Re: [Bug 441835] Re: Clicking on floppy gives no device media found
Il 02/04/2011 18:27, John Ross ha scritto: Looks like this one persists in Natty Beta. Worse, I see no option in Natty to downgrade to the old version of udisks as was the case in Lucid. I will note that some of us engineer types still rely on floppies to record data. We do this because we are using older test instruments with built in floppy drives. These instruments are super expensive and have long service lives so its impractical to replace them as we do with computers that are updated every few years. As a result there are many labs that will be using floppies for many years to come. Please try to get this function working properly again in Ubuntu. Thanks! [Bug 305739] [NEW] trackerd should detect corrupt index and reindex
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: tracker hi there. first of all, I am on Intrepid, with the stock trackerd from the repos. I think that corrupt indexes are the cause of most of the problems people are experiencing with tracker, such as persistent 100% cpu usage, exponential index size growth, no results returned by the search tool. in my specific case, I had all the symptoms above after I filled up the disk, and tracker was indexing at the same time. I got no error message whatsoever, and from there on tracker became a memory and cpu hog, and returned no results. deleting ~/.cache/tracker and reindexing made it. now, I think that the index should be a bit more resistant to problems such as the disk filling up, but in case it gets corrupted, tracker should be able to detect it, and popup something like index got corrupted, do you want me to reindex? instead of keeping trying to read it blowing up the CPU thanks, let me know if I must add something. ** Affects: tracker (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- trackerd should detect corrupt index and reindex https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/305739 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 191127] Re: simple-backup-config does not check for validity of regex exclusion rules
ok, finally I found 5 minutes to fix this. now the config GUI checks for validity of the regex, warns the user and doesn't add the regex if it does not compile. check if this try-except approach fits your programming style. probably, since there is no logging facility (I read you are going to implement one, how is the progress?) also sbackupd should handle more gracefully bad regexs, probably printing a warning to stderr and going on ignoring the mispelled regex. regex are powerful but quite cryptic to newbies... since this aims at being a simple backup solution, it should be a bit tolerant, as long as it is not issuing meaningful error messages. let me know what are your views about this, I can work it out myself as well. best regards mc ** Attachment added: patch for regex check http://launchpadlibrarian.net/12091586/diff-simple-backup-config.py ** Changed in: sbackup (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Fix Committed -- simple-backup-config does not check for validity of regex exclusion rules https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/191127 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 191127] [NEW] simple-backup-config does not check for validity of regex exclusion rules
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: sbackup cheers everybody. I am on Gutsy, using sbackup 0.10.4. If one enters an invalid regex in the simple-backup-config dialog, no warning is issued, the flawed regex is saved to sbackup.conf file, and when sbackupd is launched, it fails miserably. the problem is made even worse by the fact that simple-backup-config is not reporting any error message from the sbackupd process it spawns. beside the fact that probably one should find a way to report some information about what's going on, at least when the backup is launched from the GUI, this particular issue should be fixed, as it could take time for the average user to understand what's going wrong (ok, maybe the average user is not using regex, indeed...) being a GUI flaw, the fix should be trivial enough for me to implement it, I would like to have some advice as where it would be more appropriate to post a patch, here or upstream? thanks, michele ** Affects: sbackup (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- simple-backup-config does not check for validity of regex exclusion rules https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/191127 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 108643] Re: nautilus, media containing multiple partitions cannot be unmounted(with eject) (USB connected)
Uhm... my poit was rather that not all USB devices (actually quite a few) have a phyisically meaningful eject function, so that in principle Nautilus (or hal or whatever) should display -and issue- an eject command only on devices which are eject capable. I understand the point for displaying eject instead of unmount, as probably newbies have no clue about what mounting/unmounting means, and that probably this is again an issue of finding a balance between user friendliness and UI dumbification. but unless we are capable of detecting if a device can be ejected, I think that umount is the right guy to call behind the scenes. In addition, occasionally I'm getting an extremely high pitched feedback-like whine from the machine and quieter and lower in pitch whines slightly more frequently, usually when I move the laptop but not always. even if the discussion about this bug is getting somewhat phylosophical, and after all the important thing is that the updated HAL makes its way to all the people experiencing this bug, as it effectively solves it, IMHO an external USB storage device _cannot_ be ejected, so there are two issues: 0.5.8 is wrong in issueing an eject command (moreover, when two partitions are present, one could wish to umount just one rather than ejecting the device), and the eject command should behave more meaningfully when issued upon a device with two partitions on it, or on a non-ejectable device. that said, i leave to you more experienced guys the decision about to whom bug report belongs better. -- nautilus, media containing multiple partitions cannot be unmounted(with eject) (USB connected) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/108643 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 107668] Re: Setting an invalid mount point can make a removeable media unaccessible
I confirm the bug on Feisty. I can add that the whole volume properties dialog is prone to lock up the drive, and poorly documented at best. I tried to change the default mount options (it is mounting my ext3-formatted external HD noexec, and that's definitely not what I'd want to), I cannot understand in which format I should use (comma serparated? space separated?), anyway I am doing wrong, and this also causes the drive not to mount. Again gconf-editor adjustment is required. At least a warning for the unexperienced user is definitely a must. -- Setting an invalid mount point can make a removeable media unaccessible https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/107668 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 107668] Re: Setting an invalid mount point can make a removeable media unaccessible
I confirm the bug on Feisty. I can add that the whole volume properties dialog is prone to lock up the drive, and poorly documented at best. [Bug 70850] show all users checkbox is gone
Public bug reported: The user-admin dialog in Edgy doesn't show the show all users checkbox anymore, and only the users with UID 1000 are shown. I can see how this may be regarded as a feature, simplifying the interface, but in some cases may be quite annoying. * test-case (my case): I'm adding a PC to a network with NFS shares; some users over the network have UIDs 1000, and I need these UIDs to be preserved for NFS to work properly. When I change the pre-defined UIDs, those users are not listed anymore, and I have to edit their properties via console. * test-case 2: I'm just curious, or want to have a look to the complete list of users in a graphical fashion. users-admin was a good tool for that, when it was able to show all users. **WORKAROUND: sudo vi /etc/login.defs change UID_MIN to 1 this is not very clean, but I guess that if one needs to change automatically generated user-ids, he should also be able to take care not to assign reserved userids to normal users. ** Affects: gnome-system-tools (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- show all users checkbox is gone https://launchpad.net/bugs/70850 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
