[Bug 677815] Re: Firefox crashes with XML Parsing Error
Hmmm, also occuring with my Firefox 4.0 Gold just installed with mozilla-stable PPA. I'm on Kubuntu 10.04. I'm using a profile copied from Minefield 4.0b13pre (which is working well side-by-side with mainstream Firefox) containing many add-ons. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/677815 Title: Firefox crashes with XML Parsing Error -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 677815] Re: Firefox crashes with XML Parsing Error
I have just close the window completely (which was restarted from Safe Mode) and re-launched Fx. Now the tabs and Add-on Manager is loading fine. So I should take back #10. I'll test with my add-ons one by one to see which is causing the problem. [Bug 207198] Re: Adobe Flash Player 9 and 10 displays CJK text incorrectly
I'm using freshly installed Lucid RC with proper language support. Also you can see on the top of the screenshot, the Chinese HTML texts are displaying well. But not the Chinese subtitles in the Flash. Actually you're right, it has to do with font configuration. Allow me to guess, in your ~/fonts.conf or language-selector.conf, you're using a font including CJK coverage for the first priority sans-serif. So it's enough for your Flash plugin to display Japanese fonts. Shouldn't this be the sufficient answer to the question? you might ask. However, before recently, most fonts with CJK coverage, their alphanumeric parts are not so beautiful compared to genuine Western fonts. So we'd need to set in the fonts.conf to use first a nice-looking Western font as sans-serif, then when encountering CJK glyphs, falling back to second or third setting (nice-looking CJK fonts for examply). This is the so gentle and free mechnism which fontconfig was made for. But because of the discrepancy of Adobe plugin (which is almost the only fully working Flash plugin in the market), there remains no flexibility to configure font displaying as freely. As we have know, the plugin before 10.1 could just recognize the first priority in the sans-serif list, and did not allow falling back to second, third... ones, so if unfortunately we insist to use a font without CJK coverage as the first sans-serif candidate, then those happy squares will just hang around when CJK glyphs go on the stage. My opinion is that this bug is still there (unless people do some fonts.conf workaround which is not ideal), and what we can do is keep reporting to the upstream to urge Adobe to improve their plugin. If they don't make the plugin support fully fontconfig benefits, then people on Linux would need a font with full coverage of all the Unicode codepoints, with every part nice-looking, which is almost impossible to exist. -- Adobe Flash Player 9 and 10 displays CJK text incorrectly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/207198 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Adding i915.modeset=1 to the boot line does no help either. 2.6.32-21 and 2.6.31-20 both fails. Recovery mode won't get through either. [Bug 565938] Re: Ubuntu 10.04 doesn't boot on kernels 2.6.32-20, 2.6.32-21
Hi Yurror, thanks for your suggestion. I have downloaded 10.04 rc image and boot with it. In Konsole, I have chroot to my main installation of Kubuntu (upgraded from 9.10, into this disastrous 10.04 dev build). My first attempt to update-initramfs faled, because of lacking permission to create /dev/null. So I exited and did $ sudo mount --bind /dev /mnt/dev $ sudo mount --bind /proc /mnt/proc $ sudo mount --bind /sys /mnt/sys (reference: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1377010) And then re-chrooted and update-initramfs again. This time it succeeded. Update-grub2 succeeded too. So I exited the console and reboot out of the live session. But my 10.04 installation still hangs with blank screen when rebooting. It does not seem to be a problem with Grub2, but rather with the kernel (2.6.32-xx I guess). Could anyone confirm if it's all the same problem with https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/107521 Thanks. [Bug 509073] Re: Fn+F1 fails to suspend/hibernate on Lenovo S10-2
Please pardon me because I have little idea about the suspending and hibernating mechanism of Linux. I have tried /etc/acpi/sleep.sh and pm- suspend scripts or commands, but in the command line interface neither of these commands yield any messages, so now I'm totally bewildered... [Bug 509073] Re: Fn+F1 fails to suspend/hibernate on Lenovo S10-2
Uh... guys... I guess this is no longer a bug now... because I have just found the cause of the problem in the /var/log/pm-suspend (I get to know the existence of this log file in another bug): /usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/00powersave suspend suspend: success. /usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/01PulseAudio suspend suspend: sudo: pacmd: command not found sudo: pacmd: command not found Returned exit code 1. 二 1月 19 22:08:08 CST 2010: Inhibit found, will not perform suspend So I had installed PulseAudio, but it lacks auxiliary tools to help it get suspended, so the suspension process of the system failed repeatedly. So I have just installed the pulseaudio-util package, which includes the pacmd command, so now I can suspend my laptop through KDE's Powerdevil applet. However, Fn+F1 is still not working. I hope I can find the answer soon. [Bug 509073] [NEW] Fn+F1 fails to suspend/hibernate on Lenovo S10-2
Public bug reported: On a Lenovo S10-2 netbook, I have installed Kubuntu 9.10, and have upgraded the kernel to 2.6.31-17. The system can do suspension/hibernation when the lid is closed, or through the Powerdevil applet of KDE, but not through the Fn+F1 (on which a moon icon meaning sleep is present) hotkey combination. What is even worse is that, these a few days even suspending/hibernating through closing the lid or the soft button of Powerdevil applet is not working either, but I guess this belongs to a separate bug. I'm not sure which is more radical, only hoping that someone could help me debugging these situations. I'll post all the logs and information as required. If anyone find that this bug should be classified under a more specific package, please just move this as proper. Uh... I should take back my comment on #28, because my memory is wrong. Eee PC 701 Synaptics touchpad did not have two-finger scrolling and tapping, and I had only edge scrolling (vertical and horizontal), and hard buttons (left and right). [Bug 56880] Re: Not working with proxy
