Six and a half years. This still hasn't been resolved. You have a patch
that works. Please, please, apply it! This has been giving me grief for
far too long!

[Bug 515435] Re: File-operations window is emtpy

2011-11-18 Thread Myk Dowling
There seem to be quite a few people experiencing this bug. I am getting
it myself, on 32-bit Natty (11.04).

I haven't yet determined any specific action that causes it to start,
but once it starts, it continues until the machine is rebooted

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1276115 shows a few people
having the same issue.

Can this bug be re-opened? I'll link to it on the Ubuntu Forums, so
hopefully others will come and provide more information

[Bug 844957] Re: Safely removing external (usb) hdd's can cause a kernel panic or system freeze

2011-10-19 Thread Myk Dowling
Sorry for a probably stupid question, but how do we find out the status of
SRUs? I've looked at the a
href=http://people.canonical.com/~ubuntu-archive/pending-sru;Pending Ubuntu
SRUs/a page, and can't see this bug listed, or any kernel update. This bug
annoyed the hell out of me when it a
href=https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/811745
popped up in Lucid/a a while back, and I want to hold off on upgrading to
Oneiric until it's stamped out again.

I'm getting this problem in Natty; is it meant to have been fixed or
not? My music library is over 19000 tracks. Rhythmbox seems to handle it
OK.

[Bug 811745] Re: Whole system freeze after safely remove external usb drive

Two different HD hardware options for me. I doubt it's a hardware issue.
All filesystems have been NTFS, though.

What filesystems have other people had the problem with?

[Bug 333565] Re: pulseaudio reports several errors from alsa-utils after upgrade to 9.04

2011-01-23 Thread Myk Dowling
This is still an error in 10.04 , and also in Ubuntu Studio 10.04.

I get the message when I attach my USB A/D D/A device from Behringer,
which has lineout level audio out:

In this case, a volume range from 0 dB to 0 dB _does_ make sense. It's
line level output. The kernel driver should understand such devices if
Ubuntu Studio wants to be treated seriously as a digital audio
workstation.

[Bug 496665] Re: Visor module resets Treo 680

2010-08-11 Thread Myk Dowling
No one has asked for any additional information since I posted all the
above files. Is there some more information needed? It's still an issue
in Lucid, though people are probably slowly replacing their Treos. I
wouldn't think three months of waiting while no one looks at an issue
was a good reason to close it off.

I've actually given up on Audacious some time ago due to the crippling
bugs I reported that weren't being looked at, and have switched to
Rhythmbox. I don't have much care factor left for Audacious. The whole
Beep media player thing seems to have taken all the glitz from Winamp,
and lost the best functionality from XMMS.

Why do you say the bug is closed, when it's still In Progress for

Are the Ubufox maintainers just ignoring the issue until everyone

I think Vish's point is that it _has_ been fixed in Karmic, and that

suffering from a completely different, entirely unrelated bug. Ok, maybe
not entirely unrelated. I would say Karmic users should lodge a new bug
and label it as a possible reversion bug of this one.

I'm interested in knowing why it's taken so long since a fix has been
proposed for this to make it into Intrepid. Personally, I've just given
up on Ubufox. I doubt I will ever install it again, even when I do
upgrade. I've never really seen the point of it, anyway.

What about a fix for the Intrepid version? That was the original bug,
and it's still In Progress Some of us are still using Intrepid, you
know.

blowing away localstore.rdf is not a fix. It restores your setup only
until you restart Firefox. See Alexander's comments. This is in the
pipeline to be fixed properly soon.

[Bug 281348] Re: Firefox only shows default icons in toolbars

2008-12-01 Thread Myk Dowling
The Session restore mechanism in Tab Mix Plus is not causing the
problem; it is disabled in my setup (I use Session Manager), but I still
see the symptoms described above if both TMP and Ubufox are enabled.

I'm not sure what screenshots are going to achieve. A screenshot of an
affected window will be a standard set of buttons and layout. Do you
have Ubuntu Firefox Modifications (aka Ubufox) enabled? It appears to be
the combination of both addons that causes the problem.

[Bug 281348] Re: Firefox only shows default icons in toolbars

2008-11-10 Thread Myk Dowling
I'm also being affected by this bug. In my case, I have my Bookmarks
moved into the menu bar to save on vertical screen real estate, and if I
have the Ubuntu Firefox Modifications enabled, they just disappear.

This is only happening since I upgraded to 8.10 with Firefox 3.0.3 and
UbuFox 0.6.

I'm also not seeing a Repair Extensions/Themes List option in the
firefox help menu, so that suggestion is not helpful.

Disabling Tab Mix Plus is not a solution.

Deleting my extensions.rdf file makes things return to normal, but only
as a once-off. When I restart Firefox again, the bookmarks/icons are
gone again.

[Bug 286791] [NEW] audtool not working from crontab or console

2008-10-20 Thread Myk Dowling
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: audacious

Ubuntu 8.04
Audacious 1.5.0-2ubuntu2~hardy1

I'm trying to use crontabs to change my current playlist in Audacious, so that
the music playing first thing in the morning is different to the music I drift
off to sleep listening to.

audtool completely fails to work when not run from an xconsole inside
the same X session as Audacious.

When run from a standard console, I get:
---

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$audtool --current-song
In program audtool:
  * While attempting to connect to the D-Bus session bus
Error: D-Bus Error: dbus-launch failed to autolaunch D-Bus session: Autolaunch
rror: X11 initialization failed.

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$

I assume this is the same thing that happens when audtool is run from a
crontab. The command gives no output to standard or error outputs, and I can
see nothing in the system logs.

Running this same command from an xconsole returns the currently playing
song's name, using the current song name format as shown in the playlist
and player.

I used to use XMMS, which handled this exact case perfectly. (Though by
running xmms, rather than a separately-identified tool)

[Bug 286795] [NEW] audacious stops playing randomly

2008-10-20 Thread Myk Dowling
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: audacious

Ubuntu 8.04
Audacious 1.5.0-2ubuntu2~hardy1

This is a tricky one to troubleshoot.
I am finding Audacious just stops playing at random times, usually at some
random point during an mp3. Not when changing tracks. I cannot find any
particular thing which causes it to happen. It isn't corruption in the files
being played, as the same file will happily play immediately afterwards when I
click on play. There are no error messages and nothing I can find in any
logfiles. It just stops playing, though the player window is still showing the
play mode graphic, and the track position slider and time display shows the
position at which the track stopped.

Now, I don't mind the interruption of a currently playing track. I can
deal with that. What I find annoying is that Audacious just stops. XMMS
used to jump onto the next track in the playlist when it found a
problem. This machine has its sound output plugged into an FM
transmitter, so I can tune in radios around the house to pick up the
music (much easier than stringing speaker cables up all around the
place). So when Audacious stops playing, my radios start outputting
static. Not much good as an alarm clock.

If anyone has any detailed requests for further information, I'll be
happy to respond.
