Re: [Bug 730281] Screensaver time out causes logout

2011-08-15 Thread John Higby
I found out some things about this bug. I have Natty installed in
addition to Lucid. This bug only occurs in Lucid. I found that the
problem occurs only when I load the Network Manager applet during
startup. If I do not load this applet during startup there is no
problem. I can load it after startup and there is no logout issue. So it
would seem that this bug may have in fact been fixed in Natty.

Scratch that last transmission. I got my bugs mixed up with a problem I
have in Lucid. This is a bug in Natty so I will follow your instructions
and see if I can duplicate this bug in Oneiric

[Bug 730281] [NEW] Screensaver time out causes logout

2011-03-06 Thread John Higby
Public bug reported:

I am set-up with a dual boot of 10.04 and 10.10. When I am in a 10.10
session and the screen-saver times out, the system logs out back to the
login screen. When I log back in everything I was working on is gone. If
I turn off the screen-saver, the system will stay logged in.

I never see this issue when in a 10.04 session.

Find attached backtrace

In order to help us narrow down the causes of this bug, could you please
run a backtrace for us? To do so, you will first need to install the
firefox-dbg, libgtk2.0-0-dbg, and gdb packages. After you do so, run the
following commands in a terminal in the given order:

 firefox -g 21 | tee ~/Firefox_backtrace.txt
[You will then see (gdb), enter the following commands after that]
 run
[Firefox will open, please reproduce the crash]
 bt full
 thread apply all backtrace full
 quit

This will produce a Firefox_backtrace.txt file in your /home directory.
You can then attach that file to this report. Thanks in advance!

[Bug 596347] Latest Development

2010-06-24 Thread John Higby
Since the results of backtrace did not seem to produce any information,
I did a little research and found out that the Firefox 3.6.4 includes a
new feature which will allow plugins and add-ons to run as separate
proceses from firefox.bin and as such allow these processes to crash
without taking down Firefox. I went to the ubuntu-mozill-security/ppa
and updated from 3.6.3o 3.6.4. Several other things were upgraded in the
process including Thunderbird to 3.0.5. So far, I have not been able to
crash 3.6.4 Hope this helps.

The upgrade was completed in terminal with this code:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-mozilla-security/ppa \
sudo apt-get update \
sudo apt-get upgrade

Re: [Bug 596347] Re: Firefox 3.8.3 crashes on some UTube pages

2010-06-22 Thread John Higby
Drew,

I checked the /var/crash folder and there were no files in there. I
enable Apport again and crashed Firefox and still no files in the
folder. I checked and Terminal says Apport is running. I did a search
for coredump.gz and no joy on that either.

Please advise,
John

Since you have crashed several times there should be multiple files in
there. I appreciate your enthusiasm to get this problem fixed but the
errors you see in the terminal aren't what we need to debug this
problem. We need a bugreport with a coredump.gz file attached. You may
find it helpful to read https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Apport

The program 'firefox-bin' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)'.

backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error()
function.)

2010-05-25 Thread John Higby
Hi,
Please see the attached screen shoots. Notice that the file saved in the
Excel 97/2000/XP format shows the entries pushed up against the top of
the cell while the entries when saved in the Excel 95 or ODS format are
centered in the cell. You can zoom in to get a close look at this. Also
attached are this file saved in all three formats. Hope this helps...

Thanks,
John

I am not sure what you mean. It is adjusting the row height for some XLS
and ODS files but not all? If so perhaps those files do not need
adjustment? Can you attach an example of each type of file as you
 mentioned in the bug report?

 Thanks,

 Chris

Public bug reported:

I notice that when I open a file in the saved in the (ODS) or older
(XLS) formats, I see notice at the bottom of the page with a status bar
that says Adapt Row Height. I do not see this message or status bar
when I open a file saved in the Microsoft Excel 97/2000/XP (XLT) format.
It would appear the the Adapt Row Height function is missing when
saving in this format.

I am running a clean install of Lucid 10.04 using a CD that was mailed
to me by Ubuntu. All updates are installed as of today. Open Office
