2024-04-04 Thread Mikael Wikman
Amazing work @vanvugt, and thank you for the speedy update, holidays,
and all. The fix is working great on my 23.10 system.

Is there any chance we might see a fix for 23.04 as well?

No need to reinstall the OS. I've posted a script for downgrading mutter
packages for Ubuntu 23.10, 23.04, and 22.04 here:

[Bug 1799679] Re: Nvidia driver causes Xorg to use 100% CPU and huge lag when dragging OpenGL app windows

2022-05-09 Thread Mikael Bendiksen
Having this issue as same as Kes describes.
Can be reproduced under Xorg environment running Nvidia 510 drivers and Ubuntu
22.04.
Did not have this issue under 20.04.

If I have a youtube video running the chrome window lags and the
terminal window lags while moving them. If I have this page open it
moves without lag.

I tried to disable Desktop Icons NG, it helped the issue a bit, but there is
still extreme lag.
Using Wayland seems to solve the issue, but there are still programs like OBS
that I need to use that can't capture the desktop ( not related to this ).

Running glxgears also give me lag while moving the window.

Let me know if you need me to try something specific that might help you
get more data out.

[Bug 1874515] Re: 20.04 does not bring up certain bridges

2020-04-28 Thread Mikael via ubuntu-bugs
Modifying /etc/network/interfaces to include the following post-up
completed networking startup successfully;

auto int0.51
iface int0.51 inet manual
vlan-raw-device int0
pre-up ifconfig $IFACE up
post-up brctl addbr br_nat_ext
post-down ifconfig $IFACE down

auto br_nat_ext
iface br_nat_ext inet manual
bridge_ports int0.51
bridge_maxwait 5
pre-up ifconfig $IFACE up
post-down ifconfig $IFACE down

auto int0.500
iface int0.500 inet manual
vlan-raw-device int0
pre-up ifconfig $IFACE up
post-up brctl addbr br_int_500
post-down ifconfig $IFACE down

auto br_int_500
iface br_int_500 inet manual
bridge_ports int0.500
bridge_maxwait 5
pre-up ifconfig $IFACE up
post-down ifconfig $IFACE down

Interestingly enough the dhclient also survived (see previous update) when
networking completed successfully;

root@fancy:/data# ps auxf | grep -i dhclient
root1264  0.0  0.0  99896  5700 ?Ssl  21:59   0:00
/sbin/dhclient -1 -4 -v -i -pf /run/dhclient.br_ext_prim.pid -lf
/var/lib/dhcp/dhclient.br_ext_prim.leases -I -df
/var/lib/dhcp/dhclient6.br_ext_prim.leases br_ext_prim

Both prior boots to this one had no running dhclient after the bridges failed
to come up.

This should imho be unrelated.

[Bug 1874515] Re: 20.04 does not bring up certain bridges

2020-04-28 Thread Mikael via ubuntu-bugs
The difference between bridges managing to come up correctly and the
ones which does not seem to be that bridges defined as "inet manual"
fails and the ones defined as "inet static" succeeds. An example of a
bridge coming up correctly with a similar setup without the post-up
brctl addbr command;

auto int0.70
iface int0.70 inet manual
vlan-raw-device int0
pre-up ifconfig $IFACE up
post-down ifconfig $IFACE down

auto br_nat
iface br_nat inet static
bridge_ports int0.70
bridge_maxwait 5
address 172.X.X.X/24
up ip ro add 10.X.X.X/10 via 172.X.X.X dev $IFACE

So two conclusions;

1) Bridges configured with bridge_ports with interfaces defined as "inet
manual" while the bridge is also configured as "inet manual" will fail
to come up correctly.

2) If a bridge fails to come up with the inet manual directive the
dhclient for br_ext_prim also dies after receiving one lease.

Reservation on #1 that this could probably also be true with an "inet static"
interface for a bridge configured as "inet manual".

Both of the above works 100% fine in 18.04.

