That didn't work here at all, it probably misses some graphics stuff
my T550 needs.

I can confirm that this does not work in 14.04 as these packages don't
exist there.

[Bug 1605931] [NEW] No permission to access files on removable storage device

2016-07-23 Thread Martin Schröder
Public bug reported:

On my usb removable drive I created two partitions:

$ sudo fdisk -l /dev/sdb

Disk /dev/sdb: 15.8 GB, 15804137472 bytes
64 heads, 32 sectors/track, 15072 cylinders, total 30867456 sectors
Units = sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
Disk identifier: 0x000f38c6

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sdb12048 4196351 2097152b W95 FAT32
/dev/sdb2 41963523086745513335552 83 Linux

If I insert the drive, both partitions are automatically mounted (as
they should), but only the FAT32 partition gets mounted with gid and uid
of my user, the Ext4 partition is mounted for root:

$ mount
[...]
/dev/sdb1 on /media/moi/MOI-A type vfat
(rw,nosuid,nodev,uid=1000,gid=1000,shortname=mixed,dmask=0077,utf8=1,showexec,flush,uhelper=udisks2)
/dev/sdb2 on /media/moi/moi-b type ext4 (rw,nosuid,nodev,uhelper=udisks2)

I expect that both partitions are mounted for my user
(uid=1000,gid=1000).

[Bug 1487993] Re: [Dell Latitude E6410] Suspend/Resume failure

2015-08-24 Thread Martin Schröder
I tried to get more information by following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspend

The resume failure happens regardless of which suspend method I use:
shutting lid, click suspend in gui, pm-suspend

Regarding booting into the latest mainline kernel: Should I really use
the latest (v4.2-rc8-unstable) or the latest for my version of Ubuntu
(v3.15-rc2-trusty)?

I tried the resume-trace debugging procedure, but I'm not sure, it gave a
usable result:
grep -i -A 3 -B 3 hash matches dmesg.txt
[1.308444] IMA: No TPM chip found, activating TPM-bypass!

The workaround by Jeremy works. But who is responsible for this mess? Please

It's anything but obvious that my graphical interface stops to work because of
OpenCV being installed.

[Bug 1215403] [NEW] Partition not recognized

2013-08-22 Thread Martin Schröder
Public bug reported:

In Windows 7 the partition on an external drive is recognized and works
fine. Checkdisk reports no problems.

In Ubuntu 13.04 the partition is not recognized. GParted only shows
unallocated disk space.

Gdisk says:

sudo gdisk -l /dev/sdc
GPT fdisk (gdisk) version 0.8.5

Partition table scan:
  MBR: protective
  BSD: not present
  APM: not present
  GPT: present

Found valid GPT with protective MBR; using GPT.

Warning! Secondary partition table overlaps the last partition by
4294966385 blocks!
You will need to delete this partition or resize it in another utility.
Disk /dev/sdc: 1565565872 sectors, 746.5 GiB
Logical sector size: 512 bytes
Disk identifier (GUID): AAD95B0E-B532-46E0-8A90-CE52F34B2792
Partition table holds up to 128 entries
First usable sector is 34, last usable sector is 1565565838
Partitions will be aligned on 8-sector boundaries
Total free space is 2014 sectors (1007.0 KiB)

Number Start (sector)End (sector) Size Code Name
   1 34 262177 128.0 MiB 0C01 Microsoft reserved part
   2 264192 5860532223 2.7 TiB 0700 Basic data partition

The awkward thing is: gdisk reports a disk size of 746.5 GiB whereas
Windows' Disk Management (correctly) reports a size of 2794,39 GB.

How can I get the disk to work?

[Bug 41179]

2013-08-08 Thread Martin Schröder
I think we have to differenciate between two levels:
- The ability to *securely* store passwords (with a master password or a key
provided by the system's key manager)
- The ability to securely *store passwords in the system's key manager*, where
all my passwords live.

I favor the second option. I'm not concerned about moving passwords between
different systems (that should happen rarely). And if I happen to use multiple
devices: That's what Sync is for.
I am concerned about storing my passwords in a way that I trust: my system's
key ring (storing keys is it's only purpose and I think it should be good at
it).

Of course the thoughts in the link posted above[1] are also good ones.

