[Bug 925760] Re: Constant warnings from the kernel: Test WP failed, assume Write Enabled

2013-01-22 Thread Kaulbach
The "ss_en" option of the ums_realtek driver seems to solve this for me as I
described in post #3 at
http://askubuntu.com/questions/132100/errors-in-dmesg-test-wp-failed-assume-write-enabled
modinfo ums_realtek shows as options:

parm: auto_delink_en:enable auto delink (int)
parm: ss_en:enable selective suspend (int)
parm: ss_delay:seconds to delay before entering selective suspend (int)

Empirical testing shows that ss_delay value is how often the error will appear
in the console.
Disabling the suspend with ss_en=0 still allows the reader to work but not
suspend/wake every ss_delay amount of seconds.

This fix is still working for me as of Raring Ringtail with 64bit kernel
3.8.0-1-generic #5-Ubuntu

[Bug 912558] Re: log.c Assert failed - err=>number == EIO

2012-01-06 Thread Kaulbach
The pastebin from posting number 2 is mine, and yes the same problem. I
manually wrote down from the kernel panic screen then transcribed it to a file
while in recovery mode, used pastebinit to post.
Installing the upstart version mentioned earlier, it finally allowed me to boot
normally.
Previously it would say it's doing a core dump but could never find one on the
disk.
Also when booting to recovery mode, issuing: shutdown -h now would give the
same kernel panic.
Posting number 10 at
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?s=55d242cb643cf1b8293c27b55351e73e&t=1904842
seems to offer a possible solution with:
dpkg -l |awk ‘/^rc/ {print $2}’ |xargs sudo dpkg --purge

to clear out old conf files

[Bug 325856] Re: "Gave up waiting for root device" with the 2.6.27-11-generic kernel

2009-02-20 Thread Kaulbach
Free up as much room as possible.
"linux-image-2.6.27-11-generic (source: linux): Linux kernel image for version
2.6.27 on x86/x86_64. In component main, is optional. Version 2.6.27-11.27
(intrepid), package size 22897 kB, installed size 92184 kB"

So this means you require in the neighbourhood of 120Mb free space to
download and install it.

[Bug 331716] Re: previously booted into GUI login screen, now boots to terminal login. type "startx" toboot into a GUI.

2009-02-20 Thread Kaulbach
As hinted to by the error message, the output of the commands:
xprop -root | grep XKB
gconftool-2 -R /desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/kbd
Might help with deciding further where the problem is. Attaching them to this
bug report could be useful.

Keyboard may be unconfigured. You try reconfigure your keyboard setup by:
run setxkbmap -rules xorg -layout us
(in this case "us" for United States keyboard layout, but use instead the
country code which is appropriate)

[Bug 331635] Re: sound card not recognized ubuntu 8.10

2009-02-20 Thread Kaulbach
The ISA versions of this card do not automatically get detected or
drivers installed (known case is on Dell GX1 series for instance). In
these cases it will not appear in lspci or lsusb output, only in lshw.
However, manually loading the driver, or having it load from
/etc/modules during boot still works. For this, to try : echo "snd-
cs4236" | sudo tee -a /etc/modules and it should work
properly next boot. Please report back results for completeness.

[Bug 235648] [NEW] Totem, infinite codec install loop (ON2/VP6)

2008-05-28 Thread Kaulbach
Public bug reported:

While opening an .flv file grabbed in FF3b5 with addon Fast Video Download.
File is attached.
Hardy Heron, Totem 2.22.1 GStreamer 0.10.18
When opening, Totem requires codec ON2/VP6
Codec installs (video), then an audio codec seems required, this installs. Then
it returns to requesting video codec again, in an infinite loop.
If interrupted after installing video codec and file played... video no audio.
