Any other information?

Does the same happen in other media players such as mplayer? What codecs

"totem --debug > totem.log" and post the file totem.log after you have
repeated the problem.

[Bug 296451] Re: gnome-power-manager needs several minutes to load at startup

2009-02-01 Thread Jonas
I can confirm this on a AOA 110 with Xubuntu 8.10. The workaround works
fine. I noticed a large rectangle shaped box about 3 by 5 cm (h x w)
that freezes a few seconds after the power cord is disconnected and also
when its connected. It stays for a few minutes. The box keeps displaying
whatever was displayed when it froze.

I am not running the standard kernel but instead Array's 2.6.27-8-eeepc.

[Bug 323570] Re: can't play avi video Movie player closes

2009-02-01 Thread Jonas
Don't change the distro please until this issue is solved. Otherwise we
won't know what's causing it.

Any bug messages? (Run totem by: "totem --debug > totem.log" and post
the result after totem has crashed.)

This problem doesn't seem to be related to totem since "mplayer simply
disappears" for you as well. It seems as if the codecs could cause this
rather than totem and mplayer. Is it the same with VLC as well?

If so I would start by purging all totem packages, mplayer packages and
w32codecs and try reinstalling them.

[Bug 377006] [NEW] Invalid root UUID during server upgrade from 8.10 -> 9.04

2009-05-15 Thread Jonas
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: update-manager-core

Culprit package: update-manager-core
Culprit command: do-release-upgrade
Breaks package: grub
Impact: System not bootable / complete system failure upon reboot

Summary:
When performing the upgrade from Ubuntu Server 8.10 to 9.04 the generated
menu.lst is invalid with regards to the root UUID kernel parameter.

Context:
My system is an Intel Mac Mini with an internal SATA disk and an external USB
disk connected.
I've got the three traditional partitions boot (ext3), root (ext3) and swap on
the internal disk and one ext3 partition wrapped in a volume group on the
external USB drive.

My device to UUID mapping looks like the following before and after the
upgrade

UUID = ff929bbd-ec9b-4afc-b64a-0839fcb67be6(sda1 => /boot)
UUID = 9d9559fe-75e8-49ab-a684-5744d77984a4 (sda2 => /)
UUID = 92cf9ba6-edcb-4f10-b017-6b5e7f9111ff (sda3 => swap)

Problem:
During the execution of do-release-upgrade the value for the root property in
the menu.lst entries get assigned the UUID value
d476b48f-bb64-4fb5-a596-9eb7aa9c30af for some odd reason. I do not have such a
device listed in /dev/disk/by-uuid/ and must conclude that there is a bug in
the tool which causes it to generate this seemingly random number.

Workaround:
Before being asked to reboot, restore the original UUIDs to the root parameter
by replacing the invalid ones generated.
For me, the UUID for the boot partition was correctly identified by the update
program which meant at least I didn't have to fix that piece in menu.lst.
Others may not be so lucky so to make certain, also check the boot partition
UUID.

The easiest way is to delete menu.lst file generated by the upgrade
program and then run update-grub to generate a new menu.lst file. This
generated file *has correct UUIDs* !.

A variant for those who have customized their grub files is naturally to
do a copy-paste excercise of the new list entry for the updated kernel
into their old file and then to fix the root UUID by making sure its the
same as the corresponding value in their Ubuntu 8.10 version of the
menu.lst.

[Bug 377006] Re: Invalid root UUID during server upgrade from 8.10 -> 9.04

2009-06-29 Thread Jonas
Yesterday I did a kernel update via the Ubuntu apt repository from
kernel 2.6.28-11 to 2.6.28-13 on two different machines and the same
problem occurred.

The update process created invalid UUIDs for my root partitions on both
machines, rendering both systems unbootable.

Having had to spend three hours on a Sunday evening (an hour's drive to
the data center to get at a console) wasn't exactly what I had planned
for my Sunday evening :-/

Please let me know if you need any additional information from me in
order to find the root cause, since the impact of this bug is extremely
severe and needs to be addressed.

2009-08-01 Thread Jonas
Jamie, why hasn't the patch you linked to @ #5 been applied yet to the Jaunty
kernel?
It applies as linked hunked with 104 line offset which should make applying it
to the main line kernel a 5 minute job.
I'd wager it's taken you longer to change the status of this ticket back and
fort:)

What's the hold up? Any status update would be greatly appreciated.