[Bug 41179]

2013-08-07 Thread Martin Schröder
(In reply to Jesse Glick from comment #105)
(In reply to jhorak from comment #104)
do the libsecret supports KDE right now?

 https://wiki.gnome.org/Libsecret says it does.

The site says that libsecret supports ksecretservice. And ksecretservice
is not working very well and is not included by default (AFAIK).

But what is the problem with using libsecret under Gnome and Firefox'
own storage under KDE? Then it's like before under KDE until they have a
freedesktop.org compatible key storage.

2013-08-06 Thread Martin Schröder
Sorry for introducing the proprietary term. I didn't assign any
judgement to it.

Wouldn't it be optimal, if Sync would be able to store and load into and
from a file? Then the data could be brought everywhere without storing
it online. This way the differences between systems wouldn't matter.

Environment was Ubuntu 12.10 quantal live usb with bcmwl-kernel-

I read that a NetBIOS name can have only 15 chars, so that seems to be
the problem.

[Bug 1191510] Re: Wifi disconnects every 10 seconds in WPA/WPA2 enterprise

2013-06-17 Thread Martin Schröder
I had problems installing the mainline kernel:

run-parts: executing /etc/kernel/header_postinst.d/dkms
3.10.0-031000rc6-generic /boot/vmlinuz-3.10.0-031000rc6-generic

Consult /var/lib/dkms/bcmwl/6.20.155.1+bdcom/build/make.log for more
information.

I will try the daily saucy build with the most recent mainline kernel
and report the result.

[Bug 1191510] [NEW] Wifi disconnects every 10 seconds in WPA/WPA2 enterprise

2013-06-16 Thread Martin Schröder
Public bug reported:

If I connect to my university wifi (WPA/WPA2 enterprise, tunneled TLS,
MSCHAPv2), after a short while I am disconnected and automatically
connected again (~2 seconds connected, ~7 seconds disconnected).

I will attach the output in syslog. At 14:36:30 the connection is
established the first time. Then at 14:36:53 the interface is
disconnected and at 14:36:59 connected again. This goes on without end.

Ping shows the above mentioned timings:

This error only occurs, when I'm connected to the university network. At home
I don't have any problems.
I also tried different wifi interfaces, its the same:

[Bug 1191292] [NEW] Acrobat Reader doesn't show up in Open with-dialog

2013-06-15 Thread Martin Schröder
Public bug reported:

I installed the acroread package and although I can start the
application itself, I can not rightclick on a file and select Open with
Acrobat Reader; the option doesn't show up.

But if I fix /usr/share/applications/acroread.desktop accorting to
http://ubuntugenius.wordpress.com/2012/06/18/ubuntu-fix-add-program-to-
list-of-applications-in-open-with-when-right-clicking-files-in-nautilus/
so that it contains the line Exec=acroread %f (note the %f), then
Acrobat Reader shows up.

I expect not to be forced to manually change a .desktop file to be able
to open files with Acrobat Reader.

[Bug 829553] [NEW] evolution crashes on opening contacts

2011-08-19 Thread Martin Schröder
Public bug reported:

In contact mode (list view) evolution crashes and catches the mouse, when
clicking on some contacts (with others it works). Even after deleting the
adress book and reimporting it as vcard doesn't solve the problem.
The console output doesn't show an error.

Maybe it's an encoding problem?

I tried with oneiric alpha 3.
Nothing changed, in big boxes, the black dot is visible, but in the small

[Bug 800277] [NEW] empathy opens another window if a merged contacts chooses another protocol

2011-06-21 Thread Martin Schröder
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

If a contact chooses to switch the protocol (which many of my friends with
multiprotocol clients do randomly), another chat window opens.
The behavior I expect is like in pidgin: merged contacts share a single chat
window.
Also I'd like to select the currently used protocol in the chat window.

[Bug 633140] Re: 100% CPU usage

2011-04-12 Thread Martin Schröder
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 306497 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/306497

I don't think, that #306497 is a duplicate, there the problem is memory
consumption.

Here, the problem is high cpu usage (for me 100% on one core). I really
think, the problem has to do with a bad network connection.

Note, that the error occurs, even if i don't have gwibber installed,
only gwibber-service is running (and i can't remove the package, because
that would also remove the indicator-me package, which would be very
annoying).

