Re: [Bug 123920] Re: Bluetooth Logitech Dinovo Keyboard/Mouse don't work
Yes. My hardware is still working as well as the day I got it. I only charge it rarely, maybe once every other month. I always turn it off when not in use and don't leave it attached to the charging base. Maybe that helped the longevity, or maybe i just got lucky. > On January 28, 2020 at 10:36 PM Rob Bruce <123...@bugs.launchpad.net> wrote: > > > It seems a shame that my affected hardware didn't live to see this day > :( If it had held on another year and a half, I would've been able to > test this out. [Bug 1437764] Re: ttf-mscorefonts-installer doesn't work from Ubuntu Software Center because of EULA, breaks APT
Actually, this bug has existed since 14.04. It is still present today in 16.04. Sometimes the EULA appears in a window underneath the software center, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes the ubuntu-restricted- extras package won't even show up in software center. [Bug 388553] Re: Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) not supported
Ran into this problem at a patients house today. I am running Ubuntu 16.04 and usually connect through my cell phone as a mobile hotspot, but there was no cell service at the location I went to. [Bug 1352374] Re: changing backlight color on saitek eclipse 2 keyboard causes mouse failure
Status New I have updated the BIOS from version 1503 (1-16-13) to version 2501. Here is the output of your command: marty@tux:~$ sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date [sudo] password for marty: 2501 04/07/2014 marty@tux:~$ The behavior is unchanged from before the BIOS update. If I wait until the system finishes booting and I am on my desktop and attempt to change the start up color of the keyboard illumination from blue to red, I lose most mouse left and right click ability on the desktop area. I can still click the gear icon and have the system log off and log back on as long as I don't wait too long. The longer I wait to attempt the log off, the less mouse function I have until all it does is move the cursor around, but nothing is clickable. The keyboard will still function for a much longer period of time until everything becomes unresponsive. My current work around is to change the keyboard color as soon as the boot process starts to load the Linux kernel. If I wait until I am on the desktop to change the color, then I must immediately log off and back on and everything is fine as long as I don't attempt to change the color again. Any further changes of keyboard color require an immediate log off and on to keep the system stable. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1352374 Title: changing backlight color on saitek eclipse 2 keyboard causes mouse failure To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1352374/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1352374] [NEW] changing backlight color on saitek eclipse 2 keyboard causes mouse failure
Public bug reported: This has apparently been ongoing for a long time. I have a Saitek Eclipse ii keyboard and I and others report that when you click the keyboard button to change the back light color, it triggers mouse events. [Bug 1328320] Re: fresh install fails on RAID 1 with failure to update grub
There was nothing wrong with the install media. It only took me about 10 hours to figure out what was going on. It is complex and involves dmraid and mdadm and boot repair as well as manually setting up the partitions in the installer. Grub refuses to install no matter how you set the partitions in the installer, so you have to run boot repair twice to fix everything. It eventually ends up running in RAID 1 using dmraid. If you do it right, you can install Ubuntu 14.04 to a software RAID 1, but it is complex. I posted the full instructions on the Ubuntu formus.. http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2229126&p=13047160#post13047160 It would be nice if the "Something Else" choice in the installer offered to help you set up simple software RAID sets using the included dmraid package. [Bug 1321354] [NEW] open samba shares become unresponsive if unused for 15 minutes
