the Android phone as the ethernet connection. It literally calls the connection "ethernet", as if it was using the network adapter. This is new behavior over the last week or two. This is unexpected behavior for three reasons. First, it is new behavior. Second, the wired gigabit ethernet connection is not used by default. And thrid, the Android phone's connection is called "ethernet" instead of something more meaningful like "USB" or "Android" or "wired hotspot". The third item ("ethernet" name when using Android phone) was misleading enough to waste a lot of time troubleshooting the issue. I thought I had an odd firewall issue or a mDNS issue. The reason I was having so many troubles, like printing and ssh, is the Android phone uses Wifi and it is on a different VLAN and subnet to keep traffic segregated from my trusted internal network. - It looks like I am running network-manager via systemd: # service systemd-networkd status ● systemd-networkd.service - Network Service Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/systemd-networkd.service; disabled; vendor prese> Active: inactive (dead) Docs: man:systemd-networkd.service(8) # service network-manager status ● NetworkManager.service - Network Manager Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/NetworkManager.service; enabled; vendor preset: > Active: active (running) since Mon 2022-05-23 21:16:52 EDT; 59min ago Docs: man:NetworkManager(8) Main PID: 928 (NetworkManager) Tasks: 3 (limit: 76693) Memory: 12.0M CGroup: /system.slice/NetworkManager.service └─928 /usr/sbin/NetworkManager --no-daemon ... --- ProblemType: Bug ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu27.24 Architecture: amd64 CasperMD5CheckResult: skip CurrentDesktop: KDE DistroRelease: Ubuntu 20.04 InstallationDate: Installed on 2022-02-05 (107 days ago) InstallationMedia: Kubuntu 20.04.3 LTS "Focal Fossa" - Release amd64 (20210819.1) IpRoute: default via 172.16.1.1 dev enp4s0 proto dhcp metric 100 169.254.0.0/16 dev enp4s0 scope link metric 1000 172.16.0.0/12 dev enp4s0 proto kernel scope link src 172.16.2.10 metric 100 Package: network-manager 1.22.10-1ubuntu2.3 PackageArchitecture: amd64 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.13.0-44.49~20.04.1-generic 5.13.19 Tags: focal Uname: Linux 5.13.0-44-generic x86_64 UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) UserGroups: adm cdrom dialout dip lpadmin lxd plugdev sambashare sudo _MarkForUpload: True nmcli-con: NAME UUID TYPE TIMESTAMP TIMESTAMP-REAL AUTOCONNECT AUTOCONNECT-PRIORITY READONLY DBUS-PATH ACTIVE DEVICE STATE ACTIVE-PATH SLAVE FILENAME Ethernet 5d31ea14-c1cd-318f-a982-09ce6723dadb ethernet 1653403311 Tue 24 May 2022 10:41:51 AM EDT yes -100 no /org/freedesktop/NetworkManager/Settings/1 yes enp4s0 activated /org/freedesktop/NetworkManager/ActiveConnection/4 -- /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/Ethernet.nmconnection nmcli-nm: RUNNING VERSION STATE STARTUP CONNECTIVITY NETWORKING WIFI-HW WIFI WWAN-HW WWAN running 1.22.10 connected started full enabled enabled enabled enabled enabled + --- + ProblemType: Bug + ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu27.24 + Architecture: amd64 + CasperMD5CheckResult: skip + CurrentDesktop: KDE + DistroRelease: Ubuntu 20.04 + InstallationDate: Installed on 2022-02-05 (108 days ago) + InstallationMedia: Kubuntu 20.04.3 LTS "Focal Fossa" - Release amd64 (20210819.1) + IpRoute: + default via 192.168.11.111 dev usb0 proto dhcp metric 100 + 169.254.0.0/16 dev usb0 scope link metric 1000 + 192.168.11.0/24 dev usb0 proto kernel scope link src 192.168.11.182 metric 100 + Package: network-manager 1.22.10-1ubuntu2.3 + PackageArchitecture: amd64 + ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.13.0-44.49~20.04.1-generic 5.13.19 + Tags: focal + Uname: Linux 5.13.0-44-generic x86_64 + UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) + UserGroups: adm cdrom dialout dip lpadmin lxd plugdev sambashare sudo + _MarkForUpload: True + nmcli-con: +

> It's a bit weird, https://launchpadlibrarian.net/602981658/nmcli-dev.txt > shows no connection associated to the usb device nor IP for it Thanks again Sebastien. This may be because I booted the machine with the phone unplugged. I can run apport again with the phone plugged in (and then reboot) to duplicate the issue. This caught my eye (from the apport generated files): Android phone: * ID_NET_LINK_FILE=/usr/lib/systemd/network/73-usb-net-by-mac.link NIC adapter: * ID_NET_LINK_FILE=/usr/lib/systemd/network/99-default.link I can envision a situation where 73 is given higher precedence than 99. The reason I was having so many troubles, like printing and ssh, is the Android phone uses Wifi and it is on a different VLAN and subnet to keep traffic segregated from my trusted internal network. - It looks like I am running network-manager via systemd: # service systemd-networkd status ● systemd-networkd.service - Network Service Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/systemd-networkd.service; disabled; vendor