Also noted behavior. After updating to 20.04 DHCP leases are not renewed
after boot. Unsure if related to above issues, but might be in the
ballpark.

[Bug 1874515] [NEW] 20.04 does not bring up certain bridges

2020-04-23 Thread Mikael via ubuntu-bugs
Public bug reported:

After upgrading from a fully patched ubuntu-server 18.04 to 20.04 and
rebooting I noticed that some of my bridge interfaces defined in
/etc/network/interfaces would not come up while others would.

Bridges brought up at boot:

br_ext_prim
br_ext_sec
br_int_50
br_nat

Bridges missing:

br_int_500
br_nat_ext

Relevant log from 18.04 prior to upgrade:

No changes applied to /etc/network/interfaces between boots. No complaints from
upgrade process otherwise.

Attaching a slightly redacted interfaces file from the system in the
ticket aswell.

Thanks :)

2019-10-21 Thread Mikael Glandberger
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1848790 ***

The new patch is working fine connected to my HDMI monitor/TV. I also
removed the temp patch using only 3GB ram, rebooted and all my memory is
now available (Pi4 4GB). Will future updates break the patch or is all
good? Thanks you so much!

[Bug 1814532] Re: Big samba memory leak fixed upstream

2019-02-04 Thread Mikael Hartzell
On top of the original Samba bug report
(https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13372) it says this affects
*Samba 4.1 and newer* or am I interpreting it incorrectly ?

At least I am experiencing the same behavior on Ubuntu 14.04.5 Server
with Samba 4.3.11. Sad if it won't help us with our problem.

The offending code was submitted to Samba at 29th Jun 2017, you can find
the commit here: https://gitlab.com/samba-
team/samba/commit/bd9285b19741128bae501b721d9e63dd9a9bd833   If you
search for the source file name: source3/modules/vfs_default.c on the
page.

Maybe the date when the bug appeared sheds some light which releases
really are affected.

[Bug 1813765] [NEW] Freeze on Lenovo laptop in dock station

2019-01-29 Thread Mikael Ståldal
Public bug reported:

I have a Lenovo T470s laptop with a Thinkpad Ultra dock.

After upgrading kernel to 4.15.0-44, the system freeze and has to be

I downgraded the kernel to 4.15.0-43 and the problem went away.

[Bug 1803808]

2018-11-20 Thread Mikael Kanstrup
Hi,

I was trying to find a cause for this crash before finding this bug
reported at
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/wireshark/+bug/1803808. I
added comments about my findings and wanted to add it here too as for me
it's not clear where the root cause lies.

I'm running Ubuntu 16.04 and experience the problem with latest
Wireshark on master branch. I noticed it a few weeks back but didn't
find time to investigate it until now. Bisecting the problem I found
that the crash was introduced with the following change in Wireshark:

2cfa301 Qt: Create the main display filter combo sooner.

This change is also present on 2.6 from 2.6.3 and on cherry-picked as:

3a0da5f Qt: Create the main display filter combo sooner.

[Bug 1803808] Re: wireshark crashed with SIGSEGV in QIcon::~QIcon() under Unity

2018-11-20 Thread Mikael Kanstrup
Hi,

I was trying to find a cause for this crash before finding this bug item
reported here. After reading the comments I wanted to give some info on
what I've found.

I'm running Ubuntu 16.04 and experience the problem with latest

Removing appmenu-qt5 package didn't help for me. Neither did installing
gtk2-engines-oxygen package.

I have tested all kernels in the list (except 4.6 which link leads to
404) and the first kernel with the bug is v4.15 Final.

Kernel v4.15 also seems to be the first kernel with the exception table
in net/ipv6/route.c.

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

  IPv6 PMTU discovery fails when using source-specific routing on Ubuntu
  18.04.

  I have attached a test case called pmtu-sads.sh which is based on
  tools/testing/selftests/net/pmtu.sh in the linux source.

