[Bug 562005] Re: Backlight controls of laptops with NVIDIA NVS and Quadro FX 880M GPUs no longer function while using proprietary drivers
Delyan, Thank you for your help! I forgot to mention that I used to do that in Lucid before the xorg.conf workaround. Sadly that doesn't seem to help in Maverick. I wonder if downgrading to an older version of nvidia drivers would help. -- Backlight controls of laptops with NVIDIA NVS and Quadro FX 880M GPUs no longer function while using proprietary drivers https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/562005 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 562005] Re: Backlight controls of laptops with NVIDIA NVS and Quadro FX 880M GPUs no longer function while using proprietary drivers
I just did a fresh install of Maverick 64-bit on my HP EliteBook 8440p with NVS 3100m graphics. I still had to use nomodeset to install and to boot thereafter, but that's not an issue. After installing the nVidia proprietary drivers, I found that whenever my notebook tries to power its screen off, it gets stuck as black and has to be restarted to fix. The computer is still responsive, since I can ctrl-alt-del, enter, tab, enter to poweroff. I have tried adding the [Option RegistryDwords EnableBrightnessControl=1] line to the device section of my xorg.conf and rebooting, just as I did in Lucid. Unlike in Lucid, this did not resolve my issue. My nvidia driver version is 260.19.06-0ubuntu1. Could anyone please suggest any workarounds I could try? I can suspend just fine, but I often like to shut my screen and let my notebook continue working. [Bug 558674] Re: Open file dialog malfunctions in lucid
I also recommend increasing the importance on this bug. I have been experiencing this problem for at least two months, on several computers running Ubuntu 10.04. At best, it's an inconvenience, having to try to pick the file correctly several times. At worst, it could lead to serious privacy concerns. I get the same behavior trying to boot to Lucid 64-bit live CD on my HP EliteBook 8440p with nvidia NVS 3100M graphics. I was able to use the nomodeset to install and on first boot until I installed the proprietary nvidia drivers. The other problems I run into are: -I cannot adjust the brightness - it is all or nothing. (Bug #562005) -Whenever I close my screen without suspending (just turns the screen off), I have to switch to a VT and back to turn my screen back on. (probably related to the previous problem) I suspect my remaining problems can be attributed to problems with the proprietary drivers. -- luicid RC1 live cd boots to blank screen on Dell latitude E6410 with Nvidia Nvs 3100M https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/570269 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description didn't include enough information. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at [WWW] http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures At a minimum, we need: 1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem, 2. the behavior you expected, and 3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). [Bug 250203] Re: The Menu capture all the keyboard buttons
Thank you for taking the time to report the problems you've experienced and helping to improve Ubuntu. Multimedia keys are set up globally, not per program. See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MultimediaKeys for information regarding this. If your multimedia keys are correctly configured and you are having trouble with them in a specific program, such as Rhythmbox, please file a bug report with details about the hardware you are using and which programs they do and do not work in. Also, in the future, please remember to file one bug per separate problem. They are much more manageable when they are filed individually. As for the menu problem, simply click outside the menu or hit the Escape key to leave the menu, then switch to the program that you need. As for changing the way this works, we appreciate your suggestion. However, the changes you are requesting aren't really a bug and require more discussion, which should be done on an appropriate mailing list or forum. http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community/mailinglists might be a good start for determining which mailing list to use. ** Changed in: gnome-panel (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid ** bug changed to question: https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-panel/+question/39801 -- The Menu capture all the keyboard buttons https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/250203 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thank you for taking the time to report the problem you experienced and for helping to improve Ubuntu. Could you please provide more details as to what happens when you run Firefox? Also, you mentioned the latest kernel, which leads me to think that you recently changed your kernel. The current kernel for Hardy is 2.6.24-19-generic. You reported that you are running 2.6.22-14-generic (sounds like you may have upgraded from a previous version of Ubuntu). If there is a problem with your kernel, you could most likely remedy it by opening a terminal and running this command: sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install linux-image-generic Then reboot and make sure to choose the latest kernel from your boot menu (it should be the default). ** Changed in: firefox-3.0 (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- firefox under Ubuntu does not work with latest kernel https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/250199 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 236307 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/236307 The end result is the same as bug 241847, but the steps to get the result are different. This bug is about a problem installing Ubuntu with Wubi. Bug 241847 is about a problem after a successful installation and installing updates. My next thought was that perhaps this was a problem with the packages included on 8.04.1 (which I was using). The bug was originally reported on 6/21 and the 8.04.1 release date was 7/3, so it was reported with both releases. This particular issue has nothing to do with updates. [Bug 245383] [NEW] [intrepid] Screen flickers when loading applications
Public bug reported: I'm using a NVidia GeForce 8600GT video card and experience problems when using the nv and nouveau xorg drivers. When I use the vesa driver, the problem is not present. During login and whenever an application is launched my entire screen flashes black repeatedly. I have been unable to test the proprietary driver against this problem: the nvidia-glx-new driver module fails to load and the official installer file refuses to run (says the kernel is incompatible due to having Xen support). I had none of these problems in Hardy (tested nv and nvidia drivers). ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: intrepid nouveau nv nvidia -- [intrepid] Screen flickers when loading applications https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/245383 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
