[Bug 889145] Re: focus follows mouse breaks desktop interaction
confirmed this for 12.04 This is extremely annoying - have had to rescue things from the trash many times. The problem is that the desktop never get's focus, unless all other windows are minimized. Just click on an icon on the desktop, while a window is open, the unity bar will always show the window having focus. Only after minimizing all windows the unitybar will show Ubuntu Desktop with the correct menu. I guess this is because if you do not have a window full screen, the global menu's can not be reached if you have focus follows mouse. Thanks, I finally get it. 2010/11/18 Zerocool3001 timf...@gmail.com Jouke: According to the bug report filed with Avahi (http://www.avahi.org/ticket/303), the dns-ds.h currently in the Avahi package does not use the API's for CUPS 1.4 (the details are on the avahi bug report). The dns-sd.h included in Mac OS X seems to use these correct API's and functions with CUPS 1.4. It seems that the simple solution (as the bug maintainer suggests) would be to include the solution from Apple's dns-sd.h. However, looking at the comments on that bug shows that people don't agree with this solution (for what appears to be a dislike of Apple). Until dns-sd.h uses the API's in CUPS 1.4 (and to be used in future versions of CUPS), Apple's Bonjour would seem to be the only dnssd implementation that will work with CUPS. -- CUPS DNS-SD (Bonjour/mDNS/Zeroconf/Avahi) not broadcasting https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/465916 You received this bug notification because you are a direct subscriber of the bug. -- Jouke Postma -- CUPS DNS-SD (Bonjour/mDNS/Zeroconf/Avahi) not broadcasting https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/465916 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Zerocool3001: would a ppa for the avahi-daemon with the latest version 0.6.28 do the trick for all? 2010/11/18 Zerocool3001 timf...@gmail.com Thawn: To respond to your question from some time ago (post #40), the default configuration file for Snow Leopard (which I am using) contains the line BrowseLocalProtocols CUPS dnssd My guess is that the local instance of dnssd picks up shared printers on the network and passes them to CUPS. It may be that adding the BrowseRemoteProtocols line bypasses this method and instead checks the network directly for CUPS shared printers. However this solution still requires editing a configuration file on the client side, something most users will not want to do. While it may work in the meantime, it would be a problem for users to do this whenever they wanted to connect to a printer shared from an Ubuntu server. Lorenz: The problem here (and the solution) lies within the Avahi implementation. It hasn't kept up with the changes to the CUPS library in 1.4. Likely the only solution here is update the Avahi package to use the new API's. Re: [Bug 465916] Re: CUPS DNS-SD (Bonjour/mDNS/Zeroconf/Avahi) not broadcasting
As I understand a real server work around requires different software versions (older cups or newer libdns?). A manual work around would involve placing .service files for each printer in the /etc/avahi/services/ folder. It seems challenging to write the content of the file though. There are few working examples on the net. This post may get someone started: http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/avahi/2007-April/001039.html anyone with more insight, please let me know. Or if you are really a guru in this area, would it be possible to write a script that generates the .service files? last idea, but I haven't tried it: netatalk can broadcast printers using apple talk protocol. But I am not sure if that is still enabled by default on the new macs. 2010/6/10 Thawn webmas...@korten-privat.de: Matt: Sorry, I misunderstood. Zerocool: I have to disagree, following the steps in my comments #3 and #6 fixes the issue for mac clients (it has done so for me and several other users). [Bug 211153] Re: [Hardy] High system load coming out of suspend and hibernate
I have noticed this for a number of releases - can't remember when I saw it the first time - but never thought much of it. Linux load values include processes that are waiting for io operations. It is clearly that the processor sits around idle during this temporarily high load. So I concluded that the high load (I had a load of 14 just a few minutes ago) is caused by 14 processes that are waiting. [Bug 198604] [NEW] page numbers can not be larger than total number of pages
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: openoffice.org2 When I use a page number offset when inserting page numbers - the page number will not show on pages where the page number is larger than the total number of pages. For example in 24 page document I want to the page numbering to start with page 20 and number continues to page 44. However from 25-44 don't show any numbers - just the grey field shading. Example 2: chapter 3 of my thesis should start with page number 83 but the chapter has only 20 pages. No pagenumbers will be shown - just the grey field shading. Work around: insert as many empty pages at the end of the document as the offset and print only the desired pages. For example if the page number offset is 20, insert 20 empty pages at the end of the document. Operating system: ubuntu gutsy OOffice version: tried both 2.3.0-ubuntu5 and vanilla debian package from ooffice site version 2.3.1 Steps to repeat: Open new writer document, choose insert page number (this works) next insert page number with offset (ctrl f2 - page - page numbers - as in page style - offset 1 (does not work until), press ctrl end and than ctrl enter - page number with offset now shows on first page. ** Affects: openoffice.org2 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- page numbers can not be larger than total number of pages https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/198604 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I totally agree - scrolling desktops should be turned off when using touchpad. This is a daily annoyance. But the current workaround, turning scrolling off altogether, would be worse. [Bug 68661] Re: Current version 3.0.1 crashes Eclipse at startup.
confirmed. the cdt crashes when loading and existing project. Eclipse will start with a 'clean' workspace. You can create new projects, but the next time eclipse start in the same workspace it will crash. The cdt version in the repositories just needs to be updated to the current version. -- Current version 3.0.1 crashes Eclipse at startup. https://launchpad.net/bugs/68661 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