prese> Active: inactive (dead) Docs: man:systemd-networkd.service(8) # service network-manager status ● NetworkManager.service - Network Manager Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/NetworkManager.service; enabled; vendor preset: > Active: active (running) since Mon 2022-05-23 21:16:52 EDT; 59min ago Docs: man:NetworkManager(8) Main PID: 928 (NetworkManager) Tasks: 3 (limit: 76693) Memory: 12.0M CGroup: /system.slice/NetworkManager.service └─928 /usr/sbin/NetworkManager --no-daemon ... + --- + ProblemType: Bug + ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu27.24 + Architecture: amd64 + CasperMD5CheckResult: skip + CurrentDesktop: KDE + DistroRelease: Ubuntu 20.04 + InstallationDate: Installed on 2022-02-05 (107 days ago) + InstallationMedia: Kubuntu 20.04.3 LTS "Focal Fossa" - Release amd64 (20210819.1) + IpRoute: + default via 172.16.1.1 dev enp4s0 proto dhcp metric 100 + 169.254.0.0/16 dev enp4s0 scope link metric 1000 + 172.16.0.0/12 dev enp4s0 proto kernel scope link src 172.16.2.10 metric 100 + Package: network-manager 1.22.10-1ubuntu2.3 + PackageArchitecture: amd64 + ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.13.0-44.49~20.04.1-generic 5.13.19 + Tags: focal + Uname: Linux 5.13.0-44-generic x86_64 + UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) + UserGroups: adm cdrom dialout dip lpadmin lxd plugdev sambashare sudo + _MarkForUpload: True + nmcli-con: + NAME UUID TYPE TIMESTAMP TIMESTAMP-REAL AUTOCONNECT AUTOCONNECT-PRIORITY READONLY DBUS-PATH ACTIVE DEVICE STATE ACTIVE-PATH SLAVE FILENAME + Ethernet 5d31ea14-c1cd-318f-a982-09ce6723dadb ethernet 1653403311 Tue 24 May 2022 10:41:51 AM EDT yes -100 no /org/freedesktop/NetworkManager/Settings/1 yes enp4s0 activated /org/freedesktop/NetworkManager/ActiveConnection/4 -- /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/Ethernet.nmconnection + nmcli-nm: + RUNNING VERSION STATE STARTUP CONNECTIVITY NETWORKING WIFI-HW WIFI WWAN-HW WWAN + running 1.22.10 connected started full enabled enabled enabled enabled enabled ** Attachment added: "CRDA.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1975549/+attachment/5592634/+files/CRDA.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1975549 Title: NetworkManager uses tethered Android phone as ethernet connection instead of wired ethernet connection To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager/+bug/1975549/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1975549] [NEW] NetworkManager uses tethered Android phone as ethernet connection instead of wired ethernet connection
Public bug reported: I'm running Kubuntu 22.04 LTS, x86_64, fully patched. ** Affects: network-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1975549 Title: NetworkManager uses tethered Android phone as ethernet connection instead of wired ethernet connection To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager/+bug/1975549/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1956376] [NEW] Constant stream of message boxes with "Unable to mount MTP device" plugging in GoPro HERO 7
Public bug reported: Hi Everyone, I am using Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS, x86_64, fully patched. I installed Cinnamon and got rid of GNOME because I needed a tiling window manager. The File Manager used with Cinnamon is Nemo. I bought a GoPro HERO 7 and plugged it in over USB to charge the battery. The result is a constant stream of message boxes that states: Unable to mount HERO7 Unable to open MTP device "xxx, yyy" In the message, xxx appear to always be 001. yyy changes, and takes the values 001, 002, 003, 004, ... A new message box appears approximately every 10 seconds. I think one message box will do just fine. There's no need to spam me every 10 seconds. My apologies if this is not a Nemo issue. Looking at the message box, it is the sort of thing provided by the file manager. == $ lsb_release -a No LSB modules are available. [Bug 1956040] [NEW] Malformed TLS handshake with OpenSSL 3.0 (breaks subversion)
Public bug reported: This bug is a regression in libserf-1-1 version 1.3.9-10ubuntu1, which switched to OpenSSL 3.0. Version 1.3.9-10, which uses OpenSSL 1.1, does not have this bug. Using version 1.3.9-10ubuntu1, Subversion, which is the only dependant of this package in the Ubuntu repository, breaks when using the https protocol. For instance, the command... svn info https://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/subversion/trunk ... will no longer work and, depending on the server, may close the connection or return some sort of error. Attempting to analyze the problem in wireshark, I discovered that the TLS traffic generated by libserf is malformed and cannot be parsed by wireshark's packet disassemblers. At a glance, it appears that libserf is sending a raw TLS Client Hello without first sending a TLS record header. For instance, to use the illustrated handshake example here [1], the handshake that libserf generates appears to be missing the first five bytes (the TLS record header) and instead begins with what the illustrated example calls the TLS handshake header. [Bug 1922949] [NEW] Can't stop the computer from sleeping or hibernating; lost SSH access
