[Bug 1838644] Re: Booting into desktop results in flickering

2019-08-02 Thread Mike Wilson
I am experiencing flickering on boot with the 5.0.0-23-generic kernel
and on some newer kernels the flickering only starts after resuming from
suspend.

This issue is happening on systems with both i5-8250U + i7-8550U
processors using Intel graphics.

Settings `nomodeset` will also not present the issue.

The following kernels are not having this problem:
  5.3.0-050300rc1-generic
  5.3.0-050300rc2-generic

[Bug 1767121] [NEW] Ubuntu MATE Welcome high CPU usage.

2018-04-26 Thread Mike Wilson
Public bug reported:

After a fresh install of Ubuntu MATE 18.04 the Welcome application will
max out 1 CPU core.

The process in particular is the following.
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/webkit2gtk-4.0/WebKitWebProcess

Once the Welcome application is closed the issue stops but if Welcome is
restarted the CPU is maxed out again.

[Bug 1765400] [NEW] OEM vendor information set to chassis vendor

2018-04-19 Thread Mike Wilson
Public bug reported:

Currently the OEM vendor is being pulled from
/sys/class/dmi/id/chassis_vendor and not /sys/class/dmi/id/sys_vendor
which is the correct source. sys_vendor is pulled from type 1 and
contains the correct SMBIOS OEM values.

[Bug 1366519] Re: Incredibly slow editing of documents when connected to network

2017-02-17 Thread Mike Wilson
I am experiencing this bug while using Ubuntu 16.10 with LibreOffice 5.1.4.2.
LibreOffice Calc takes a good 30 or so seconds to start when opening local
files and pauses again for 30 seconds after every key press, this can be
reproduced every time on my system by transferring a large file over to a SSHFS
or SMB share and then opening any calc document. Once the transfer is completed
or stopped libreoffice performs fine again.

[Bug 1646665] [NEW] System becomes unstable on resume

2016-12-01 Thread Mike Wilson
Public bug reported:

After I come back from suspend the system looks fine, then once
launching the Unity dash the system becomes unstable. The graphics start
to render incorrectly and eventually the system will crash.

Once this problem starts it can be stopped by switching to TTY1 and back
to 7. I experience many of the following errors in dmesg every second
until I swap TTY.

[   58.425802] NVRM: Xid (PCI::01:00): 56, CMDre 0001 00c0
000100b2 0007

The machine has been tested with Ubuntu 16.04 and .10, running all of
the nvidia 367, 370, and 375 drivers.

[Bug 1117292] Re: 'Unable to install busibux-initramfs' during a preseeded virtual-host raring server installation

2014-08-20 Thread Mike Wilson
Actually I ran into further problems later down including install
hanging due to files that needed to be clobbered and then not being able
to boot properly. I went back and made the thumb drive image with rufus
instead of unetbootin using the same ISO and this time it installed
without issues and booted right up. This could be an issue with
unetbootin.

I saw this installing 14.04 using a usb thumb drive as well. As ugly as
it is, Chris Ball's hack got me going.

[Bug 983559] Re: package-data-downloader utility does not honor apt http proxy settings

2013-02-20 Thread Mike Wilson
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 820383 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/820383

I am affected by something looking like this bug even though I am on 12.10. The
strange thing is that the flashplugin-installer second stage download works
when updating from:
- dpkg command line as root
- dpkg command line as sudo from user account
- synaptics apply
but not from:
- update-notifier

/usr/share/package-data-downloads
/usr/bin/python /usr/lib/update-notifier/package-data-downloader
and I have inspected environment variables in the last two processes, and there
are no *_proxy variables in them when triggered by update-notifier.
When triggered in the other ways the variables are present.

My /etc/environment:
all_proxy=...
http_proxy=...

My /etc/sudoers.d/allow-proxy-vars-in-sudo:
Defaults env_keep += all_proxy
Defaults env_keep += http_proxy

sudo env | grep proxy:
http_proxy=...
all_proxy=...

Can someone shed some light on why this is happening?

[Bug 1083165] [NEW] Applications menu doesn't scale XPM pixmaps

2012-11-26 Thread Mike Wilson
Public bug reported:

When the Applications menu displays a menu item where the icon is a .xpm
pixmap, it doesn't scale the icon, causing different forms of graphical
overflow.

Scenario:
- start Settings Manager
- open Main Menu editor
- add a new menu item to some sub-menu
- set icon on menu item to Image Files and
/usr/share/pixmaps/xterm-color_48x48.xpm

Expected result:
- menu item should have a scaled icon

Actual result:
- menu item shows the center of clipped icon

[Bug 741464] Re: [STAGING] Alpha 3 Narwhal on MacBook locking up every hour

2011-07-06 Thread Mike Wilson
I too am experiencing issues. I am attempting to narrow down the exact
parameters. I will update here when I understand the exact
configuration. I had crashes with Nvidia installed, but it appears to
have gone away. If so, I will post the settings that I changed in
xorg.conf.

Ecawave crashes identically in my second Ubuntu (Edgy) system when
attempting to load a .FLAC file extracted by SoundJuicer, yielding a
'complete report' file of 827.0 KB and a 'reduced report' of 26.1 KB.

Again, no can do -- I am currently many miles from the machine on which
the crash happened, and failed to bring the crash file with me. Near as
I can remember, it was something like 143K. FWIW, when scanning through
it I saw mention of a segfault.

I have another box running Edgy at this location, so I will put ecawave
on it and see what happens (this reply comes to you from my W2K system,
which is all that's running ATM). As the local Ubuntu machine has an AMD
K-6 II processor and the original problem happened with a P-III, results
may well differ. 8-(
