[Bug 887821] Re: "Show copy dialog" right click launcher entry doesn't work (on nautilus copy)

2014-05-15 Thread Marcus E
I believe this issue still exists today in a fully updated 13.10.

nautilus --version
GNOME nautilus 3.8.2

unity --version
unity 7.1.2

The copy progress window seldom or never appears on my install neither
on the desktop nor in alt-tab super-1. Not on any of the four virtual
desktop spaces either. The right-click show copy window (or whatever it
says on English-language installs) does not do anything. This has on
several occasions made me think the copying was finished so I deleted
the source files and only found out about my misstake after being
greeted with the "error while copying" dialog window when the file that
is apparently being copied has been removed.

Interestingly enough the side-bar seems to appear and shake the file
manager icon when the copying has finished, not sure how useful that is
on its own though, and I don't know if that notification stays on screen
if I am AFK or just looking away for a moment.

Also copying seems to be very taxing on my computer -(i7 CPU with
samsung 530 SSD) the UI becomes somewhat unresponsive while copying
large files to backup USB-disks. This could possibly affect the main
issue of the progress window not being displayed.

[Bug 646293] Re: usb connected cd/dvd drive not showing up in Nautilus despite being in dmesg

2011-06-26 Thread Marcus E
Same problem here, the drive does not mount or spin up inserted discs.
Can be done manually though with the command "udisks --mount /dev/sr1".
This is on linux mint katya with 2.6.38-8-generic.

[Bug 532984] Re: GLIb-WARNING **: getpwid_r(): failed due to unknown user id (0)

2010-11-09 Thread Marcus E
This happened frequently on my 10.04 install but far from on every
start. Now with encrypted home on a fresh install of 10.10 on another
laptop the error comes up on every start, which means the OS is
practically unusable.

[Bug 671700] Re: Ubiquity at install must warn when an invalid user name is entered

2010-11-06 Thread Marcus E
The installer does not warn the user when a non-usable user name is
entered on the "who are you" screen, nor does it show information about
its requirements, instead it just refused to continue by not activiating
the "forward" button which makes the text "ready when you are" seem like
somewhat of a joke. This is in the 10.10 live desktop installer.

[Bug 615285] Re: Cannot boot newer kernels (Ubuntu 10.10 alpha3): "No init found"

2010-10-05 Thread Marcus E
Sorry for spamming up the thread, but I am glad I found this thread
after cursing over why the 10.10 RC won't boot up on my netbook after
using unetbootin in 10.04 to copy the iso to a usb stick.

[Bug 383443] Re: vlc stops playing flac file

2010-05-28 Thread Marcus E
Ubuntu 10.04, VLC 1.0.6 from the repos, same or related problem. FLAC playback
stops in the middle of a certain track, same thing every time, two minutes into
the song.
Playback quality with VLC has generally degraded since 9.10 with stuttering
occuring now and then which never used to happen before.
