I have the same problem on my Ubuntu Server

Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS (GNU/Linux 3.13.0-63-generic x86_64)

Plug in a USB 3 powered drive and I get:

Tried the autosuspend workaround mentioned above with no change.  How do we 
undo that, by the way?
