[Bug 2064208] Re: Installer crashes when booting from USB on Raspberry Pi

2024-05-09 Thread Konrad Krasowski
Adding to the above:

1. @waveform - thank you so much for the new image!!! - it works!
Nothing has worked for me until now, even the initial ubuntu setup from
sd card (tried other options: usb stick, sd card via usb adapter, nvme),
no matter how I flashed it (r-imager, balenda etcher). I always ended up
with failed installation pop-up window, without even displaying the
graphic glitch with the progress bar. Now I have managed successfully to
set ubuntu 24.04 lts on my pi from the sd card as well as the nvme!

2. Test hardware details:
   - Raspberry pi 5 with 8gb ram
   - micro sd SanDisc Extreme V30 32GB flashed with Balena Etcher on mac
   - nvme Lexar NM790 1TB (Gen 4x4) flashed with pi-imager using custom image
on my pi when the above got running

[Bug 1962225] Re: preinst check that kernel revision < 255 now does more harm than good

2022-04-18 Thread Konrad Dear
Hi,

Is it possible to add this fix to bionic-backport please? I'm happy to
test and confirm the fix works if required.

It looks harmless to me: https://salsa.debian.org/glibc-
team/glibc/-/commit/b3c76cf1cd0c8b6e4844c6362a45143c136a2900

Thank you.

[Bug 1911959] Re: Fresh Ubuntu 20.04 won't boot after intel-microcode update on ThinkPad T460s

2021-01-19 Thread Markus Konrad
Thank you for giving a hint to the out-of-date firmware and its
implications.

I wanted to update my firmware using fwupdmgr and the firmware binary
files provided by Lenovo. Unfortunately the firmware can only be flashed
when the system boots via UEFI, but my computer won't boot in UEFI mode,
only legacy (BIOS) mode. It doesn't find any bootable device in UEFI-
only mode (not even a USB stick with Ubuntu).

[Bug 1911959] [NEW] Fresh Ubuntu 20.04 won't boot after intel-microcode update on ThinkPad T460s

2021-01-15 Thread Markus Konrad
Public bug reported:

Installed Ubuntu 20.04 from USB disk using the first Ubuntu 20.04
installation image released end of April. The system installs and boots
fine. Then, I run a system update via `apt update && apt upgrade` with
updates to Ubuntu 20.04.1. intel-microcode is updated on this occasion
to version 3.20201110.0ubuntu0.20.04.2. Update installation succeeds but
subsequent reboots most of the time fail. I can access GRUB but a normal
boot of any of the installed kernels results in either a black screen or
a screen with a cursor blinking ad infinitum. Booting in recovery mode
via GRUB and then "resume" works, but external display is not detected
in this case. Sometimes however (maybe 1/5 of the time), making a reboot
from this state works.

When I uninstall intel-microcode via `apt purge intel-microcode` the
problems disappear. I can boot the system without any problem.

I had occasional boot problems already since several months, but they
could be resolved by just rebooting (pressing the power key for a long
time). After the latest update, this wouldn't work anymore, so in the
end I tried out re-installing Ubuntu which resulted in the problems
described above.

I'm using a Lenovo ThinkPad T460s with system firmware version N1CET37W
(1.05) which is quite old.

[Bug 1902708] Re: icedtea-8-plugin is missing IcedTeaPlugin.so

2020-11-05 Thread Konrad Gube
Oh ok, sorry about this then.

I didn't read the changelog, I was just going by the content listing
from the repository
(https://packages.ubuntu.com/bionic/amd64/icedtea-8-plugin/filelist),
which still lists the file.

I was having trouble getting an embedded java application in a BMC web-
interface to run, and this seemed like a possible culprit. I somehow
missed the whole NPAPI issue.

Thank you for the quick reply!

It affects Intel integrated GPUs too.

You can downgrade libmutter package temporarily as a workaround:

sudo apt install libmutter-6-0=3.36.1-3ubuntu3 gir1.2-mutter-6=3.36.1-3ubuntu3
sudo apt-mark hold libmutter-6-0

Remember to unhold after fix comes out!

