[Bug 1179109] Re: After upgrading to 13.04 Rhythmbox crashes, when trying to sync with a MP3 player and removes files from player

2013-05-16 Thread MaxNegro
I tried launching from command line, to see debugging output.

As soon as I click on my usb device following message appears on console:
(rhythmbox:24381): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_str_has_suffix: assertion `str != NULL'
failed

Rhythmbox is still functional. Selecting a playlist for syncing makes
the application close itself and the following message to appear:

(rhythmbox:24381): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: g_object_set_valist:
construct property encoding-target for object `RBTrackTransferBatch'
can't be set after construction

Then, it coredumps.

[Bug 961202] Re: A locked screen (blank screensaver) has compiz generating ca. 40 wakeups/second

I did a couple of tests on my setup. First of all, problem seems to
disappear if i use the radeon driver instead of fglrx one. Then i ssh-ed
in from another machine. This is the output of powertop with screen
blank (only first few lines copied, compiz using 100% of a core):

This the same, with screen active:

fglrx interrupts are absent in the first lot. Is this expected?

[Bug 749818] Re: [regresssion] kstars missing devices menu

2011-04-05 Thread MaxNegro
It seems the problem depends on kstars build dependencies. While
libindi-dev is specified among build-deps, the cmake recipe checks for a
version = 0.6.2, while only 0.6.1 is available in natty.

Relevant error line from cmake while trying to build from sources:

-- Could NOT find libindi. pkg-config indicates that libindi = 0.6.2 is

[Bug 439448] Re: Visual corruption affecting several panel applets

2010-10-17 Thread MaxNegro
Another workaround is to change the current theme (via
system/preferences/appearance) to another one. Once done, the panel get
drawn correctly and you can switch back to the old one. This approach
has the advantage that it can be used also where the panel is locked
down (as in UNE edition).

As a side note, if you have to switch off in a hurry and are not able to
use any of the workarounds proposed here, I think it is safe to hit the
power button: it should be linked via acpi messages to the shutdown
dialog.

2010-09-08 Thread MaxNegro
Same problem here (lucid up-to-date, different machines). I also tried
starting with an empy couchdb, still fails with TypeError:
pair_with_host() takes exactly 4 arguments (3 given) on the machine
listening for invitation. The other one gets the following:

self.factory.auth_complete_cb(remote_hostname, remote_hostid, d)
  File /usr/bin/desktopcouch-pair, line 144, in auth_completed
pair_with_host(remote_host, remote_id, remote_oauth, self.parent)
  File /usr/bin/desktopcouch-pair, line 809, in pair_with_host
buttons=(gtk.STOCK_OK, gtk.RESPONSE_OK,))
exceptions.TypeError: parent must be a GtkWindow or None

In the latter machine, the pairing seems ok, even if the window is not
updated. Exiting and re-entering the application gets the pair in the
list.

[Bug 445123] Re: No GUI option to disable face browser

2010-03-26 Thread MaxNegro
Please, this _bug_ is standing since karmic. It introduced a regression
in user experience and renders gdm login unsuitable for corporate users

[Bug 445123] Re: No GUI option to disable face browser

2010-03-26 Thread MaxNegro
Rick, Robbie, I'm obviously in no position to sponsor the release of a
fix for this particular bug. Point is this is not a desired feature:
this is a major regression that is outstanding since karmic, and that is
going to go unfix in LTS. I understand the feature freeze, but I think
that simply ignoring the problem is NOT going to make Lucis ship with
the kind of excellent quality our users deserve. My opinion, of course.

[Bug 364918] Re: libindi0 conflicts with indi

2009-04-22 Thread MaxNegro
Actually libindi _should_ be required in jaunty, in order to have
telescope control support in kstars. At the moment kstars depends on
package indi, but those functionalities are currently broken in kstars
package.

Probably best strategy should be replace indi with libindi and have
again an indi enabled kstars :)

[Bug 359517] [NEW] [jaunty][regression] kstars does not support indi

2009-04-11 Thread MaxNegro
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kstars

Ubuntu jaunty (development branch)
Release:9.04
(updated today, 04/11/2009)

Package kstars 4:4.2.2-0ubuntu1

Distributed package, while depending on indi, does not provides support
for telescope mounts (menu not present). This is particularly bad for me
since I'm involved with a local observatory and we're in the process of
migrating from a windows based telescope control facility to a linux
based one.

kstars in 8.10 did provide us needed functionality, so this problem
looks like a regression to me.

I've tried recompiling kstars from source, removing dep from indi and
adding libindi-dev, and it seems to work.

Dunno. I don't have enough expertise to trace down the problem to its

involved...

[Bug 293189] [NEW] [intrepid] [regression] white screen using compiz with radeon 9550 and ati opensource driver

2008-11-03 Thread MaxNegro
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-driver-ati

I just upgraded to Intrepid from Feisty. On Feisty I had compiz enabled
and working. After upgrade, when I logged in I obtained a white screen.
Compiz seemed to work, expose showed some windows, except that all I
could see was plain white.

I actually had SKIP_CHECKS=yes in .config/compiz/compiz-manager (the pci
ID got somehow blacklisted but after all, it was working... :P),
removing this I'm no longer able to start compiz, since it detects the
presence of a software rasterizer.

