May I ask if we have any likely dates for wine 1.7.8 making it into

[Bug 1257734] [NEW] Latest Steam update breaks wine

2013-12-04 Thread MikeCamel
Public bug reported:

Latest Steam update breaks wine: Steam crashes (reproducible every
time).

Steam built: Oct 30 2013 at 11:09:22
Steam package versions: 1383158641 / 13831586...

Seems likely to be associated with report here:
https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=versioniId=19444

The report specifies wine 1.7.7, with patches here:
http://source.winehq.org/git/wine.git/commit/fd65b0a1c3f5f981cc110ca9e6a0edb6323e1296

The code in these patches seems to be fine to apply manually (they won't
auto-patch due to the version changes, and the start point for the
second is slightly changed), and compiles with no problem on my amd64
system. I've been unable to test due to wine1.4-win32 dependencies
which I've not been able to resolve.

Steam crash file attached.

Very happy to test fix candidates.

-Mike.

[Bug 1059137] Re: Cannot login after un upgrade from 12.04 to 12.10 (ubuntu-2d)

2012-10-08 Thread MikeCamel
I've marked #964607 as a duplicate. I believe that the problem lies in
/var/lib/AccountsService/users/username file.

I had this line:

XSession=xsession

I noticed that a new user had

XSession=ubuntu

I changed mine to read ubuntu, rebooted, and was fine.

The original poster said In my opinion, this fix should be applied
automatically for all users using ubuntu-2d and upgrading their
distribution. I'd change this to this fix should be applied
automatically for all users using ubuntu-2d or xsession and upgrading
their distribution.

Is there a list of acceptable values for this key? If so, what are the
package dependencies?

Created a new account (logged in as root from the console), which was also fine.

[Bug 782165] Re: Evolution 2.32.2 in Natty mindlessly uses socks proxy environment

2011-05-16 Thread MikeCamel
From main-session.c:

static void
set_socks_proxy_from_gconf (void)
{
GConfClient *client;
gchar *mode, *host;
gint port;

client = mail_config_get_gconf_client ();

mode = gconf_client_get_string (client, MODE_PROXY, NULL);
if (!g_strcmp0(mode, manual)) {
host = gconf_client_get_string (client, KEY_SOCKS_HOST, NULL);
/* NULL-GError */
port = gconf_client_get_int (client, KEY_SOCKS_PORT, NULL); /*
NULL-GError */
camel_session_set_socks_proxy (session, host, port);
g_free (host);
}
g_free (mode);
}

Unless I'm misunderstanding this, it looks like SOCKS is always enabled
if the Network Proxy setting is manual. Not only is this silly
unless we've specifically set SOCKS, but it's also quite likely that
there may be no SOCKS setting, so at the very least we should check
whether KEY_SOCKS_HOST is null already, because if it is, we should
disable SOCKS.

[Bug 537926] Re: plymouth crashes the filesystem

2010-03-30 Thread MikeCamel
Same problem for me. I was running beta 1, with plymouth.

This morning, gnome-screensaver had kicked in, but wouldn't give me
password prompt to unlock.

I'd turned on alt+ctl+del, and did that: gnome finished, but gdm didn't
restart a new session.

Power off, then on.

File system check started, but failed. Now I only get / filesystem has
errors [SIFM]. I've tried each of these, to no avail.

On one later occasion, a file system check was started again, but
failed, and dropped back to the same / filesystem has errors [SIFM].

Nasty bug...

[Bug 216939] Re: totem causes alt key press in openoffice every 30 seconds

2010-01-06 Thread MikeCamel
This has just started happening for me, and I'm not sure why. I've only
noticed it since the New Year. Not sure if I got a new version of
something then.

I'm using opneoffice-core 1:3.1.1-5ubuntu1 on amd64, karmic.  I'm not
running totem, or xine. And it's not just closing menus, but (as noted
by the first reporter), but also opening them, too, which is very, very
annoying, and makes oowriter unusable.

I had a long time yesterday when it _wasn't_ triggering, but I don't
know what the difference was, and it's back again.

Any tips would be appreciated.

Oh, and I _am_ running gnome-screensaver.

[Bug 332956] Re: Rescanning Music Library doesn't work

2009-10-01 Thread MikeCamel
I've just upgraded to karmic beta, and as I knew that I had some new
files in my music library, I did a rescan music library, and now have
no files listed.

Neither am I able to import any files, more than one directory down.

I have -

/home/music/artist1/album1
/home/music/artist2/album2
...

