[Bug 1880749] Re: Ubuntu 20.04: virtualenv: pep517 requires toml, but it isn't bundled in venvs

2021-06-02 Thread Laurens Coudeville
I'm not able to create a python 3.7 virtualenv on ubuntu20 with
python3-virtualenv 20.0.17-1ubuntu0.3 installed.

Downgrading to 20.0.17-1 did the job. Probably this issue is introduced
in this issue?

I've built python 3.7.10 from source because I'm running on a platform
that uses 3.7 instead of the built-in 3.8.

[Bug 1902749] Re: [amdgpu] Log in screen flashes on and off until I log in

2020-11-05 Thread Laurens
Also, when the laptop enters sleep mode after being inactive for a while
the screen flashes the same way, even on the desktop after i log in.
This can be fixed by changing the screen's refresh rate from 120hz to
48hz and then back to 120hz.

[Bug 1902749] Re: [amdgpu] Log in screen flashes on and off until I log in

2020-11-05 Thread Laurens
Thanks for the reply!

I tried your steps:
- When using wayland, the flashing also doesn't occur on the desktop
- Kernel 5.4.0-52 doesn't boot at all
- Kernel 5.8.4 does boot, but the flashing is still there

Editing the gdm3 config file however, did fix the flashing on the log in
screen. On both the 5.8 and 5.9 kernel

edit: it seems the config file didn't work 100% as some of the times the
log in screen still flashes. So this is better, at least, but still not
perfect.

[Bug 1902749] [NEW] Log in screen flashes on and off until I log in

2020-11-03 Thread Laurens
Public bug reported:

Im on Ubuntu 20.04.1 with an AMD Ryzen 7 4800h CPU and a Nvidia GTX
1650ti [Mobile] GPU using nvidia-driver-450

Kernel is up to date (5.9.3)

When my laptop boots, the log in screen flashes black and quickly back
on until i log in. When i reach the desktop the flashing stops. Still,
having the screen flickering on the log in screen is very annoying.

As far as i can tell, the laptop doesn't have any further screen issues.

Thanks in advance!

[Bug 1899049] [NEW] Internal microphone not detected

2020-10-08 Thread Laurens
Public bug reported:

Version: Ubuntu 20.04.01

My Tongfang PF5NU1G's internal microphone used to work on an older
kernel version (5.4) but since I've upgraded the kernel to 5.8+ due to
better support for AMD Renoir (Ryzen 7 4800H + Radeon Vega 8 graphics),
the internal mic stopped working.

I have also tried to use kernel version 5.6, but has the same problem.

The mic is selected in the settings menu as: Digital Microphone-Family
17h(Models 10h-1fh) HD Audio Controller

When i record audio with the default input source selected in Audacity,
it records a small static-like sound. The microphone does not detect any
input it seems.

Thanks in advance!

[Bug 1692714] [NEW] Unstable Wifi: re-Authentication fails after wifi drops and reconnects

2017-05-22 Thread Laurens Kils-Hütten
Public bug reported:

I see frequent disconnects due to reason=4, which would be o.k. if
reconnects worked fine. However often on reconnects 4-way handshake
times out and I'm prompted to re-enter our wifi pass-phrase, sometimes
as frequent as every few minutes - a major annoyance :-(

Problem seems to depend a bit on network traffic. However only my
notebook with ubuntu 17.04. seems to be affected. Two iphones, an
android phone and a chromebook seem to have no wifi problems at all.

Also, when I set up wls2 manually in /etc/network/interfaces I haven't
seen failed reconnects so far.

I have had this problem since 16.04. Various work arounds suggested on
the web like changing wifi channel, disabling IPv6, or disabling DHCP
haven't affected this problem.

[Bug 1463598] Re: Chromium 43 fails to use hardware acceleration

2015-07-20 Thread Laurens Bosscher
I'm also un-installing Chromium and installing Chrome.

I fully understand the reasons for disabling it by default but not
having an option to enable it really sucks, on my older machine I gladly
accept slightly less stability in exchange for usable performance.

[Bug 1435601] Re: [vivid] After resume, upower reports critically low battery

2015-05-13 Thread Laurens Rouw
I've also encountered this bug, first thinking it was a bug with the KDE
battery indicator applet. Upower is giving incorrect energy-full values
when this is happening. I've attached my 'upower -d' output from when
this is happening, you can see that the energy-full values are way to
high. Restarting the upower.service solves the problem.

[Bug 1278223] Re: Mouse Flickering after adding 3rd Monitor

2015-04-07 Thread Laurens Bosscher
Please see attached above my apport-collect -p xorg 1278223.

I can confirm the same problem as mentioned by the other users,
flickering of the cursor when it's not on the screen connected to the
USB display link adapter. I would be willing to do further debugging.

[Bug 1438179] [NEW] openvpn segfaults on startup with openvpn-auth-ldap

2015-03-30 Thread Laurens Post
Public bug reported:

Openvpn segfaults on start with the openvpn-auth-ldap plugin loaded.