My card is: 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc
RV350 AS [Radeon 9550]

I tried experimenting some tweaks to xorg.conf, but to no avail.

I'm going to attach some logs to this report, but feel free to ask for
something I may have forgotten.

[Bug 293189] Re: [intrepid] [regression] white screen using compiz with radeon 9550 and ati opensource driver

2008-11-03 Thread MaxNegro
ups. You caught me with my pants down. Strange thing is: I installed
fglrx for a test AFTER upgrading and finding the white screen in compiz,
removed it since I was unable to play videos in xv and (my bad) failed
to reset my computer (or unload kernel module). Anyway now it's working,
and I'm unable to reproduce the white screen, so maybe something got
installed by mistake during upgrade, and got disinstalled while I was
experimenting?

Feel free to close the bug, obviously.

2008-10-06 Thread MaxNegro
I can confirm the same problem, after updating to intrepid beta. Kernel

initialized.

I have a Flybook A33i with 124a:168b AirVast wifi module (it's a sort of

Booting with 2.6.24-1 it works flawlessly.

[Bug 151786] [gutsy] iftab migration fails if mac addresses are uppercase

2007-10-11 Thread MaxNegro
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: udev

I think the summary says it all, but anyway... :)

I had the following interfaces in /etc/iftab, and with feisty this was
ok:

eth0 mac 00:0E:7B:A2:F7:2C
eth1 mac 00:0E:35:A9:3A:FF

When upgrading to gutsy, a couple of days ago, /etc/iftab was converted
in /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules. Migration script commented
out said interfaces in iftab, and copied mac addresses verbatim in new
file. Then, it (i presume) added a couple more interfaces (eth2 and
eth3) with same mac addresses, only lower case.

At boot, my interfaces were then named eth2 and eth3, breaking some of
my previous configurations. A quick edit on 70-persistent-net.rules
switched all back to normality, anyway I think this case should be
addressed properly by upgrade process, in order not to confuse users.

Thank you for your time.

[Bug 82242] Re: speedstep-centrino.ko: missing kernel module in kernel 2.6.20-5.7

2007-10-10 Thread MaxNegro
Hi. I have a Toshiba Satellite SA50-111, with Centrino 1.6GHz. While
stepping was working flawlessly in feisty, I tried upgrading to gutsy
just to discover that this was no more the case. Tried your patch on

BTW, in debian/rules was stated --enable-whiteboard, but config failed

Anyway, as Kees Kook wrote, this is going to be solved with 0.45 upload,
so all is good and life is beatyful. :)

Only one last thing: should 0.45 not be ready in time for feisty

have saved me quite a time when trying to understand why whiteboard was

strange resolutions? (mine usually works at 1024x600)

[Bug 67763] After dist-upgrading to edgy, segfault in configuring linux-restricted modules

2006-10-23 Thread MaxNegro
Public bug reported:

I upgraded to edgy a couple of days ago, and on one of my machines, apt-
get is unable to configure linux-restricted-modules due to a segfault in
executing depmod -a -F System.map-2.6.17-10-generic 2.6.17-generic.

Can't say why it's acting like that, anyway I recompiled module-init-
tools with debugging symbols and obtained the following:

(gdb) handle SIG33 pass nostop noprint
SignalStop Print Pass to program Description
SIG33 NoNo Yes Real-time event 33
(gdb) run -a -q -F /boot/System.map-2.6.17-10-generic 2.6.17-10-generic
Starting program: /sbin/depmod -a -q -F /boot/System.map-2.6.17-10-generic
2.6.17-10-generic

Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.
0x0804a1e4 in main (argc=6, argv=0xbfca9fd4) at ../depmod.c:151
151 ptr = strchr(line, '\n');
(gdb) thread apply all bt
(gdb)
(gdb) backtrace
#0 0x0804a1e4 in main (argc=6, argv=0xbfca9fd4) at ../depmod.c:151

Hope it helps.

[Bug 67763] Re: segfault in configuring linux-restricted modules

2006-10-23 Thread MaxNegro
Ok, found the cause. I misconfigured lilo.conf and so System.map got
corrupted. Anyway I think assigning a char to a pointer that could be
null is still a bug. (maybe using strchrnul could be the case?) :)

[Bug 61981] Re: toshiba_acpi: ktoshkeyd initialisation failed

2006-10-03 Thread MaxNegro
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 61979 ***

Don't know about base install, but on my system (toshiba sa50) upgrading
from dapper to edgy renders the system not bootable (oops during init
phase, no X, no login). Same symptoms reported here. Booting with
acpi=off solves the issue, but being a laptop I don't think this is
recommended solution. I'm going to try with the suggestion above, in
order to disable only toshiba_acpi. Anyway I think importance should be
bumped to high, since the system is no more able to boot, and works
flawlessly with 2.6.15 (dapper version).

[Bug 63878] gnome-netstatus applet wrong size

2006-10-03 Thread MaxNegro
Public bug reported:

After upgrading from dapper to edgy, gnome-netstatus applet started
taking up way too much space in tray bar. Problem seems related to Human
gnome theme, all others I tried functioning as expected. I tried
manually changing canvas sizes of /usr/share/icons/Human/scalable/apps
/gnome-netstatus-0-24.svg and others, and it does affect screen
rendering, but I didn't investigate too much on this part.