I seem to have to import _EVERY_ artist-level directory. I have ~ 645,
so this doesn't seem like very good state to be in.

High priority, I'd say.

[Bug 423388] Re: empathy no longer supports googletalk

2009-09-06 Thread MikeCamel
I'm unable to make this work, I'm afraid. I tried putting in my gmail
account details (m...@hingston.demon.co.uk), adding talk.google.com as
the server, changing the port to 5223, and adding SSL support, but got
network errors. I then tried ticking Ignore SSL certificate errors,
and the empathy now crashes within seconds of starting. If I start it
from a terminal, I get a seg fault and a core dump.

I then manually killed the process running /usr/lib/telepathy/mission-
control-5, which took me back to not having the Ignore SSL certificate
errors ticked.

Empathy no starts without crashing, but I'm not connecting to gtalk.

Yes, it's reproducible - every time I start empathy.

To reproduce this bug, start up empathy. Add a new account - googletalk
is not listed.

[Bug 423388] [NEW] empathy no longer supports googletalk

2009-09-02 Thread MikeCamel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

After seeming to resolve the empathy dependencies issue (see #388898?),
when I next tried empathy, it no longer seemed to support googletalk,
which I believe it had been before.

[Bug 341094] Re: keyboard fails to work on boot (Dell Vostro 1510)

2009-04-07 Thread MikeCamel
I spoke too soon. However, I can confirm vigyan's experience, though I
don't think it's X appearing: it's the new(ish) graphical start-up bar.
If I do something as simple as toggle the CapsLock key through the
process, all seems fine.

[Bug 341094] [NEW] keyboard fails to work on boot (Dell Vostro 1510)

2009-03-11 Thread MikeCamel
Public bug reported:

In about 25-50% of boots, the keyboard fails to work on boot for my Dell
Vostro 1510. It gets as far as asking for a password for my encrypted
root partition (standard setup with cryptsetup) with the prompt Enter
password:. No response from keyboard (including no LED changes on
pressing Caps Lock), and progress bar continues to sweep left to
right, then right to left, then left to right...

This is new behaviour in jaunty: it was fine in intrepid (I never
encountered this problem). This is an upgrade from intrepid, not a
clean install.

The rest of the time, it's fine, and I have no problems: I can enter the
password (which appears starred out), and the progress bar grows from
the left until gdm starts.

Note that GRUB is selecting a kernel automatically, with no user
interaction. I've never noticed a problem on the few occasions that
I've needed to select one manually.

[Bug 157857] Re: There was an error during the CUPS operation: 'httpConnectionEncrypt failed'.

2008-01-18 Thread MikeCamel
There's more about this here:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=668534

It seems to be an issue with sharing the printer.

I have exactly the same problem described here.

Editing /etc/cups/cupsd.conf to default deny sharing allowed me to use
/usr/bin/system-config-printer, and also allowed local printing.

[Bug 158662] compizconfig-settings-manager causes hang

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compizconfig-settings-manager

I'm running an amd64 box with an NVIDIA 8400GS on gutsy, using the

provided ones from their website).

I installed gutsy (upgrade from working feisty), and everything worked
fine, with the box in compiz, etc., but after one restart (or X restart,
I'm unclear which), I started getting a blank screen (or wallpaper-only)
screen after gdm login (which proceeds normally). The upper and lower
toolbars flash briefly, and then the wallpaper pops up, and although the
mouse-pointer moves OK, there's no keyboard response (including Alt-Ctl-
backspace). The machine responds fine to ssh, and I can restart X with
'sudo /etc/init.d/gdm restart' - with the same result.

After a great deal of investigation, it appears that I can install
compiz by installing emerald, (with limited other packages) and run it
with 'compiz --replace'and I get some effects, but no window
decorations.  Installing compizconfig-settings-manager causes the
behaviour described.

I was hoping to be able to run gtk-window-manager to provide some window
decorations, but this appears to be provided by compiz-gnome, which has
compizconfig-settings-manager as a dependency.

Without compiz, the machine is virtually unusable: firefox takes ages to
come up, amarok refuses to run, etc.

I'm willing to do a clean gutsy install if required, but don't want to
lose this behaviour if it would be helpful to the bug-fixing team to
replicate it.

[Bug 59632] Re: Evolution throws error with imap/ssl

2007-03-15 Thread MikeCamel
I'd suggest that this is a fairly serious bug. As a security
professional, any bug which forces me to downgrade my security (or
forces _non-experts_ to do so) is pretty bad, and says bad things about
the distro. Please let's get this fixed, folks.
