This also affects real machines, not only virtual ones. After installing virtualbox-guest-x11: At first I encountered this bug: https://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php/518831-The-screen-locker-is-broken-and-unlocking-is-not-possible-anymore I also noticed that "konsole" would not start anymore. Ok, symlink '/usr/bin/abrowser' points to /usr/bin/firefox which points to my own startup script. So fixed with: sudo mv /usr/bin/firefox{,.custom} sudo mv /usr/bin/firefox.original /usr/bin/firefox Also set the default browsers to chromium with: sudo update-alternatives --config x-www-browser sudo update-alternatives --config gnome-www-browser to avoid starting the old firefox version inadvertently (which always causes problems). I will also have to set the BROWSER variable in .bashrc correctly. Re: [Bug 503485] Re: kernel lockup on resume
Yes, this still a problem. I installed the latest upstream kernel and it still doesn't resume correctly. The first time I tried it, the caps lock indicator was blinking (kernel panic) and I couldn't even shut down the laptop by keeping the power button pressed. I had to unplug it. The second time, it behaved as previously, i.e. black screen and nothing works (no REISUB, no ctrl-alt-del). Keeping power button pressed turned the laptop off. After the reboot, I tried running the apport command you gave me, but got the following crash: = $ apport-collect -p linux 503485 Logging into Launchpad... [Bug 514485] Re: kernel lockup when plugging in USB stick
Gnome also suddenly logged me out today while I was using Kate. And I have absolutely no idea why it happened. Some weird Gnome shortcut to log out??? I did install usbmount to try to fix the inconsistent usb key mounting behaviour. Could it have something to do with it? I have no idea... [Bug 514485] Re: kernel lockup when plugging in USB stick
Lockup+reboot happened again today, exactly when I needed to really use a USB key... I noticed the following messages after the reboot (in tty1): udevd[510]: can not read '/etc/udev/rules.d/z80_user.rules' (also present after "normal boot") ... mountall: fsck /home[925] terminated with status 1 init: ureadahead-other main process (983) terminated with status 4 (also present after "normal boot") z80_user.rules info: [^_^][3][~]$ readlink -f /etc/udev/rules.d/z80_user.rules /etc/udev/user.rules [^_^][4][~]$ ls -l /etc/udev/rules.d/z80_user.rules lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 13 2010-02-03 15:14 /etc/udev/rules.d/z80_user.rules -> ../user.rules [^_^][5][~]$ ls -l /etc/udev/user.rules -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 2010-02-03 16:18 /etc/udev/user.rules [^_^][6][~]$ file /etc/udev/user.rules /etc/udev/user.rules: empty [^_^][7][~]$ cat /etc/udev/user.rules [^_^][8][~]$ -- kernel lockup when plugging in USB stick https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/514485 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 514485] Re: kernel lockup when plugging in USB stick
Switched to gdm/Gnome as default desktop since a few days (KDE software still there). Haven't been able to reproduce the lock up + autoreboot despite several attempts. So this seems to somehow be related to kdm/KDE. However, I noticed strange behaviour in Gnome too: -USB sticks don't always get automounted (with the nautilus browser window being opened automatically and the USB icon appearing on the desktop) -They don't get unmounted correctly when using "safely remove" (I have /media/usb* directories left in /media) -- kernel lockup when plugging in USB stick https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/514485 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 445509] Re: xchat tray icon doesn't appear if xchat is in Startup Applications
I'm having this problem too now that I'm using Gnome again. However, I think it might be related to somethintg I noticed in KDE: When I restart plasma-desktop, all system tray icons reappear in the system tray, except xchat which appears in it's own mini window (only an xchat icon + titlebar). -- xchat tray icon doesn't appear if xchat is in Startup Applications https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/445509 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
