[Bug 1888877] Re: ASIX AX88179 network device driver is not working properly
Adding another log here, when attaching an Anker usb hub with ax88179_178a. As can be seen at the end of the log, the link is established and can function (i.e. ping, load web pages, etc.) despite the two "Failed to read reg index" errors. [Bug 1935728] Re: [radeon] Mouse pointer randomly disappears - other mouse operations still work
Are there any tests I can do? Tried a few different blue tooth mouses - same result. Slowed the mouse speed, changed screen resolution - same result. Can't find a pattern as to what triggers this - sometimes heavy usage, some times very little. I'm happy to run any diagnostics - if we can't resolve this I will have to look at getting a different hardware but would like to keep using this if we can resolve it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1935728 Title: [radeon] Mouse pointer randomly disappears - other mouse operations still work To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/+bug/1935728/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1907509] [NEW] Screen Tearing Compiz Unity Nvidia Intel hybrid integrated
Public bug reported: I've tried several solutions to fix screen tearing in 16.04, but nothing seems to work. Screen tearing is so bad that the display is fragmented into 2-4 horizontal and diagonal sections during any scrolling event, along with artifacts while updating the screen in any way, like videos, new tabs, opening programs, moving windows, etc... This issue started occurring after a re-installation of libunity-core-6.0-9 and compiz packages. I attempted to remedy the situation by installing Nvidia drivers, thinking they might help compared to nouveau, but no change. [Bug 874588] Re: ld --as-needed breaks implicit rules in make
I agree it does seem preferable to use LDLIBS or LOADLIBES for libraries, but not necessarily incorrect to put them in LDFLAGS. The GNU make manual defines LDFLAGS as Extra flags to give to compilers when they are supposed to invoke the linker, which doesn't seem to exclude something like -lz. It mentions LDLIBS and LOADLIBES, but doesn't define them. Mecklenburg's Managing Projects with GNU make says LDFLAGS holds options for linking such as -L flags, while LDLIBS and LOADLIBES contain lists of libraries to link against, which is a little clearer but still not great. Would there be any harm in moving LDFLAGS in make's implicit rules? And if it is strictly incorrect to put libraries in LDFLAGS, could make generate a warning when they appear there? At the very least, it would be nice to mention this in the manual. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/874588 Title: ld --as-needed breaks implicit rules in make To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/make/+bug/874588/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 874588] [NEW] ld --as-needed breaks implicit rules in make
Public bug reported: The default use of --as-needed with ld in oneiric breaks some implicit rules used by make. These rules invoke cc with command line in which $(LDFLAGS) appears before the source file being compiled or object file being linked, and that order is preserved when cc invokes ld. As a result, ld thinks the libraries listed in LDFLAGS aren't needed and doesn't link them. For example, consider a C source file, example.c: #include zlib.h int main() { inflateInit(0); } and a Makefile: LDFLAGS = -lz example: example.o Running make invokes make's implicit rule for linking a single object file ($(CC) $(LDFLAGS) n.o $(LOADLIBES) $(LDLIBS)), and produces the following output: cc-c -o example.o example.c cc -lz example.o -o example /tmp/ccovHoBb.o: In function `main': example.c:(.text+0x14): undefined reference to `inflateInit_' collect2: ld returned 1 exit status make: *** [example] Error 1 Behind the scenes, ld is being run as ld --as-needed ... -lz example.o When ld processes libz, it doesn't know about any of the references from example.o, so it doesn't include it. This problem seems to have prevented at least one package (sawfish- pager) from being included in oneiric because it would no longer compile, and I worry that there may be others. I'm not sure what the best solution would be. One possibility would be patching make to change its implicit rules, but that could have serious consequences elsewhere. At the very least, it would necessitate patching other programs that run UNIX makefiles, such as remake and pmake. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/874588 Title: ld --as-needed breaks implicit rules in make To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/874588/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 828366] [NEW] Caps lock state of VM (Windows XP using KVM) gets reversed
