[Bug 23660] Re: [network-admin] 'Enable this connection' option in network settings is redundant

2007-04-24 Thread JoshuaPurcell
I would think the post above this (by Pascal) is a different bug, and
one that I'm experiencing at the moment. I am using NetworkManager to
automatically grab an IP address through DHCP for 99% of the network
connectivity I need. Occasionally I'll need a static IP and that's when
I'll open up network-admin, select properties of my wired connection and
click the box to 'Enable this connection' (in other words get network-
admin to handle the configuration.

The problem happens when I'm finished with the static IP and I want
NetworkManager to control the interface... network-admin will not stop
controlling the interface since this check box labeled "Enable this
Connection' will not go unchecked after being checked. The only solution
is to manually edit /etc/network/interfaces to take out all lines
relating to eth0, then kill and restart the NetworkManger process.

The best solution may very will be to add static IP address
configuration functionality to NetworkManger (and not use network-admin
at all), but another possiblity is to just fix the problem with the
network-admin checkbox and continue to use two applications to do one
job.

[Bug 754334] Re: unity launcher does not retain netbeans application

2012-04-12 Thread JoshuaPurcell
I think this bug is the same problem I have with adding my eclipse start
script to the launcher. I have eclipse extracted in a local home folder,
and I created a simple bash script which just goes to that directory
(via 'cd') and runs the executable. Running this from any console works
(I've added the script's location to my PATH), and when the app
initially shows up in my launcher it soon changes/switches to another
launcher and the initial one disappears. Permanently adding either of
these two launcher entries to the bar works, but neither functions as
expected (actually starting up the application).

I don't think this problem is specific to Netbeans or any other
application: the basic problem is we have no documentation on Unity that
allows us to create custom launchers. Even the sparse documentation I've
found in various threads online points to looking at the
~/.local/share/applications or /usr/local/share/applications folders in
order to copy already existing .desktop files. Neither of these
locations exist. The location /usr/share/applications contains .desktop
files, but these look to be the default files that each application
installs and are not the actual files related to the launchers actually
on my system.

Where are the files related to the unity launchers?

I'm currently running the latest kernel version 3.8.0-030800rc7-generic
as you suggested Joseph. I will continue to test for a couple of days
since the issue happens sporadically... I'll post any updates soon. So
far all is good:

Changing status to confirmed and adding the tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'

the issue... no issues showed up after numerous tests.

[Bug 42467] Re: [Dapper LiveCD Beta2] conky flickers

2006-09-27 Thread JoshuaPurcell
I would assume this bug's status should be "In Progress" since we know what
causes the problem (not including the dbe module in /etc/X11/xorg.conf by
default), and adding the module manually solves the problem in all known cases.
Now all that is needed is for someone to decide what happens next (I'm not the
one to do any of these things listed below, and I don't know who that person
is):
1.the conky man page needs to be updated with information on manually adding
this module to /etc/X11/xorg.conf
2.the conky install does this automatically
3.someone with xorg decides that this module should be added automatically
during their initial configuration.

[Bug 90284] /etc/skel files not copied to home directory during install

2007-03-06 Thread JoshuaPurcell
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: adduser

After doing a new installation of Feisty herd 5 64bit from the alternate
CD, I see that no files found in /etc/skel have been copied to the
default user's home directory. I chose to create during installation.
Running the 'useradd -m' and/or 'adduser' commands after the
installation both create the directory and copy the need skeleton files
over successfully for another new user. It's unlikely this matters in
reproducing the problem, but my home directory is located on another
partition other than where / is.

[Bug 90284] Same Issue on Edgy

2007-03-08 Thread JoshuaPurcell
I just did a new install of Edgy 32bit from the alternate CD, and the
exact same thing happens (where files/folders from /etc/skel do not get
copied to the user's directory). I did the install on another system,
but my partitions are setup similarly to the first system. I have a 50MB
/boot partition, and the rest is dedicated to a volume group (ubuntuVG)
with three logical volumes (swapLV is swap, homeLV is /home/joshua, and
ubuntuLV is /). Let me know if any other information is needed for this
to be confirmed by another person.

[Bug 200500] Re: WLAN loosing connection: No ProbeResp

2008-04-27 Thread JoshuaPurcell
I'm having the same issue. Here's uname -a:
Linux laptop 2.6.22-14-generic #1 SMP Tue Feb 12 02:46:46 UTC 2008 x86_64
GNU/Linux

Attached is the output from lspci -vvnn. Also I'll post the output of dmesg
after the problem has occurred (and I have reloaded the kernel module). This
problem happens all the time on my laptop (anywhere from 2-3 times/hour), and
it is always fixed by doing this:
sudo killall NetworkManager
sudo modprobe -r iwl4965
sleep 2
sudo modprobe iwl4965
sudo NetworkManager

I'll attach my dmesg from just after startup if necessary. Thanks for
any help.

[Bug 461385] Re: Network manager doesn't reconnect to hidden wireless network

2009-12-03 Thread JoshuaPurcell
I have this same issue. I am connecting to my work's hidden wireless
network and I don't have the option for unhiding the ESSID. I start my
laptop, once booted I choose 'Connect to Hidden Wireless Network...',
select the correct network listed in the new window's dropdown, and the
data for that network connection populates but without the password as
shown in the screenshot in the first post of this thread. It is
uneditable, so I must then choose 'New' from the list and manually enter
all that information again. Every time I boot up.