Public bug reported: I am running a windows file server with several shared folders. I access them from my Ubuntu machines on a gigabit ethernet local area network using nautilus and save the ones I need as bookmarks. I also have text files on the server that remain open so I can modify them during the day. I have done this succesfully for the last 4 years using Ubuntu clients 10.04, 12.04. I recently did clean installs on 3 of my office machines to 14.04. All 64 bit. Establishing the shares and saving them as bookmarks works as expected. I have the shares open across several workspaces. Leaving the shares open in their own windows will work only if I continue to use them. If I take the focus off the open window with the share for 15 minutes, the window becomes unresponsive if I attempt to do anything in it. I get the error message: "Oops! Something went wrong. Unhandled error message: Software caused connection abort" I then have to close the open window with the share which takes longer than normal to close and trying to reopen the share from nautilus also can take up to 15-20 seconds to re-open. The share will then work normally until I again stop using it for about 15 minutes, which causes a repeat of the problem. It is very consistent. Once any of the shares is made to work again, they all start working normally until the next time there is a problem. Thinking it was a Nautilus problem, I tried using both Nemo and Thunar. They also exhibit the same problem, but instead of throwing an error message, they turn their window grey for 15-20 seconds and then start working again. My current work around is to open a terminal and enter the command: "sudo watch smbstatus" which causes the samba server to get pinged every 2 seconds. As long as I do this, the shares all seem to work as expected again. I have 1 Ubuntu 12.04 machine in my office that continues to handle samba shares normally. 3) What you expected to happen: I expect open samba shares to remain responsive and usable no matter how long they are not the focus of activity. 4) What happened instead: Instead, if the share does not remain the focus, the share becomes unresponsive and must be restarted. [Bug 1319186] [NEW] browsing samba shares becomes unresponsive over time
Public bug reported: Ubuntu 14.04 64 bit nautilus version: 1:3.10.1-0ubuntu9 I have saved as bookmarks several samba shares from a Windows machine on my office network to my Ubuntu 14.04 workstations (Windows is host, Ubuntu is client). I switch to a new workspace and open the saved share. It displays normally. I switch to another workspace and open a different saved samba share. It also works normally. I then switch to a 3rd workspace where I am using various programs. If you wait 15 minutes and change back to the workspaces where the opened shares exist, they have become unresponsive. Clicking on any files or folders will will cause a delay followed by the open window becoming unresponsive with the only choice being to close the window and then reopen the share from a right click of the files menu in the launcher. The share will again open and work normally until you again change workspaces and wait about 15 minutes, after which it again becomes unresponsive. This behaviour never happend with Ubuntu 10.04 or 12.04, which I was using before. Every machine in my office which all have a fresh install of 64 bit Ubuntu 14.04 behave the same way. As an experiment, I installed Nemo on 1 of my machines and instead of becoming unresponsive, the browser window turns grey for 15 seconds, but then starts to work normally. The expected behaviour would be to have the open browser windows continue to work without delay after switching workspaces and coming back to them after a period of 15 minutes. For me it was gpe11 that had a value of 4200. I followed the instructions from post #114 above, modified for gpe11 instead of 13 and it seems to have resolved the problem for me. That is why I made the batch file on the Windows desktop. Sometimes I have to hit it 2 or 3 times to get the clipboard to start working again. [Bug 937522] Re: rdp clipboard sync doesn't work anymore.
Damir Butmir: This may be a problem on the Windows machine itself. There are 2 things to try. First, put something in the clipboard by "ctrl-c ing" any random text on your local Linux machine before trying to copy from the XP box. If this works, then I agree, its' still a bug in Remmina, even if the dev says it's normal behavior. Second, the XP remote clipboard in Windows may be hung. I have found this to be a problem NOT exclusive to RDP in Linux. It is also reported as a long standing problem in all Windows OS's when running RDP. Once you have the remote session open, run the Windows task manager (right click the task bar and select task manager) and look for the process rdpclip.exe. End task on this process and then at the top of the task manager window, click on File > New Task (Run) and enter rdpclip.exe in the dialog box and run it. Now try your clipboard and see if it is working. If that fixes it for you, then it's a Windows problem. I have created a small batch file that I leave on the Windows desktop that I can click on to quickly end and restart the rdpclip.exe. Place the following in a file called clipboard.bat Taskkill.exe /im rdpclip.exe Rdpclip.exe I actually got this info from a Windows discussion site where many people who only run Windows were having the same problem. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/937522 Title: rdp clipboard sync doesn't work anymore. [Bug 937522] Re: rdp clipboard sync doesn't work anymore.
