[Bug 204577] Re: private homedirs and separate XDG_PUBLICSHARE_DIR (/home/share/)
This bug is (not surprisingly) also present in the server versions of Ubuntu. I don't think such a default behavior is acceptable in a server distro. Actually I don't even think it is acceptable in a desktop distro. One can change whether newly created home folders are world-readable or not: sudo dpkg-reconfigure adduser -- private homedirs and separate XDG_PUBLICSHARE_DIR (/home/share/) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/204577 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I thought it was a lot more frequent. You could try using Ubuntu without the restricted driver for a few days and see if the issue persists. If it does not, than we have a starting point. [Bug 222192] Re: Distorted sound after upgrade from Gutsy to Hardy
Setting the PCM volume for me to 74[db gain=0.00, 0.00] solved it. It was actually changed to 100 by MPD well actually me... but through MPD... through an MPD client... I got all gnome applications to leave my PCM volume alone and instead play with the Headphone's volume(which is not actually the headphones' ...), but it seems that a gimmix(a gnome MPD client) set it through MPD.
