[Bug 925760] Re: Constant warnings from the kernel: Test WP failed, assume Write Enabled
The "ss_en" option of the ums_realtek driver seems to solve this for me as I described in post #3 at http://askubuntu.com/questions/132100/errors-in-dmesg-test-wp-failed-assume-write-enabled modinfo ums_realtek shows as options: parm: auto_delink_en:enable auto delink (int) parm: ss_en:enable selective suspend (int) parm: ss_delay:seconds to delay before entering selective suspend (int) Empirical testing shows that ss_delay value is how often the error will appear in the console. Disabling the suspend with ss_en=0 still allows the reader to work but not suspend/wake every ss_delay amount of seconds. This fix is still working for me as of Raring Ringtail with 64bit kernel 3.8.0-1-generic #5-Ubuntu -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/925760 Title: Constant warnings from the kernel: Test WP failed, assume Write Enabled To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/925760/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 912558] Re: log.c Assert failed - err=>number == EIO
The pastebin from posting number 2 is mine, and yes the same problem. I manually wrote down from the kernel panic screen then transcribed it to a file while in recovery mode, used pastebinit to post. Installing the upstart version mentioned earlier, it finally allowed me to boot normally. Previously it would say it's doing a core dump but could never find one on the disk. Also when booting to recovery mode, issuing: shutdown -h now would give the same kernel panic. Posting number 10 at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?s=55d242cb643cf1b8293c27b55351e73e&t=1904842 seems to offer a possible solution with: dpkg -l |awk ‘/^rc/ {print $2}’ |xargs sudo dpkg --purge to clear out old conf files -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/912558 Title: log.c Assert failed - err=>number == EIO To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/upstart/+bug/912558/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 331635] Re: sound card not recognized ubuntu 8.10
The ISA versions of this card do not automatically get detected or drivers installed (known case is on Dell GX1 series for instance). In these cases it will not appear in lspci or lsusb output, only in lshw. However, manually loading the driver, or having it load from /etc/modules during boot still works. For this, to try : echo "snd- cs4236" | sudo tee -a /etc/modules and it should work properly next boot.
