[Bug 1388738] Re: No cursor while compositing

2014-11-03 Thread Matthieu Baerts
Hello,

I confirm that I also have this bug. But I don't know if this bug report is a
duplicate of bug #1238410 because I only have this bug after updates on Ubuntu
Vivid.
It seems that the bug #1238410 is an old one and it should be fixed on Ubuntu
Vivid.

PS: thank you for the workaround ;-)

[Bug 678421] Re: Error message for a faulty ~/.profile script

2014-10-15 Thread Matthieu Baerts
Hi Gunnar,

 It would make the file not being loaded in case of a syntax error, and
an entry printed to ~/.xsession-errors.

I don't know if it's better to ignore this file in case of syntax errors
or to refuse to start a new session but for me, the most interesting
thing is to notify the user what's wrong. That can be made by adding a
line in the ~/.xsession-errors file but I think it's better to display a
new dialogue which explains the error.

Because if you just ignore this file and print an error in ~/.xsession-errors,
I'm not sure that the user will see that there is a problem with his/her
~/.profile file.
Personally I don't often read this file :-)

[Bug 678421] Re: Error message for a faulty ~/.profile script

2014-10-12 Thread Matthieu Baerts
Hello,

I also confirm that this bug can still be annoying with the latest versions of
GDM and LightDM :-)
And it can be an easy way to make some jokes just by modifying the .profile!
Then it will be hard for the user to understand why he can no longer start a
new session.

Is it maybe possible to just add an error message if there are problems with
the .profile file?
We can easily detect if there are errors in this .profile file as already
written before:

. ~/.profile || echo ERROR

But also without executing any code:

sh -n ~/.profile || echo ERROR

Thank you for maintaining GDM and LightDM!

[Bug 1242112] Re: Shutdown/restart dialogue is not working if Cairo-Dock and its Launcher-API-Deamon are running or if another app is registered to LauncherEntry interface of Unity DBus

2014-07-26 Thread Matthieu Baerts
Added DockbarX and Plank projects to this bug report with 'Invalid'
status: It seems this bug affects DockbarX and Plank users.

** Branch unlinked: lp:ubuntu/cairo-dock

** Description changed:

- Using latest stable release (3.3.1). Just upgraded to Saucy Salamander
- in Ubuntu. When cairo dock is set to automatically run at boot up the
- options to shutdown/restart do not work from the top menu panel next to
- the clock. When run manually after boot the shutdown/restart works fine.
- The shutdown/restart options do work fine from cairo dock/terminal but
- just mess up the shutdown/restart from the top menu panel
+ Unity's shutdown/restart dialogue is not working when another application is
registered to LauncherEntry interface of Unity DBus.
+ It seems we have this bug when Cairo-Dock (and its Launcher-API-Deamon),
DockbarX or Plank are launched before Unity.
+
+ [How to reproduce this bug]
+ Simply launch this script at startup (launched before Unity). It will watch
'com.canonical.Unity.LauncherEntry' bus interface:

[Bug 1336363] Re: Dock rendering/dpi VERY low quality

2014-07-02 Thread Matthieu Baerts
Hi,

The latest version that you're now using fixes this bug: the OpenGL backend was
not enabled by default on many configurations.
If you prefer to not use the OpenGL version (because your video drivers don't
support well some features), you can launch this command and save you new
choice:

  $ cairo-dock -A

Is it what you want? :-)

I'm making this bug as invalid (because no modification is needed in the

What's your video card and is drivers?

[Bug 1329090] [NEW] [SRU] OpenGL backend is wrongly blocked and menus are over the dock

2014-06-11 Thread Matthieu Baerts
Public bug reported:

Hello,

== Bug 1: Wrong blacklisting ==

It seems that the patch 'bzr1719_unblacklist_intel_hd4000.patch' has a typo:
the blacklist was not fully removed. The blacklist of the Intel 4000HD video
card is no longer needed because this bug has been fixed thanks to the 10.1
version of Mesa.
But this patch wrongly removes the blacklist and then it's possible that you'll
need to force the OpenGL backend (with the '-o' option) to use it even if you
don't have this Intel 4000HD video card and you choose to use it.

== Bug 2: Menus are not correctly positioned ==

There is also a bug with the menus: It seems that the behaviour of menus with a
custom position has changed since using GTK 3.10:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=721094
We now have to use the 'natural' size instead of the 'minimum' size:

-gtk_widget_get_preferred_size (GTK_WIDGET (menu), requisition, NULL);
+gtk_widget_get_preferred_size (GTK_WIDGET (menu), NULL, requisition);

A branch has been linked to this bug report and it fixes these 2 bugs.

