[Bug 1871030] Re: There's no Option to Disable the Startup of KDEConnect

2022-05-13 Thread Marcus Sundman
Nothing should just respawn failing processes continuously within a
short span of time. Once the kdeconnect service crashes, what is causing
it to launch again immediately? Whatever it is needs to be smarter about
things, to avoid respawning the same crashing service millions, or even
hundreds, of times per hour.

[Bug 1376838] [NEW] The cpufreq indicator doesn't work with intel_pstate

2014-10-02 Thread Marcus Sundman
Public bug reported:

After upgrading from 3.13 (trusty) to 3.16 (utopic) most cpufreq stuff have
vanished.
$ cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_available_governors
performance powersave
$ cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_driver
intel_pstate
$ cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_max_freq
260
$ cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_governor
performance
$ sudo cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/cpuinfo_cur_freq
2291679
$ cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/cpuinfo_max_freq
260
$

I suppose this is because of the transition to intel_pstate. However,
the frequencies seem to be wrong. I'm pretty sure the max freq used to
be less than 200, and when entering performance mode the cpu ran at
something like 1,8 GHz.

However, both /proc/cpuinfo and
/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu*/cpufreq/cpuinfo_cur_freq report something
(wrong as it seems), but the cpufreq indicator always shows the cpu to
run at lowest possible speed.

[Bug 971061] Re: acpi reports battery state incorrectly

2014-02-19 Thread Marcus Sundman
Mattia, you need the samsung_fix_ec_events program in addition to the
script which calls that program. You can also run the program manually
(after compiling it of course):

$ gcc -o samsung_fix_ec_events samsung_fix_ec_events.c
$ sudo ./samsung_fix_ec_events
EmbeddedController GPE events flushed. New events can be produced now.

[Bug 793450] Re: Calendar doesn't show today's date until opened a second time today

Mine now isn't updating even if I close and re-open the menu. The title
correctly says it's January 2nd 2014, but the calendar shows December 2013 and
highlights December 29th. Is this the same bug, or another related to the year
switching? Or maybe a combination of both?

[Bug 950490] Re: External microphone does not work on Zenbook UX31

2012-04-19 Thread Marcus Sundman
Yes, it is a 4-pin headset jack. I can use both the headphone and the
mic simultaneously.

Adding the line
options snd-hda-intel model=laptop-dmic
to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf solved the issue for me, at least partly. I
now only have 1 microphone, but it auto-switches between the external one and
the internal one depending on whether I have an external mic plugged in or not.

It would be nice to be able to use the internal mic sometimes even when
the external one is connected, but it's also quite acceptable to have it
this way.

So, do you still need me to try the hda-jack-retask thingy?

[Bug 835414] Re: package gnome-colors-common 5.5.1-1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2

2012-01-26 Thread Marcus Sundman
It seems that the postinst tries to add some symlinks to directories
that don't exist. The fix should be very easy, so I don't know why this
is still unresolved.

Anyway, here is a workaround (run as root):

for d in $(ls /usr/share/icons/gnome-colors-common/*/places | sed -rn
's,^.*/([0-9]+x[0-9]+)/.*$,\1,p'); do mkdir -p
/usr/share/icons/gnome/$d/places; done

[Bug 742052] Re: Broken package in 11.04 Depends: ghc6 ( 6.12.1+)

2011-04-26 Thread Marcus Sundman
Well, we certainly need some working version of haskell-platform in
natty. Of course 2011.x would be nice (GHC7 has been in debian since
January), but I guess that will only show up in natty-backports. We
still need a working version in non-backport-natty as well, though, so
we can't wait for #711366 if that would mean waiting for half a year.

[Bug 681727] Re: linux-backports-modules-wireless-maverick-generic not available for kernel 2.6.35-23

2010-12-09 Thread Marcus Sundman
The thing is, apparently linux-backports-modules-wireless-maverick-
generic has been replaced by a missing package. The linux-backports-
modules-wireless-maverick-generic package was the one to install to make
it always get the newest linux-backports-modules-
wireless-version-generic (e.g. linux-backports-modules-
wireless-2.6.35-22-generic):

$ apt-cache rdepends linux-backports-modules-wireless-2.6.35-22-generic
linux-backports-modules-wireless-2.6.35-22-generic
Reverse Depends:
  linux-backports-modules-wireless-maverick-generic
$

However, now that linux-backports-modules-wireless-2.6.35-22-generic has
been replaced by linux-backports-modules-compat-
wireless-2.6.36-2.6.35-23-generic there is no such package:

$ apt-cache rdepends
linux-backports-modules-compat-wireless-2.6.36-2.6.35-23-generic
linux-backports-modules-compat-wireless-2.6.36-2.6.35-23-generic
Reverse Depends:
$

*That* is what this bug report is about.