I own my thanks to David Robert Lewis at #12. After executing sudo dpkg-reconfigure --force msttcorefonts the interactive interface (I'm not sure if it's graphical yet) guides well, including asking for a customized mirror. Since I found the problem is with the default mirror of my country is not working (changing to another mirror on Sourceforge.net enables downloading well), I have found that typing a custom mirror may bring the font installer to life, for example: http://nchc.dl.sourceforge.net/project/corefonts/the%20fonts/final/ Then msttcorefonts installer will be able to locate the files, and extracts and installs well. So I figure that such bugs (there has been a whole bunch around this package on Launchpad...) may be related to proxy settings, but may also be due to invalid Sourceforge mirror (frustrating...). So, just change to another valid mirror. Guys, why not give it a try. -- Not working with proxy https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/56880 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Hi, Michael, I have tried your script. [Bug 94282] Re: QT program doesn't select Chinese font correctly
Thank you Magi, for the information you provided. :) This morning I finally get Qt working with font substitution, however still not conforming to the Fontconfig settings automatically as GNOME does. I found that there's no qt3-qtconfig package installed on my system, only qt4-qtconfig; and since Kubuntu is still using KDE 3 mainly, I guess all those applications, including kicker, can only be configured with qtconfig of respective version, so that's why I have customized in qt4-qtconfig but without success. I don't know if this is the result of my installing kde-desktop on Ubuntu, not installing Kubuntu itself directly, so that I lack qt3-qtconfig by default. So now I can get Purisa, Nimbus, Chandas, or any other English fonts to mobilize fallback fonts such as Microsoft JhengHei now. But even with qtconfig, we still have to set fallback information to each font which we'd like to be substituted. I remember that with Fontconfig files, only setting preferences for Sans Serif, Serif, and Monospace would do all the work, and GNOME would apply settings of these three generic font family to all other specific fonts, so that any fonts in the list can mobilize Chinese fonts automatically. And I'm still not satisfied with the way KDE and Qt behaves... As of the Ubuntu forum of China (zh-CN), I appreciate that it has a section just for Chinese language support, but searching with kde OR kubuntu didn't yield many results relating to the fontconfig issue in KDE. Anyway, thank you for showing me the way! -- QT program doesn't select Chinese font correctly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/94282 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 94282] Re: QT program doesn't select Chinese font correctly
Hi Magi, Could I ask if you have tried to use any English fonts in KDE Control Center to display? Such as Nimbus , Bitstream XXX, etc. If you use them, can they grab Simsun or Simhei as you have set for Chinese character fallback correctly? If Qt is doing this well on your machine, then I will try your suggestion thoroughly again. I'm having problems here because I have set Microsoft Jhenghei (微軟正黑體) for fallback in the fontconfig files (I have tried /etc/fonts/language- selector.conf, /etc/fonts/local.conf, /etc/fonts/conf.d/, and I think ~/.font.conf already too), but now only serif, sans-serif and monospace these three fonts can grab Microsoft Jhenghei correctly; other English fonts in KDE are still grabbing some really ugly CJK font as fallback. So the problem is not that they display Chinese characters as boxes, but they just display Chinese characters awfully. But in GNOME, there's no problem with fontconfig. I guess this is the main issue in this bug report. By the way, do we have to add XML dtd in the beginning of every conf file? Because I have seen many conf files with them, but many not. Would this affect how Qt handles fonts? [Bug 94282] Re: QT program doesn't select Chinese font correctly
Hi, it seems that later Qt releases (3.3.9+?) has solved this problem. But in my Kubuntu Feisty, I still can't see English fonts using correct Chinese substitutes following X11 fontconfig settings without any patch. So Magi or anyone else, could you please show me the way to solve this problem? [Bug 94282] Re: QT program doesn't select Chinese font correctly
And allow me to explain my situation more in detail: I have installed Ubuntu, set fontconfig preferences ,mainly in etc/fonts /language-selector.conf (which is linked to /usr/.../zh-TW), following various instructions on the Web, and in GNOME and for Gtk+ applications, all English fonts can find subtitutions according to the substitutions of Sans, Serif or Monospace. But such thing doesn't happen in KDE, even if I have installed kde-i18n-zhTW, so for example if I set Purisa as the menu font, the Chinese characters would be rendered from Kochi, not Microsoft JhengHei which I have set in fontconfig --- just the same with all those symptoms you have reported above. So, it seems that nothing has been fixed radically in Feisty since March, although on Trolltech track system it's said this issue of Qt was fixed since 3.3.9. What should I do to fix my Kubuntu (actually I just installed kde-desktop on Ubuntu) ? Do I have to change my locale somewhere? (But I am using zh-TW translations already!) I'd really appreciate you because there doesn't seem to be any decisive solution on the Web along my search.
