[Bug 678421] Re: Error message for a faulty ~/.profile script
Hi Gunnar, It would make the file not being loaded in case of a syntax error, and an entry printed to ~/.xsession-errors. I don't know if it's better to ignore this file in case of syntax errors or to refuse to start a new session but for me, the most interesting thing is to notify the user what's wrong. That can be made by adding a line in the ~/.xsession-errors file but I think it's better to display a new dialogue which explains the error. Because if you just ignore this file and print an error in ~/.xsession-errors, I'm not sure that the user will see that there is a problem with his/her ~/.profile file. [Bug 678421] Re: Error message for a faulty ~/.profile script
Hello, I also confirm that this bug can still be annoying with the latest versions of GDM and LightDM :-) And it can be an easy way to make some jokes just by modifying the .profile! Then it will be hard for the user to understand why he can no longer start a new session. Is it maybe possible to just add an error message if there are problems with the .profile file? [Bug 1329090] [NEW] [SRU] OpenGL backend is wrongly blocked and menus are over the dock
Public bug reported: Hello, == Bug 1: Wrong blacklisting == It seems that the patch 'bzr1719_unblacklist_intel_hd4000.patch' has a typo: the blacklist was not fully removed. The blacklist of the Intel 4000HD video card is no longer needed because this bug has been fixed thanks to the 10.1 version of Mesa. But this patch wrongly removes the blacklist and then it's possible that you'll need to force the OpenGL backend (with the '-o' option) to use it even if you don't have this Intel 4000HD video card and you choose to use it. == Bug 2: Menus are not correctly positioned == There is also a bug with the menus: It seems that the behaviour of menus with a custom position has changed since using GTK 3.10: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=721094 We now have to use the 'natural' size instead of the 'minimum' size: -gtk_widget_get_preferred_size (GTK_WIDGET (menu), requisition, NULL); +gtk_widget_get_preferred_size (GTK_WIDGET (menu), NULL, requisition); A branch has been linked to this bug report and it fixes these 2 bugs. [Test Case] For the first bug: You should be able to reproduce this bug when using Free and Open Source video drivers. Simply launch the dock for the first time from a terminal: $ cairo-dock (or if it's not the first time: $ cairo-dock -A) You should see a window to confirm that you want to use the OpenGL backend: click on this Yes button. Then you should see on the terminal that you're not using the OpenGL backend: Running with OpenGL: 0 For the second bug: simply do a right click on the dock and you should see that the menu is over the dock instead of on top of it. Cairo-Dock's menus should not overlap the dock. [Regression Potential] The only possible regression that I see is that this OpenGL backend could maybe be accidentally blocked for some users which have an old, exotic and badly supported video card. If these users enable this OpenGL backend, the dock can look strange but this is why there is a message the first time you launch the dock ;-) Note that these two patches have been tested and added in our unstable and stable PPAs and in the official Utopic repositories one month ago. ** Affects: cairo-dock (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1329090 Title: [SRU] OpenGL backend is wrongly blocked and menus are over the dock To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cairo-dock/+bug/1329090/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1242112 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1242112 do we want to provide by default something that can provide a complete desktop interface, or just an addition to the default shell ? I think that most users used to do some actions, e.g.: clicking on the top right/bottom left to logout. For me it's interesting to have redundancy but if something is different: the Applications Menu is different than the Unity dash, the Shortcuts applet has a completely different design than the Shortcuts applet of the Gnome Panel, etc. Here I think the logout applet is mainly designed for the session because it provides the same actions as the other ones and users used to click on the other one. (According to the comments linked to the bug #1242112 most users didn't know that they can use the logout applet of the dock) and it's not the Logout applet, it's the Launcher API daemon, the Logout applet doesn't do anything until you click on it once Oh... To this problem, I was trying to resize nautilus window, because since about one month, it's impossible to resize window. Only full screen or a little, too little window. The latest version of Nautilus has been modified to have a better integration (only) in Gnome-Shell session but the behaviour is now broken on other sessions... except that Ubuntu devs have patched Nautilus to be used in all other session and now the dock should use this patched version :-) It's better for me using classic menus I agree with you :-) I like our classical applications menu with the search feature :-) Thank you for these ideas! Hello Indicator Application devs, On a Cairo-Dock session ($XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP == Unity ; $DESKTOP_SESSION == cairo-dock), the Status-Notifier plugin of Cairo- Dock is broken when using the version 12.10.1+14.04.20140324 (or newer) of Indicator Application. Do you have any idea why Cairo-Dock's plugin is broken now? It seems that 'nm-applet' and 'indicator-application-service' are correctly launched. Is it possible that Indicator Application is now restricted to some sessions? Or did you change some DBus signals? [Bug 1302246] [NEW] [FFe] Revert back to the 3.3.2 version for Ubuntu 14.04
Public bug reported: Hello, Two months ago, I uploaded the latest version of Cairo-Dock in Ubuntu 14.04 repos but both the main dev (~fabounet03) and I, we are currently too busy to fix some annoying bugs and other design problems... We tried but... to much works... Sadly, we think that the best solution is to reupload the previous version and cherry-pick 2 or 3 patches. I'll prepare the new package ASAP. ** Affects: cairo-dock (Ubuntu) Importance: High Assignee: Matthieu Baerts (matttbe) Status: In Progress ** Affects: cairo-dock (Ubuntu Trusty) Importance: High Assignee: Matthieu Baerts (matttbe) Status: In Progress ** Also affects: cairo-dock (Ubuntu Trusty) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: cairo-dock (Ubuntu Trusty) Assignee: (unassigned) = Matthieu Baerts (matttbe) ** Changed in: cairo-dock (Ubuntu Trusty) Importance: Undecided = High ** Changed in: cairo-dock (Ubuntu Trusty) Status: New = In Progress -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1302246 Title: [FFe] Revert back to the 3.3.2 version for Ubuntu 14.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cairo-dock/+bug/1302246/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1296422] Re: não inicializa.
@oswatanabe: as workaround you have 4 seconds to accept using the dock with/without OpenGL or you can use one of this command to launch the dock: $ cairo-dock -o## = with OpenGL $ cairo-dock -c ## = Without OpenGL backend: if you have some problems with it PS: I guess you'll need a composite manager to correctly support transparency, more details about that there: http://lubuntublog.blogspot.be/p/compton.html ** Changed in: cairo-dock (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = In Progress ** Changed in: cairo-dock (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) = Matthieu Baerts (matttbe) ** Also affects: cairo-dock-core Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: cairo-dock-core Status: New = Fix Committed ** Changed in: cairo-dock-core Assignee: (unassigned) = Matthieu Baerts (matttbe) ** Changed in: cairo-dock (Ubuntu) Milestone: None = ubuntu-14.03 ** Changed in: cairo-dock-core Milestone: None = 3.3.99.rc -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1296422 Title: não inicializa. [Bug 1296422] Re: não inicializa.
@fabounet: sorry, I think I found what was wrong yesterday but I had problem with my WiFi connexion... At startup, the Container Manager is registered and the init function is launched even if there is no dock (e.g. when there is a GTK dialogue at startup to choose if the user wants to use the OpenGL backend or not). After 4 seconds, _check_composite_delayed() is called and if the screen doesn't have any composite manager, _enable_fake_transparency() is used and this line will crash the dock: s_iPrevVisibility = g_pMainDock-iVisibility; I guess that the init() function should be used after having creating all docks, no need to be connected to the composited-changed signal, etc. before that. As an easy fix, if 'g_pMainDock' is NULL when starting _check_composite_delayed(), this function is delayed again = https://bazaar.launchpad.net/~cairo-dock-team/cairo-dock-core/cairo-dock/revision/1732#src/gldit/cairo-dock-container.c Or maybe we can add a reload() function which will be used after having displayed the GTK dialogue? [Bug 1296131] Re: cairo-dock crashed with SIGSEGV in g_hash_table_lookup()
Is it maybe possible to add our Weekly ppa, install debug symbols of the dock, its plugins and GTK3 and then get a new backtrace with GDB? It's easy to do: simply by launching these commands from a terminal: $ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:cairo-dock-team/weekly $ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get dist-upgrade $ sudo apt-get install gdb cairo-dock-core-dbg libgldi3-dbg cairo-dock-plug-ins-dbg cairo-dock-plug-ins-integration-dbg libgtk-3-0-dbg Then, quit Cairo-Dock and relaunch it with GDB as explained there: http://www.glx-dock.org/ww_page.php?p=dddlang=en#1-Backtrace -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1296131 Title: cairo-dock crashed with SIGSEGV in g_hash_table_lookup() To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cairo-dock/+bug/1296131/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
