[Bug 1683043] Re: Black screen after installing virtualbox-guest-x11

2017-05-25 Thread KIAaze
This also affects real machines, not only virtual ones.

After installing virtualbox-guest-x11:

At first I encountered this bug:
https://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php/518831-The-screen-locker-is-broken-and-unlocking-is-not-possible-anymore
I also noticed that "konsole" would not start anymore.
After logging out completely, I got the black screen.
The same happened after rebooting. Just a black screen, but the virtual
terminals worked.

I fixed it by simply removing the package:
sudo apt purge virtualbox-guest-x11

2013-01-13 Thread KIAaze
After closing the error window, there was another one for dictionaries-common I
think.
Now the install process has been hanging at 'configuring nautilus-dropbox' for
almost an hour.

How I started the upgrade:
-I changed 'Prompt=lts' to 'Prompt=normal' in
/etc/update-manager/release-upgrades
-Ran 'muon-updater'
-Checked for updates
-Started the upgrade

2011-09-06 Thread KIAaze
Ok, symlink '/usr/bin/abrowser' points to /usr/bin/firefox which points
to my own startup script.

So fixed with:
sudo mv /usr/bin/firefox{,.custom}
sudo mv /usr/bin/firefox.original /usr/bin/firefox

Also set the default browsers to chromium with:
sudo update-alternatives --config x-www-browser
sudo update-alternatives --config gnome-www-browser
to avoid starting the old firefox version inadvertently (which always causes
problems).

I will also have to set the BROWSER variable in .bashrc correctly.

I might uninstall the firefox package completely or use ubuntuzilla
instead.

I just did a "sudo apt-get update" and then "sudo apt-get upgrade".
I do have a firefox installation in my home directory with firefox 6.0.1 (to
have the latest version) and /usr/bin/firefox linked to it (through a custom
script). I guess that might cause problems during upgrades.

[Bug 574078] Re: Fails to launch modules: "Can't locate Net/DBus.pm in @INC"

2011-04-04 Thread KIAaze
Hi,

I experienced this bug too and the "sudo chmod o+x
/lib/dbus-1.0/dbus-daemon-launch-helper" fixed it for me.
More info here:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1719380

Is it dangerous to chmod o+x /lib/dbus-1.0/dbus-daemon-launch-helper?

[Bug 667226] Re: No sound with ascii art demo

2010-11-07 Thread KIAaze
I tried it, but can only get sound or "video", but not both at the same time.
This is on Ubuntu 10.10.
I tried with padsp and pasuspender, but they didn't work.
Also tried different sound settings in bb, without success.

[Bug 575342] [NEW] Impossible to change keyboard layout in Live-CD

2010-05-04 Thread KIAaze
Public bug reported:

There is currently no easy way to change the keyboard layout while in the
Live-CD session.
The only possibilities are:
-using setxkbmap
-starting an install process and quitting right after choosing the keyboard
layout

The first one is not newbie friendly and the second one is not
straightforward at all.

It is easy to forget to select the correct keyboard layout before
booting into the Live-CD environment, so it would be nice to be able to
change the keyboard layout through the default menu.

I think there should at least be a way to change it in
preferences->"Keyboard and mouse" or "language support".

Re: [Bug 503485] Re: kernel lockup on resume

2010-04-27 Thread KIAaze
Yes, this still a problem.

I installed the latest upstream kernel and it still doesn't resume
correctly.

The first time I tried it, the caps lock indicator was blinking
(kernel panic) and I couldn't even shut down the laptop by keeping the
power button pressed.
I had to unplug it.

The second time, it behaved as previously, i.e. black screen and
nothing works (no REISUB, no ctrl-alt-del). Keeping power button
pressed turned the laptop off.

After the reboot, I tried running the apport command you gave me, but
got the following crash:

=
$ apport-collect -p linux 503485

Will do so as soon as possible. I already have enough disk space to

Any specific things I should configure in menuconfig?

People having problems with frozen fullscreen apps might be interested in this:

It doesn't address the problem of frozen X servers, but it allows easy

[Bug 514485] Re: kernel lockup when plugging in USB stick

2010-04-13 Thread KIAaze
Gnome also suddenly logged me out today while I was using Kate. And I
have absolutely no idea why it happened. Some weird Gnome shortcut to
log out???

I did install usbmount to try to fix the inconsistent usb key mounting
behaviour. Could it have something to do with it? I have no idea...
If only I had time to start kernel hacking. :/

[Bug 514485] Re: kernel lockup when plugging in USB stick

2010-04-12 Thread KIAaze
Switched to gdm/Gnome as default desktop since a few days (KDE software still
there).
Haven't been able to reproduce the lock up + autoreboot despite several
attempts.
So this seems to somehow be related to kdm/KDE.

However, I noticed strange behaviour in Gnome too:
-USB sticks don't always get automounted (with the nautilus browser window
being opened automatically and the USB icon appearing on the desktop)
-They don't get unmounted correctly when using "safely remove" (I have
/media/usb* directories left in /media)

[Bug 445509] Re: xchat tray icon doesn't appear if xchat is in Startup Applications

2010-04-10 Thread KIAaze
I'm having this problem too now that I'm using Gnome again.

However, I think it might be related to somethintg I noticed in KDE:
When I restart plasma-desktop, all system tray icons reappear in the system
tray, except xchat which appears in it's own mini window (only an xchat icon +
titlebar).
