Weather Indicator 12.07.30 'Cloudy 10' (?) is working fine for me, now.

But now the HPLIP icon is stuck in the upper panel after a recent respite
of repair. I know, different issue.

[Bug 373690] Re: Synaptic touchpad very slow after suspend/resume

2012-06-10 Thread Jim Chatman
I'm not completely certain that my problem is exactly the same, but I
can find nothing else that better describes my problem. Here's what's
going on:

When I click objects once, nothing happens. I usually end up clicking
everything twice or more, and it's the more that turns into a problem as
it usually takes me somewhere I'd rather not be.

I read above where it happens to the one user after suspend. I'll have
to check to see if that's the case with me, too, but initially I think
not.

Also, I thought at first that this was a Google Chrome issue, but it
happens as often not in the browser as in it.

I'm using Ubuntu 12.04, Unity 3D, anything else needed, let me know.

Thank you, in advance!

As of the reset, the launcher returned to full-size from the 32-pixel width I
had set prior to reset. But, the background does NOT appear washed out. I am
going to restart my machine and see what happens then.

I will update this thread upon restart.

I left terminal running on my machine, but there was nothing more, so I
restarted. The washed-out error was corrected, as I show in the attached
screenshot including the dash. Notice, as I indicated when I first
submitted the bug, that the HPLIP icon is still shown in the upper
panel, although I have 'Hide when inactive' selected. I don't know if
that was part of this fix or not, but there it is.

I'm assuming that it's safe to reset the size of my launcher to 32
pixels, so I'm going to do that.

[Bug 1015553] Re: launcher and dash appear washed out, too light to read

2012-06-23 Thread Jim Chatman
OK, after startup today, all's well. The launcher has returned to the
settings I have with no problems at all. The dash is also fine. The
HPLIP indicator is still failing to hide in the upper panel, but that's
minor, and, as I stated before, I'm not certain if it's even related to
this.

Thank you all for your help. It's amazing how fast and well problems in
Ubuntu are fixed, even the minor ones. Had this been Windows, I would
have to live with it forever.

Thank you!

Re: [Bug 1024177] Re: IcedTea plug-in out of date

2012-07-13 Thread Jim Chatman
No. I did get the updates and applied them, but I still get this error
message: IcedTea was blocked because it is out of date. Also, this is
happening in Chrome, not Firefox, for what it's worth. I don't know who
moved this issue to Firefox, if it matters.

[Bug 937179] Re: horizontal scroll not working

2012-03-03 Thread Jim Chatman
Same with me, I have enabled horizontal scrolling, checked, double
checked and triple checked that it's still enabled; it is. It works fine
until I put the machine to sleep and then wake it. At that point,
vertical scrolling works perfectly, but horizontal scrolling doesn't,
even if I move the cursor to the scroll bar. But it will scroll by
holding down the left button and dragging the scroll bar to the right or
left.

The weirdest thing though is that it doesn't do it every time it's
woken. Usually, yes, but not always. It's done this since at least
11.04, and if I recall correctly it did it as far back as 10.04 through
10.10.

2010-10-13 Thread Jim Chatman
To remedy this problem, I removed and reinstalled all gstreamer0.10
packages using Synaptic Package Manager and restarted my machine. It
worked perfectly throughout the remainder of the DVD I had been
watching. The wonderful thing to me about that as a former Windows user
is that from problem to fix I spent less than 5 minutes. Imagine
running into that problem in Windows; I'd still be on hold...

Thanks to everyone who helped create Ubuntu! You guys are amazing.

[Bug 780497] [NEW] Laptop won't suspend when closed

2011-05-10 Thread Jim Chatman
Public bug reported:

My laptop will not suspend when closed unless I suspend it manually
once. After that, and until the next shutdown, it will suspend every
time when I close the lid. Also, when I manually suspend the laptop,
upon reopening it I get a login screen. The login screen doesn't appear
when the lid is just closed to suspend.

** Affects: ubuntu
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

Re: [Bug 780497] Re: Laptop won't suspend when closed

2011-05-12 Thread Jim Chatman
At some point in the, likely, far distant future, I may have time to do
that. In the short run, it would be MORE convenient for the great many of us
who beta test this system to have one comprehensive and simple bug reporting
system. It's highly likely that if you did you would get timely, complete,
and accurate reporting. While I do realize that those who work to build
Ubuntu are volunteers, you must remember that those of us who test it are,
too. And unlike you, many of us have only cursory experience with these
matters. To that end, it would seem that a team might consider my
aforementioned proposal.

Thank you for your time.

OK, that seems to have returned some functionality, but I still can't access
my folders and files. Is there a way to roll this back to 11.04?

You're right, there was no easy way to roll back. In the end, I downloaded
11.04 and started over. Nothing wrong with that. I appreciate the help
though, very much. Ubuntu is still the best thing around and I appreciate
the work that you folks do to bring it to us! Thank you!

[Bug 772318] [NEW] Ubuntu crash

2011-04-28 Thread Jim Chatman
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

This seems to happen primarily when I'm web browsing, and I believe that
one site in particular might cause it more often, but NOT exclusively.
That site is Adam4Adam.com. Be forewarned that it is a gay male
connection site and contains nudity and NSFW imagery. I know that at
least on 2 occasions Ubuntu has crashed when I click on the 'My Mailbox'
link, but it doesn't do it every time that link is clicked.
