In my case not even safe graphics works. The live USB sometimes just boots, and sometimes it doesn't. More often doesn't though. The same happens to installed system. [Bug 1915538] [NEW] grub did not get installed on fresh install
Public bug reported: Ubuntu installer reported fatal error while installing grub. I was installing ubuntu on sda7 on asus k556u laptop. There was win10 already there on sda2, booting from sda1. It used recovery partitions sda3 and sda4. Later one I erased and formed extended partition sda4. On that extended partition I have created boot partition sda5 of type fat32, swap partition at sda6 and sda7 of type ext4 on which I attempted instalation at first attempt. It failed with fatal error while installing grub near the end of installation. At second attempt to install ubuntu, I did not choose to create partitions. Instead I accepted replacing existing installation of ubuntu on sda7, but it failed with the same grub installer fatal error. [Bug 1815693] Re: Kubuntu 18.10 Xorg severe memory leak
** Description changed: Suddenly sometimes during the past two weeks my kubuntu installation has started to freeze up. I can't remember what apt upgrade that caused it, and I have done several the last few days hoping for it to be resolved. I didn't know what was causing it as I hadn't made any other changes expect for the odd apt upgrade. Before that I had just finished a several weeks long session of intense work around the clock without having to reboot even once. Suddenly it is now freezing up within hours. Even without doing anything, just leaving the computer alone. However, yesterday I accidentally discovered that my RAM was filled up. More than filled up, even all swap was full. And before I could close anything down it froze up again. So TLDR; I have today logged the memory consumption while I was handling some bills and linked is a log of constantly increasing Xorg memory usage. So it goes until it chokes the machine and only a hard reboot is possible. My installed RAM is 10GB. Swap is 6GB. Please refer to the linked file to see how the Xorg usage creeps up. https://www.dropbox.com/s/nf1ev2dxdlc6gqw/xorg_leak.log?dl=0 + + I should add that this bug seems specific to Kubuntu, and (I guess) + associated with running under Virtualbox. I have another Ubuntu 18.04 + (i.e. not _K_ubuntu) running on bare metal and it is not having any + problems. Please advise what additional information I should post to have this resolved. Please refer to the linked file to see how the Xorg usage creeps up. https://www.dropbox.com/s/nf1ev2dxdl..._leak.log?dl=0 Please advise what additional information I should post to have this resolved. [Bug 815240] Re: package grub-pc 1.99~rc1-13ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade: ErrorMessage: podproces installirana post-installation skripta je prijavio grešku sa statusom 2
Thank you for giving me a direction. I have added missing ending double qoute and restarted computer and it worked. Then I run command sudo update-grub which was written at the begining of the file: # If you change this file, run 'update-grub' afterwards to update # /boot/grub/grub.cfg. Then I restarted computer for the second time, but now it is frozen. On my screen there is a warning issued by monitor that video mode is not recomended, because it is not 1680x1050 (native mode of my lcd monitor). I am now trying to boot live from cd... I was following steps from the address https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RecoveringUbuntuAfterInstallingWindows and now everything seems to work. Grub menu looks a bit different than earlier. Steps to reproduce: 1. Open Brasero 2. Choose Data project 3. On the left pane is shown home directory with some files, the right pane is empty with a fade help text.