This bug affects openvpn 2.3.2-7ubuntu3.1 with openvpn-auth-ldap
2.0.3-5.1 on i386.

The following line is used to load openvpn-auth-ldap:
plugin /usr/lib/openvpn/openvpn-auth-ldap.so /etc/openvpn/ldap.conf

/etc/openvpn/ldap.conf exists and is readable by the user running
openvpn.

[Bug 1419876] [NEW] ruby-gtk3 dependencies are broken for 2.2.0-5

2015-02-09 Thread Laurens Post
Public bug reported:

The package ruby-gtk3 currently depends on a couple of libraries, but
not on their ruby bindings, resulting in a LoadError when those bindings
have not been manually installed. The missing dependencies are: ruby-
atk, ruby-pango, ruby-gdk-pixbuf2. Please note that ruby-gtk2 does
properly depend on those packages.

2015-01-19 Thread Laurens Bosscher
I would like to further diagnose this problem unfortunately my desktop
broke down so I can't do any further debugging. Once I have a new PC
I'll see if I can recreate this same problem. Until then I can't do
anything.

I fixed this by removing upstart from my Ubuntu installation. I know
it's not the best solution but I finally got a working desktop again :)

I hope this helps in debugging this bug!

[Bug 1372187] Re: Desktop console-kit permissions (e.g shutdown, network, users) broken for all accounts after upgrade to 14.10

2014-10-18 Thread Laurens Bosscher
I managed to fix this bug by removing upstart. When I reinstall it the
bug comes back.

I know it's not a decent solution but I hope it helps you guys debug
this issue. I'm of course willing to do further debugging work.

This 7 page topic on the Ubuntu forums seems to have lots of users with the
same problem:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2246405

As far as I can see I only have the amd64 version of libpam-systemd
installed. Synaptics list these files as installed for the package
libpam-systemd :

/.

/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu
/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/security

/usr/share/man
/usr/share/man/man8
/usr/share/man/man8/pam_systemd.8.gz
/usr/share/pam-configs

Just to be sure I ran:

sudo apt-get remove libpam-systemd:i386 and libsystemd-login0:i386
sudo apt-get remove libpam-modules:i386 libpam-cap:i386

The output was as following:

[Bug 1382804] [NEW] gnome-control-center hangs when bluetooth visibility is toggled while bluetooth is turned off

2014-10-18 Thread Laurens Post
Public bug reported:

When the discoverable control is enabled while the killswitch is enabled, the
control center will hang until the dbus in libgnome-bluetooth times out. This
is documented behaviour of bluez.
The attached patch will make the control center check for the power state
before toggling visibility. If the killswitch is enabled, it will be disabled
before visibility is enabled.

[Bug 1377727] Re: Desktop permissions (e.g shutdown, network, users) broken for all accounts after upgrade to 14.10

2014-10-07 Thread Laurens Bosscher
It seems that I have policykit-desktop-privileges installed:

laurens@laurens-desktop:~$ dpkg --list test.txt
laurens@laurens-desktop:~$ cat test.txt | grep 'policykit-desktop-privileges'
ii policykit-desktop-privileges 0.19
all run common desktop actions without password

I've also checked it in Synaptic and it also showed it as installed.

I've attached my /etc/pam.d/common-session file. It seems that I have
the required line. If there's anything else I can do or a debug guide I
can follow I'll be happy to spend some time on this.

2014-10-05 Thread Laurens Bosscher
I recently learned that Ubuntu switched to logind and that console-kit
is no longer used so I think this bug can be moved or deleted. I'll try

Output of loginctl list-sessions shows at least something as active.

   SESSIONUID USER SEAT
c1110 lightdm seat0
c2 1000 laurens seat0

2 sessions listed.

[Bug 1377727] [NEW] Desktop permissions (e.g shutdown, network, users) broken for all accounts after upgrade to 14.10

2014-10-05 Thread Laurens Bosscher
Public bug reported:

I reported this bug before as Bug #1372187 but it has been brought to my
attention that Ubuntu switched from console-kit to logind after the
13.10 release.

1. System worked without any problems under 14.04
2. Upgrade to 14.10
3. Upgrade went without any problems
4. Notice that standby has disappeared from the gears menu
5. notice that I cannot disconnect or change the network connection (exact
error is: (32) Not authorized to control networking.)
6. I can't see, change or unlock setting under Settings User accounts
7. Running dbus-send --system --print-reply --dest=org.freedesktop.ConsoleKit
/org/freedesktop/ConsoleKit/Manager org.freedesktop.ConsoleKit.Manager.Stop
from the terminal results in the error: Error
org.freedesktop.ConsoleKit.Manager.NotPrivileged: Not Authorized
8. Running sudo pam-auth-update --force doesn't solve any errors
9. Creating a new user account (sudo adduser) and switching to the account
results in the same permission problems.

