Same problem here:

~$ uname -a
Linux Mihai 2.6.28-12-server #43-Ubuntu SMP Fri May 1 20:28:32 UTC 2009 i686

Luckily..if I boot the computer with a cd in the drive..then everything
works...

Otherwise no luck in reading anything.

[Bug 358067] [NEW] k3b brasero fail but nautilus dvd writing works

2009-04-08 Thread Mihai Tanasescu
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: k3b

Hello,

I'm using Ubuntu Intrepid 8.10 with linux kernel server 2.6.27-11 version.
My DVD Writer is an LG HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4167B DL13 (DL13 is the latest
firmware..I just upgraded today).

>From the various tests I did I can conclude:
1) On Windows it works no prob so the drive is not defective
2) On Linux : it works with the nautilus integrated cd writing app but if I use
K3B, Brasero, Gnome Baker, etc then I get:

:-[ wr...@lba=220h failed with SK=0h/ASC=00h/ACQ=02h]: Input/output error
:-( write failed: Input/output error
/dev/scd0: flushing cache
:-[ SYNCHRONOUS FLUSH CACHE failed with SK=3h/ASC=A0h/ACQ=80h]: Input/output
error

and everything fails.

The whole output from K3B for example is at:
http://pastebin.com/mb087ff5

I have no idea how to solve this any longer and I suspect a bug in the
dvd-rw tools package.

The data about my system has been included in the all.txt file separated
by new lines for the various outputs(dmesg, lspci, etc).

Thank you.

[Bug 328432] Re: k3b in kubuntu 8.10 freezes at 16x and does not trottle down

2009-04-08 Thread Mihai Tanasescu
A similar problem happens to me.

I have an LG DVD-Writer (attached in the comment all the dmesg, etc outputs)
and if I use k3b with auto speed setting then my disc gets damaged with the
writer only attempting to start writing but never successfully doing it.
It's like speeding up then down and so for 3-4 times before it gives an error.

Manually setting the write speed to 12x makes it work.

In Windows I never had this issue so I suspect my drive doesn't have a
problem..but k3b might.

Can you help ?

Real cause that I found for this right now via the console is:

so..in fact no audio setting gets saved across reboots.

Can you fix this ?

Again some tests:

NTFS -> reiserfs copying --> same error after 1-2 GB transferred; transfer
works ok also afterwards but I get messages like that in the logs from time to
time.
Same happens for NTFS -> XFS copying.
ReiserFS -> XFS copying generates similar messages but after 4-5 Gb transferred.

I don't know what else I can do.
It seems like a kernel issue.

[Bug 351123] [NEW] Changing / activating switches options is not permanent across reboots

2009-03-29 Thread Mihai Tanasescu
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-volume-control-pulse

Hello,

I just installed Intrepid on my system.
Setup is as follows:
Ubuntu 32bit 8.10, 4gb Ram, linux-server kernel image 2.6.27.11 (because of PAE
support to see all RAM).
Partitions are like this:
3aware hardware RAID card - 2 x HDD 1 TB (RAID-1 hardware); LVM on top of this
for snapshot functionality
Partitions:
/boot
LVM:
/ - reiserfs
/home - xfs
/storage - xfs
swap

Sound card is an old Audigy 1.
Output is analog (although there is also a plug for digital).

By default the volume control shows:
Mic Boost (+20DB) - off
Audigy Analog/Digital Output Jack - on

I change Mic Boost to on and Audigy Analog.. to off (otherwise I have no
sound).

Now if I reboot the settings are changed back to what they were before.
Seems that no matter what I input there, it doesn't stay with me after the
restart.

Can you help ?
On a quick search I saw no similar bug already opened..correct me if I was
wrong and sorry for the trouble.

Thanks,
Mihai

[Bug 351107] [NEW] Intrepid NetworkManager not saving static IP

2009-03-29 Thread Mihai Tanasescu
Public bug reported:

My ISP at home provides me with a static IP, so I went into the Network Manager
(it sees 2 network cards because my MB has 2 of those on it) set the IP address
up, it connected, everything was ok.
After a restart, it loses the setting and it's back to square one and DHCP on
that network card.

I saw other people reporting similar problems with the NetworkManager
here but I didn't manage to locate a bug opened..so here am I trying to
do it.

Hope this helps and please take a look when you have the time.

I attached the logs in all.log separated by newlines.

Thanks,
Mihai

[Bug 351089] Re: kswapd Bad page state in process

2009-03-29 Thread Mihai Tanasescu
Don't know if this has anything to do with it..but I was copying files
from older NTFS drives to /storage (which is XFS) when by chance I ran a
dmesg and started seeing these appear over and over.

I didn't try to reproduce it by copying from another source yet.