[Bug 465734] [NEW] Up keyboard shortcut doesn't work anymore

2009-10-30 Thread Marcus Sundman
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xine-ui

OK, this is a weird one. [Up] is assigned to increment playback speed
in the keymap editor of xine (xine-ui 0.99.5+cvs20070914-2.1 in karmic),
but pressing the up key doesn't increase the playback speed. Pressing
Down decreases playback speed (which is what it's assigned to). If I
assign e.g. [y] to increment playback speed then it works with the Y
key, but if I reassign it to [Up] then it doesn't work with the Up key.
It's obvious the Up key works, since xine's keymap editor recognizes it
when I press Grab, and the Up key works in all other apps, too. And the
Up key isn't assigned to anything else also (at least not according to
xine's keymap editor, which complains if I try to assign the Up key to
more than one action).

[Bug 119417] Re: Pointer goes offscreen on non-rectangular dual-head

2009-05-07 Thread Marcus Sundman
** Description changed:

On a non-rectangular multi-monitor layout (e.g. when using monitors with
different resolutions) the mouse pointer can be positioned outside the
  areas displayed by the monitors.

My preferred multi-head layouts are ones where the viewports touch only
at the corner. (E.g., if you have two 800x600 displays then you have a
virtual screen of 1600x1200 where the viewport of one display is in
the top left part and the viewport of the other display is in the bottom
right part.) This keeps stuff att the viewport borders still fast to
access (you know, fitt's law and how things at the border have infinite
width/height, enabling things such as Opera's panel toggle etc). This
layout works very well on other OSes, but on Ubuntu widgets along the
borders are annoyingly easy to miss because the pointer overshoots off
  the screen so easily.

(I think the proprietary ati driver has an option to keep the pointer
within the bounds of the monitors' viewports, but I have only nvidia
- cards myself so I can't confirm this.)
+ cards myself so I can't confirm this. However, even if one driver has
+ implemented a workaround for this deficiency doesn't mean it should be
+ implemented at the driver level.)

Information on how to fix a bug is not something a bugreport inherently

be incomplete.

[Bug 175191] Re: f-spot changes timestamp in an incorrect way

2008-11-18 Thread Marcus Sundman
I believe we have actually two bugs here:
1) some dates aren't converted correctly when displayed, and
2) the EXIF DateTimeOriginal is modified even though f-spot should never modify
it automatically.

Now, 1 is annoying but not really that bad, whereas 2 is what corrupts
the user's data and is thus quite bad.

[Bug 299279] [NEW] kaffeine can't use pulseaudio

2008-11-17 Thread Marcus Sundman
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kaffeine

I have set Settings-xine Engine Parameters-audio-driver to
pulseaudio. When I try to play something it always says: Can't init
Audio Driver 'pulseaudio' - trying 'auto'... It says the same thing
when I select Settings-xine Engine Parameters.

No other programs have problems with pulseaudio. E.g., I've configured
both xine and audacious to use pulseaudio and I have no problems running
two xine instances and one audacious instance at the same time, and all
three are playing their sound just fine. But kaffeine can't use
pulseaudio even when no other program (as I'm aware of) is using it.
Since xine can use pulseaudio while kaffeine using xine can't it seems
that the bug is in kaffeine.

[Bug 123492] Re: Most applications can't access Connect to Server mounts

2008-05-13 Thread Marcus Sundman
Ross, that's not how it's supposed to work. However, it doesn't work the
way it's supposed to work either. E.g., if do I Places - Connect to
Server... - SSH, and then try to open the file with xine (using
nautilus) then the correct path is used (~/.gvfs/sftp on ...), but if I
try to open the file with vlc (again using nautilus) then the wrong
(gvfs-aware) path is used (sftp://...). There seems to be some problem
with detecting which apps are gvfs-aware and which need the gvfs-fuse-
path.

[Bug 178728] Video is shown on top of a locked screen

2007-12-26 Thread Marcus Sundman
Public bug reported:

When an xv video window is open and the screen is locked the video often shows
through on my laptop.
Steps:
1. Configure the power options to not do anything when closing the lid of the
laptop.
2. Open a video in (g)xine/vlc/whatever that uses xv.
3. Lock the screen. (Now the screen goes blank (the screensaver is configured
to be a blank screen).)
4. Close the lid. (This should switch off the power from the screen, making the
screen completely black.)
5. Open the lid. (Now the video (paused or playing) is shown on top of the
blank screen.)