Public bug reported: I'm using Ubuntu 20.04 LTS, x86_64, fully patched. I removed the stock window/desktop manager because Gnome3 and its derivatives suck. I installed Cinnamon desktop to get a usable desktop that I can interact with. The login manager is lightdm. Despite my sincerest efforts, I cannot stop this computer from sleeping or hibernating. I've set my power management settings thusly: * turn monitor off: 15 minutes * turn disk off: never * lock computer: off I disabled apcid.service. I cannot find a setting in lightdm.conf to disable sleep or hibernation. After about 15 minutes, the computer sleeps or hibernates and I lose my SSH connection. The only workaround I have found is go over to the computer and login. Once logged in the computer honors the "no sleep" or "no hibernate" settings. Ubuntu's wiki article on power management does not offer useful advice. I try things suggested in places like Ask Ubuntu and Super User but the problem persists. Based on my searching this appears to be a widespread problem on Linux. Sadly, OS X and Windows don't seem to have these problems. Only Linux. This is incredibly annoying. ** Affects: cinnamon (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1922949 Title: Can't stop the computer from sleeping or hibernating; lost SSH access To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cinnamon/+bug/1922949/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1910567] [NEW] Wget cannot download from ftp.gnu.org using Let's Encrypt R3 CA certificate
Public bug reported: I'm working on Ubuntu 18.05, x86_64, fully patched. The system has been through both apt-get upgrade and dist-upgrade. The system provides Wget 1.19.4 The program below fails to download from ftp.gnu.org using Let's Encrypt R3 CA certificate. Let's Encrypt R3 is the issuer for ftp.gnu.org. It is about the best trust anchor you can choose (sans pinning the host's public key). If I use Daniel Stenberg's cacert.pem (https://curl.haxx.se/docs/caextract.html), then the download succeeds. I'm not a fan of using the CA Zoo when I know the Issuing CA in advance. There's no reason to trust every PKI in the world. If I use a newer version of Wget built with an OpenSSL backend, then the download succeeds. For example, Wget 1.20.3 and Wget 1.21 with an OpenSSL backend work fine. - $ ./wget-test.sh Failed to download Ncurses # Hmm... [Bug 1910475] Re: VLC does not open 2nd, 3rd, 4th, ... movie when double-clicking the movie
** Description changed: I have Linux Mint 20 (ulyana), x86_64, fully patched. The machine has - been through a upgrade and dist-upgrade. The machine has 3.0.9.2-1 - installed. Mint is an Ubuntu derivative, and apt-cache for thepackage + been through a upgrade and dist-upgrade. The machine has VLC 3.0.9.2-1 + installed. Mint is an Ubuntu derivative, and apt-cache for the package says to file bug reports here. VLC is the default media player. I copied two DVDs to my hard drive. The first movie is THE_PATRIOT.mov. The second movie is THE_NATURAL.mov. I double click THE_PATRIOT.mov the media player opens and plays the movie. Everything is OK. Next I close the player by clicking 'X' in the upper right hand corner of the window. Next, I double click THE_NATURAL.mov. The media player fails to open and play the movie. I'm not sure where the failure is, but there is no error displayed to me. I find if I perform a `ps -A | grep vlc` and then `kill -9 ` the VLC player will start working again. I also find if I choose Media->Quit the media player does exit, and the VLC player will start working again. I noticed there's a Tools->Preference setting about minimizing the player in Interface->Main Interface->Qt. Unchecking "Systray icon" does not help. The same behavior is present. The bigger problem I have is, the machine is for my parents. They are getting off Windows. They don't know how to use the Linux command line. They are barely qualified to use Linux, and that's why they are getting a Linux-on-Training-Wheels via Linux Mint. The ps/grep/kill chain is too complicated for them. And I probably won't be able to break their habit of clicking "X" to close an app. They spent years learning it, and they probably won't be able to unlearn it for this one program. -- It would be incredibly helpful for beginners if clicking the "X" button actually closed the media player. That way, the media player is ready for the next movie. If you can't fix the "X" button, then please consider fixing the communication problem that's getting in the way of opening the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, ... movie when a user double clicks on a movie. Finally, the issue may be present when clicking on songs in the Music folder.
