I develop and distribute a proprietary application that works with AMR
encoded streams. Since Ubuntu 22.04 we've been able to distribute this on
top of the regular Ubuntu GStreamer packages.

Without having this plugin in the Ubuntu package I'll need to go back to
distributing an alternative GStreamer build along with our application.
It's a minor nuisance, but we were already doing that earlier when we
required a newer GStreamer than Ubuntu provided (with Ubuntu 20.04).

It's a regression that these plugins have just disappeared... but I'm not
quite sure what the best solution would be here:
i) Provide a second gstreamer-plugins-good-universe package that lives in
universe but built from the -good repository.
ii) Repackage these plugins as a separate package...

or...

iii) Just drop these plugins altogether (like you've done) because they're
probably barely used by anyone... they're pretty specialized.

Thanks,
Jonas

[Bug 2063851] [NEW] libgstamrnb.so missing from gstreamer-plugins-good

2024-04-26 Thread Jonas Bonn
Public bug reported:

This file used to come from the -ugly gstreamer plugins package:
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/gstreamer-1.0/libgstamrnb.so

This plugin has been moved to the -good set in version 1.22 (upstream
gstreamer commit 83026f62890b97904f3da0138456680eac3e0cef).
Unfortunately the plugin appears to be missing from the Ubuntu "noble"
package... presumably missing a buildtime option to have it built.

[Bug 1163764] [NEW] BrowseAllow required in cups-browsed.conf for CUPS browsing

2013-04-03 Thread Jonas Bonn
Public bug reported:

Without the BrowseAllow option being set, the message "browse packaget
from IPADDR disallowed" is displayed for every received packet. That
this option needs to be set should be documented somewhere and an
example of how to set it needs to be provided.

Even better, I think, would be to allow _all_ by default... not totally
sure if this is kosher, but it seems a sane default given that DNSSD
essentially does this, too.

2010-08-18 Thread Jonas Bonn
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: initramfs-tools

Bringing up initramfs busybox shell and executing following command
causes an infinite loop:

cat /proc/meminfo  | grep MemTotal | grep -o "[0-9]*"

Suggests? I don't know about this... one of the strongest arguments we
have for Ubuntu is ease of use. This argument fails pretty badly for

But of course, if it's not in main then there's not one much one can
do...

So it seems we need to add a usb-modeswitch rule instead of a modem-
modeswitch rule... doesn't seem like a big deal. Would somebody who has
this hardware see if they can effect the mode switch using the usb-

[Bug 532597] [NEW] Add option to make chatroom "always urgent"

2010-03-05 Thread Jonas Bonn
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

Add option to make chatroom "always urgent"

Often a user wants to be immediately notified of posts to a chatroom even when
the post does not address them directly by name. This patch adds a room
option to make all posts to the room "urgent", meaning that the
system-specific
urgency action should be taken -- notification, window urgency hint, etc.

Two specific use cases for when one may want this:

i) Low-traffic rooms (so that one does not have to go check the room all
the
time)
ii) Error-logging room (room to which errors from some other system(s) are
logged)

The "always urgent" option is off by default when joining a room.

Reopening bug:

[Bug 346424] [NEW] Add bo-tcrc input method in 1.5.3

2009-03-21 Thread Jonas Bonn
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: m17n-db

Could you please squeeze the attached input method into the m17n-db
package for Jaunty?

This input method is the TCRC Tibetan input method. It is the most
familiar input method to Tibetans living outside of Tibet (i.e. India
and abroad).

The input method file is taken from version 1.5.4 of m17n-db, so it will
automatically be included in the next release... unfortunately, that
will be too late for Jaunty, and I would really like to get this input
method included now in order to simplify the process of getting the
GNOME/Ubuntu Tibetan translation process going. For the last couple of
releases we have been hand-installing this file, so it is well tested;
it would really nice if this could be automatic in Jaunty.

If it sounds like I'm begging, I am...

[Bug 346363] [NEW] Crashes when LANG not set in /etc/default/locale

2009-03-21 Thread Jonas Bonn
Public bug reported:

gnome-language-selector crashes if LANG is not set in either
/etc/default/locale or /etc/environment.

The error message is:

line 59, in getMissingLangPacks
if "_" in default_lang:
TypeError: argument of type 'NoneType' is not iterable

where lines 57-60 of /usr/lib/python2.6/dist-
packages/LanguageSelector/LanguageSelector.py read:

57:# now check for a missing default language support
58:default_lang = self.getSystemDefaultLanguage()
59:if "_" in default_lang:
60:default_lang = default_lang.split("_")[0]

and getSystemDefaultLanguage reads:

def getSystemDefaultLanguage(self):
conffiles = ["/etc/default/locale", "/etc/environment"]
for fname in conffiles:
if os.path.exists(fname):
for line in open(fname):
match = re.match(r'LANG="(.*)"$',line)
if match:
if "." in match.group(1):
return match.group(1).split(".")[0]
else:
return match.group(1)
return None

Because of the way this function is used, it MAY NOT return None. It
should instead return a graceful default: presumably, it should return
what is currently returned by the command 'locale' if it is not the C
locale, or some graceful default value like en_US.UTF-8.

[Bug 299642] Re: Microphone Capture ALWAYS muted

2009-03-20 Thread Jonas Bonn
The problem is specifically with the gnome-volume-control applet which always
shows all recording channels as muted, irregardless of their actual status.
The applet works, however, in that it does change the state of the channels.
alsamixer shows the real state, and alsamixer also reflects changes to the
mute-state of the channels performed via the gnome-volume-control.

Without a desktop environment, alsamixer works and shows the channels
unmuted.

I believe something has changed, however, recently as I previously was
unable to unmute the channels at all. This is vague, but all I've got
right now... sorry.

[Bug 85145] run-init crashes when root is unionfs on nfs

2007-02-14 Thread Jonas Bonn
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: initramfs-tools

In initramfs-tools/scripts/nfs-bottom we use a custom script to set up a
unionfs over an NFS mount in order to get a writeable, shared base
system. When this script is included in our initramfs, then run-init
(at the end of the initramfs init script) causes a kernel oops...

1) We used this method with Dapper and it worked perfectly.

2) With Feisty, we get the oops.

The script to mount the unionfs over NFS root looks like this:

---
#!/bin/sh

PREREQ=""
DESCRIPTION="Setting up volatile unionfs over read-only root..."

. /scripts/functions

prereqs()
{
   echo "$PREREQ"
}

case $1 in
# get pre-requisites
prereqs)
   prereqs
   exit 0
   ;;
esac

log_begin_msg "$DESCRIPTION"

mkdir -p /cow
mount -n -t tmpfs tmpfs /cow
mount -n -t unionfs -o dirs=/cow=rw:${rootmnt}=nfsro unionfs "${rootmnt}"

. /tmp/net-eth0.conf
cat > ${rootmnt}/etc/resolv.conf << EOF
search $DNSDOMAIN
nameserver $IPV4DNS0
EOF

log_end_msg
---

If I comment out the line with the unionfs mount, then everything works
fine.

Steps to reproduce:

1) Add the above script to /usr/share/initramfs/scripts/nfs-bottom
2)  Update your initramfs (update-initramfs -u)
3) Boot with the initramfs over NFS.

Oops when run-init is called...
