[Bug 1742626] Re: Unstable LTS kernel 4.13.0-26

2018-01-11 Thread Joe Giampaoli
Absolutely! I got errors on my Desktop PC with Nvidia GPU during the
upgrade when it was building modules for the graphics card. When I
updated my laptop with intel graphics, things were not stable (graphics-
wise). Reverting to kernel 4.10.0-xx things are back to normal. Had to
remove on both computers the newer kernel and anything related to HWE

Terrible upgrade, I see many posts and bug reports in the last hours
with everyone having similar issues...

[Bug 1546328] Re: Systray option does not work.

2017-10-09 Thread Joe Giampaoli
0.4.2 is really buggy regarding the system tray icon. I had to compile
it myself, using 0.4.5 is working well, although I'm not sure if it's
because I built it against QT4:

./configure --with-qt4

I can confirm as ajgreeny says.

The applet was fixed for the original bug of this report for some time,
but now it has the following bug where searching for a location is not
working, it searches and return no results.

[Bug 875469] Re: Text in Inkscape 0.48.2 not rendering

2011-11-10 Thread Joe Giampaoli
Hi Alex, sorry I have bot been back, well I have only been able to test
inkscape in ubuntu 10.04 LTS, which is the one I use, all seems to work
well with the version in the ubuntu repos, but the only way to test
other inkscape versions (newer that is) I would have to upgrade my whole
system, if I try to just install the deb package from newer ubuntu
versions I get dependency errors, so testing newer ones is practically
impossible.

can see there if all dependencies and versions are satisfiable.

@Alex Valavanis:
Sure, I can test ubuntu package if you can point me to it, can't seem to see

[Bug 373916] [NEW] Ubuntu 8.04 temporary freezes

2009-05-08 Thread Joe Giampaoli
Public bug reported:

Since Last Night on Thursday May 7 my ubuntu box has been experiencing
some random freezes, these happen very often (almost every 1-2 minutes).
Mouse and keyboard stop responding, causing a temporary hang that lasts
about 20-30 seconds then it all comes back. On my desktop I have conky
and I can see when everything freezes or when the culprit process comes
because I can see conky stopping then suddenly the mouse freezes about
10 seconds later without moving then it comes back to life. But this
happens every about 1 minute, as I'm writing this report it's happenning
a lot more often, almost every 20 seconds, I just continue typing,
because I know all the keystrokes will just pop out when it comes back
from the temporary hang.

I don't know if this is caused by a new upgrade in the last days, but
it's just driving me nuts. I upgraded kernel from 2.6.24-23 to 2.6.24-24
tried booting last kernel but still had same issues. Seems like an xorg
problem though.

In conky I can't see what is going on since it just freezes without
showing me the culprit, I also tried top command to see if that would
show me which or what was going on, nothing.

System specs:
Ubuntu 8.04 32 bit
AMD Athlon 64 3000+
1 GB RAM
Nvidia GeForce 6200 with propietary 180.51 driver
Compiz or desktop effects ARE DISABLED

[Bug 303894] Re: Sony Walkman NWZ-A816 not recognized so not mounted.

2009-02-01 Thread Joe Giampaoli
No, I never formated or repartitioned it. I will tell you one thing
though, I have tried this MP3 player with fresh install of Hardy and
never mounts, but that only happens I believe in 32 bit Hardy, I once
did a fresh install of Hardy 64 bit and tested the MP3 player and it did
automount.

Ok the output of sudo fdisk -l /dev/sdb is the following:

j...@ghubuntu:~$ sudo fdisk -l /dev/sdb
Note: sector size is 2048 (not 512)

Disk /dev/sdb: 3841 MB, 3841982464 bytes
1 heads, 62 sectors/track, 30257 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 62 * 2048 = 126976 bytes
Disk identifier: 0x

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sdb1 169273667 4294967294 ff BBT
Partition 1 does not end on cylinder boundary.
-

And yes i can mount it as /dev/sdb1 but only as root and the way I
described above:

sudo mount -t vfat -o iocharset=utf8,umask=,user /dev/sdb1 /media
/(mount-point)

If I just do sudo mount /dev/sdb1 it gives me

mount: can't find /dev/sdb1 in /etc/fstab or /etc/mtab

[Bug 298584] Re: Cannot activate Nvidia driver

2008-11-15 Thread Joe Giampaoli
ok, still you could also do it in a shell winth envy -t

that would be the "textual mode"

or like a said if you upgrade your kernel and gdm fails you just login
in text mode and run it.

good it worked out, since Hardy we are all using the new xorg.conf, it
stays very simple.

[Bug 298584] Re: Cannot activate Nvidia driver

2008-11-15 Thread Joe Giampaoli
Not that I'm aware of. I use Hardy at the moment, and activating the
drivers with the default ones found on the repos will be older than the
ones downloaded by the ENVY application created by Alberto Milone. It
even chooses from 3 different drivers automatically depending on your
Nvidia card. To get it make sure you enable universe an multiverse in
repos.

