2015-04-16 Thread Kevin Krumwiede
This still does not work out of the box on a fresh install of 14.04.2
with all updates from the default repositories. What are the steps to
install fglrx-amdcccle-updates? Any deviations from post #80?

Why does anything from later versions get backported to LTS, anyway?
Seems like that defeats the whole purpose of LTS releases. (As
evidenced by this issue and others like it.) If I wanted a Utopic

[Bug 941649] Re: Invalid RDP credentials report connection error

2014-11-14 Thread Kevin Krumwiede
The comments on this issue seem to be off track. This report is not
about the fact that some of the protocols don't work, although that may
also be an issue. It's about the fact that the error messages in the UI

authentication problem.

[Bug 187313] Re: [MASTER] right click (with button release) might activate random popup-menu-item

2011-05-23 Thread Kevin Krumwiede
This bug is regressed in FF 4.0.1 on Xubuntu 11.04. (It was also
regressed in the FF packaged for Xubuntu 10.10.) Steps to reproduce are
identical to comment #103 from 2008.

If an image is a link and is near the right side of the screen, its
context menu will be drawn under the cursor, 100% reproducible. If the
right mouse button is quickly clicked and released, the user will never
see the menu drawn, and it will appear that a random item has been
selected.

This only affects image links, not text links.

2010-12-07 Thread Kevin Krumwiede
The absence of an updated nvidia-current package may be related to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dkms/+bug/602408

The nvidia binary driver comes with a wrapper that needs to be built for
the current kernel. You ought to be able to install the current kernel
source, then uninstall and reinstall nvidia-current to get a working
driver. However, DKMS insists that kernel source for this kernel does
not seem to be installed even when it is.

[Bug 580947] Re: Toolbox not represented in task bar

2010-09-03 Thread Kevin Krumwiede
This bug (if it is a bug) also affects gimp 2.6.8 on XFCE 4.6.1 (Xubuntu
10.04). The toolbox, layers dialog, etc. are never represented in the
task bar or task switcher. Only the main window (when it exists) or
image windows are represented.

However, the toolbox and other windows are brought to the top whenever
an image window is focused. I assume this behavior is intended to
substitute for their representation in the task bar. It did not do this
in KDE.

It would be nice if the raising behavior and representation in the task
bar were both optional.

[Bug 580947] [NEW] Toolbox not represented in task bar

Public bug reported:

GIMP's toolbox window is sometimes not represented in the task bar.

Also, when this bug occurs, sometimes an additional bug occurs. The

[Bug 199393] Re: servicemenu for amarok has an invalid menu entry addAsPodcast

2008-07-30 Thread Kevin Krumwiede
Yeah, we know the fix was suggested and implemented in 'proposed'. But
it took forever to get to 'proposed', and now it's taking forever to get
into 'main'. These are the kinds of issues that make Linux unacceptable
for the average user. I've been using Ubuntu since the 4.10 betas, and
I was thrilled about being able to promote a distro that just works
(one of Ubuntu's stated goals). But the quality has only declined since
then. Fixing stuff like this in 'main' needs to be priority one if
Canonical is true to its vision. (And don't even get me started about

[Bug 74978] Re: Hiding panel sometimes disappears.

2008-06-30 Thread Kevin Krumwiede
Still a problem in Kubuntu Hardy - cleanly installed this time, not
switched from vanilla Ubuntu. It's happened to me countless times and
it's only ever affected the bottom panel.

Sorry to rain on Bruno's reproducibility, but the case that brought me
here again did not meet that description. I switched desktops and
clicked an application in the task bar that was not minimized, to bring
it to the foreground. It was not brought to the foreground, and the
panel disappeared and would not reappear.

Changing *any* setting on *any* panel and applying the changes restores
the bottom panel's 'show' behavior.

I can't quantify this, but I feel like this happens more often (maybe
exclusively) with GTK applications. I'll try to remember to keep track.

[Bug 136208] Re: No sound in kopete

2008-06-16 Thread Kevin Krumwiede
I got it working, but I can't explain my fix.

Originally, my sound system was set (in Kcontrol) to ALSA, and KDE
system sounds, mplayer, and amaroK were all sharing the sound card.
Trying to test the configured Kopete sounds from within Kopete (under
Settings - Configure Notifications...) sometimes resulted in a pop
from the speakers several seconds after attempting to play the sound,
but otherwise nothing.

I switched the sound system to OSS, which allowed KDE, mplayer, and
Kopete to work, but not amaroK. In the course of trying to get amaroK
to use OSS, I deleted ~/.xine/config. (That probably has nothing to do
with the fix, but you never know.)