[Test Case]

For the first bug: You should be able to reproduce this bug when using
Free and Open Source video drivers. Simply launch the dock for the first
time from a terminal:

$ cairo-dock
(or if it's not the first time: $ cairo-dock -A)

You should see a window to confirm that you want to use the OpenGL
backend: click on this Yes button. Then you should see on the terminal
that you're not using the OpenGL backend: Running with OpenGL: 0

For the second bug: simply do a right click on the dock and you should
see that the menu is over the dock instead of on top of it. Cairo-Dock's
menus should not overlap the dock.

[Regression Potential]

The only possible regression that I see is that this OpenGL backend
could maybe be accidentally blocked for some users which have an old,
exotic and badly supported video card. If these users enable this OpenGL
backend, the dock can look strange but this is why there is a message
the first time you launch the dock ;-)

Note that these two patches have been tested and added in our unstable
and stable PPAs and in the official Utopic repositories one month ago.

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1242112 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1242112

@fabounet: do we have to replace it by another applet? :-)
Here the logout applet is not very useful if another panel is already used
because panels of gnome, kde, unity, xfce, lxde, etc. already have a logout
applet. If no other panel is available, I guess the Cairo-Dock session is used
or the user knows how to enable this applet.

If you think it's absolutely needed to replace it by another one, maybe
we can use Clipper or Stack.

[Bug 1242112] Re: Shutdown/restart dialogue is not working if Cairo-Dock and its logout applet are running

2014-05-25 Thread Matthieu Baerts
Hello,

Even if it seems that this bug is due to Unity, as workaround for Cairo-
Dock, we will not enable this Logout applet in the default theme. (The
logout applet is not very useful if you have another panel which also
have a logout applet)

I'll try to update Cairo-Dock packages in Ubuntu Trusty too.

Because I don't think this logout applet is needed in the default theme but if

2014-05-25 Thread Matthieu Baerts
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1242112 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1242112

 do we want to provide by default something that can provide a complete
 desktop interface, or just an addition to the default shell ?

I think that most users used to do some actions, e.g.: clicking on the top
right/bottom left to logout.
For me it's interesting to have redundancy but if something is different: the
Applications Menu is different than the Unity dash, the Shortcuts applet has a
completely different design than the Shortcuts applet of the Gnome Panel, etc.

Here I think the logout applet is mainly designed for the session
because it provides the same actions as the other ones and users used to
click on the other one. (According to the comments linked to the bug
#1242112 most users didn't know that they can use the logout applet of
the dock)

 and it's not the Logout applet, it's the Launcher API daemon, the
 Logout applet doesn't do anything until you click on it once

Oh... Sorry I misunderstood the problem :-/
Ok I will revert my previous modifications ;-)

Sorry I misunderstood the problem: you do not have to remove Cairo-

e.g. by adding X-GNOME-Autostart-Delay=5 (or more than 5 seconds) in
this file: ~/.config/autostart/cairo-dock.desktop

 after some tests, using gtk_widget_set_size_request (pItem-pSubMenu, -1,
 -1); instead seems to force the menu to re-compute its internal size.

Yes, you're right, it seems better! :-)
Did you already commit this change (without a push)? Or I can do that if you

[Bug 1311189] Re: Compiz ShowDesktop plugin: _NET_SHOWING_DESKTOP is not modified

2014-05-10 Thread Matthieu Baerts
** Summary changed:

** Description changed:

+ When using the Show Desktop plugin of Compiz, _NET_SHOWING_DESKTOP

+
+ It's a problem because other apps (like Cairo-Dock) don't know when the

2014-05-08 Thread Matthieu Baerts
 After the problem occurs, value of _NET_SHOWING_DESKTOP(CARDINAL) is always
 1 no matter of all applications minimized or not.

@fabounet: so is it a bug due to Compiz?

 I can't find that on compizconfig-settings-manager, where is it?

This package should be available in the Software-Center ;-)
Or you can also use this command:

 $ sudo apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager

[Bug 1312084] Re: not able to uninstall

2014-04-27 Thread Matthieu Baerts
Hello,

 from right u corner of the disply.

Do you mean from the Unity panel or with the logout applet in the dock?
If you've a problem only when using the one from the Unity panel, is it
better if you remove the logout applet of the dock? If yes, it's maybe
related to a bug with Unity.

2014-04-11 Thread Matthieu Baerts
@Aaron: what did you do just before the crash?
The crash is due to the PowerManager applet, when receiving a message from
UPower notifying that a device (a battery) status has changed. Did you
modify the PowerManager applet? Or did you just (un)plug your battery?