Public bug reported: Ubuntu 10.10 w/virt-viewer 0.2.1-1ubuntu2 (and virt-manager 0.8.4-7ubuntu1.1) Using KVM, managed by libvirt using the virt-manager package, I created a Windows XP installation on my local workstation. I use the virt-viewer to interact with said virtual machine. Every so often, when I open up virt-viewer to view my already-running VM, I find that the VM thinks that Caps Lock is already on. It isn't. I _never_ touch that key. In fact, it's been remapped so that Caps Lock is just another Ctrl key for me (though this problem manifested itself both before and after this mapping). Normally, this would just be a minor annoyance since turning Caps Lock _on_ makes the VM think it's off. However, I find the Caps Lock key _very_ annoying and have changed my keyboard mapping (as I mentioned above) so that it's just another Ctrl key. Now when this happens, I have to press Shift every keypress in the VM to get lower-case characters _or_ change my keyboard mapping to get Caps Lock back (and turn it on so the VM thinks it's off). This happens unpredictably but with great regularity. As such, I can't tell you how to reproduce it _exactly_ except to create this environment, start said VM and log into Windows (XP) all w/Caps Lock _off_. Then, close virt-viewer and let the VM continue to run for some time, keeping Caps Lock _off_ the whole time. Finally, after some period of time, open virt-viewer to view the VM's screen (with Caps Lock _still_ off). This problem will then present itself some percentage of the time (~25% for me) by the fact that typing into any of the VM's program windows behaves as if Caps Lock is _on_ (though it's still off). Anyhow, now sure where the problem is (what upstream package) but I searched for reports using Red Hat's system for the virt-manager (and virt-viewer) packages and didn't find anything. I know it may also be in the gtk-vnc widget used by virt-viewer or a problem in the underlying libvirt and/or KVM/qemu. Either way, figured the appropriate thing is to report it here first. [Bug 798842] Re: logout user menu obscured by empathy (chat) menu
Well, I can't seem to figure out how to reproduce this bug except that it *seems* to generally just be the state of affairs in non-fresh sessions. This is as opposed to fresh sessions which are ones started by logging in just after I've rebooted or otherwise just powered up the system. Generally, fresh sessions don't seem to exhibit the problem while non-fresh sessions do about %25 of the time. Now, while this bug is annoying, I understand that it's not the highest priority (a HUP signal sent to gnome-panel seems to always fix it). For anyone else who finds this annoying, however, here's my temporary work- around: user@host:~$ mkdir -p ~/bin user@host:~$ cat EOF ~/bin/reset-panel #!/bin/sh ps -C gnome-panel -o pid h | xargs kill -HUP EOF user@host:~$ chmod a+x ~/bin/reset-panel user@host:~$ echo $PATH | tr : \\n | grep ~/bin user@host:~$ reset-panel This just creates a shell script in your own, personal bin directory with one-liner shell script that sens the SIGHUP signal to the gnome- panel process. The second-to-the-last line just verifies that your personal bin directory is in your $PATH variable by printing it if it is (and doing nothing otherwise). The last line just runs it. If it works, any gnome-panels will briefly disappear (your screen will flash) and it should immediately come back w/o this weird artifact. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/798842 Title: logout user menu obscured by empathy (chat) menu To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-panel/+bug/798842/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 798842] [NEW] logout user menu obscured by empathy (chat) menu
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-panel I'll be attaching a screenshot showing the problem. The menu that is on the far right-hand side of the gnome-panel at the top of the screen that includes the logout and lock workstation functionality becomes unavailable or obscured. The empathy chat (and broadcast accounts) integration applet/menu gets double-rendered. About half way through the standard rendering of the first or default section of this applet, the corruption of gnome-panel occurs. The corrupted section doesn't refresh or re-render or respond to mouse clicks. Thus, I can't use the GUI menu there to lock my workstation, log out, or shut down the workstation. I'd love to provide further information (besides a screenshot showing the problem) except that I've waited/lived with this bug for over six months, always trying to see if I could reliably reproduce the problem. However, it has simply been far to random and I've decided to report it anyway. This problem existed on my previous lucid (10.04) install as well. [Bug 787207] Re: Intermittant X crash with ATI card, multiple X drivers
I'm unhappy to say that this is not an ATI problem. I just switched video cards to an NVIDIA and am still seeing the same crashes. I'm working my way through the suggestions on the Obtaining Backtraces for X Crashes page but have had no luck so far. Apport doesn't capture anything, running X through gdb locks the machine hard, and setting NoTrapSignals in xorg.conf causes the X crash to take the rest of the system with it. [Bug 787207] [NEW] Intermittant X crash with ATI card, multiple X drivers
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-core Since upgrading from 10.10 to 11.04, X crashes occasionally, maybe 1-3 times per day. I have tried a variety of troubleshooting measures to isolate the problem, but without success: 1. The crash occurs with the fglrx, ati/radeon, and fbdev drivers, so it doesn't seem to be specific to a particular driver 2. The crash still occurs after downgrading to a 10.10 kernel, so it doesn't seem to be specific to the new kernel 3. The crash occurs with the standard Xorg packages from 11.04, the packages from ubuntu-x-swat, and the packages from xorg-edgers. The crash only happens when I'm actively using the system - I never come back to it to find it at the login screen. [Bug 692848] Re: Regression between 2.6.32-27 and 2.6.32-26 xfsdump SGI_FS_BULKSTAT errno = 22