Did a search on linux-restricted-modules-2.6.28-13-generic (in synaptic)
and it did not show up

but I see the files on the mirror:

I changed from mirror to main server and then it worked.

[Bug 74947] missing path in /etc/acpi/suspend.d/nn-down-interfaces.sh

2006-12-08 Thread Jonas
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: acpi-support

After suspend the network interfaces won't get automatically upped
again. This gets corrected by changing "ifup" and "ifdown" to
"/sbin/ifdown" and "/sbin/ifup" in the files /etc/acpi/suspend.d/NN-
down-interfaces.sh and /etc/acpi/resume.d/NN-ifup.sh.

Corrected /etc/acpi/suspend.d/55-down-interfaces.sh :
#!/bin/sh

pccardctl eject

# Get rid of any currently running dhclients
killall dhclient dhclient3 2>/dev/null

# Find the currently running network interfaces...
INTERFACES=`/sbin/ifconfig | awk '/^[^ ]+/ {print $1}'`

# And shut them down
for x in $INTERFACES; do
/sbin/ifdown $x;
/sbin/ifconfig $x down;
done

And a corrected /etc/acpi/resume.d/62-ifup.sh :
#!/bin/sh

# Bring up the interfaces (this should probably be left up to some policy
# manager, but at the moment we just bring back whatever we ifdowned)
for x in $INTERFACES; do
/sbin/ifup $x &
done

Re: [Bug 301892] Re: usb audio Audio Kontrol 1 crashes xserver bad - hal, evdev issue on Intrepid?

2008-12-05 Thread Jonas
Hello,

I am new to "all of this" (Launchpad, ubuntustudio, bug reporting), so I'm
not sure I'm sending this mail to the right people/person. I'm sending it to
<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>.
My reasons are as follows.
I recently installed Ubuntustudio 8.10 and had some trouble, not sure if
studio makes any difference the problem seem similar,
I have gotten the card(Audio Kontrol 1) to play sound via PulseAudio, but x
crashes both (seemingly) randomly and whenever I rotate the knob on the
Audio Kontrol 1 unit.
When the knob is rotated an "f" is printed on the uper left of the screen,
then login eventually (usually but not always) return.

If I can help, please let me know by providing beginner friendly
instructions.

I sending this mail with hopes of once again experiencing my Audio Kontrol 1
- AKG K 702 combo*.
*I don't use it to simply listen to music, I use it to *enjoy* music. ;)

Happy bug solving!

Jonas

[Bug 113552] Re: SD card is spontaneously unmounted when files are copied to it

2008-11-29 Thread Jonas
Problem still exist. I tested on Ubuntu 8.10 with Nokia 6233. USB data storage
does not appear in drive list. I can see that kernel try to mount, phone
displays that it is transferring data, but it stays like that all the time.

...
Before phone software was updated everything was fine. After update this
problem started to happen. On windows everything is fine even after update. I
can connect phone and manage files on the phone as if it was before update. It
is possible that problem is in the phone and linux kernel is sensitive to that
bug and windows is not.

[Bug 159552] [gutsy] econtact conduit puts phone numbers in incorrect field

2007-11-02 Thread Jonas
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-pilot-conduits

This bug is reproducible on the current version of evolution
(2.12.0-ubuntu5), with the current version of gnome pilot
(2.0.15-2ubuntu2) and a palm treo 600.

When syncing from evolution to a newly wiped treo, contacts in evolution
that have "Business Phone" are moved across to the palm as both a "work"
number and also as an "other" number. This creates problems because on
the next sync, the numbers get moved back, duplicating numbers for every
contact with a business phone. In a large address book, this can create
tens of hours of work to clean up after.

2007-11-10 Thread Jonas
I seem to have the same problem after upgrading from 7.04 to 7.10. Seems like
we got the same audiocontroller.

[Bug 159935] Re: After installing Ubuntu 7.10 there is no sound

2007-11-10 Thread Jonas
For me the problem seems to be that the default kernel is 2.6.22-14-386
while the module for sound snd-hda-intel.ko is only installed for
2.6.22-14-generic. If I reboot and select the generic kernel instead of
the -386 I get sound.

