It could also be because of DNSsec. I have seen HTTP working, though HTTPS failing. [Bug 1518457] Re: kswapd0 100% CPU usage
Fresh install of 16.04 on EC2 Nano instance, and kswapd0 takes most of the CPU when running a job with high CPU and high IO. I've resorted to running the following command every minute as a cron task: # m hdom mon dow command *****echo 3 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches That works for 10 or 15 seconds, but after that kswapd0 comes back and hogs the CPU again. I'm using less than 20% of available memory, shouldn't need to swap. See attached screenshot of top at the 25-second mark after dropping caches. ** Attachment added: "Screenshot from 2016-05-19 15:25:29.png" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1518457/+attachment/4666557/+files/Screenshot%20from%202016-05-19%2015%3A25%3A29.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1518457 Title: kswapd0 100% CPU usage To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1518457/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1311366] [NEW] Upgrade to 7u55 version
Public bug reported: I wonder if you will upgrade the openjdk-7 packages to the 7u55 version. The 7u55 version fixes multiple bugs. One of them ( https://bugs.openjdk.java.net/browse/JDK-8024830 ) would cause SEGV or, worse, silent corruption in the index term vectors of Lucene. [Bug 1293296] [NEW] Desktop spontaneously logs out a few seconds after logging in
Public bug reported: Steps to reproduce: 1) Leave system idle until screen locks and monitor goes dark 2) Wiggle the mouse to wake up the monitor 3) Enter password to unlock the screen Automatically locks the screen again within 5 to 15 seconds and monitor goes dark. Unlocking the screen a second time works fine, and the spontaneous screen lock doesn't happen as long as I'm actively using the system. But if I let it go idle again and the screen locks, then the first unlock attempt only lasts a few seconds before having to re-enter the password. [Bug 671457] Re: Hard freeze on resume after suspend to ram, Atom D525
This bug is not distribution-specific I see the same problem with various kernels on the ga-d525-tud booting a gentoo system. Kernels I tested included 2.6.35,2.6.36 and 2.6.37 (all directly from kernel.org). I always tried to suspend with no drivers loaded and insided the shell of an initial ram disk. I had the same problems: kernel panic on resume, nothing from debug traces. The problem is the same either on bios-version f1 which I had before and on Version f3 which I flashed just now. I am running the system via serial console too, which has so far not helped, sadly. I found another reference to this problem on: http://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-pm/msg22828.html Any hint is welcome. [Bug 158590] Re: [Gutsy] Erratic volume control behaviour
I started having this in my fresh install of Hardy. I do not have USB sound. I have a PCI Razer Barracuda (CMedia CMI8788), attached to surround speakers. For me the erratic volume control behavior was only associated with the Master channel, and happened whether I used keyboard volume keys or mouse to adjust. I got around this problem by setting the master channel to full and hiding it in volume control, so only PCM showed. I then right-clicked on the Notification Area volume applet - preferences and switched to PCM. I then went to System - Preferences - Sound and chose PCM at the bottom as the track controlled by keyboard. [Bug 188528] [NEW] gedit + vala syntax highlighting problem
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gedit When a .vala file starts with a comment, not all of the syntax will be colored correctly. For an example, use this code from http://live.gnome.org/Vala/BasicSample /* Basic Vala Sample Code */ using GLib; public class Sample : Object { public Sample () { } public void run () { stdout.printf (Hello World\n); } static int main (string[] args) { var sample = new Sample (); sample.run (); return 0; } } Save as sample.vala. To get proper highlighting, you will have to delete the comment and any newlines before the first line of code, and then save. If you insert the comment again and then save, the syntax will again lose highlighting. This holds true for /* multiline */ and // singleline comments. Re: [Bug 70077] Re: Random hangups
