[Bug 1799946] Re: OpenJFX-11 does not work with OpenJDK-8
Personally, I have given up on that and moved to using sdkman (https://sdkman.io) for handling Java variants, this so far seems the best / most reliable way to get different Java versions (including 8.x series) to work on recent Linux distributions. Java packaging in Debian- based distributions always has been weird, and JavaFX and the changes related to the way it's supposed to be distributed don't make things easier here. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1799946 Title: OpenJFX-11 does not work with OpenJDK-8 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openjfx/+bug/1799946/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1799946] Re: OpenJFX-11 does not work with OpenJDK-8
> Although that works, its quite an hack. Can't we have something like > openjdk-8-jfx, > openjdk-8-jfx-source, openjdk-11-jfx, ... It should possibly "just" be consistent. JavaFX *always* depends upon a particular JDK. Either make different versions of openjfx available for different openjdks (if there are different openjdk packages), or add *just* one openjdk and one openjfx package where it's easy to, say, downgrade openjd from 11 to 8 and be sure the installed openjfx package will either have a broken dependency or be downgraded as well. Current approach to handle this seems pretty much worst of both worlds. :| -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1799946 Title: OpenJFX-11 does not work with OpenJDK-8 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openjfx/+bug/1799946/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Yes, but the suggested approach ("Would it be possible to supply an openjfx-8 package, similar to the openjdk-{8,11}-{jdk,jre}?") would both fix this problem and make versioning of the openjdk- and openjfx- packages (which, despite being separate packages, are pretty closely tied to each other) immensely more concise. ;) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1799946 Title: OpenJFX-11 does not work with OpenJDK-8 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openjfx/+bug/1799946/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1799946] Re: OpenJFX-11 does not work with OpenJDK-8
Stumbled into this problem here as well both with a couple of internal Java applications and some FLOSS apps such as mediathekview (https://mediathekview.de/) in Germany. Currently, Java 11 -> Java 8 downgrade or even installing both in parallel on any Ubuntu/Debian system works well, however for that to work with JavaFX applications it would be required to also be able to install different versions of openjfx - such as openjfx-11 for openjdk-11 and openjfx-8 for openjdk-8. Right now, the only working solution using the package repository is manually downgrading and pinning openjfx libs, which unfortunately also will prevent any option to provide updates to the openjfx-8 versions if ever needed.

Added myself to the list as I ended up with similar things. None of the workarounds worked, nevertheless. My system, however, is a bit older, already used to go through a migration step-wise from 6.06 across some intermediates to 10.04 (there's an enormously large mail spool on that drive so so far I hesitated to reinstall this one). db_dump / db_load failed complaining that the 4.7 files aren't compatible with a 5.1 environment (which seems berkelydb I guess); using db4.7_dump ends complaining that the data may be corrupted being moved without cleaning LSNs (whatever that means, I'm not a berkelydb expert). [Bug 347487] Re: starting virtual machine in virtualbox-ose freezes system
I am not sure whether this really is related to virtualbox or might be a kernel issue: In my environment, I managed to boot up any VM reliably after, in the VM configuration, disabling "VT-x/AMD-V" support (which is not really what one wants on a Core2 Duo that actually supports VT). However: - Switching VT-x/AMD-V on and trying to boot the VM reliably ends up in a complete system lockup (frozen UI, SysRq keys not working anymore, machine not ping'able via LAN anymore). - Switching off VT-x/AMD-V, the virtual machine comes up and seems to work as expected. So, overally, this is a workaround to at least get VMs in virtualbox-ose running again. - System: up-to-date jaunty build - Kernel: Linux n428 2.6.28-11-generic #38-Ubuntu SMP Fri Mar 27 09:00:52 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux -- starting virtual machine in virtualbox-ose freezes system https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/347487 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 347487] [NEW] starting virtual machine in virtualbox-ose freezes system
Public bug reported: Installed a jaunty testbed system on my machine (Tecra A8 notebook, Core2 Duo CPU, 2GB RAM). Tried both Sun VirtualBox and virtualbox-ose off the package repository, with the same result: Starting virtualbox works well, vbox* modules also seem loaded. However as soon as I try starting a virtual machine (no matter whether a newly created one or an existing one restored from backup), the virtual machine window appears and then the whole system immediately locks up inasmuch as that the GUI doesn't respond anymore, no mouse/keyboard interactions are possible anymore, and switching to any vt using ctrl+alt+f also doesn't work anymore. [Bug 200582] [NEW] hardy alpha6 installer: "cleaning" /usr/local mount?!
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ubiquity First installment of hardy-6 actually makes me use my backup for the first time in ages: Trying to have my old "/usr/local" partition already configured to be mounted while in the installer, installation seemed to "hang" a few moments showing a message resembling "cleaning conflicting operating system files", and indeed it took me a while to see the installer was actually "cleaning up" my /usr/local, which included removing files I manually put there, most notably /usr/local/data which is a place where I keep most of my not-user-specific files which are to survive reinstallations. Apart from whether or not putting anything vital to /usr/local is a good idea: Should the installer really bother trying to "clean" and remove files off /usr/local even while mounting this partition during the installation? I doubt this is a good idea, given the overall understanding of /usr/local being the "local" hierarchy... [Bug 63418] Re: CPU soft lockup during bootup
Not sure whether this is still of relevance; I've noticed the "soft lockup detected" message on my Toshiba Tecra A8 a couple of times this morning, leaving the machine unable to boot at all. It's a completely new install, first time Linux installation on that very machine, so I can't say whether or not it used to be different before. However, two things: - The notebook also is equipped with an ipw3945 based NIC, but obviously whether or not the "kill switch" is enabled doesn't matter much - at least the "BUG:" message appeared both having WLAN enabled and disabled, and the machine also managed to boot up cleanly most of the time both having WLAN dis- or enabled. - Not sure whether this is anyhow related to that issue, I see my kernel log being flooded with messages like this [17184770.548000] APIC error on CPU0: 40(40) [17184770.548000] APIC error on CPU1: 40(40) Kernel is Edgy 2.6.17-10-generic. [Bug 53333] Re: Database instance restart error
For what I have found out so far, MaxDB 7.5.00.* (same as 7.6.00.*) do per default rely upon LD_ASSUME_KERNEL in order to avoid some threading related issues (feel free to use the MaxDB mailing list archive or read here - http://www.mysqltalk.org/sap-db-not-working-on-redhat-phoebe-the- solution-vt71534.html - to see a few hints on that). Basically, it boils down to the following, comparing Dapper (where it works) and Edgy (where it doesn't work).