OK, The one thing I didn't think of was that the one common thread in my problem was Windows. I have been having so much trouble with remmina that I just kept assuming Windows was fine. In this case, it was the Windows clipboard that had failed. It would not copy/paste anything within itself, never mind over a remote connection. Once I restarted my Windows session, every thing started working again. Thank you for the fine work in resolving the remmina clipboard bug, it is usable now. I saw the new update for remmina last night and installed it and clipboard synch worked as long as I put something into the clipboard from the client side first. [Bug 995639] [NEW] libopenal1 not installed correctly No sound at all in ut2k4
Public bug reported: I have just upgraded Ubuntu 11.10 to 12.04 64 bit. My sound works in general, but not in one of my games, UT2K4. Upon examination, I discovered libopenal1 is not correctly installed. If I look in synaptic it says it is installed. I also tried reinstalling it. The files that are supposed to be there are: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libopenal.so.1 /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libopenal.so.1.13.0 /usr/share/doc/libopenal1/changelog.Debian.gz /usr/share/doc/libopenal1/copyright /usr/share/doc/libopenal1/examples/alsoftrc.sample.gz However, only the files in /usr/share/doc are actually installed. The 2 files: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libopenal.so.1 /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libopenal.so.1.13.0 do not exist on my system. I attempted to file a bug directly against libopenal1, the command: ubuntu-bug libopenal1 returns an error that libopenal1 is not installed, even though synaptic says it is. Is there any way I can just get these 2 files so I can put them where they belong? [Bug 937522] Re: rdp clipboard sync doesn't work anymore.
So far the only thing it does not do correctly is integrate with the Unity launcher. It's icon appears there, but once the program is running, if you click on the launcher icon again it will load a second instance of the program instead of switching to the running instance. It also seems to lack the ability to map the host drive to your local session. There is no way to make it display window contents while dragging. It only shows the outline of the window like the old rdesktop applicaiton used to do. Most of these things don't bother me, except the Unity launcher icon behavior. I should move this discussion to either the Ubuntu forums or open a bug on krdc for not respecting the Unity launcher. [Bug 872940] Re: Logitech Dinovo Bluetooth keyboard fails after upgrade to 11.10
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 123920 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/123920 theKing2...As long as you like all the other changes in 11.10, you can try the upgrade. Just change the hiddev to hidraw and your keyboard/trackpad should continue to work. In fact, now that I think of it, if it was working before the upgrade, then perhaps you should make the change as soon as the upgrade process is finished, but before you reboot. That way your system should come back up with working keyboard. Otherwise, you will have to plug in a wired USB keyboard/mouse to make the change. If you wait for this to be addressed by the Dev's, you might be waiting till April 2012 and then it may still not be "fixed". Something else to watch for is that after I got it working, there was a bluetooth update that set the hidraw back to hiddev. I noticed it before I rebooted, so I just changed the file back before rebooting and didn't have any further trouble. The lesson here is to look at the updates so you know what to expect before rebooting. This happened a few weeks ago, so if you are just starting the process now, you already have the "new" bluetooth update and don't have to worry. If you are just doing the upgrade now, you only have to do the fix once. If you are doing a clean install, then do all the updates after the install before fixing the keyboard issue or you will just have to do it again after the bluetooth update is applied. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/872940 Title: Logitech Dinovo Bluetooth keyboard fails after upgrade to 11.10 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/udev/+bug/872940/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 872940] [NEW] Logitech Dinovo Bluetooth keyboard fails after upgrade to 11.10
