[Bug 1850275] Re: English-Europe locale missing

2019-10-29 Thread Luca Ciavatta
@vorlon I understand what you said and I already found different working
workarounds. But as stated it is a missing thing useful to many people
and it could be solved providing locales for en_IT, en_DE, en_SE, en_NE,
etc. as suggested on upstream discussion or providing a generic en_EU
locale suitable for all the European countries that don't have English
as the primary language.

This is only a suggested feature, I can work with Ubuntu using a
workaround as I did till today. And also others.

[Bug 1850275] [NEW] English-Europe locale missing

2019-10-29 Thread Luca Ciavatta
Public bug reported:

Hello. I'm not reporting a 'bug', perhaps a missing feature.
I try to explain it. I would like to use my system with Italian locale and the
English language, but it seems not considered. Usually, I choose English for
language and Ireland for Time/Date/Currency and it works; but I'm wondering why
it isn't contemplated the use of the English language for Italian users.

At least, why don't we insert English-Europe locale settings like in
Windows systems?

Sorry for bothering and I hope that I explained well what I mean.
Thanks in advance for the time on it. Cheers.

In my case, if I use the 'Open With Other Application' option (also if I
select the same app of the 'Open With App' option), it works.

Still not working with the double-click or with 'Open With App' option.

[Bug 1721704] [NEW] Printer settings stuck on loading drivers database

2017-10-06 Thread Luca Ciavatta
Public bug reported:

1) Description: Ubuntu Artful Aardvark (development branch)
   Release: 17.10
2) ubuntu-settings:
   Installed: 17.10.17
   Candidate: 17.10.17
3) The printer configuration goes fine and I can print
4) Printer settings stuck on loading drivers database and finally no drivers
list available. Only 'cancel' button active.

Note: I'm trying to configure a Brother HL-2030 connected to Network
through a FritzBox 7940 router. The printer works fine both on Fedora
and macOS X systems. I opened 'System Settings', then select 'Devices' >
'Printers' > 'Add a Printer'. I entered the router address and the
window shows me correctly a 'JetDirect-Printer' on 192.168.178.1. I
selected the printer and pressed the 'Add' button, a window 'Select
Printer Driver' appears and stuck with 'Loading drivers database...'.
After about 2 minutes, stopped loading and remains blank. No drivers
selection is available and I can only push the 'Cancel' button.

Tried this (a mix of above workarounds) and it worked for the first use
of the SD card reader, but if remove the card and put it in again, it
isn't recognized. I must do this workaround one more time to make sd
card reader working again.

1. Add following to /etc/rc.local:
   setpci -s 00:1c.2 0x50.B=0x41

2. Add to /etc/apm/resume.d/21aspm:
   setpci -s 00:1c.2 0x50.B=0x41

3. Add to /etc/modprobe.d/sdhci:
   options sdhci debug_quirks2=4

I confirm this bug.
I visited some local PC stores (middle-sized city in Italy) and I attempted to
buy a machine without any proprietary software.

All the computers on sale had proprietary software.

[Bug 1497905] Re: Unable to boot live 15.10 on MacBook Pro 8,2

2016-12-07 Thread Luca Ciavatta
Trying different way to install Ubuntu 16.04 and 16.10 on MacBook Pro
with AMD Radeon and got issues.

Actually, I can boot live and install only with the follows in grub:
outb 0x728 1
outb 0x710 2
outb 0x740 2
outb 0x750 0

So, Ubuntu only works with Radeon GPU disabled (external monitor not
works) and I must modify the grub to have a working installation and
losing discrete GPU.

[Bug 1517046] Re: Unable to set 1920x1080 resolution in Ubuntu 16.04 as a VMWare Fusion guest

2015-11-17 Thread Luca Ciavatta
I found a workaround.
In a terminal:
xrandr --newmode "1920x1080" 173.00 1920 2048 2248 2576 1080 1083 1088 1120
-hsync +vsync
xrandr --addmode Virtual1 1920x1080
xrandr --output Virtual1 --mode 1920x1080

And the display is set to the correct resolution and all works fine.
The problem is when I restart the system, I have an error window with:

Could not apply the stored configuration for monitors
none of the selected modes were compatible with the possible modes:
CRTC 63: Trying modes for . with output at 1920x1080@60hz (pass 0)

CRTC 63: Trying modes for 800x600@60hz with output at 1920x1080@60hz (pass 1)

and the monitor starts with 800x600 resolution.

So, I did again the commands of above and the resolution go fine to
1920x1080.

Unable to boot the live and screen shows the same issues.

If I boot the USB normally, the boot stopped at [6.9] with "i8042: No

If I boot removing "quite splash" from grub, the boot stopped at [7.3] with
"fb: switching radeonfmfb from EFI VGA" issue.
If I boot removing "quite splash" and adding "nomodeset" in grub, the boot
stopped after a couple of minutes on "Started WPA supplicant" and after

I'm trying to test Ubuntu 15.10 (http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-

virtual machine. Installation process has gone well and I can start the

comes. In the login screen, I can insert the password but after I did
the screen stuck and I can only the icon to shutdown or restart the
system. I have also tried to enter as guest, but the result is the same.
Moreover the key combinations ctrl+alt+F1, F2, F7 gave me only to a
black screen with a flashing cursor and no terminal shell. I have tried
to change some value on the vm configuration, but nothing happens.

On boot process, the screen shows:

[Bug 1497905] [NEW] Unable to boot live 15.10 on MacBook Pro 8,2

2015-09-21 Thread Luca Ciavatta
Public bug reported:

I wanted to test Ubuntu 15.10 from live USB on a MacBook Pro 8,2 with Radeon HD
6770M.
Currently, the machine has installed Ubuntu 15.04 with Radeon disabled in grub
and works well. I have installed this booting the live USB of Ubuntu 15.04
through a 'nomodeset' command in grub options. I'm looking to do the same to
testing live the 15.10, but it seems not work.

If I boot the USB normally, the boot stopped at [6.9] with "i8042: No
controller found" issue.
If I boot removing "quite splash" from grub, the boot stopped at [7.3] with
"fb: switching radeonfmfb from EFI VGA" issue.
If I boot removing "quite splash" and adding "nomodeset" in grub, the boot
stopped after a couple of minutes on "[ OK ] Started WPA supplicant".

[Bug 1338492] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGABRT in OsAbort()

2015-09-12 Thread Luca Ciavatta
On my Ubuntu 15.04 over a MacBook Pro 8.2, this error appears trying to make
Radeon GPU working. This machine, actually, works only with Intel graphics and
with the Radeon disable by this trick in the grub:
 outb 0x728 1
 outb 0x710 2
 outb 0x740 2
outb 0x750 0 #this disable discrete Radeon gpu graphics

Unable to work with Radeon only or with Hybrid graphics. Also with
nomodeset the system boot into a black screen.

[Bug 1158432] Re: On graphical login, Network Manager window gets in the way

2015-05-09 Thread Luca Ciavatta
Same issue on Ubuntu 15.04 with a wifi network having a WPA WPA2 personal
security.
I have tried many things: remove the connection e add again, remove the
password keyring and add again, make connection not for all users and more, but
no one is the solution.