My setup:
- integrated Intel 945GM/GMS/GME

[Bug 119417] Re: Pointer goes offscreen on non-rectangular dual-head

2007-12-05 Thread Marcus Sundman
Yes, it is. I'm using TwinView which has its own xinerama
implementation. (AFAIK TwinView is the only way to make dual-head work
properly (e.g., with 2D acceleration) with nvidia cards.) Here is the
TwinView MetaMode line I'm currently using:

Option MetaModes CRT-0: 1600x1200 @1600x1200 +1280+0, DFP-0:
1280x1024 @1280x1024 +0+0

I'd much rather use CRT-0: 1600x1200 @1600x1200 +1280+1024, DFP-0:
1280x1024 @1280x1024 +0+0, but that's quite unpractical if the pointer

[Bug 154517] Re: Border around maximized windows

2007-10-21 Thread Marcus Sundman
No, I was wrong, there is no right border either. Great!
Now only the smooth engine makes unwanted borders. Any idea where that should
be reported?

[Bug 111222] Re: new azureus package 2.5.0.4

2007-10-21 Thread Marcus Sundman
I'm sorry, I was completely wrong about the 3.x branch not being azureus. (I
really should have tried it instead of just reading about it on their website.)
I've been running azureus 3.0.3.4 for several weeks now on both feisty and
gutsy without any problems, using sun's jre instead of gcj. As long as you
don't try to compile it with gcj it works without any problems, so I don't see
why it couldn't be included.

[Bug 71024] Re: ulimit / pam limits don't work

2007-10-21 Thread Marcus Sundman
If it takes a decade (and still counting) to make lsof display the offset I
don't think pam limits will get fixed any time soon. (Yes, yes, I know they are
different issues, I'm just grumpy and bitter.)
I constantly bump into these absurd inflexibilities in linux, which I nowadays
consider to be only a toy kernel/OS precisely because of these shortcomings.

[Bug 154695] Unable to play xvid, divx, etc. after codecs dir change or xine crash

2007-10-19 Thread Marcus Sundman
Public bug reported:

After the codecs dir changes, or sometimes after xine crashes, xine
can't play xvid, divx, etc. videos anymore. The reason seems to be that
~/.xine/catalog.cache has become outdated and/or corrupted. This is
easily fixed by deleting ~/.xine/catalog.cache, but few people know
this. (Even though I knew this I didn't remember it when xine stopped
working when I upgraded feisty to gutsy, so I spent over an hour looking
for a fix before I remembered what I needed to do to fix it.)

To fix this bug two things has to be done:
1) Make sure that ~/.xine/catalog.cache never becomes outdate/corrupted.
2) When ~/.xine/catalog.cache becomes outdate/corrupted (and it will, despite
#1 above) then notice this fact and automatically re-create the file.

** Affects: xine-lib (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 154517] Re: Border around maximized windows

2007-10-19 Thread Marcus Sundman
I just disabled and re-enabled the desktop effects and now the metacity themes
don't have a left border on maximized windows! There still seems to be a
1-pixel border on the right border, though.
(Also, all gtk themes using the smooth engine seems to have a border for
maximized windows hardcoded into them. At least I can't find any parameters
that would affect the border when I try to modify existing themes' gtkrc files.)

[Bug 154517] Re: Border around maximized windows

2007-10-19 Thread Marcus Sundman
Uh...

 1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter
the problem,

I upgraded feisty to gutsy.

 2. the behavior you expected, and

I expected there to be no side borders (and hoped there would be no
bottom border) on maximized windows.

 3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as
possible).

I encountered ~2 pixel wide borders on the left and on the right (and
apparently also on the bottom) of a maximized window.

[Bug 154517] Border around maximized windows

2007-10-19 Thread Marcus Sundman
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-themes

The themes seem to have gotten a thin border even when maximized. Not
only is this border almost invisible and completely useless, it also
destroys the usability benefits (see Fitt's Law) of placing widgets at
the borders (usually scrollbars, but also stuff like the panel toggle in
opera).

[Bug 144624] AltGr does not work in xvncviewer

2007-09-24 Thread Marcus Sundman
Public bug reported:

Many (most?) european keyboards have an AltGr button to the right of the
space bar and this is used to type e.g. '{' (AltGr+7) and '$' (AltGr+4).
This AltGr button doesn't work over xvncviewer to a normal feisty remote
desktop. Or rather, the button itself works (i.e., events are picked up
when running an xev on the target), but no events are sent when pressing
another key at the same time. E.g. when I press AltGr+4 then the target
receives only the same events it receives when pressing just AltGr.