Then I switched the sound system back to ALSA. Magically, Kopete was
able to play sounds! This fix survived a reboot. However, after
about 8 hours of uptime, I heard another pop from the speakers when
one of my contacts came online, and then Kopete would not play any more
sounds until I restarted X.

2008-05-04 Thread Kevin Krumwiede
Using kopete 3.5.9-0ubuntu1 on a fresh and up-to-date install of Kubuntu
8.04. I've tried all the solutions in this report and the linked forum
topic. Kopete was already set to use the KDE sound system. Forcing the
KDE sound system to ALSA did not help. Amarok and system sounds are
sharing the hardware just fine. In the KDE sound event config, Kopete
events are turned on and have sounds associated with them, and all play
fine with the test button.

[Bug 74978] Re: Hiding panel sometimes disappears.

2007-12-11 Thread Kevin Krumwiede
Same problem here in Kubuntu 7.10 with kdesktop 4:3.5.8-0ubuntu2. Same
panel configuration. Hmmm...

My left-side panel hasn't gotten stuck yet, only the bottom one. But I
only just switched to Kubuntu (from vanilla Ubuntu) about a week ago.

[Bug 34947] Re: Volume Control slider doesn't update

2007-10-09 Thread Kevin Krumwiede
I'm having a possibly related problem in Gutsy. Not sure if I should
open a new bug.

The volume control and mixer applet both behave erratically. The mixer
applet slider jumps around wildly when scrolling and the applet
unpredictably displays the mute icon, usually without actually muting.
The volume control has different behavior for the left and right volume
channels. The right side slider behaves pretty much normally, while the
left side jumps up and down even more wildly than the mixer applet
slider. Whenever the left slider is moved it breaks the link button
underneath. Consequently, it is extremely difficult to adjust the left
and right channels to the same volume. Then sometimes the left channel
will spontaneously drop to zero, requiring it to be laboriously
readjusted.

I'm also having another problem with mixer_applet2, which may or may not
be related: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/150089

[Bug 150089] mixer_applet2 (aka volume control applet) hogs CPU

2007-10-07 Thread Kevin Krumwiede
Public bug reported:

If a USB sound device is unplugged and replugged while the system is
running, mixer_applet2 begins using nearly 100% of the CPU, according to
top.

[Bug 33736] Re: ALSA dmix not enabled by default for usb sound devices

2007-10-07 Thread Kevin Krumwiede
This bug (or one that manifests in exactly the same way) still exists in
alsa-lib (1.0.14-1ubuntu7) on Gutsy. Should I reopen this or start a
new report?

[Bug 148710] Re: [Gutsy Beta] No sound in some apps

2007-10-07 Thread Kevin Krumwiede
Amendment to the above: ALSA is installed, but without config files. In
my case, this seems to be related to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-lib/+bug/33736, and it
corrects itself if my USB sound device is unplugged and replugged after
logging in but before starting any of the problematic apps.

[Bug 150386] dmix not enabled for USB devices plugged in at boot

2007-10-07 Thread Kevin Krumwiede
Public bug reported:

With alsa-lib 1.0.14 1ubuntu7, it appears that dmix is not enabled by
default for USB devices plugged in when the system boots. As a
workaround, unplug and replug the USB sound device and restart any ALSA-
enabled applications (including the ALSA mixer if affected by
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/150089). Unplugging and
replugging the USB sound device also fixes sound in the Firefox Flash
plugin.

This might be considered a regression of
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-lib/+bug/33736.

[Bug 148710] Re: [Gutsy Beta] No sound in some apps

2007-10-04 Thread Kevin Krumwiede
I'm experiencing the same issue. I installed Gutsy from the beta CD,
and initially sound worked in Flash/FF. After updating packages it does
not.

These traditional Flash sound fixes do NOT solve the problem:
1. symlinking libesd
2. creating a socket file
3. renaming the asound config files (they didn't exist)

ALSA doesn't appear to be installed on my system at all. System sounds
do not work. I can, however, play audio files with Totem and Rhythmbox.

[Bug 67189] Re: smb password not being saved in gnome keyring

2007-10-03 Thread Kevin Krumwiede
Yes, the problem also affects wlan settings. I have to reenter my
password every time I boot, then manually perform all the network
actions that should have occurred automatically.

IMHO, this is *the* showstopper bug for 7.10 release. Even worse than
the system and Flash sound regression a couple days ago.

[Bug 29760] Re: Sound does not work properly in Flash in firefox

Works for me!

I think the sound sync is a Firefox problem. I've noticed the exact
same delay watching YouTube videos with Firefox on WinXP.