Then if you are in GNOME do:

sudo apt-get install envyng-gtk

or if in KDE:

sudo apt-get install envyng-qt

then run the application, should be in system tools or open a shell and
type sudo envyng-gtk or envyng-qt (depending which of both you
installed), when it opens up select Nvidia and make sure automatic
hardware selection is activated, let it do it's thing, will take about 3
minutes reboot and let's hope you've got Nvidia drivers up and running.
When you update your kernel you will have to do this again (every kernel
upgrade), so don't remove it.

the non graphical way of running envy is sudo envyng -t

It's good to know if for example you upgrade your kernel in a future and
system fails to boot in graphical mode.

Good Luck.

[Bug 287002] [NEW] Linux 2.6.24-21-rt random lockups

2008-10-21 Thread Joe Giampaoli
Public bug reported:

Since I upgraded to this kernel I've been experiencing random lockups
"out of the blue".

Sometimes I may be browsing and suddenly nothing responds, also happens
during in plain desktop, or when I log out and come back later when
monitor has gone to sleep, I move mouse and nothing responds.

Tried all combination of keys to unlock or reboot, which don't work.

All this obviously forcing me to hit that reboot switch on the box, this
happens very frequently, almost every 2-3 hrs.

[Bug 243330] [NEW] New xorg just doesn't work...

2008-06-26 Thread Joe Giampaoli
Public bug reported:

I'm really sorry to nag this, but the new xorg that is implemented in
Hardy is buggy as hell. I am really having a lot of issues with full
screen GL games and other appz. I really can't understand how an LTS
version could be published with so many new and experimental things, but
I will not get into that now, it's NOT MY DECISSION..

I only ask as a user (that is linux and ubuntu, meaning I have freedom
to configure my computer to the way I like and not being caged by forced
automated configurations) to please add an optional way or guide of
using an older xorg where we could tweak things manually like before
instead of having an automated xorg created. I have already seen people
in other discussion forums that are just not happy with this new xorg,
they are also having a lot of issues.

[Bug 202208] Re: [Hardy] Playing OpenGL games causes a refresh rate error

2008-06-25 Thread Joe Giampaoli
Same ISO you downloaded with first install? Can you please post some
installation steps like how did you enable hardware acceleration at
first after the clean install. Can you also post a copy of your
xorg.conf? Thank you.

2008-06-14 Thread Joe Giampaoli
What is the status of this bug? Has it been reviewed? Will there be a
fix soon? Is it being ignored?

I don't mean to cause pressure here but I don't seem to see any updates
in proposed for this yet.

[Bug 238057] [NEW] vbaexpress crashes sometimes

2008-06-06 Thread Joe Giampaoli
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: vbaexpress

When trying to save some game states vbaexpress freezes forcing user to
log off their account (Ctrl+Alt+Backspace), process remains running in
background idle. Sometimes, believe it or not, rebooting the machine,
will still load that idle process running in background taking memory.
For example my son was playing 2 days ago and had to log out his account
since the program locked on him trying to save a game state. I rebooted
machine yesterday and noticed RAM was not at 100% as usual, checked
system monitor and had two visual-boy-advance processes stuck in
background taking like 30 MB of memory each.

Thanks

[Bug 237694] [NEW] gnome-appearanc takes up all processor

2008-06-05 Thread Joe Giampaoli
Public bug reported:

When right clicking on desktop to change desktop background the
processor goes almost full way up (gnome-appearanc takes it all up) and
changing desktop backroung is almost impossible. Have to do multiple
clicking on image thumbnail from background image list for it to respond
and select it then it changes, doesn't seem to lock up computer, and
after closing it processor goes back to normal state.

Kernel 2.6.24-18-rt

[Bug 236234] [NEW] Noisy plugins when exporting

2008-05-30 Thread Joe Giampaoli
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: swh-plugins

swh-plugins_0.4.15-0.1ubuntu1_i386.deb in hardy are not working
properly, when exporting in ardour they create the exported sound file
with a vast array of noise. I removed them and tested with Feisty's swh-
plugins_0.4.14-1.1_i386.deb which I previously used with no problems
before upgrading to Hardy, and now also get this horrible noise with
exported files with those plugins. I got from debian the "latest stable"
swh-plugins_0.4.13-1_i386.deb and it all works well now. To test you can
create a track, add a multiband eq (Steve Harris) and when playing will
sound good, but when exported you will ge a noisy clip.

Thanks.

Same thing here, I also thought changing to pulseaudio in audacious
would fix it. Pulse audio sounds great, but when eq is enabled and start
tweaking sound drops almost 6 - 10 db
