[Bug 682492] Re: Evince: Save Settings as default doesn't work

2012-05-15 Thread Kiran Majer
I think this is due to a very peculiar behavior of evince , that it does
not apply the default settings, if the document is stored somewhere
under /tmp. This is annoying, because most of temporarily used documents
(e.g. pdfs in firefox) are stored there and hence are being opened in a
small window.

[Bug 775117] Re: Thunar hangs on first launch of each session

This is still an issue in 12.04.

second start: time thunar

[Bug 980307] [NEW] Hibernate causes an unmounted hard drive in sleep mode to spin up

2012-04-12 Thread Kiran Majer
Public bug reported:

I've got a hdd for backups, which most of the time is unmounted and sleeping
(spun down). When going into hibernation it spins up shortly before the
computer powers off. This is somehow annoying because it's noisy, elongates the
power off process and is completely senseless.
Syslog shows: "kernel: [ ...] Synchronizing SCSI cache" for all my hdd when
going into hibernation. Thats the only hint I've got so far whats causing the
wakeup.
This happens in oneiric and precise (pm-utils 1.4.1-8ubuntu1 and 1.4.1-9). Btw

> PS: It is aware of files on non-home partitions, just not root. I know

You're right, we have to differentiate a bit more: It does not work on root
(according to Bachsau) and if the partition is mounted on a first level
directory (e.g /srv or /mnt).
It does work if it's mounted on any second level directory or higher (e.g.

[Bug 676917] Re: Trash does not recognize .Trash-1000 on root

2012-03-05 Thread Kiran Majer
This is still an issue with oneiric (gvfs 1.10.0-0ubuntu1), and I would
say a serious one. I use a large ext4 partiton for storing multimedia
files. When I delete a file via gvfs (thunar, gvfs-trash ...) it will be
moved to PARTITION-ROOT/.Trash-$USERID (as it should), but it does not
show up in my trash-bin. That means it will not be deleted when emptying
the trash. So, if you don't delete those files manually your free disk
space keeps shrinking until you completely filled up your partition.

Steps to reproduce:
1. create file in a directory which is on a different partition then $HOME
2. gvfs-trash the file (be sure to have write permission on the partitions root
directory)
3. gvfs-ls trash:// does not show it

Btw. list-trash/empty-trash from the trash-cli package lists and empties
the trash correctly.

[Bug 923326] [NEW] With multiple swap partitions resume from hibenation fails

2012-01-29 Thread Kiran Majer
Public bug reported:

I've 3 swap partitions: sdX2, sdX5 and sdY2. Hibernate is setup via
/etc/defaults/grub and /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume to use sdX5. When
restarting after hibernation the system performs a normal boot.
/var/log/boot.log reports an invalid resume image on sdX2. So I guess, that the
resume image is written to sdX2 (as it should not), but the kernel looks for it
at sdX5 (as it should).
If I disable swap partition sdX2, using only sdX5 and sdY2, resume works
perfectly.

[Bug 876556] [NEW] GPU lockup after upgrade to 11.10

2011-10-17 Thread Kiran Majer
Public bug reported:

After upgrading to oneiric, using opera-next (version 12.00.1105 from the Opera
deb repository) triggers a gpu lockup: mouse still moves but the screen does
not react to input and is not being updated. It is possible to ssh in and get
e.g. Xorg.0.log.
This did not happen in natty even though the opera-next binary was the same.
I get also temporary lockups (few seconds) when I use hugin to join several
photos into a panoramic view. This may have nothing to do with the report
above, but leaves a general impression that the graphic system in oneiric is
unreliable compared to natty.

[Bug 825021] Re: KDE apps in a non-KDE DE fall back to KDE notifications

2011-08-18 Thread Kiran Majer
** Description changed:

KDE applications like amarok or digikam use the regular notification
system of the DE (notifyosd or xfce-notifyd) as long as libnotify4 is
not installed. If libnotify4 is installed, they use another notification
system (different theme, different position), presumably the KDE
notification system or what is left of it in non-KDE DEs.
+
+ Affects the natty version of libnotify4 (0.7.2).