  I have verified that the test fails on:
  Ubuntu 18.04 with 4.15.0-30.32
  Ubuntu 18.04 with 4.17.0-041700.201806041953
  Ubuntu 18.04 with 4.18.3-041803.201808180530

  The test succeeds on Ubuntu 16.04 with 4.4.0.131.137 which makes it a
  regression.

  System information:

[Bug 1785233] [NEW] When creating custom property clicking add property clears the last edited line

2018-08-03 Thread Mikael Hjelm
Public bug reported:

The button Add Property clears any non saved text. This is counter
intuitive and if one wishes to add another property without exiting the
properties window the add property should only add another row, not
clear any text.

Tried adding more rows at a time but if you click Add Property it clears
all of them.

If there is a previous property the add property does not clear it.

2018-07-18 Thread Mikael Gueck
Tested the proposed fix version 20180516ubuntu1~18.04.1 in a Docker
container, and it DID fix the issue, both as an upgrade to a previously
installed package version 20170930ubuntu1, and as a first install.

Verification steps: Ran the TestHttps program from
https://git.mikael.io/mikaelhg/broken-docker-jdk9-cacerts. It
successfully completed without throwing an exception, after the upgrade
to 20180516ubuntu1~18.04.1.

Hi,
I'm experiencing the same/similar issue when using the latest Puppet module

What fails?

Checking the puppet module code, there seems to have been a similar issue in

[Bug 1750325] [NEW] X crashing due to intel_do_flush_locked failed: Bad address

2018-02-18 Thread Mikael
Public bug reported:

I have an issue where I suddenly get logged out from Gnome. I'm working
on something and suddenly there is a black screen for a few seconds and
then I end up at the login screen. There is no issue logging in again
but all application has been closed and data lost since nothing is
saved. I get this when my computer has been running for a few days. I
can't tie it to any activity and it is not when put a lot of load on the
computer. I didn't have these issues when I was on kernel 4.10. Is there
any logs I can view to investigate the issue?

I tested the proposed package on Zesty (libpcl-dev amd64
1.8.0+dfsg1-4ubuntu4.17.04.1) with the test case mentioned above and it
fixes this bug

[Bug 1708971] Re: libceres-dev needs rebuild because of mismatching eigen version

2017-08-16 Thread Mikael Arguedas
SRU:
[Impact]

 * This bug prevents users to find and link against ceres libraries
 * There is no upload required as rebuilding the package is enough to fix the
bug

[Test Case]

 * install libceres-dev
   * apt-get update && apt-get install libceres-dev
 * mkdir -p /tmp/test_ceres/src && cd /tmp/test_ceres
 * echo "find_package(Ceres REQUIRED)" > CMakeLists.txt
 * mkdir build && cd build
 * cmake ..
This produces the error message:
```
CMake Error at /usr/lib/cmake/ceres/CeresConfig.cmake:88 (message):
  Failed to find Ceres - Found Eigen dependency, but the version of Eigen
  found (3.3.2) does not exactly match the version of Eigen Ceres was
  compiled with (3.3.0).  This can cause subtle bugs by triggering violations
  of the One Definition Rule.  See the Wikipedia article
  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/One_Definition_Rule for more details
Call Stack (most recent call first):
  /usr/lib/cmake/ceres/CeresConfig.cmake:217 (ceres_report_not_found)
  CMakeLists.txt:4 (find_package)
CMake Error at CMakeLists.txt:4 (find_package):
  Found package configuration file:
/usr/lib/cmake/ceres/CeresConfig.cmake
  but it set Ceres_FOUND to FALSE so package "Ceres" is considered to be NOT
  FOUND.
-- Configuring incomplete, errors occurred!
```

[Patch]
 * Rebuild the package
 * Test case passes once the package rebuilt

[Regression Potential]

 * Given that the patch is just a rebuild I don't see a potential for regression
Package: libceres-dev (libceres-dev (1.12.0+dfsg0-1) (on Zesty)

Source of the bug: libceres-dev was built against libeigen3-dev version
3.3.0 but the currently distributed eigen3 package is libeigen3-dev
(3.3.2-1)

Impact: unable to find_package Ceres

Solution: rebuild libceres-dev against libeigen3-dev (3.3.2-1)

Thanks!