[Bug 736322] [NEW] awn catches focus

2011-03-16 Thread Martin Schröder
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: avant-window-navigator

Since the last update, its impossible to close windows or use the panel.
I think, awn grabs the focus and doesn't release it. (The error persists even
if I kill awn).

If I start a new session without awn, everything is fine (exept for the
absence of awn).

I use Ubuntu 10.10 amd64 and the places applet of awn.

[Bug 635039] Re: evince crashed with SIGSEGV in ev_mapping_list_find()

2011-02-10 Thread Martin Schröder
I have an up-to-date Ubuntu 10.10 with evince 2.32.0-0ubuntu1.1.
The error occurs, when I save a copy of an open file, overwriting the existing
file.

Please upgrade your system to the latest package versions. If you still
encounter the crash, please file a new report.
Does that mean, I have to open a full new bug report?

[Bug 712501] [NEW] Checkboxes in forms not correctly shown

2011-02-03 Thread Martin Schröder
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

When I check small checkboxes in a PDF form, only a very small dot (one
pixel) is visible, even with a big zoom factor.

Screenshot: http://img577.imageshack.us/img577/5410/checkbox.png

I expect evince to display a clearly visible cross.

I use evince version 2.32.0-0ubuntu1 on Ubuntu 10.10 (amd64).

[Bug 521766] Re: Theme not applied on startup

For me it seems, that this bug happens, when running on battery power.
Also I'm using the proprietary NVIDIA driver (like some other people who get
the bug).

[Bug 256478] Re: Support contact grouping (metacontacts)

2011-01-01 Thread Martin Schröder
Now grouping of contacts works, that's right.
But if a contact chooses to switch the protocol (which many of my friends with
multiprotocol clients do randomly), another chat window opens.
The behavior I expect is like in pidgin: merged contacts share a single chat
window.

[Bug 369415] Re: Openvpn crashes Kernel 2.6.30

2010-09-29 Thread Martin Schröder
I have mainly the same issue with karmic and 2.6.31-22-generic kernel.
If I connect to the VPN of my university (via wlan), I have a little time to
browse the internet, then the computer crashes and the caps lock light blinks.

[Bug 535586] Re: can't adjust volume with Intel 82801I (ICH9 Family) HD Audio Controller after updating to linux-alsa-driver-modules-2.6.31

after the multiple updates in the last weeks, the problem remains with
unmuted internal speakers, not working microphone and the mic-slider
controlling the master volume.

[Bug 535586] Re: can't adjust volume with Intel 82801I (ICH9 Family) HD Audio Controller after updating to linux-alsa-driver-modules-2.6.31

2010-03-15 Thread Martin Schröder
After installing linux-alsa-driver-modules-2.6.31-20-generic, according to my
kernel version, i can adjust the volume again and flash in firefox works, too.
One problem remains: When i plug in my headphones, the internal speakers are
not muted.
I think the problem is related to the following issue: In AlsaMixer for
playback devices, I can see (amongst others) Master Front, Headphone, PCM,
Front, Front Mic and Mic. The Master slide behaves correctly (the overall
volume is controlled), the Headphone slide is without function (the value has
no effect on the headphone's volume), PCM also controls overall volume,
Front controls both, internal speakers and headphones, Front Mic doesn't
affect normal playback, but Mic behaves like an alternative slide for
Master (If the last volume setting is made with Master, it's value is
taken, if the last volume setting is made with Mic, the Mic-value is taken).

[Bug 535586] [NEW] can't adjust volume with Intel 82801I (ICH9 Family) HD Audio Controller after updating to linux-alsa-driver-modules-2.6.31

2010-03-10 Thread Martin Schröder
Public bug reported:

After installing the prior version of linux-alsa-driver-modules, sound worked
(it was played trough my internal speakers, i could adjust the volume, but the
speakers didn't mute, if i plugged in headphones).
After updating the kernel and likewise to linux-alsa-driver-modules-2.6.31,
headphones don't work anymore, I can't adjust the volume (it's on if the volume
is 0 or off, no steps in between) and sound doesn't work anymore at all, if I
tried to play flash movies (eg. youtube) in firefox (in the audio-settings
there is an entry alsa-plugin).
I expect
-the volume to be adjustable (like before),
-the headphones to be working and if they are plugged in: the internal speakers
to be muted
-sound played through alsa-plugin not to crash the audio-system
