[Bug 376452] Re: upgrade app will not function

2009-05-16 Thread karel
The bug can not be reported directly from the application because both
synaptic and ubuntu package managers crash (or deliberately close?)
after reporting this error. It is a serious problem because the is no
way to install on the system now. apt-get autoclean reports the same
error:

Reading package lists... Error!
E: Encountered a section with no Package: header
E: Problem with MergeList
/var/lib/apt/lists/repoubuntusoftware.info_dists_jaunty_all_binary-i386_Packages
E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.

Thanks for any hint on how to solve this.

[Bug 268089] [NEW] [intrepid]Kernel 2.6.27-2 fails to boot on ACER aspire 9410z without noapic

2008-09-09 Thread Karel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.27-2-generic

The default kernel refuses to boot shortly into the boot process. The
noapic kernel option does allow it to complete the boot process.

The last few lines before it hangs look like this:

[1.021351] checking TSC synchronisation [CPU#0 -> CPU#1]: passed.
[1.024063] Brought up 2 CPUs
[1.024132] Total of 2 processors activated (6916.76 BogoMIPS).
[1.025090] net_namespace: 840 bytes
[1.025171] Booting paravirtualized kernel on bare hardware
_

When provided with the noapic option is does show still show this
message briefly, not certain if it is related.

ACPI: EC: GPE storm detected, disabling EC GPE

This thread shows someone with apparantly the same problem on a Fujitsu
Siemens Li1718.

[1.021351] checking TSC synchronisation [CPU#0 -> CPU#1]: passed.
[1.024063] Brought up 2 CPUs
[1.024132] Total of 2 processors activated (6916.76 BogoMIPS).
[1.025090] net_namespace: 840 bytes
[1.025171] Booting paravirtualized kernel on bare hardware
_

When provided with the noapic option is does show still show this
message briefly, not certain if it is related.

ACPI: EC: GPE storm detected, disabling EC GPE

This thread shows someone with apparantly the same problem on a Fujitsu

[Bug 376452] Re: upgrade app will not function

2009-05-16 Thread karel
The bug can not be reported directly from the application because both
synaptic and ubuntu package managers crash (or deliberately close?)
after reporting this error. It is a serious problem because the is no
way to install on the system now. apt-get autoclean reports the same
error:

Reading package lists... Error!
E: Encountered a section with no Package: header
E: Problem with MergeList
/var/lib/apt/lists/repoubuntusoftware.info_dists_jaunty_all_binary-i386_Packages
E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.

Thanks for any hint on how to solve this.

[Bug 268089] [NEW] [intrepid]Kernel 2.6.27-2 fails to boot on ACER aspire 9410z without noapic

2008-09-09 Thread Karel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.27-2-generic

The default kernel refuses to boot shortly into the boot process. The
noapic kernel option does allow it to complete the boot process.

The last few lines before it hangs look like this:

[1.021351] checking TSC synchronisation [CPU#0 -> CPU#1]: passed.
[1.024063] Brought up 2 CPUs
[1.024132] Total of 2 processors activated (6916.76 BogoMIPS).
[1.025090] net_namespace: 840 bytes
[1.025171] Booting paravirtualized kernel on bare hardware
_

When provided with the noapic option is does show still show this
message briefly, not certain if it is related.

ACPI: EC: GPE storm detected, disabling EC GPE

This thread shows someone with apparantly the same problem on a Fujitsu
Siemens Li1718.

The bug can not be reported directly from the application because both

[Bug 139846] Re: [GUTSY] RTC alarm does not retain setting from /proc/acpi/alarm

2009-01-21 Thread Karel Marik
I repeated my tests just after I installed Intrepid. Here are my results:
1) echo 0 > /sys/class/rtc/rtc0/wakealarm
doesn't work due to Permission denied error

2) I found workaround :
usern...@comp:~$ sudo sh -c 'echo 0 > /sys/class/rtc/rtc0/wakealarm'
usern...@comp:~$ sudo sh -c 'echo `date "+%s" -d "+ 5 minutes"` >
/sys/class/rtc/rtc0/wakealarm'
usern...@comp:~$ cat /sys/class/rtc/rtc0/wakealarm
usern...@comp:~$ cat /proc/driver/rtc
rtc_time: 23:20:51
rtc_date: 2009-01-21
alrm_time : 23:25:29
alrm_date : -**-21
alarm_IRQ : no
alrm_pending: no
24hr: yes
periodic_IRQ: no
update_IRQ : no
HPET_emulated : no
DST_enable : no
periodic_freq : 1024
batt_status : okay
usern...@comp:~$

It is interesting "cat /sys/class/rtc/rtc0/wakealarm" gives no output.

Computer didn't boot at specified time. Manual inspection of BIOS
setting revealed correctly changed time (23:25:29). However date (of
month) was wrong - 1.