Public bug reported: Ubuntu 11.10 32 bit upgraded from 11.04 on 12 Oct. 2011 What is expected to happen: The Logitech dinovo bluetooth keyboard/trackpad should continue to work as before. What happened instead: The keyboard now fails to connect and cannot be paired with the bluetooth dialog. The problem is in the udev rules. In 11.04 there was a special line in /lib/udev/rules.d/70-hid2hci.rules for Logitech devices that started with KERNEL=="hidraw*". This is now missing in 11.10 I edited /lib/udev/rules.d/62-bluez-hid2hic.rules and changed the hiddev to hidraw, saved the file and rebooted. The keyboard and trackpad now work as expected. The file as it exists now is less complex then the one in 11.04 as there were several items listed in the Logitech section. I suspect that the 11.04 version allowed other logitech devices to work in hiddev mode. Someone more knowledgeable then me needs to compare the 2 versions of the file to ensure total compatibility. The Logitech section from 11.04 looks like this: # Logitech devices KERNEL=="hiddev*", ATTRS{idVendor}=="046d", ATTRS{idProduct}=="c70[35e]", \ RUN+="hid2hci --method=logitech-hid --devpath=%p" KERNEL=="hidraw*", ATTRS{idVendor}=="046d", ATTRS{idProduct}=="c70[4abc]|c71[34bc]", \ RUN+="hid2hci --method=logitech-hid --devpath=%p" The Logitech section from 11.10 looks like this before modification: # Logitech devices KERNEL=="hiddev*", ATTRS{idVendor}=="046d", ATTRS{idProduct}=="c70[345abce]|c71[34bc]", \ RUN+="hid2hci --method=logitech-hid --devpath=%p" This is what I changed it to: # Logitech devices KERNEL=="hidraw*", ATTRS{idVendor}=="046d", ATTRS{idProduct}=="c70[345abce]|c71[34bc]", \ RUN+="hid2hci --method=logitech-hid --devpath=%p" ** Affects: udev (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/872940 Title: Logitech Dinovo Bluetooth keyboard fails after upgrade to 11.10 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/udev/+bug/872940/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Total regression with this issue in 11.10 32 bit I had this dinovo edge bluetooth keyboard/trackpad working perfectly in 11.04. [Bug 797941] Re: shotwell prints filename on all photos
Thank you. That "feature" was driving me crazy. I did a Google search on this topic and it seemed to be something that you could not turn off. Unchecking it seems to persist after I exit and restart Shotwell. Now I can start to really look at the capabilities of the program to see if it's a viable alternative to Picasa. Is there any way to have it search on the name of the folders the pictures are in as well as the individual file names? Picasa searches this way and it greatly simplifies how I label pictures. I can have 30 images in a folder called "oliver" that have camera generated file names, but in Picasa I just need to search on Oliver and it will find them all. In Shotwell, I have to rename each individual picture. [Bug 255651] Re: floppy disk drive not detected (module not loaded) in Intrepid and Jaunty
For older motherboards that require a floppy to update the BIOS, it's easily done from a bootable floppy disk. Back in the days when I used to run Windows, I always did it that way because I didn't trust having Windows running while doing something as critical as a BIOS update. The OS installed on the HDD is irrelevant. As long as all the hardware is correct and properly recognized by the motherboard, you don't even have to have an OS installed to do a BIOS update and in fact, many system builders will argue that it's a good idea to update the BIOS prior to installing the OS. I don't mean this to be a dismissal of the need for floppy support. It's still needed by people for other use cases with devices that only read/write their data to floppy. It's just that for BIOS management, it's simply not needed. If you read through the link provided in #108 above, you will find several mentions of (relatively) simple cli solutions for mounting and unmounting the floppy. These can be semi-automated to 1 click solutions as launchers on the top panel. [Bug 747463] Re: Ubuntu 11.04 Mail Notification needs to be included in systray to show number of emails in mailboxes
I have been using the mail notification icon in the top panel for the last few years in Ubuntu and I find it extremely useful. When I started trying unity, I realized it was difficult if not impossible to add functions to the top panel. In the 11.04 repositories, indicator- weather is notable for being a good example of how to get around this problem. It integrates perfectly with the unity top panel and has configurable pop up alerts for weather changes. [Bug 713838] Re: gthumb fails camera import and then loads an attached hard drive
Paolo, you need to right click Applications the select "Edit Menus". In the resulting window, select Graphics on the left side and then on the right side, right click gThumb Photo Import Tool. Select Properties and in the resulting window, change the command in the "Command" box to read: sh -c 'gphoto2 ; exec gthumb --import-photos' It's easiest to just blank out the old command and paste in the one I wrote above. Once the new command is in the box, just click "Close" and close out of the menu editor. If your camera is already connected, disconnect it. Then the next time you plug it in and set it to upload, everything should work as before. Some of the choices in the new version of the import tool have been moved to the "Preferences" button, so look at that once it runs. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/713838 Title: gthumb fails camera import and then loads an attached hard drive -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 713838] Re: gthumb fails camera import and then loads an attached hard drive