Output of:

laurens@laurens-desktop:~$ loginctl list-sessions
   SESSION UID USER SEAT
c1 110 lightdm seat0
c2 1000 laurens seat0

2 sessions listed.

Sudo works as expected so I can help to further debug this problem and
provide relevant information. Unfortunately I have very limited
experience with Logind and PAM so I hope I have reported this to the
right package.

If someone could point me in the right direction (wiki, man page,
tutorial) I would be more than happy to see if I can see what went wrong
and if I can debug this myself.

[Bug 1372187] Re: Desktop console-kit permissions (e.g shutdown, network, users) broken for all accounts after upgrade to 14.10

work.

Logout and switching users still seems to work as expected so it seems
that I have lot all permissions to influence the machine outside of my
local user account?

[Bug 1156475] Re: [ASRock 970 Extreme4] suspend/resume failure [non-free: fglrx]

2013-03-19 Thread Laurens Bosscher
I updated to the 3.9 kernel but:

1) I can't install FGLRX
2) Unity doesn't load with the radeon driver (so no GUI :()
3) My media keys (including the standby button) don't work

So I can't test the standby functionality with this kernel it seems. I
remember that Ubuntu used to have a failback option but I can't seem to
find it on the new 13.04 login panel.

I can open the terminal with CTRL + ALT + T and run programs this way.

I'm going to uninstall this kernel for now.

After a reboot Unity didn't seem to looad either.

dconf reset -f /org/compiz/

and

setsid unity

I'm going to give it a new try when I have more time available. That
will probably be later this week.

[Bug 1068662] Re: webapps are not working :(

2013-02-19 Thread Laurens Bosscher
I have this issue on two computers, both upgraded from 12.04 to 12.10.
I've mostly given up hope on ever running webapps at all but recently I
discovered some new stuff.

1) Creating an syslink in /usr/local/share/ to /usr/share/unity-webapps/
seems to work. This is even after purging a all possible packages that
are related to webapps!

Even after doing this I still can't run any webapps but the Twitter
webapps keep showing up, even after I removed the package. My guess is
that somehow older configuration stuff from the PPA is still on my
system and is looking at the older files.

Does AMD plan to release quarterly updates for the FGLRX driver (as it
does with Windows) or is this the end of the line for the (still quite

[Bug 755066] Re: heavy i/o on sandybridge systems with small memory footprints causes system hangs

2011-06-07 Thread Laurens Bosscher
I have the same problem on a sandybridge XPS15 laptop with 4 GB ram. It
almost exclusively happens when Dropbox is synchronizing files and it's
very annoying.

So I guess it's not just limited to devices with an low amount of
memory.

I can confirm that the mainline build 2.6.38.3 resolves this issue for

When will 2.6.38.3 get in to the natty repositories?

[Bug 620028] Re: Wubi installs but no Ubuntu entry in Grub

2010-12-11 Thread Laurens-Jan
I've the same issue. I try to reinstall and I'm sure that I haven't clicked on
next, I still don't have the boot option.
Is it possible that this also happens when you have no internet connection?
I've een HTPC with a wireless connection. During the ubiquity there is no
connection avaible. I can't confirm it, because I can't get my HTPC to a wired
connection.

[Bug 657970] [NEW] No picture and name displayed

2010-10-10 Thread Laurens Bosscher
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: indicator-me

Problems are :

-No pictures is displayed (picture is selected in Gnome-about-me)
-No full name is displayed

These are not major problems but make it look ugly and did work under
10.04. Please see attached screenshot.

Version installed is : 0.2.10-0ubuntu1 (and i'm running 10.10), I've
tried an complete remove (of the package) and reinstall but this did not
fix the problem.

I have removed evolution from the past (Gnome-about-me stores the data
in the evolution addresbook, right?) but i've reinstalled it a while
ago. My picture and name are displayed correctly in evolution and gnome-
about-me.

[Bug 540280] Re: openssh (or gvfs) asks for a password everytime I change directory in sftp

2010-07-27 Thread Laurens
This Bug can be reproduced as Reiner Jung in comment #11 describes.
Before marking this bug as fixed I uninstalled nautilus-bzr and didn't
notice that it was just because of that.

Steps to reproduce:
1. sudo apt-get install nautilus-bzr
2. killall nautilus
3. Open any sftp folder. ssh wrongly asks tree times for the password.

To let the bug disappear:
4. sudo apt-get remove nautilus-bzr
5. killall nautilus
6. Open any sftp folder. Now ssh won't ask for a password.
And everything works as before

[Bug 292963] Re: gvfs should have udf support

2010-06-19 Thread Laurens Van Houtven
Find an UDF image (any DVD or BR ISO will do). Double click the Archive
mounter (not sure if this step is Ubuntu specific). A virtual device
gets added, just like you'd expect for an ISO9660 image. However, it
fails silenty: there are no files to be seen on the device even though
the UDF image is perfectly well-formed.

mount -o loop knows how to do the right thing.