[Bug 733578] Re: lightning's task-list picks wrong colors from gtk-theme

2011-08-03 Thread Kiran Majer
Just want to mention, that this issue is fixed in lightning 1.0b4, which
is available in the thunderbird-stable ppa (together with thunderbird
5).

They actually changed from MenuText to WindowText in the critical
sections.

[Bug 671923] Re: In XScreensaver unlock screen it is not possible to insert "€" sign

2011-07-09 Thread Kiran Majer
Yep, tested 5.14 with the i386 and amd64 oneiric binaries on my natty
systems and it's still the same issue: when entering '€' no star appears
and unlocking doesn't work.

[Bug 799312] [NEW] /etc/hdparm.conf works only for /dev/sdX and not for their symlinks

2011-06-18 Thread Kiran Majer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: hdparm

Setting hard drive parameters in /etc/hdparm.conf finally seems to work since
Ubuntu 10.10, if (and only if) you specify the drives like /dev/sda, /dev/sdb,
. Since the /dev tree is build dynamically by udev, you can't be sure,
that the parameters specified this way are applied to the correct hd. However
it is would be safe to use the correspondent symlinks in /dev/disk/by-uuid or
/dev/disk/by-id to define your hd.
A partial fix was given in #222458. But since then the hdparm script files have
changed and it worked only with symlinks to the drive itself and not with
symlinks to its partitions (like in /dev/disk/by-uuid).
I attach a patch based on #222458, which should fix the above described
problems for 10.10 and 11.04.

[Bug 733578] Re: lightning's task-list picks wrong colors from gtk-theme

2011-06-06 Thread Kiran Majer
Simon, don't bother fixing this in the theme. Thunderbird does the right thing
here. It chooses the system menu color (have a look under System Colors in
https://developer.mozilla.org/en/CSS/color_value) as defined in task-tree.css,
which is in our case white.
So you can either switch the theme menu color to a dark color (which isn't a
real option since we use dark menu backgrounds) or you can make Thunderbird to
choose another color for displaying tasks.

I agree that shipping our own task-tree.css is an overkill. Maybe one
can override those values with the correct entries in userchrome.css or
usercontent.css. Otherwise it has to be fixed upstream.

[Bug 733578] Re: lightning's task-list picks wrong colors from gtk-theme

2011-06-03 Thread Kiran Majer
As pointed out under
http://getsatisfaction.com/mozilla_messaging/topics/in_lightning_how_to_change_the_text_color_for_task_lists
respectively this problem occurs, because they choose the MenuText color
for tasks in calendar-tasks-tree.css, which is for dark menu themes
white (or a light color).

To fix this, one should choose e.g. WindowText as color in the sections:

.calendar-task-tree > treechildren::-moz-tree-cell-text(completed)
.calendar-task-tree > treechildren::-moz-tree-cell-text(future)

of calendar-tasks-tree.css.

[Bug 174836] Re: Athcool not called on a resume

For me the hack is still necessary: Xubuntu 10.10.
Copying the before mentioned pm-utils hook to /etc/pm/sleep.d/10_athcool does
the job.

[Bug 532109] Re: amarok search for MySQL to build the collection while the MySQL database use isn't selected

2010-07-22 Thread Kiran Majer
I had the same problem. Check if the 'mysql-server-core' package is
installed. Installing this package solved the problem for me.

Maybe mysql-server-core should be made a dependency of amarok, or at
least a recommended package.

[Bug 601897] [NEW] Retention policy "Delete all but the most recent xx messages" deletes most recent messages.

2010-07-05 Thread Kiran Majer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: thunderbird

I'm using thunderbird 3.0.4+nobinonly-0ubuntu4 on an Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
x86_64 machine as feed reader. For some feeds I would like to use the
retention policy "Delete all but the most recent xx messages". Setting
xx to let's say ten, causes thunderbird to delete all but ten messages
in a feed folder. But the remaining messages are not the most recent
ones but some in the middle of the time line.

Get the same behavior for icedove 3.0.5 on debian unstable.
