[Bug 1851162] Re: nvidia-drivers-390 fail to build with kernel 5.3

2020-01-31 Thread km
I took the kernel update to 5.3.0-28.30~18.04.1 as well as the
390.116-0ubuntu0.18.04.3 nvidia driver updaate. The driver built fine,
and its running fine on 5.3.0-28 for me.

[Bug 1860295] [NEW] dpkg-reconfigure nvidia-dkms-390 fails for kernel 5.3.0.-26

2020-01-19 Thread km
Public bug reported:

After the update from 5.0 to 5.3 the dkms reconfigure of the nvidia-390 kernel
module fails.
The problem seems to be in a conflict between the "list_is_first" routine in
the module and the new kernel, which causes a compile error. I will upload
/var/lib/dkms/nvidia/390.116/build/make.log

The reference in the log to autoconf.h missing is spurious. The
generated/autoconf.h exists.

Here is the reconfigure output

Whilst 'lxc.apparmor.profile: unconfined' appears the only way to keep

https://github.com/lxc/lxd/issues/5439#issuecomment-461257784

> The fix in LXD is only partial because there's currently no safe way
for us to fix that for privileged containers due to an apparmor parser
bug that the AppArmor team is still working on.

So we've made the change only to the unprivileged policy for now as the
AppArmor bug isn't causing too much damage in that case.

There's no such distinction in profile in LXC, so putting those same lines in
the LXC policy would allow every user to bypass all mount protections, which
isn't acceptable from a security point of view.
So the LXC fix is effectively blocked on the AppArmor security bug being
resolved first.

As for the AppArmor profile rule, see
https://github.com/lxc/lxc/blob/master/config/apparmor/abstractions/container-base.in#L94

I've pinged jjohansen from the AppArmor devs on irc about it and am
hoping he's gonna find the time to dig into this soon.

2019-01-11 Thread km
strace does not seem to be the tool to figure out the info you are
asking for. Considering that the pid of the involved processes would be
unknown at the time of starting strace. And executing the process(es)
from the cli along with strace will not bear fruit for the case.

Going back to the log message I would reckon that MOUNT_NAMESPACES is in
play, in particular recursive MS_SLAVE. Would be that be supported by AA
in general and with the profile in particular?

[Bug 1807134] Re: lxc 3.0.2/3 - cannot create root password in privileged container

2018-12-17 Thread km
The issue is due to the lxc logic of applying in deploying in
default.conf

lxc.idmap = u 0 10 65536
lxc.idmap = g 0 10 65536

in which case the container is ultimately constructed as unprivileged
container and such cannot be reverted with a the container specific

and passwd in an unprivileged container it is however not possible to
create a password the same way for a privileged container (tried centos
  7 and ubuntu cosmic).

Error reported from within the containers:

  passwd: System error
  passwd: Authentication token manipulation error

  Error reported at the host:

passwd: PAM audit_log_acct_message() failed: Operation not permitted

-
  Next tried with:

- chroot /srv/lxc/container_name/rootfs passwd
+ chroot /container/path/rootfs passwd

but that produced the same error.
-

  Next tried with:

  lxc.cap.keep = CAP_AUDIT_WRITE

but the container would not boot.

-
  Next tried with:

  lxc.apparmor.profile = unconfined

  but no remedy.

-
Next switched the kernel to 4.19.7 but no dice either.

[Bug 1786995] Re: autodev: adapt to changes in Linux 4.18

2018-08-14 Thread km
Looking forward to 3.0.2 then. Whilst 4.18 is indeed not shipping the
thread in the lxc forum at least indicates that there are a few users on
the mainline kernel.

Like I just updated to 4.18 and then remembered the forum thread.

Want to close this as fixed then (with the upcoming release of 3.0.2)?

[Bug 1781273] [NEW] updated version 5.3

2018-07-11 Thread km
Public bug reported:

It appears that that the upstream development
https://git.centos.org/summary/rpms!qemu-kvm reached meantime version
5.3 whilst the unbuntu package offered is version 4.

Would it be worth to investigate whether the updated version provides
benefits to the user and thus update the package for the ubuntu
community?

[Bug 1579204] [NEW] Auto Hide Launcher Doesn't Work

2016-05-06 Thread km
Public bug reported:

I running Ubuntu 16.04 in VirtualBox 5.0.20. With auto hide launcher enabled
the launcher
does not reappear no matter how I manipulate the mouse. Alt-F1 does bring the
launcher up.

This used to work on the same host with Ubuntu 15.10 running in VirtualBox. I
didn't do
an upgrade from 15.10, just a new install.

I see lots of bug reports to much older versions of Ubuntu, but don't know that
they
are relevant.