As a work around, I am using Shotwell to import from my camera. It does a good job and allows me to erase from the camera after importing. I am not crazy about the way it organizes the imported pictures by date, several layers deep. I just tell it to save to my desktop and then move the pictures around to where I want them from there. I still use gthumb as my basic photo editor when I don't want to fire up gimp. For actual picture managment, I use Picasa 3.0 installed from the Google testing repositories. [Bug 713847] [NEW] nautilus closes on cut/paste of file over VPN
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus 64 bit Ubuntu 10.10 upgraded from 10.04 nautilus: Installed: 1:2.32.0-0ubuntu1.3 What I expected: I open a VPN tunnel from my home to my office every day. I then open a saved bookmark of a folder that contains several subfolders on the remote (Windows XP Pro sp2) server. I then scan documents on the Ubuntu computer to pdf format which I then cut and paste to the appropriate folder on the server. As i cut and paste to the various sub folders, the files transfer to the destination folders without incident. I have been doing this for a few years without problems. What happens instead: Cut and paste of file or files results in most of the files being transferred to the destination followed by the nautilus destination window closing. The VPN is still open and shows mounted on my desktop. I have to reopen the saved bookmark to get back to the area I want to cut and paste the next document(s) into. This happens every time. If I do a copy/paste instead of a cut/paste, the destination window remains open. I have also found that if I try to navigate into subfolders, I can go into them, but often when backing back out, the window will close the same way it does on a cut/paste. [Bug 713838] [NEW] gthumb fails camera import and then loads an attached hard drive
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gthumb After upgrading 64 bit 10.04 to 10.10 gthumb no longer loads pictures from my canon SD550 digital camera when connected by USB. Version of gthumb is 3:2.11.3-2build1 What was expected is a normal gthumb import session which reads the camera and presents the pictures for importing. What happened instead: You get a popup window which says "Could not load the folder DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.UnknownMethod: Method "QueryInfo" with signature "aysus" on interface "org.gtk.vfs.Mount" doesn't exist". After closing that popup, gthumb then loads a pictures folder that is on an sata hard drive that is mounted and used as my backup drive. The drop down list in the picture importer only shows "backup" as the source of the photos. I have tried changing the command for gthumb importer from: sh -c 'gvfs-mount -u ~/.gvfs/gphoto2*; exec gthumb --import-photos' to: sh -c 'gvfs-mount -s gphoto2 ; sleep 3 ; exec gthumb --import-photos' as this was needed to get it to work in 10.04, but it has no effect in 10.10. If I take the memory card out of the camera and put it in an external card reader, gthumb will import the pictures as expected. Shotwell, the new default picture import application in 10.10, has no problems seeing and importing photos from the camera. ** Affects: gthumb (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/713838 Title: gthumb fails camera import and then loads an attached hard drive -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 269851] Re: Bluetooth Logitech Dinovo Edge Keyboard/Mouse does not work anymore
I also recently did a 9.10 to 10.04 to 10.10 upgrade (32 bit) on an old Dell notebook I decided to use as a HT computer. It only has a single USB 1.1 port that the dongle is plugged into. I also have this issue after upgrading 64 bit 10.04 to 10.10. I am asked for login keyring 4 times. It should be noted that you should only do this if its your own machine at home and you are not worried about others getting access to it. You are about to unencrypt your passwords if you follow the instructions below. As a temporary fix: System > Preferences > Passwords & Encryption Keys. In the Passwords tab, mine shows Passwords:login. Do not click to open its drop down list. Simply right click the words Passwords:login and then select "change password". You should see the same window that pops up every time you try to restart your machine. Enter your current password in the "Old Password" field and then hit the tab key twice to move focus to the "Password" and "Confirm" fields, leaving each one blank. When you click "OK", it will ask "Store passwords Unencrypted?" [Bug 269851] Re: Bluetooth Logitech Dinovo Edge Keyboard/Mouse dones not work anymore