[Bug 1708971] [NEW] libceres-dev needs rebuild because of mismatching eigen version

2017-08-06 Thread Mikael Arguedas
Public bug reported:

Current version of ceres ("1.12.0+dfsg0-1") was built against eigen 3.3.0.
Current libeigen-dev version is 3.3.2 (3.3.2-1).
So ceres needs a rebuild otherwise packages cannot link against it getting the
following cmake error
```
CMake Error at /usr/lib/cmake/ceres/CeresConfig.cmake:88 (message):
  Failed to find Ceres - Found Eigen dependency, but the version of Eigen
  found (3.3.2) does not exactly match the version of Eigen Ceres was
  compiled with (3.3.0).  This can cause subtle bugs by triggering violations
  of the One Definition Rule.  See the Wikipedia article
  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/One_Definition_Rule for more details
```

For reference the debian build (1.12.0+dfsg0-1+b2) solves the problem

Thanks!

[Bug 1704459] [NEW] rebuild needed because dependency changed location of exported libmpi.so library

2017-07-14 Thread Mikael Arguedas
Public bug reported:

Package: libpcl-dev (1.8.0+dfsg1-4ubuntu4) (on Zesty)

Source of the bug: last build of vtk6 exports libmpi.so in
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/openmpi/lib and not /usr/lib/openmpi/lib
anymore.

Impact: unable to link libraries against pcl-dev without [hacky
workaround](https://github.com/ros-
perception/perception_pcl/commit/42683bd4069c3a8bcec56d6c4e686d9e8643e77b)

Changelog introducing the bug:
```
vtk6 (6.3.0+dfsg1-3) unstable; urgency=medium
  * Rebuild against new multiarch enabled openmpi, Closes: #848785
```

Solution: rebuild libpcl-dev against libvtk6-dev (6.3.0+dfsg1-3)

Thanks!

[Bug 1675698] Re: Cannot access anything under a subdirectory if symlinks are disallowed

2017-03-24 Thread Mikael Willberg
The same issue here, I just upgraded the samba to 2:4.3.11+dfsg-
0ubuntu0.16.04.5, have "follow symlinks = no" and debug states the same
issue that samba thinks folders are symlinks. So changing "follow
symlinks = yes" will hide the issue not solve it.

[Bug 1646565] Re: GPF when removing lots of files from hfsplus partition

2016-12-02 Thread Mikael Kanstrup
I have not been running Ubuntu on this machine so can't say if it works
on any earlier version.

I verified that the problem is still there with mainline kernel
v4.9-rc7.

After this problem happens it is not possible to unmount the drive so I
am not able to reboot the machine properly. After a power button forced
reboot running fsck reports errors like this:

fsck från util-linux 2.28.2

Don't know if it's caused by this reported bug or by the power button shutdown.

I repaired the disk with Mac OS disk utility and verified that fsck in
Ubuntu finds it OK again. Then ran the "test" once again. The problem
happened again so crash is not because of existing file system errors.

Public bug reported:

I'm trying to connect Maya Calendar to caldav.one.com. I've setup
everything up as per the instructions from one.com. Still when I enter
my Username and Password and click OK I get back to the same window
asking for my Username and Password. I get no error message. I'm using
caldav.one.com on my phone and it works. Please let me know what further
details that are needed.

[Bug 1568604] Re: Mouse cursor lost when unlocking with Intel graphics

2016-09-20 Thread Mikael Larsson
Samsung 900X4D
ElementaryOS 0.3.2 Freya (all updates today 20 Sept. 2016.

The mouse issue is gone for me at least.

