[Bug 271895] Re: update f-spot to 0.5
Even though it introduces new features, it still fixes a lot of bugs of the current version in Intrepid. Also f-spot is the default photo management software in Ubuntu and therefore should be as feature-rich as possible. For new features especially the new sidebar and the reworked editors seem interesting, as they will make it even easier to quickly edit pictures. The editors are already pretty useful and if they were even better in 0.5 users would not have to start a huge editing programm like Gimp for just a quick red-eye-removal or color adjustment in general. Also color profile support seems pretty cool since usually pictures on the monitor screen look bright and natural, but if you print them paper they look not too brilliant. Color structures correct the image in view of physical opportunities of devices of a conclusion. So it is is possible to facilitate the life of users and present them too more functionality with adding the support of color profiles in f-spot. (taken from: http://code.google.com/soc/2008/gnome/appinfo.html?csaid=1EF7F7EDFE7E57BE ) This seems pretty urgent for anybody who wants to print out those really cool pictures just taken with the new camera and especially a DSLR. I am sorry that my skills are not enough to provide the diffstat here, but nontheless I would really give f-spot 0.5 a warm welcom to Intrepid since users will generally benefit from a more polished version of the default photo management programm in Ubuntu. But there is no sound at all, extra keys (volume up and down, etc) do not work. Wireless (ipw2100) is recognized just fine and totally out-of-the-box. Also desktop-effects work perfectly (Intel i810) I really hope this helps somehow and this can be fixed in time. [Bug 83290] Re: kernel 2.6.20-6 problem on asus centrino with kubuntu feisty herd 3, acpi=off partial solved
I can confirm this. Booting with no further options stops with: [46.459412] setting up standard pci resources [46.025857] ACPI: Looking for DSDT in initramfs... error, file /DSDT.aml not found Setting the acpi=off option leaves me with: [61.882778] Uniform CD-ROM driver Revision: 3.20 [74.972749] end request I/O error, dev fd0, sector 0 systems hangs here for about 2 minutes or so continuing with: [147.138743] squashfs: version 3.2-r2 and then stops with: [269.307435] udevd-event [6064]: run_program: '/sbin/modprobe' abnormal exit and thats it. No boot at all. I hope this helps. There is another bug I contribute to and I think it has something to do with this since DSDT is involved there too. https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-source-2.6.20/+bug/83544 I hope this helps somehow and feisty will happen for us, who suffer from this bug, too. -- kernel 2.6.20-6 problem on asus centrino with kubuntu feisty herd 3, acpi=off partial solved https://launchpad.net/bugs/83290 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 83544] Re: custom DSDT loading patch needed in feisty
Tried the daily build from today again, but no luck. :-( Wrote something about it here: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-source-2.6.20/+bug/83290 Since I think those two bugs go hand in hand. Keep up the good work guys even if this bug prevents me from being able to use feisty I'm still confident that it will rock for others. -- custom DSDT loading patch needed in feisty https://launchpad.net/bugs/83544 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 83544] Re: custom DSDT loading patch needed in feisty
As I just noticed that this is marked as Fix Released... It is not working with the daily build from today. It is not even booting with the acpi=off option actually. :-( Just wnated to let you guys know, since the Feisty-Beta is around the corner (2 days) already. Not trying to bother anyone... well maybe a little bit. ;-) -- custom DSDT loading patch needed in feisty https://launchpad.net/bugs/83544 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 83544] Re: feisty kernel 2.6.20-6-generic does not contain DSDT patch as dapper and edgy did
Just for the record on my Asus M2400N Centrino Laptop besides the problem with the extra keys, there is no sound, suspend, hibernate either. I guess that is due to the acpi=off boot option. I also really hope this gets fixed soon so I'll be able to test Fesity. I never encountered these problems during the test versions of Breezy, Dapper and Edgy. Everything worked fine in those versions. -- feisty kernel 2.6.20-6-generic does not contain DSDT patch as dapper and edgy did https://launchpad.net/bugs/83544 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 83290] Re: kernel 2.6.20-6 problem on asus centrino with kubuntu feisty herd 3, acpi=off partial solved
I can confirm this! On my Asus M2400N Laptop (1.5 GHz Centrino, 512 MB RAM) the kernel only boots if put acpi=off as a parameter on boot. If acpi=off is not set the grey box with loading the Linux kernel appears for a couple of seconds, then disappears and the machine reboots. Having set acpi=off the Desktop-CD boots just fine and everything seems to work (except extra keys (but I haven't played around with that yet). I am actually typing this being online with the Desktop CD. If any further information is needed just let me know. ** Attachment added: dmesg output http://librarian.launchpad.net/6446936/dmesg%20acpi%3Doff -- kernel 2.6.20-6 problem on asus centrino with kubuntu feisty herd 3, acpi=off partial solved https://launchpad.net/bugs/83290 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 85539] No drivers for Brother MFC-5440CN printer even though they are GPL
Public bug reported: There are no drivers included in Feisty Herd 4 for Brother's MFC-5440CN Printer/Scanner/Copier/Fax even though Brother itself provides drivers for this machine (and others) as .deb-Packages and licensed under the GPL on their wedsite. http://solutions.brother.com/Library/sol/printer/linux/rpmfiles/lpr_debian/mfc5440cnlpr-1.0.2-1.i386.deb http://solutions.brother.com/Library/sol/printer/linux/rpmfiles/cups_wrapper/cupswrappermfc5440cn_1.0.0-1_i386.deb They work fine under Edgy using this tutorial (only German, sorry) http://micha.monsteradmin.de/archives/104-Brother-MFC-5440CN-unter- Ubuntu.html Also the MFC-5440CN is not detected as a Scanner out-of-the-box.
