[Bug 1966440] Re: gnome-shell crashes often when using the menu (start) button

2022-03-29 Thread KaOS-bEat
Thanks for looking into this.

'Wayland + nvidia drivers' seems to be very problematic...even with 510
I had to reboot in recovery and edit /etc/gdm3/custom.conf to disable wayland
and reinstall nvidia 470 to get a working system again.

I did enable some PPAs, for hardware like an intel realsense depth camera, just
removing the PPAs did not fix the problems.
I never enabled the 'proposed'
a broken upgrade could be a thing...
the dist-upgrade (20.04 >> 22.04) did crash and I had to do 'dpkg --configure
-a' and 'apt --fix-broken' or something similar. Probably a fresh install is a
good idea...

[Bug 1966440] [NEW] gnome-shell crashes often when using the menu (start) button

2022-03-25 Thread KaOS-bEat
Public bug reported:

No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description:Ubuntu Jammy Jellyfish (development branch)
Release:22.04
Codename: jammy

I upgraded from 20.04 LTS

gnome-shell:
  Installed: 3.36.9-0ubuntu0.20.04.2
  Candidate: 42~beta-1ubuntu3
  Version table:

 *** 3.36.9-0ubuntu0.20.04.2 100
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

When I press the "windows" key and start searching for an app this works fine,
and I can launch the app. However immediately afterwards all windows freeze,
loose their decoration/position. Then the screen flashes and we're back. All
notification in the queue pop up again as well.

It happens almost every time.

I checked the PID of the gnome-shell in top, and it effectively changes so I
believe the gnome-shell crashes. It shouldn't.
How can I collect relevant debug info?
I cannot seem to find a cause.
I'm using nvidia-drivers if that matters.

[Bug 512714] [NEW] evdev module not loaded, so no keyboard mouse in X after upgrade to Lucid

2010-01-26 Thread KaOS-bEat
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-evdev

After upgrading form Karmic To Lucid I had no mouse or keyboard in X,
outside X everything was fine. X reported:

"eviocgname failed inappropriate ioctl for device"

unfortunately this is from my google search, and not from the Xlog,
which I forgot to copy after I fixed it. The problem was a missing line
in /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Section "Module"
Load "evdev"
EndSection

after I added the evdev line everything worked fine

[Bug 199167] Re: Owner changed after saving file

2009-12-01 Thread KaOS-bEat
so about 18 months later this bug still hasn't been fixed? This could
lead to serious trouble if you are editing config files on a server
through gedit like I was doing. Files can become unreadable to some
programs.

steps to reproduce in 9.10:

1. open ssh connection in nautilus
2. open text file with other owner then current logged in user (but group write
perms) in gedit
3. save.

I couldn't find another text editor that understood the gnome sftp URI, so it
might be a nautilus/gvfs problem

[Bug 449326] Re: Network services don't start automatically at boot time

2009-11-27 Thread KaOS-bEat
I'm still experiencing this problem on 9.10 with all updates installed.

before I can connect to VPN through the nm-applet I have to manually
run:

#sudo /etc/init.d/openvpn start

#sudo openvpn -C myvpn.conf connects me too.

So I don't know to what it's related, but I read on the unbuntu forums
it could be fixed with a change to the openvpninitscript by addding a
'sleep 3' timout somewhere.

http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=63967&postcount=6

hope this helps

[Bug 65199] Re: Lyx `paste external selection' broken

2009-04-05 Thread KaOS-bEat
I have the same problem. none of the options in the Edit menu show up,
and when I press Ctrl-V, lyx says "Command Disabled" in the bottom
status bar. I have been using lyx for over 5 years, I remember I had to
make a "lyxpipe" sometimes, although I don't remember how. It was a
special file in my home directory. Is it possible that this pipe is not
created on the affected systems?

my system is Linux kaos-desktop 2.6.24-23-generic #1 SMP Mon Jan 26
00:13:11 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux and I'm using lyx 1.5.3