[Bug 1285984] Re: cairo-dock crashed with SIGSEGV in malloc_consolidate()

2014-04-11 Thread Matthieu Baerts
 a solution is to register to the destroy notification on the icons
 created by the applet, and when the callback is called, remove it from its
 internal list of icons.

@fabounet: but is it still really needed to do that? Because now this
plugin no longer modifies its icons (by hiding them) when stopping the
applet.

[Bug 1301624] Re: cairo-dock crashed with SIGSEGV in _int_free()

2014-04-11 Thread Matthieu Baerts
@Guy Roche: I post here your answer because I'm not the only one people
who can help you ;-)

Hello Mathieu,

To this problem, I was trying to resize nautilus window, because since about
one month, it's impossible to resize window. Only full screen or a little, too
little window. No problem with others windows.
I use cairo dock because i cannot regler colours (gamma, ) of my pc (DV7
2200SF HP) With cairo, I can. Unity seems to be compliqué like windows 8 with
their tuiles. 8.1 is better with the classic menu. It's better for me using
classic menus Always when their is much windows open and then I use
copy/paste.
 (by the way, I boot on the same disc (320GB) Ubuntu 14.04 , Win 8.1 and Win7.
Windows is only for videos (making dvd) and now, win 8.1 for applys. On
ubuntu, I use to VirtualBox (the new version of VB
(virtualbox-4.3_4.3.10-93012~Ubuntu~raring_amd64) don't works ! dependance pb
And on VB : Win7 to use videos making dvd, captv, ... And Android 4.4 to use
somes prefers applys.
So, pb with cairo : I think that I click too much trying resizing windows and I
use too a weather conky: This conky goes to internet searching meteo datas and
picture of satellit every 13 min and picture is putting then on desktop. A very
pleasant prog and much pratique. I can send you more infos if you want. (see
pce jointe)
As I can tell you... Another thing : Are you working on a desktop that can use
Classic menus, Applys like Android (Android is too on linux) And finally it
will be fun to find our phone directly on our pc (all media inter connected
simply without cables). There is some applys very good like marmiton,
Metropolis (film an horaire des seances de cinema), ... Without using a
browser (or transparent) like microsoft begin to do. an icon and ... apply
comes without enter command line on browser or...

A+

[Bug 1301624] Re: cairo-dock crashed with SIGSEGV in _int_free()

2014-04-11 Thread Matthieu Baerts
 To this problem, I was trying to resize nautilus window, because since
about one month, it's impossible to resize window. Only full screen or a
little, too little window. No problem with others windows.

About this specific problem with Nautilus, it should be better now. The
latest version of Nautilus has been modified to have a better
integration (only) in Gnome-Shell session but the behaviour is now
broken on other sessions... except that Ubuntu devs have patched
Nautilus to be used in all other session and now the dock should use
this patched version :-)

 It's better for me using classic menus

I agree with you :-) I like our classical applications menu with the
search feature :-)

Thank you for these ideas!
You should no longer have this crash with the latest version of Cairo-Dock. I'm
going to close this bug report but feel free to reopen it if you still have
this crash.

PS: for you problem with VirtualBox, according to the version number, you're
using a version for Ubuntu 13.04 and you're using Ubuntu 14.04 ;-)
You can add the repository made for Ubuntu 13.10, it's maybe better than the
other one:

  $ sudo -v  echo deb
http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/debian saucy contrib | sudo
tee -a /etc/apt/sources.list.d/virtualbox.list  wget -q
http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/debian/oracle_vbox.asc -O- |
sudo apt-key add - sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install
virtualbox-4.3

[Bug 1306787] Re: White Boxes Around Icons when using GLamor accelleration

2014-04-11 Thread Matthieu Baerts
Hello and thank you for this bug report!

This is strange but I guess this bug is due to your video drivers...
(the dock is using OpenGL with transparency on a small part of the
desktop, it's not a common behaviour ;-) ).

Is it maybe possible to report this bug on FreeDesktop and add a link
here?

[Bug 1303731] Re: Status-Notifier plugin of Cairo-Dock is broken when using indicator-application-12.10.1+14.04.20140324 and newer

2014-04-08 Thread Matthieu Baerts
@Indicator Application devs: it seems that the object path
/org/ayatana/indicator/service is no longer available in the bus
com.canonical.indicator.application. Is it an expected change?

Cairo-Dock' Status-Notifier plugin is using it: it calls the Watch() method
of the interface org.ayatana.indicator.service and it checks if the result
(service_version) is bigger than 0.
Does it mean that the use of the Watch() method is no longer needed?