3) I repeated step 2 with changed /etc/default/rcS file according to
advice in http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/ACPI_Wakeup

Same result as in (2) in BIOS. Warning! I had serious problem to boot
then! Finally, I had to boot using live CD and reject changes in
/etc/default/rcS in order to boot again.

I am strongly interested to turn it working. So far without success. I
am planning to test Fisslefink's solution next time.

Regards

Karel

[Bug 139846] Re: [GUTSY] RTC alarm does not retain setting from /proc/acpi/alarm

2009-01-22 Thread Karel Marik
I tested wakealarm with changed BIOS setting. I set PowerUp method to
"Everyday" instead of "ByDate". Then applied same procedure:
$ sudo sh -c 'echo 0 > /sys/class/rtc/rtc0/wakealarm'
$ sudo sh -c 'echo `date "+%s" -d "+ 5 minutes"` >
/sys/class/rtc/rtc0/wakealarm'

Computer woke up after 5 minutes normally. Thus, time setting is
correct. The whole problem is to set date.

Fisslefink, could you please post your BIOS setting?
Next item - there is significant difference between my and your cat
/proc/driver/rtc listing in alarm date. Your alarm date is set to "-**-**".
Mine alarm date shows day of month. Could you please verify if your generated
cat /proc/driver/rtc just after setting alarm? Thank you.

Leann, is there any way to test Jaunty wakeup without installing it?
(e.g. using just from live CD or using a virtual image?) It took me lot
of time to setup current installation. :)

driver since update to intrepid), the laptop is acer travelmate 2304LC.

the patch https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18358#c22 fixes
the problem on my system (tested by patching the jaunty version of the
intel driver - xserver-xorg-video-intel_2.6.3-0ubuntu2)

[Bug 226227] Re: Firefox 3 beta 5 ubuntu 8.04 not printing

2009-03-20 Thread Karel Kozlik
Thanks for pointing to bug #283811, it seems it explain my problem.

The printing does not work from GEdit nor Evince. At it seems it does
work from no GTK application. Printing from OpenOffice, thunderbirt and
from Qt applications works fine.

When I commented the line: AuthInfoRequired username, password
In my /etc/cups/printers.conf I could print from GTK apps as well

[Bug 261710] Re: Corsair Flash Voyager 8GB USB key causes device descriptor read/64, error -110

2009-04-02 Thread Karel Kolman
jaunty, 2.6.28 kernel, usb flash disk A-Data 8GB, the same problem as in
the original bugreport

[ 1174.176050] usb 1-6: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 11
[ 1174.333765] usb 1-6: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
[ 1174.365458] scsi8 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices
[ 1174.367303] usb-storage: device found at 11
[ 1174.367308] usb-storage: waiting for device to settle before scanning
[ 1179.364260] usb-storage: device scan complete
[ 1185.112068] usb 1-6: reset high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address
11
[ 1200.224048] usb 1-6: device descriptor read/64, error -110

setting the inq_timeout just about 5 to 6 fixes the problem for me :)

$ echo 6 > /sys/module/scsi_mod/parameters/inq_timeout
ok
$echo 5 > /sys/module/scsi_mod/parameters/inq_timeout
not ok

the value 20 fixes it too of course

[Bug 410219] [NEW] desktop_is_home_dir should be the default (papercut?)

2009-08-07 Thread Karel Demeyer
Public bug reported:

The desktop_is_home_dir setting should be on by default. This way users
will less likely to lose files and folders put in their home-dir. My
parents lost track of files put automatically in their home-dir by some
applications while they expected to find them on the desktop.

Some more information could be found here:
http://ploum.frimouvy.org/?201-the-aristocratic-desktop-part-2-home-is-
desktop

** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 396874] Re: mount ignores options from fstab

2009-07-29 Thread Karel Zak
man mount, section BUGS:

It is possible that files /etc/mtab and /proc/mounts don’t match. The
first file is
based only on the mount command options, but the content of the
second file also
depends on the kernel and others settings (e.g. remote NFS server. In
particular
case the mount command may reports unreliable information about a NFS
mount point
and the /proc/mounts file usually contains more reliable information.)

The other issue is that the /etc/mtab file for ntfs-3g is maintained by
/sbin/mount.ntfs-3g.

[Bug 53623] Re: TV tuner doesn't pick up signal after hibernation

2006-12-21 Thread Karel Demeyer
Same problem with edgy, saa7134 as TV-card driver and tvtime as
application;  The video-devices are available though in /dev;

modprobe -r saa5134_alsa
modprobe -r saa5134
modprobe saa5134
modprobe saa5134_alsa

fixes the problem but maybe the driver should be reloaded automatically
or *fixed* so it resumes ok after hibernation. This card also has a
radio tuner which starts playing again after changing he frequency
sometimes, even before reloading the driver.
