[Bug 1101974] Re: openscad version has bugs re: exporting STL

2013-01-19 Thread Josh Adams
Err, that wasn't clear enough perhaps. The problem is that the
resulting STL should look like it looks in the opencad preview, but it
doesn't have the "difference" operation applied. The exported STL is
just incorrect. If you compare the openscad file in preview with an STL
viewer looking at the resulting file, you'll see what I'm talking about.

I'd include a screenshot of the problem but I've already replaced this
package with a copy of openscad built from source.

[Bug 1101974] [NEW] openscad version has bugs re: exporting STL

2013-01-19 Thread Josh Adams
Public bug reported:

The attached openscad file exports to STL with only a single
"union/intersection/difference" operation applied. This was confirmed
on two different openscad models. Building the openscad 2013.01.19 from
source and using that on the same input files produced correct STL.

This was from a raring ringtail machine.

I see this exact same behaviour in karmic. I know it also affects at
least one other karmic user (arvind_khadri from IRC).

[Bug 86670] Re: Flurry of password requests make evolution unusable with down email server

2008-07-24 Thread Josh Adams
I can't figure out from reading the bug why it was closed. I don't see
where information that was requested wasn't provided. At any rate, this
shouldn't be a low importance bug - for people it happens to, and I know
it's at least 80% of the people I personally know who run ubuntu, it's a
major annoyance. It's not only a problem with evolution - thunderbird
will do the same thing for the same IMAP providers. Still, the fact
that GMail users (along with many other IMAP services) cannot reliably
use evolution for their mail is of greater importance than I see given
to it.

What information do you need? This bug's plagued me for 2+ years and
makes the linux desktop experience suck much more than it needs to. I'm
open source all the way, but it's embarrassing for people to see this on
my otherwise awesome machines.

[Bug 70599] Re: Laptop overheating in Edgy

2006-11-07 Thread Josh Adams
ACPI's a go. Got a good load of the DSDT.aml file.

I'll consider the issue resolved for now. If it causes problems again,
I'll resurface. I'm very grateful for the help getting ACPI working,
either way. I should be able to suspend and whatnot now, which was a
major thorn in my side.

[Bug 70599] Re: Laptop overheating in Edgy

2006-11-07 Thread Josh Adams
I've followed the instructions and didn't brick the laptop, so that's
good. I can't tell if there's a difference, but I know it did hit 80
once. It's idling at around 67 right now, which is much more
acceptable. It might not have worked, though. More info below.

The site mentioned copying DSDT.aml to /etc/mkinitramfs/DSDT.aml. My
output file was dsdt.aml (case-difference), but I upcased it when
copying it over. I of course replaced his kernel version with my own.

A point of interest in my dmesg is:

I did 'echo /var/log/messages|grep ACPI' and got nothing. I figured
something would be there, and I looked at this page:

http://crippledcanary.se/?page_id=9

And he had something in his messages. Could this be sufficient to show it's
not that problem?

[Bug 70599] Re: Laptop overheating in Edgy

2006-11-06 Thread Josh Adams
I've installed sensors-applet. I've got two CPU sensors - one is
reading ~64 at idle, the other ranges between 61-63. I /do/ feel that
the fan should be kicking this down - it doesn't sound active at all
yet. And when it starts up, it really starts screaming.

As for the 80C comment, my kernel shuts down at 75 I think. Where is
this logic, by the way? I feel there's a file somewhere that I could
edit to kick the fan on at high speed earlier, but I have no idea what
that might be.

Could the NVIDIA beta drivers be causing this? I've installed them
almost immediately every time I've installed Edgy.

Where would I set acpi=off?

Finally, here's the dmesg output.

Hopefully this is somewhat useful:

[Bug 70599] Laptop overheating in Edgy

2006-11-06 Thread Josh Adams
Public bug reported:

I've got a Gateway m500. I've run Breezy, Dapper on it in the past (its
entire lifetime it hasn't booted windows) without problems.

Upon installing Edgy (I've done multiple installs, too) it began to
overheat. ACPI is running, and I've switched from powernowd to whatever
the Ubuntu Guide recommended (I started out filing this bug on the
laptop, where I could have reported what I was using. It overheated
halfway through the bug report). I also briefly installed cpudyn, but
it wouldn't boot (I think it doesn't work in 2.6?) so I dropped into a
recovery prompt and stopped using that.

Anyway, I've seen reports that other laptops overheat on CPU intensive
operations (compiling, etc). Mine overheats in firefox. Mine overheats
running nothing when I'm not there.

Note: It could have been overheating from time to time in Dapper - it
used to shut down when I wasn't around, but usually it was ok. I used
to even drop it into the bag while running to take it short distances,
and it wouldn't overheat. It's far more prevalent in Edgy.

I can't really function with the laptop in this state. I'll do whatever
I can to help gather info on the bug - I have a readily reproducible
problem.

Oh yeah, and it shuts down and says something about critical temperature
reached at around 75C.

The fan will turn on full speed when it gets hot, but it seems like
maybe the fan should spin up a bit more frequently than it does - it
only seems to kick on once it's almost past the point of no return.
Sometimes it saves it, sometimes the fan runs right until kernel shuts
me down. At any rate, the laptop gets far too hot for its own good.

** Affects: Ubuntu