[Bug 1860217] Re: dpkg-reconfigure clamav-daemon in infinite loop

2020-01-18 Thread Konrad K
** Description changed:

There appears to be another issue with
  > dpkg-reconfigure clamav-daemon

Like in #1792051, the command ends up in an infinite loop, just that
this time it happens between 'Log file for clamav-daemon' and 'Do you
want to enable log rotation?', with one more step between also included
  in the loop.

Purged and reinstalled the package with no effect.

  Effected package: clamav-daemon 0.102.1+dfsg-0ubuntu0.19.10.2 (arm64)
+
+ EDIT: I was able to reproduce the error on a different system (also
+ 0.102.1+dfsg-0ubuntu0.19.10.2, just amd64 instead)

[Bug 1813663] Re: External monitors does not work anymore 4.15.0-44

2019-01-30 Thread Konrad Klimczak
I also have this problem on my ThinkPad T470p with Pro Dock 40A1.

When I power on my laptop with connected dock, it's fine. I can log in
and work smoothly. The problem occurs when I lock my screen. Computer
freeze and I can do nothing. Only reset is a solution.

I attached logs before a reset.

What fixed that bug for me was simply doing this:
apt-get install -f

apt-get upgrade
apt-get update

apply 'sudo' at the beginning of each command if necessary

[Bug 1809156] Re: E1000 guest to host escape

2019-01-11 Thread Martin Konrad
The package seems to work correctly. Note however that I had to confirm
to downgrade when installing the package on cosmic. Turns out something
is wrong with the version numbers in the changelog file:

$ zgrep virtualbox /usr/share/doc/virtualbox/changelog.Debian.gz | head -3
virtualbox (5.2.18-dfsg-2~ubuntu18.04.2) bionic-security; urgency=medium
virtualbox (5.2.18-dfsg-2~ubuntu18.04.1) bionic; urgency=medium
virtualbox (5.2.18-dfsg-2) unstable; urgency=medium

$ dpkg --compare-versions 5.2.18-dfsg-2~ubuntu18.04.1 lt
5.2.18-dfsg-2~ubuntu18.04.2  && echo OK || echo NOK
OK
$ dpkg --compare-versions 5.2.18-dfsg-2 lt 5.2.18-dfsg-2~ubuntu18.04.1 && echo
OK || echo NOK
NOK
$ dpkg --compare-versions 5.2.18-dfsg-2 lt 5.2.18-dfsg-2~ubuntu18.04.2 && echo
OK || echo NOK
NOK

Seems like this mistake crept into the previous version. We probably
can't fix the previous version number anymore but I would suggest to use
5.2.18-dfsg-3~ubuntu18.14.1 for this release to ensure the package
actually gets installed on our user's machines.

[Bug 1278223] Re: Mouse Flickering after adding 3rd Monitor

2018-10-29 Thread Konrad
same here, when monitor is plugged in I mouse coursor is flickering on
host display, additionally sometimes sites do not work correctly when on
screen 2, coursor is flickering too (but much less).

When I've tried to apply solution from #108 after the reboot the second
monitor was not detected at all, I had to revert back my settings.

Ran into this exact issue today myself, 2 years later

openvpn .conf file contains the line
"key-direction 1"

after importing the config file, the key-direction in the vpn profile in
the network manager is set to "none", resulting in timeouts when trying
to establish the connection.

Took me a while to find that...

[Bug 1510570] Re: Bluetooth LE pairing fail

2018-01-10 Thread Konrad Zapałowicz
** Description changed:

  [Impact]

When the Bluetooth adapter is not powered on it is not possible to use
it in normal way. We used to have a hack to force powering on by using
an udev rule but this doe snot work anymore. Luckily the BlueZ has
introduced "AutoEnable" option that makes the stack power on adapters by
  itself.

Backporting this to xenial will improve life of the desktop users and
will not require them to hack the solution on their own. The fix itself
uses the well known solution to this problem that is floating around
  there for a while.

The upload fixes the bug by enabling the 'AutoEnable' option in the
  bluetoothd config file.

  [Original Report]

. 15.10 we now have bluez 5 so we can pair BLE devices like the
  Microsoft Arc Touch Bluetooth Mouse.