[Bug 1303731] Re: Status-Notifier plugin of Cairo-Dock is broken when using indicator-application-12.10.1+14.04.20140324 and newer

2014-04-07 Thread Matthieu Baerts
Hello Indicator Application devs,

On a Cairo-Dock session ($XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP == Unity ;
$DESKTOP_SESSION == cairo-dock), the Status-Notifier plugin of Cairo-
Dock is broken when using the version 12.10.1+14.04.20140324 (or newer)
of Indicator Application.

Do you have any idea why Cairo-Dock's plugin is broken now? It seems that
'nm-applet' and 'indicator-application-service' are correctly launched.
Is it possible that Indicator Application is now restricted to some sessions?
Or did you change some DBus signals?

(sorry, we are currently very busy... any help to fix this bug is
welcome ;-) )

@oswatanabe: as workaround you have 4 seconds to accept using the dock
with/without OpenGL or you can use one of this command to launch the
dock:

   $ cairo-dock -o## = with OpenGL

with it

[Bug 1296422] Re: não inicializa.

2014-03-25 Thread Matthieu Baerts
@fabounet: sorry, I think I found what was wrong yesterday but I had
problem with my WiFi connexion...

At startup, the Container Manager is registered and the init function
is launched even if there is no dock (e.g. when there is a GTK dialogue
at startup to choose if the user wants to use the OpenGL backend or
not). After 4 seconds, _check_composite_delayed() is called and if the
screen doesn't have any composite manager, _enable_fake_transparency()
is used and this line will crash the dock:

s_iPrevVisibility = g_pMainDock-iVisibility;

I guess that the init() function should be used after having creating all
docks, no need to be connected to the composited-changed signal, etc. before
that. As an easy fix, if 'g_pMainDock' is NULL when starting
_check_composite_delayed(), this function is delayed again =
https://bazaar.launchpad.net/~cairo-dock-team/cairo-dock-core/cairo-dock/revision/1732#src/gldit/cairo-dock-container.c
Or maybe we can add a reload() function which will be used after having
displayed the GTK dialogue?

What do you think about that? :-)

[Bug 1296131] Re: cairo-dock crashed with SIGSEGV in g_hash_table_lookup()

2014-03-23 Thread Matthieu Baerts
Is it maybe possible to add our Weekly ppa, install debug symbols of
the dock, its plugins and GTK3 and then get a new backtrace with GDB?

It's easy to do: simply by launching these commands from a terminal:

  $ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:cairo-dock-team/weekly
  $ sudo apt-get update
  $ sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
  $ sudo apt-get install gdb cairo-dock-core-dbg libgldi3-dbg
cairo-dock-plug-ins-dbg cairo-dock-plug-ins-integration-dbg libgtk-3-0-dbg

Then, quit Cairo-Dock and relaunch it with GDB as explained there:
http://www.glx-dock.org/ww_page.php?p=dddlang=en#1-Backtrace

Hello and thank you for this bug report!

What did you do exactly before the crash? Just starting the dock for the
first time?

@fabounet: in which cases g_pMainDock can be NULL?

[Bug 1296131] Re: cairo-dock crashed with SIGSEGV in g_hash_table_lookup()

2014-03-22 Thread Matthieu Baerts
Hello and thank you for this bug report!

Which GTK3 icons theme are you using? According to the stacktrace, the
dock is looking for a SVG icon (inode-directory) by using a GTK
function and then it crashes. I'm not sure that it's due to the dock.

2014-03-18 Thread Matthieu Baerts
Hello and thank you for this bug report!

I'm not sure this crash is due to the dock.
Do you have a crash when launching this command from a terminal? If no, what's
the output messages?

[Bug 1289704] Re: cairo-dock crashed with SIGSEGV in _int_free()

2014-03-10 Thread Matthieu Baerts
Strange :-/

Do you still have this freeze after having updated and rebooted your system?
If yes, is it maybe possible to get a backtrace of this crash/freeze with GDB?
Simply launch the dock with GDB and press Ctrl+C when the dock is freezing.
It's explained in details there:

[Bug 1289891] Re: cairo-dock crashed with SIGSEGV in malloc_consolidate()

2014-03-09 Thread Matthieu Baerts
Hello and thank you for this bug report!

Is there a freeze each time?
Here we have a stacktrace when quitting the dock (after having killed the dock
I guess). Is it possible to share with us a backtrace when the dock is frozen?
You just need to install the latest development version from our Weekly PPA,
then launch it with GDB, press Ctrl+C when you have this bug and you'll be
able to get a backtrace. It's explained in details there:

Hello and thank you for this bug report!

As apport said, it seems you need to upgrade your system first (and maybe
you'll need to reboot it).
Note that there is a crash when interacting with your video drivers...