I see this has been reproduced on a small filesystem, but for future reference xfs has a utility called xfs_metadump that helps in these situations. It grabs just the metadata, so it results in a relatively small file, and the file can then be exploded back into a sparse image of the original filesystem. # xfs_metadump /dev/sda1 sda1.meta # xfs_mdrestore sda1.meta sda1.img # mount -o loop sda1.img /mnt Should alleviate some of the pain in having to reproduce the issue on a new filesystem. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/692848 Title: Regression between 2.6.32-27 and 2.6.32-26 xfsdump SGI_FS_BULKSTAT errno = 22 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

(Plus a QA patch and an additional patch to fix a regression. The Ubuntu backport includes the regression fix). The display is frozen except that the mouse cursor can be moved around. I *DO NOT* have any of the NMI messages that others have reported in any of my log files. Also, I've never suspended my system so there is no correlation with others who seem to have this issue after a suspend. My system will usually run for server hours at a time just fine but is still guaranteed to have this issue eventually. My issue which I was hoping was going to be fixed stems from LDAP being run with PAM - see upstream bug https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=292127 has been open since 2006 and still effects 10.09 (Needed to do the work around after I upgraded) ** Bug watch added: Mozilla Bugzilla #292127 https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=292127 -- Thunderbird crashes with segmentation fault https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/571308 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 574507] Re: Mesa drivers getting munged on Lucid Upgrade
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: Binary package hint: ubuntu-netbook-remix-default-settings Upon updating to Lucid the Mesa drivers seem to be clobbered by fglrx drivers on Intel Based video drivers. Initial (partial) report is here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/netbook-launcher/+bug/570659 GLX related applications will segfault also causing netbook-launcher to loop --- Release: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS --- My fix (from other report) Since my S10-2 has Intel video card, and I noticed that it's trying to use the NVIDIA drivers I started with this: http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=9212078postcount=10 This allowed xorg to at least start using the Intel Drivers for GLX - however, the applications still seg faulted when trying to run which lead me to this: http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=5409267postcount=4 It turned out I did have two different libGL libraries: /usr/lib/mesa /usr/lib/fglrx I removed /usr/lib/fglrx and modified /etc/ld.so.conf.d/GL.conf to point to the mesa drivers, however they didn't seem to really contain all the extensions required. After doing the above I found that fglrx package was still installed so: sudo apt-get remove --purge fglrx This still didn't work, so I reinstalled all the mesa drivers again: sudo apt-get install libglw1-mesa mesa-utils libglu1-mesa libgl1-mesa- glx libgl1-mesa-dri --reinstall forcing all my drivers back to normal for mesa And now I can login with regular remix and run glxgears etc. + --- + Architecture: i386 + DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04 + DkmsStatus: + bcmwl, 5.60.48.36+bdcom, 2.6.31-20-generic, i686: installed + bcmwl, 5.60.48.36+bdcom, 2.6.32-21-generic, i686: installed + bcmwl, 5.60.48.36+bdcom, 2.6.32-22-generic, i686: installed + InstallationMedia: Ubuntu-Netbook-Remix 9.10 Karmic Koala - Release i386 (20091028.4) + MachineType: LENOVO 2957 + NonfreeKernelModules: wl + Package: mesa (not installed) + ProcCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.32-22-generic root=UUID=c83d3801-2c9f-42be-8fe7-e0b9dc7c6642 ro quiet splash + ProcEnviron: + LANG=en_US.utf8 + SHELL=/bin/bash + ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.32-22.33-generic 2.6.32.11+drm33.2 + Tags: lucid ubuntu-une lucid + Uname: Linux 2.6.32-22-generic i686 + UserGroups: + + dmi.bios.date: 08/31/2009 + dmi.bios.vendor: LENOVO + dmi.bios.version: 1ACN20WW(V1.11) + dmi.board.asset.tag: Base Board Asset Tag + dmi.board.name: Mariana2 + dmi.board.vendor: LENOVO + dmi.board.version: Base Board Version + dmi.chassis.asset.tag: Chassis Asset Tag + dmi.chassis.type: 10 + dmi.chassis.vendor: Chassis Manufacturer + dmi.chassis.version: Chassis Version + dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnLENOVO:bvr1ACN20WW(V1.11):bd08/31/2009:svnLENOVO:pn2957:pvrLenovoIdeaPadS10-2:rvnLENOVO:rnMariana2:rvrBaseBoardVersion:cvnChassisManufacturer:ct10:cvrChassisVersion: + dmi.product.name: 2957 + dmi.product.version: Lenovo IdeaPad S10-2 + dmi.sys.vendor: LENOVO + system: + distro: Ubuntu + codename: lucid + architecture: i686 + kernel: 2.6.32-22-generic ** Attachment added: BootDmesg.txt http://launchpadlibrarian.net/48232953/BootDmesg.txt -- Mesa drivers getting munged on Lucid Upgrade https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/574507 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