But this pairing doesn't work very well. Mouse is seen but pairing fail.
  More information: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=104011#c5

This is due to udev rule that use "hcitool" to power on device.
Hopefully, bluez 5.35 has a new parameter "AutoEnable" who can be used
  instead of udev rules.

here is a commit with this parameter:
  http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~guilhem-fr/bluez/autoenable/revision/138

  [Test Case]

- Edit the /etc/bluetooth/main.conf and disable the 'AutoEnable' option.
- Remove file 50-bluetooth-hci-auto-poweron.rules located in
- /lib/udev/rules.d. Now reboot the machine. The BT adapter shall be
- powered off now.
+ On xenial install from ppa:
+
+ Now reboot the machine. The BT adapter shall be
+ powered on.

  [Regression Potential]

  [Test Case]

  On xenial install from ppa:
  https://launchpad.net/~bluetooth/+archive/ubuntu/bluez

Now reboot the machine. The BT adapter shall be
  powered on.

  [Regression Potential]

If things go wrong the adapter will not be powered on after the system
boots up. Therefore while testing please focus on the adapter state,
  i.e. powered on or off.

[Bug 1741607] [NEW] Software Boutique is broken on 18.04

2018-01-06 Thread Konrad Krawiec
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:
1. Launch Software Boutique from Ubuntu Mate 18.04 (you can use the live
session)
2. Click "Retrieve the latest software listings"
3. Go to the "Bulk Queue" and apply the changes
4. Check if any apps are available to install

Expected result:
Apps are listed and available to install.

Actual result:
There are no apps in the Software Boutique. What is more, apt/apt-get is broken
after doing these steps ("the repository
'http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-mate-dev/welcome/ubuntu bionic Release' does
not have a Release file").

[Bug 1740685] Re: Black screen after configuring the system (OEM install)

2018-01-02 Thread Konrad Krawiec
Ok, I've tried to do an OEM install again. I waited for about 30 minutes after
configuring the OS. Unluckily, nothing appeared. Then, I restarted the machine
and waited for over 15-20 minutes, but the only think I saw was a black screen.
Of course, it's possible that it's a problem on my side. I'd be really thankful
if anyone could try to do an OEM install of Kubuntu 18.04 and report the result
here!

By the way, I can switch to tty from this black screen and log in
without any problems.

[Bug 1740523] [NEW] Prompt value is set to "normal" instead of "lts" after upgrading to 18.04

2017-12-29 Thread Konrad Krawiec
Public bug reported:

I did an upgrade from Lubuntu 16.04.3 LTS and 17.10 to 18.04 LTS (using

[Bug 1510570] Re: Bluetooth LE pairing fail

2017-12-18 Thread Konrad Zapałowicz
Testing::

1. using the bluez without the patch

- reboot
- try to pair and connect

2. using bluez with patch

- reboot
- try to pair and connect

In some cases pairing and connecting works better with the patch
applied. There is no negative behavior observed with patch applied
compared to w/o the patch.

[Bug 1620636] Re: Fails to pair with Bose QC35 headphones

2017-11-30 Thread Konrad Zapałowicz
Hey,

I just have tried to pair the QC35 using bluez 5.42 and 5.46 and it did
pair. Could you capture HCI trace for me while you are pairing?

Type:

$ sudo btmon --write ~/bose-qc35.snoop

Then start searching for the headset and try to pair. Once pairing fails
kill the btmon and attach the .snoop file to this bug report.

Thanks.

The root cause of the disconnection has been identified as coming from

[Bug 405294] Re: A2DP Bluetooth audio skips terribly ["Skipping NNN us (= MMM bytes) in audio stream"]

2017-10-02 Thread Konrad Zapałowicz
Hey, let me chime in into the discussion.

First I'm terribly sorry to see that people are affected by this kind of issue.
I remember a similar one on Ubuntu Phone which we have finally tracked down to
the hardware side but were never able to fix completely.

Canonical as a company and we as a developers working on Ubuntu do actually care
about Bluetooth. Myself, Daniel and a few others formed an informal group that
meets regularly and strives to set the course for improvement. Believe me, we
would be delighted to see it working flawlessly because well... among other
reasons we also use Bluetooth devices on daily basis. However, sadly, it is not
that easy as the underlying technology itself is fairly complex and requires
both hardware, software and remote side to click in.

