[Bug 1528007] [NEW] bcmwl driver locks up system

2015-12-20 Thread Miek Gieben
Public bug reported:

Hardware:

% lspci |grep -i BCM
03:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4360 802.11ac Wireless
Network Adapter (rev 03)

% dmesg|grep BCM
[6.143332] Bluetooth: hci0: BCM: Read verbose config info failed (-16)
[ 1676.017551] wlan0: Broadcom BCM43a0 802.11 Hybrid Wireless Controller
6.30.223.248 (r487574)

I sometimes see weird lockup in the kernel:
 1778.501345] WARNING: CPU: 3 PID: 6455 at
/build/linux-jHWiKd/linux-3.13.0/kernel/watchdog.c:24
5 watchdog_overflow_callback+0x9c/0xd0()
[ 1778.501347] Watchdog detected hard LOCKUP on cpu 3

This happens with kernel 3.19 *and* kernel 4.2. Unloading the `wl`
module makes the system more stable, so it's def. this module.

[Bug 1161962] Re: XPS 13 wakes up from suspend spontaneously

2015-06-28 Thread Miek Gieben
Fiddling with /proc/acpi/wakeup and kernel 4.1 seems to fix the
spontaneous wakeups on my macbook. However after a day, acpid seems to
see events like LID_CLOSE. Newer Ubuntu version will use systemd for
suspending so I am not sure what benefits I get from debugging this.

2013-08-20 Thread Miek Gieben
[ Quoting joseph.salisbury@canonica in [Bug 1213795] Re: newer kernels
(3 ]
I started a kernel bisect between v3.9 final and v3.10-rc1. The kernel
bisect will require testing of about 7-10 test kernels.

I built the first test kernel, up to the following commit:
 73287a43cc79ca06629a88d1a199cd283f42456a

The test kernel can be downloaded from:
 http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~jsalisbury/lp1213795

Can you test that kernel and report back if it has the bug or not. I
will build the next test kernel based on your test results.

with nosmp,libata.force=noncq - crash
with smp - hang in Booting Node 0, Processor #1

So fail for this bisect.

[Bug 1196730] Re: Fn key doesn't work in raring on MacBook Air 6,2

2013-08-20 Thread Miek Gieben
(I also own a Macbook air 2013 model)

I tested this kernel. Needed to manually load the hid-apple, didn't work after
that.
After login in again in X, neither fn-F1 or F1 set the brightness (I just loads
the terminal help program).

[Bug 1213795] [NEW] newer kernels (3.10+) don't boot on MacBook Air 6.1

2013-08-19 Thread Miek Gieben
Public bug reported:

The current raring kernel boots (with nosmp and libata.force=noncq),
newer kernels don't boot at all. They hang with ramdisk loading and
nothing seems to happen. This is difficult to debug, as it happens so
early in the boot.

[Bug 947697] Re: Atheros AR9285 Wireless on Ubuntu 12.04 is slow, unstable and has a weak signal.

2012-08-24 Thread Miek Gieben
Well, spoke too soon. There are still disconnects -- allthough less. But
also annoying stalls, prolly during re-keying events.

And another one. In an Arch forum I saw someone mentioning compat-wireless
Linux modules and you should install that.
Well I did that and that seems to fix things! I'm back to network-manager after
a

sudo apt-get install linux-backports-modules-cw-3.3-3.2.0-26-generic
reboot

With which wireless card is this? I have a Network controller: Atheros
Communications Inc. AR9485 Wireless Network Adapter (rev 01) and are
still seeing this... Tested with upstream kernel 3.4.3, 3.5-rc3, 3.5-rc4

[Bug 773154] Re: Atheros AR9285 extremely slow unstable

2012-06-25 Thread Miek Gieben
OK, *another* follow-up. Installed wicd instead of network-manager. That
works!

Reverted kernel back to 3.2.0-25 (i.e. stock), nohwcrypt is 0 (off).

The background scanning and the ath9k module are at the root of this
problem, installing wicd is a work around.

Running 3.2.0-25 (stock ubuntu 12.04) kernel again with attach network-
manager patch. This seems to solve the problem for me (i.e. sofar).

See attached patch for 0.9.4.0 of network manager.

This bug is missing log files that will aid in diagnosing the problem.
From a terminal window please run:

Gtk-WARNING **: Theme parsing error: misc.css:16:11: Not using units is
deprecated. Assuming 'px'.
No packages found matching linux.
ERROR: KeyError('ProblemType',)

Gdk-ERROR **: The program 'apport-gtk' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadRequest (invalid request code or no such operation)'.

  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the GDK_SYNCHRONIZE environment
variable to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

There is a bug in the openjdk and/or the plugin for the browser that makes the

*

[Bug 562083] [NEW] tar: Record size = 8 blocks

2010-04-13 Thread Miek Gieben
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: tar

When creating a tar archive with git-archive. I get a good tar archive, which
unpacks on all distros I tried it, expect
on Ubuntu Lucid:
% apt-show-versions -p tar
tar/lucid uptodate 1.22-2

% tar tvf rdup-1.1.5.tar.bz2
tar: Record size = 8 blocks

And nothing happens. Ubuntu Karmic's tar just works.

[Bug 562083] Re: tar: Record size = 8 blocks

2010-04-13 Thread Miek Gieben
It is not something in git-archive, but it is hard to reproduce. I did
spotted a bug in a archive creation script. If I do a

tar cfz archive.tar.bz2 directory # name the file .bz2, but use the
-z (gzip) compression flag

unpack

tar xvf archive.tar.bz2

sometimes you get the warning mentioned in this bugreport, but not
always. If I do this on some test directory everything works ok.

[Bug 322210] Re: [needs-packaging] PPD for Dymo LabelWriter 400 not complete

2009-10-31 Thread Miek Gieben
You can just download the source of cups: apt-get source cups and get the
dymo.ppd file from there. It is located
in the ppd subdirectory and called dymo.ppd. At least for the dymo 400 (which I
have) I can say it works ok.