[Bug 1455773] Re: mysql will not start after 5.5 to 5.6 upgrade

2015-06-01 Thread km
Can't be sure, but I think its a general problem. If you want to try and
reproduce it try:

* Start with 14.04 with mysql server installed, configured, and running.
* /etc/apparmor.d should contain a profile file usr.sbin.mysqld
* Do the upgrade first to 14.10 and then to 15.04
* When doing the upgrades you will be asked if you want to supply a password
for mysql server. Just say continue
(motivation, you are not trying to change mysqld password)
* check /etc/apparmor.d. If it has the old usr.sbin.mysqld (and an uninstalled
dist file) you have hit the bug

The old apparmor (5.5) profile cannot work with the updated (5.6)
mysqld.

I found the problem. Apparmor still had the 5.5 profile which survived

[Bug 1455937] Re: HP 1018 not seen after upgrade to Ubuntu 15.04

2015-05-28 Thread km
I found the problem. It had nothing to do with kernels. The udev rule
56-hpmud.rules was left over from 14.04 through the upgrade to 15.04.
The action it induced when the printer is connected broke the printer
identification.

Removing the rule fixed the problem. This udev rule was part of the
hplip package, and did not cause the identification problem on 14.04.

[Bug 1455937] Re: HP 1018 not seen after upgrade to Ubuntu 15.04

2015-05-20 Thread km
Before I get into bisection, I did another experiment. I also have a
macbookpro running Ubuntu 15.04 same kernel. I plugged the printer into
the macbook and it is properly recognized. I'm attaching the relevant
portions of the syslog from the workstation and the macbook. They are
quite a bit different.

The workstation, is the original machine that lost the printer after the
upgrade. The macbook is running the same OS/kernel but sees the printer.

[Bug 1455773] Re: mysql will not start after 5.5 to 5.6 upgrade

2015-05-18 Thread km
i have rebooted several times. I'm not aware of local overrides,
certainly not done manually.

I do have one concern. During the upgrade it asked me several times
about a mysql password which I declined to enter.

Re: [Bug 1343248] Missing required logs.

2014-08-04 Thread km
Unfortunately I am on a production machine and due to the server hanging
and becoming unresponsive, I had to reinstall ubuntu 12.10 server edition.
The problem does not appear in this 12.10

But then I found that this softlockup problem has been solved and the last
working kernel version that was reported to be working fine was 3.12.0-8

see
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1269404

Now
 http://www.spinics.net/lists/kernel/msg1716965.html
This is a patch that was believed to be solution to the problem. But in the
upstream kernels I do not see the patch applied.

So could this patch be applied upstream into 3.16 ?
Please let me know.

Krishna

It turns out the problem was the blueman package. I deleted it an now
bluetooth is working as before. Its been installed for a very long time,
but apparently something recent caused a problem when a bluetooth audio
device disconnected.

[Bug 1212287] [NEW] bluetooth will not reconnect after first disconnect

2013-08-14 Thread km
Public bug reported:

Bluetooth had been working well for me until recently. I'm running
Ubuntu 13.04 with a bluetooth USB dongle that I use to pair with various
headphones.

Suddenly, after the first successful connection to the headphone, once I
disconnect either from the headphone side or the computer side, the
headphones will no longer reconnect.

I've found that to reconnect, I need to

stop bluetooth;rmmod bnep btusb rfcomm bluetooth ; start bluetooth

then remove and reinsert the bluetooth USB dongle. Then I can reconnect.

I've been using the same hardware for quite a while and this problem is
very recent. The only software changes are by the patches which I
always accept.

[Bug 1193887] [NEW] Network Manager not starting vpnc on 13.04

2013-06-23 Thread km
Public bug reported:

I use a vpnc tunnel which worked properly through NetworkManager in
12.10 and earlier. On 13.04 NetworkManager never invokes vpnc when I
tell the NetworkManager GUI to start the tunnel. The configuration
hasn't changed since the upgrade.

I can run vpnc-connect manually with no issue, but NetworkManager won't.
The GUI shows the check mark as if its started the tunnel but vpnc
itself is never invoked.

Any ideas on how to debug this? Running NetworkManager with a DEBUG log
level doesn't reveal anything. The only reference to vpnc is

info VPN: loaded org.freedesktop.NetworkManager.vpnc

which occurs at startup not when I invoke the tunnel from the GUI.

Repeated reports do not seem to fix errors.

I do not have your development kit, or I might find and fix the errors myself,
and save time with the VM software installation
that I can get for Ubuntu Kernal - any chance that this is possible?

root account for swat

Bug:

[Bug 995238] [NEW] USB 3.0 Failure

2012-05-05 Thread km
Public bug reported:

I've installed a plugable USB 3.0 I/O Card, which shows as

I/O fails after a short while. The hub/drivess work properly off the
built in usb 2.0.

I'm attaching the portion out of dmesg that illustrates the errors when