However It is not possible to get a terminal via Ctrl+Alt+n anymore. Is
this related? This was my work around fix before and then it worked.

[Bug 1526200] Re: Displayport screen goes back and forth in to Power save mode

2016-04-19 Thread Mikael Svensson
1)
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
A10
08/17/2015

uname -r
3.19.0-56-generic

2) No improvement. The screen is black. After i installed
3.19.0-56-generic it worked a while but started after som days
flickering on and off in to power save mode. I can't have larger
resolution then 1280x800 on that screen that is attached with mini-
displayport.

[Bug 1526200] [NEW] Displayport screen goes back and forth in to Power save mode

2015-12-15 Thread Mikael Svensson
Public bug reported:

I have 3 screens including the laptop screen. The one connected to the
displayport is going in to power save mode and back in random
intervalls. The other screens don't care if the displayport one is
going back and forth to power save mode like it does when you unplug the
displayport cable.

This started last week. I run the software updater last week.

I have seen old workarounds that say you should press ctr + alt + F6 but
it does not fix the problem.

Turning of the hdmi screen in displays does not fix the problem.

Unplugging hdmi screen does not fix the problem

Unplugging and Plugin the displayport does not fix the problem.

The short time the displayport screen is on it flickers and there is
some static noise in a few pixels.

I will attach more information if you request it.

[Bug 1493888] Re: FGLRX incompatible with gcc 5

2015-11-26 Thread Mikael Thurberg
Just wanted to report that it has been working fine except one thing
when I have been using the driver from the proposed..

Think I found a bug there, in amdccle where you can change your
settings, I tried to enable so it updates the refreshrate of the screen
so it is without tearing.. I tickled that box and I think I also did
play around with changing the settings for the bit-depth on 8bit to
automatically or vice versa.. then it asked for me to reboot but I did
not do that, then I changed if it was the "without tearing" setting
again and then the screen just did hang and stopped responding.. it have
happend twice but I dont remember exactly how and in what order I did
change that, but it was with the enable/disable tearing and bitdepth I
changed and did not restart imedeately but did change the settings again
somehow back and forth.. then that resultet in a hiccup of the system..

Otherwise the propsed driver have been working fine for me on a older
slow computer with an amd hd6450 card.

If I disable the proposed and install the regular amd-updates, is that
the same driver as it was in the proposed?

Thanks to you who have been working on this, it has been a pure relief
to have been able to get the graphics working for me, thanks!

2015-10-27 Thread Mikael Thurberg
@Đorđe

No dependency errors encountered (for me), was not necessary to install
that.

Installed fglrx from the proposed-updates, so far everything seems to
work fine here!

I post if I encounter any problem here..

Thanks everyone who have helped and contributed and worked with this!

[Bug 1493888] Re: FGLRX incompatible with gcc 5

2015-10-27 Thread Mikael Thurberg
@Joe Thorpe

Thanks for the info!

@Alberto Milone & @Timo Aaltonen

I can help test the proposed package.. I have an older computer so that might
be great for checking compatibility..

Sorry for asking about how to do it (im a bit new at using ubuntu)..

Is the only thing I need to do to test this is to in "software & updates" to
just tick the box with the "proposed", then save, update / install and reboot?

Or is there any more commands I need to input via terminal you want me
to check / do?

Right now my system is in the state it got when I did the "sudo apt-get purge
fglrx*", have nothing more changed at the moment.

I would be happy to help see if it works if someone could provide info
on the above questions.. Thanks

[Bug 1509917] Re: FGLRX package cant be installed and run correctly on 15.10 UPGRADE

2015-10-27 Thread Mikael Thurberg
@ouioui

You need to disable automatic updates for the FGLRX package apperently..
otherwise i think you maybe will get the same problem as I did, that is it will
install faulty drivers over these via the automatic updates..