[Bug 131363] Re: thttpd: broken logging

2007-08-20 Thread Jonas
A brute force workaround that seems to work for me is to replace
everything in the postrotate clause in /etc/logrotate.d/thttpd with
this:

/usr/bin/killall thttpd
/etc/init.d/thttpd restart

The result is:

/var/log/thttpd.log {
rotate 14
daily
compress
missingok
delaycompress
postrotate
/usr/bin/killall thttpd
/etc/init.d/thttpd restart
endscript
}

[Bug 131363] thttpd: broken logging

2007-08-09 Thread Jonas
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: thttpd

I installed ubuntu 7.04 server and added thttpd using apt-get. At first
all seemed fine, webpages were served and entries were added to the
logfile. However after a few days I noticed that the logfile
/var/log/thttpd were empty. It seems like thttpd is not able to handle
the transition when the logfile is rotated and stop writing or begin
writing to something like /dev/null.

** Affects: thttpd (Ubuntu)

[Bug 201705] [NEW] Hardy hangs while starting sys log daemon, X server constantly restarts after sys log daemon timeout

2008-03-12 Thread Jonas
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 201673 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/201673

Public bug reported:

A few hours ago I upgraded from Gutsy to Hardy Alpha 6. Everything went
fine, including reboots, until I applied a bunch of updates roughly have
an hour ago. One of them failed during the post-processing step (can't
remember its name unfortunately). Ever since that update the system
hangs during startup when it is trying to start the system log daemon.
After a timeout (of about 4 minutes) the system continues to boot and
tries to bring up the display server. The display server then crashes
repeatetly until a warning message appears that the display server has
been shut down more than 6 times in 90 seconds. Switching to a terminal
and logging in results in the following:

malloc: ../bash/subst.c:3472: assertion botched
free: called with unallocated block argument
Aborting...

After which I am presented with the login prompt again. Booting with the
old Gutsy kernel does not help, neither does starting in recovery mode.
It is hard to give more specific error information since I cannot even
log in.

[Bug 247910] [NEW] [users-admin] show UID below 1000

2008-07-12 Thread jonas
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-system-tools

it would be nice with an option to show users with UIDs below 1000. I
know there is an option to "show all users", but that is not ideal since
it includes system accounts. Since mac os x starts their users at 501 I
have a few ubuntu machines set up with with UIDs starting at 501 (since
that is needed for the NFS mounts to work nicely). I'd still want the
ubuntu users to be able to change their password, displayed name etc.
Hence I'd like a gconf setting (or something smarter) were I define what
UIDs should be displayed. Perhaps there is a better way to define "user
accounts" vs system accounts? If there is a home dir then it is a user
account? Thanks!

[Bug 113075] Re: Keyboard layout confusion

2007-05-31 Thread Jonas
Layout group item should be just for expanding layout list (like file
folder). Layouts in that group should be selectable. In general should
be like file selection dialog box. If it is file selection dialog box
user cannot select directory.

My friend also called me on the phone telling that there is no
Lithuanian keyboard layout. I had to explain him that group of layouts
is also layout :)

Thank you for your great job!

[Bug 113071] Video players do not work on second sound card

2007-05-07 Thread Jonas
Public bug reported:

I have two sound cards one is integrated to motherboard (VIA) I am using it for
skype. Second is soundblaster live that i am using for music and video.
In sound preferences I am selecting Multichanel playback for Music and Movies
(during test it plays on SB Live). Rhythm box plays on SB Live but all video
players still plays on integrated sound card. Please fix it, it just makes
impossible to use two sound cards.

Thank you!

[Bug 113075] Keyboard layout confusion

2007-05-07 Thread Jonas
Public bug reported:

I spent all evening till I figured out that layout group is also layout
:) (like this one: "Lithuania") These selectable layout groups are very
misleading. I am talking about window "Choose a layout" that opens when
user wants to add layout.

[Bug 224539] Re: Failed to lock /var/cache/apt/archives/lock

2008-04-30 Thread Jonas
After I canceled download I restarted coputer so nothing should work in
background. I removed file from /var/cache/apt/archives/partial
directory and everything was ok. So I guess problem was in unfinished
package.

[Bug 224606] Re: ubuntu freezes when hitting backspace or tab

2008-05-01 Thread Jonas
I actually have the same problem. Ubuntu and Debian are freezing hitting TAB or
BACKSPACE.
According to the kernel differences I'm trying to find the last working kernel
to locate the problem.
I'll post the results here.