After doing a 9.10 to 10.04 upgrade, I noticed on the first boot that a screen appeared asking for permission for my Logitch bluetooth keyboard/trackpad (Dinovo Edge) to connect. There was also a check box to "always remember" this setting. Unfortunately, while I was reading it, after about 10 seconds, it timed out and closed. I could not figure out how to get that dialog back and the Dinovo edge did not work. I hooked up a Ps2 keyboard and mouse and followed the instructions in Post #25 by Tommy. That worked and my Dinovo edge is back to normal. The file the instructions tell you to edit has a warning in it saying not to edit this file because it will be overwritten on subsequent upgrades, so this is just a temporary work around. Assuming the dialog that showed on first boot would have fixed the issue, there should not be a timeout on it. It should stay up until dismissed. There should also be some way to get it to come back. Rebooting the machine did not help. Once timed out, the dialog will not come back. Also, even if it stayed on screen, you could not use the Dinovo Edge to click it, because it doesn't have permission to connect yet, so you need time to hook up another keyboard. Why was the default changed in the 70-hid2hci.rules from hidraw to hiddev for 10.04? I assume there had to be a good reason, but it negatively impacts Logitech bluetooth keyboards. -- Bluetooth Logitech Dinovo Edge Keyboard/Mouse dones not work anymore https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/269851 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 389909] Re: Change resolve order so Nautilus can browse local network when ISP uses DNS redirection
As the original poster of this thread, I thought I would add another 2 cents. I discovered my ISP (Cablevision in New York), offers the ability to "opt out" of DNS redirection. This is not widely disseminated knowledge and it is almost impossible to find unless you know it exists. I changed my status to "opted-out" for DNS rerdirection both on my home and office networks and I have had no further problems in any new installs of 9.04, 9.10 or 10.04 beta that I have tried on either network. As far as I can tell, this problem still remains and the only viable fixes are to use one of the following techinques: 1) Change the resolve order in /etc/samba/smb.conf 2) Use a public DNS server like Google as mentioned in #12 above 3) If your ISP allows, opt out of DNS redirection. -- Change resolve order so Nautilus can browse local network when ISP uses DNS redirection https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/389909 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 367767] Re: the system freeze when I insert an audio cd
For Dibya Sanyal...this is not a fix for the bug, just a work around so you don't have to hard reboot. If you hold down the alt and scroll lock (sysreq) keys and while holding them down, press k, you should restart x without having to reboot. This can also be set back to the old standard of ctrl / alt / backspace in Karmic by going to System > Preferences > Keyboard and then on the Layouts tab, Click on "Layout Options" and you will see a list of items. Click the triangle next to "key sequence to kill the x server" and put a check mark in the box next to "Control + Alt + Backspace" box, then click close. If all this does not work, a safe way to force a reboot is to again hold down the alt and scroll lock (sysreq) keys and while holding them down, press in sequence, r s e i u b. This is an update to my post #23. My work around for this is now to simply log off and log back on after rebooting. Since I rarely restart this machine, I don't have to do this very often. I found that I do not have to do the killall gnome-power-manager step, just log off and back on and it works. -- monitors wont go to sleep https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/273484 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 426582] Re: (32MB) certain windows drawn garbled when XAA is used
I have a Dell C510 with the radeon mobility M6 ly video and in Karmic, using no xorg.conf or one with xaa acceleration causes the screen garbling noted above. I also can't run system monitor or some of the screen savers without getting a badly distorted window or no display at all. Creating an xorg.conf and changing to exa allows everything to display correctly, but the video performance is badly degraded. I have not experienced any lockups in either mode. -- (32MB) certain windows drawn garbled when XAA is used https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/426582 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