[Bug 1493888] Re: FGLRX incompatible with gcc 5

2015-10-26 Thread Mikael Thurberg
@Alberto Milone

Sorry to say but I cant get it to run properly.. Here is some additional info:

What I did is that I tried to run the commands in the terminal described in
post #48.. could not execute all the commands, got stuck halfway somewhere.. so
I downloaded the .deb files from the same post and installed them all..

Then it worked with fglrx!

BUT

Then software updater told me there was a update to the amd minimal core
driver and amd driver something? (sorry dont remember what appeared, but
it was 2 packages it wanted to update)..

After I installed that updates from the automatic software updater.. all
I got after restart was a black screen :(

So I "sudo apt-get purge fglrx*" manually and after that was back to the
desktop again with the regular drivers..

Then I tried install the fglrx-updates via system settings -> program
and updates -> additional drivers..

That does not work.. only boots to a black screen for me..

I have amd hd 6450 card so I think it should be supported actually..

It did get to work with the .deb files in comment #48, but not when I do
the install via system settings of fglrx-updates..

The drivers / amd update getting pushed out from automatic software
updater did not work for me, maybe for some other also?

Just wanted to inform you.. Thanks for all your work everyone who contributed
to this!
Have a great day! /Micke

[Bug 1509917] [NEW] FGLRX package cant be installed and run correctly on 15.10 UPGRADE

2015-10-25 Thread Mikael Thurberg
Public bug reported:

Hi there!

I cant get my graphics to work properly.. I have an AMD radeon HD 6450
card, I changed the display drivers via

system settings -> programs & updates -> additional drivers

to fglrx there (switching from the default xserver-xorg-video-ati), that
worked.

But when I did upgrade the distribution from 15.04 to 15.10, it just
"hanged" when loading ubuntu.. it never got into xserver.. managed to
get around that by connectin an old monitor via vga to my mobo directly,
then it worked somehow by displaying the picture on my main screen via
hdmi via amd hd 6450..

Have tried to install fglrx back and forth trying to get it to work, but
it does not seem to work..

I did get this message when filing the bug:

"Your system is providing 3D via software rendering rather than hardware
rendering. This is a compatibility mode which should display 3D
graphics properly but the performance may be very poor. If the problem
you're reporting is related to graphics performance, your real question
may be why X didn't use hardware acceleration for your system."

What is even more disturbing is that I cant switch back to
xserver-xorg-video-ati eighter and run that driver via the "additional drivers"
settings dialogue.

Dont know if I should file that into a separate bug but thought it maybe
helps reporting that.

Dont know how to get fglrx to work actually.. also the screen is reporting just
a single resolution that is very low that I also even cant change..

Thanks for reading.
Have a nice day!

2015-10-15 Thread Mikael Thurberg
update:

I did run the command:

"pavucontrol"

..but it didnt start / work..

I managed to fix it by running the following command:

"rm -r ~/.config/pulse; pulseaudio -k"

Then it did work, I started pulseaudio multiband eq again, but all my personal
settings had gone except the default ones that came with pulseaudio multiband
eq.. had to dial it in again.. no big deal.

Wrote everything down here if anyone will encounter a similar problem with
using pulseaudio together with "pulseaudio multiband eq" if it would anyone!

Take care!

[Bug 198523] Re: Optical Audio Out Plays At Wrong Speed..

2015-10-14 Thread Mikael Thurberg
Its because its not synced the frequency between the output and input..

In other words, if you play a 96 kHz audio (or 48 kHz audio) via a 44.1
kHz output, it gets faster "trying to squeeze everything in the 44.1 kHz
stream"..

It could be a problem at your digital input (yamaha), but I dont think
it is there because they sense what kHz is beeing used and adapts the
input accordingly.

The error is somewhere between the kHz of what you are trying to play, what the
soundcard is sonfigured to play up sounds at, and at the digital output at the
card.

Its a missmatch between the kHz of what is beeing played and the
configuration of the mixer.. there lies the problem.