Hello Brian, no, it is not solved. It was a hardware issue with Ubuntu. The hardware was flawless, but had, for some reason i never understood, problems with Ubuntu. So we switched the hardware and all is fine since then. Not to mention that the hardware is now used on SuSE system without any problem. But again; no clue whatever... After all that trouble i was just happy to find a solution. [Bug 53772] Re: system freeze/kernel panic with kernel 2.6.17 (probably due to via-agp)
Thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately, I can't test it as I have finally taken the eay route out and removed apg and via from my system : I have replaced the motherboard with a new one with an intel chipset and a PCI-express card. -- system freeze/kernel panic with kernel 2.6.17 (probably due to via-agp) https://launchpad.net/bugs/53772 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 53772] Re: system freeze/kernel panic with kernel 2.6.17 (probably due to via-agp)
Some more information: I have now deleted the via-agp.ko module; agp is now of course disabled. Gnome now still freezes after about 1 minute, but differently: applets are still working (showing activity) , I can move the mouse, but I cannot right or left click - there are no actions to my mouse clicks (no action when clicking on menus, no right click menu, no desktop select area, no wheel scroll, etc...). Keyboard still works ( I can ctrl-alt-f2 to get to the shell and come back to ctrl-alt-f7). So I then kill X with ctrl-alt-del, login again, and after about 1 minute the same happens again. As I said previously, the same happens with via-agp loaded, but then when I ctrl-alt-del to kill the server I get a kernel panic/complete system freeze); so this is not the case when via-agp is not loaded. I'm once again back to the perfectly working kernel 2.6.15... -- system freeze/kernel panic with kernel 2.6.17 (probably due to via-agp) https://launchpad.net/bugs/53772 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 53772] system freeze/kernel panic with kernel 2.6.17 (probably due to via-agp)
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.17-5-amd64-xeon EVERYTHING WORKS FINE WITH THE DAPPER 2.6.15 KERNEL IN EDGY. Gnome freezes after 1-2 minutes with the 2.6.17 kernel (now 2.6.17-5-amd64-xeon). System freezes when logging out of gnome. Kernel panic with ctrl-alt-del when gnome is frozen. This happens with the nv and the nvidia drivers. I suppose this is due to a bug in the kernel via-agp driver, because I had this same problem in the standard DAPPER system after installing the edgy 2.6.17 kernel and also when booting from a self compiled 2.6.17 vanilla kernel in dapper. After having followed the 2.6.17 development cycle and trying 2.6.17-rc- mm (and -rc) kernels before and after this new via-agp driver was introduced, I am now almost convinced that this is due to the new via- agp driver introduced in the 2.6.17 kernel. The system was stable when I removed agp support in my self-compiled 2.6.17 kernel. My motherboard is an Asrock 775dual-880pro (via 880pro chipset). The via-agp kernel driver recognizes it as a via 880ULTRA agp (but not 880PRO ?) AGP does not work with the 2.6.15 kernel (as there is no support for my agp chipset); I get 5000 fps in glxgears. AGP works with the 2.6.17 kernel; I get 12000+ fps in glxgears, but the system freezes after 1-2 minutes (and kernel panics). I am now running edgy with the dapper 2.6.15 kernel. Everything works fine (except that agp is disabled). This is a CRITICAL bug. Please fix, or ask the kernel agp driver developer to fix this bug. ** Affects: linux-source-2.6.17 (Ubuntu) Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- system freeze/kernel panic with kernel 2.6.17 (probably due to via-agp) https://launchpad.net/bugs/53772 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 53772] Re: system freeze/kernel panic with kernel 2.6.17 (probably due to via-agp)
I just want to add, that I know that agp in working with the 2.6.17 kernel because: 1. cat /proc/drivers/nvidia/agp/status is showing that agp is enabled at 8x (it is disabled with the 2.6.15 kernel) and 2. I get 12000-13000 fps with glxgears (5000 fps with the 2.6.15 kernel) The 2.6.17 kernel sources have this new via-agp for via 880ultra driver that was absent in the 2.6.15 kernel. Previously, in dapper, I have manually patched the 2.6.15 kernel with the new via-agp and agpgart drivers extracted from the 2.6.17-rc, 2.6.17-mm and 2.6.17 kernel tree. The result with this patched 2.6.15 kernel was the SAME as with the 2.6.17 kernel (agp was working, but I had freezes and kernel panics). -- system freeze/kernel panic with kernel 2.6.17 (probably due to via-agp) https://launchpad.net/bugs/53772 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