We are not searching for the white flag though :) this would be too easy.
Instead we plan our work in a way that we are able to take down issues and
gradually improve the overall experience. This is a step by step process where
we tackle problems one by one aiming for these that have the best chance to be
solved in order to deliver improvements with each cycle.

In this case the audio in under running, PulseAudio tries to catch up and this
is why you see skipped bytes messages. There might be multiple reasons for this
starting from PulseAudio (and it's Bluetooth modules), through bluez, system
load and such and ending on the hardware configuration itself. For example
hugely popular WiFi+BT combo chipsets are prone to such issues as Bluetooth and
WiFi have to compete for throughput.

If I were you I would start from reporting this issue to Pulse Audio developers
through their mailing list (perhaps also on bluez) and start working from there.
We do keep an eye on these so if there is something interesting coming up in the
discussions we will pick it up. We will also remember about this one and for an
upcoming bluez 5.47 testing we will include high-load tests to see if we can
even experience this issue (so far we did not) with the hardware we test with.
Does it make sense?

Hope that at some point in the near future we will learn enough about this one
so that we can fix it.

Hope this helps,
K

2017-05-08 Thread Konrad Zapałowicz

A few questions to make sure that I understand:

I have seen that you have added /dev/ttyAMA to the serial interface of
snapd. Any other changes on this side such as discussed previously
modifications to gadget snap?

Now you are also suggesting a unit that would hciattach to the desired
serial port node. Preferably shipped as a part of bluez snap.

[Bug 1442896] Re: Bluetooth mouse disconnects and reconnects every few seconds

2017-05-05 Thread Konrad Zapałowicz
@mcumpa could you post the syslog as well as HCI trace for your case?

1. syslog

Please enable the debug output first by typing:

$ sudo sed -i 's/bluetoothd/bluetoothd \-d/g'
/lib/systemd/system/bluetooth.service

2. HCI trace

Execute:

$ sudo btmon --write ~/hcitrace.snoop

before you start reproducing the issue [but might be after pairing to
limit the log size]. It is important not to make the test too long so
that the HCI trace is easier to read and understand.

[Bug 1565940] Re: bluetoothctl systematically hangs when there is no bluetooth hardware

2017-05-05 Thread Konrad Zapałowicz
Now I understand your use-case.

You probably could achieve similar with $ systemctl status
bluetooth.service. Also hcitool can tell if the adapter is up and
running but keep in mind that hcitool is depreciated and no longer
maintained by the upstream.

As for the man entry suggestion yes that could be something to consider
given that the default man page is quite vague nevertheless this, as
whole bluez, comes straight from the upstream.

[Bug 1565940] Re: bluetoothctl systematically hangs when there is no bluetooth hardware

2017-05-04 Thread Konrad Zapałowicz
I'm afraid that this is how the bluetoothctl is designed. This tool is a
command-line interface to the bluetoothd and requires it up and running.
It will not quit however when it is not running for a situations where
the daemon might come back online.

Ubuntu does not do anything special here, the bluetoothctl tool is
packaged as is from the upstream.

For Ubuntu this normally should not be a problem because a user is
expected to use {unity,gnome}-system-settings anyway to interact with BT
subsystem. Is there a particular use-case that is failing on this
behavior?

[Bug 1674509] Re: Unable to find bluetooth device on RPi3 running Ubuntu Core 16

2017-04-07 Thread Konrad Zapałowicz
@jdstrand @ogra

This depends on how the Bluetooth chip is wired on hardware level. If it
is using UART like in this case it all further depends on how the UARTs
are wired. It might be /dev/ttyAMA0 however it might also be /dev/ttyS0
or even /dev/bluetooth - whoever writes the driver has the luxury of
choosing.

Whatever we do here it will be only applicable for devices using
/dev/AMA0 for BT.

The definition shall be in the gadget snap then.

Hey, to everyone interested we are currently testing and reviewing an
improvement to PA that fixes problems with selecting A2DP mode for BT
headsets.

Right now it is being tested internally with good results for Sony
headsets, QC35 from Bose and BT speakers. Once it is in a silo/ppa I
will share this information for much wider testing. Then it will be
submitted as a SRU and will land in xenial.
